I actually worked for a gaming chair company so these were our office chairs, (cuz of course they were) and that experience was rough. I didn't realize how harsh it was sitting in these chairs because I knew nothing about gaming chairs at the time. I convinced myself that the chair was great quality and that my back must have been the problem. Fast forward a year, I'm working somewhere else completely, using normal office chairs with 0 back problems.... Gaming chairs are pretty ass...
Super interesting. Can I ask what company? And yeah the back thing kills me as someone who spends their days editing I needed to throw like 250 bucks at a chair, ended up with a fantastic mesh back supporting chair that has saved my lumbar. Thanks for the info, Dylan.
My experience is the exact opposite. Comfortable executive chairs are very expensive (~$300+) - which is more than most "gaming" chairs. Also, regular office stools are not designed with any kind of ergonomics in mind, leaving you with a lot of pain all over the body. I know, I have one in my cube at work. Whereas my home chair (just happens to look "gamey") is very comfortable, properly reclines and I fell asleep in it in multiple occasions. Wouldn't be able to do that in the office chair.
Yeah I gotta say, for the price I think you can get a better gaming chair. For example I paid maybe 200$ and got a solid chair that can recline and has back support if I need it. I still have my old one in the basement for an office chair but the ability to recline is heavenly for my senile back lol.
got a 150$ gaming chair from costco and its been better than any high end office chair ive ever gotten, i wouldnt saying all gaming chair companies are like the one you worked at and make bad overpriced products, but thats essentially every industry at this point
I use a posture correcter and sit in a dinner chair, a little uncomortable to sit in, but my back and spine thanks me. Ever since I used it, all my back aches have been mitigated to non-existence. Even after like 6-12 hour sessions, I could walk perfectly.
you know what maybe i can make a meme like i wsnt to buy those gaming chair then seeing the price tag then i reconsider going into some car chair shop and order it from there for cheaper same comforts item
@@yazanali4603 Trainers yes, as most would be wrecked by wearing them every day for years. But a well made pair of leather shoes can look good and last for decades.
I was so used to seeing gaming chairs in everyone's streams and UA-cam videos that I just assumed it was the way to go. Then a year later I wondered why my back was hurting all the time
@@DustyOrchid057 try sitting in a herman miller or a steelcase chair 9r Amy semi-decent actual office chair. You'll never willingly sit in a gaming chair again. People figured out how to make a chair comfortable to sit in for 8-12 hours a day, literally decades ago.
When I got my gaming chair, I was like "Oh this is cool." Some time later I realized that the plastic chair at my school were better than the gaming chair that I had.
Yeah, gaming chairs are desirable to a lot of people because of aesthetics alone. You can find very good office chairs but they're usually very conservative looking, which is not to everyone's taste. If you want a gaming chair that looks good _and_ is a quality chair, you have to be willing to do your research and spend more $$$ as best as I can tell (I got a Secret Lab chair after a lot of research and I love it).
I call these chairs spinal suicide. It's impossible to sit up straight in them because its curved in. 100% scam. I switched to a shitty $40 chair and its infinitely better, at least now I can choose to sit up straight
Yeah now, keep in mind, you do want lumbar support to push your lower back into proper alignment, as the spine is naturally curved. But yeah those things blow chunks.
i recently got a napa leather secret lab titan evo 2022 xl and i have to say that honestly i am extremely happy with it. i have had it for 3 weeks and none of the problems described in the video seem to apply to it, in fact it seems beyond expectations in all those areas. however this might be because of the elephant in the room which is that the chair cost $1000 instead of $200, it is not easy on the wallet. it feels like an apple product, ridiculously overengineered when maybe there really is a $100 office chair somewhere that would do everything I need.
The selling point of gaming chairs is the aesthetic, which makes sense when you consider they're used by people that livestream for a living. Make one cool looking chair and the people that broadcast themselves sitting in chairs for a living will give you access to millions of eyeballs and tens of millions in free advertising.
Literally everyone I know who has a gaming chair is like "yeah it doesn't go up and down any more, the padding ripped after 6 minutes and one of the wheels came off so I replaced it with an egg." Like come on, man, you'd be better off on the floor.
idk man. my dxracer chair is getting 5years old right now and its still in superior form although i nearly sit 5-10h aday on it. Maybe all your mates bought the 50$ "gaiming chair" then its no suprise
A friend of mine working a janitor job got me the office chair I'm sitting in now. It was thrown away because it was missing some screws, which I was able to buy at the hardware store for like 2 dollars. It's served me well for about 2 years at this point and I've never had back issues from it.
Same, the office chair at my work (literally the only office chair at my work) was missing a wheel and I was mandated to throw it away, I asked my boss if I could take it home and now I have the best chair I've had in all my life. My parents-in-law bought my gf a gaming chair and to be honest I can never feel comfortable with it, it just makes an illusion to be somewhat comfortable, but after an hour I can't bare sitting on it
1:38 forgot to mention bucket seats are made in the shape of the driver. they're custom made, not some generic seat, and this is important because it lets the driver feel better what the car is doing. make a driver sit in someone else's seat and they might not even fit.
@@ManleyReviews if not completely personalized, when you are browsing for racing chairs you can go to the dealers and try out different sizes and pick the one best suited for you, so still even on low end racing they are quite personal.
That explains something I saw in those pitstop videos. There was this one clip where they also changed the entire seat of the car when they replaced the driver. Didn't know it was because of that. Thank you!
@@ManleyReviews it's the case for pretty much every kind of motorsport. open wheel, stock cars, rally, drift, drag, monster trucks, hill climb, sprint cars, basically anything above autocross.
My online gaming mate is on his second "gaming chair" in 2 years and I can hear him move every time. It creaks and squeals like you would not believe. Its louder than the game audio. I myself game in a leather fully reclining "Lazy Boy". Perfect for those 18 hour DayZ sessions.
That doesn't really have to do with gaming chairs. I agree they're ass, but my extremely comfortable and good quality ergonomic chair does the same thing, it's noisy as heck now, but on the other hand I've had it for years. I really should spray some WD40 on it.
I've got a mate with a really squeaky gaming chair, but the squeaks sound more like little farts, so it just sounds like he's constantly parping every 5 seconds. Most of the time, it's quite annoying because of just how constant it is, but occasionally it can be pretty bloody hilarious!
@@fuerstmetternich1997 What are ya; stupid? I want a big, comfortable corporate chair for my fat ass. If I'm going to be in front of a computer, I need to emphasize the need to minimize back problems, and these things just are the dumbest options out there.
Here's what I did, I got a job in facilities at a huge office building and I just rolled a badass $800 office chair to my car and put it in the backseat. I did this a few times now me and my friends/family have excellent lumbar support.
I bought myself a chair and desk worthy on an executive director, my mates were like wtf until they sat on the chair and felt it's comfy as hell, and that my desk is over 6' wide and almost 3' deep, so much room for stuff to be placed! My old gaming chair was uncomfy, overpriced, and looked daft.
When I first got my gaming pc, I thought that the common thing to do was to get a gaming chair, because I thought it was the logical thing to do. After using for a year, a majority of my time with my $99 gaming chair was not comfy, so a year later now, I got a office chair for the same price from Costco and the comfort difference is actually insane
I started working at Staples a few years ago before gaming chairs were so mass market, you’d see like the dxracer ones but that was about it. I had assumed the whole point was comfort, but once I tried them compared to the real office chairs I quickly realized it was all marketing. I am constantly encouraging people to sit in the other chairs and feel the difference. Staples just made a bigger push into “gaming” and along with more gaming chairs (they are BY FAR our top sellers), it just means slapping the word gaming on a cheap product so you can charge twice as much for it.
The amount of fucking gaming chairs i sold to stupid ass kids who walked in wanting a gaming chair was disgusting. I do not miss working at staples at all
My Staples didn't even have gaming chairs. my $100 meshback has held up handsomely so far though, other than not being able to lock it in the forward two back positions for some reason.
I do a lot of car stuff and I know where gaming chairs came from- cheap Chinese driving seats that flooded the market a couple decades ago, right around the time when cars started including features in their seats that were too expensive for China to copy (heat, a/c, scales for airbags and seat belts). They made more than they could sell to car enthusiasts because no one wanted to remove these features from their cars. These cheap manufacturers started bolting castor tripods on to their unsellable car seats after they saw Recaro do it for massive profits to a high end executive market.

Bought a gaming char a couple years ago and just witnessed it wear out incredibly fast... then immediately bought an office chair and realized i wasted money
My ideal “gaming chair” is just a chair with wheels, can spin, is adjustable in a reasonable way ( none of those garbage threaded-like-a-screw-height-adjustment ones ), and doesn’t make me feel like I’m sitting on a metal-covered log after 30 minutes. Air conditioned seating be damned, I have a fan for a reason.
I can't even say how long I spent trying out chairs for my setup but yeah, mesh office chairs are king. I work sitting on it, I game sitting on it, I have passed out from complete exhaustion; drunk and sober.
Mesh office chairs are just the absolute best for 99% of all people and computer use. Avoiding a back drenched in sweat when it's even a little warm is just so damned nice
Seriously, thank you for making this. I had a 230 dollar “gaming” chair, and it felt like i was sitting on a pile of rocks just after 30 minutes. I replaced it with a 60 dollar office chair and the difference is insane. Way more comfortable and affordable, and it actually fits in my room. Those gaming chairs are fucking huge for no reason. All I lost with the switch was the ability to adjust the arms. Never buy gaming chairs.
I subscribed last night and I'm sure it said there were 20.5k subscribers. I watch another video this morning and now there's 20.8k! Those numbers are going up and the algorithm is working!
I'm sitting on a pillow meant for sleeping that I've added to my gaming chair because it's uncomfortable without that little "mod". Now I don't want this chair anymore...
*The problem we have today are NOT the gaming chairs themselves. My gaming chair doesn't have the stupid excuse of literal rubber pegs for 'arm rests' and are actually the best ones I've ever had. I always put my legs up with my leg rest while gaming in which office chairs don't readily have yet, and if they do, usually made of mesh. The problem we have is the fact that the flagship game chairs that cost $400-$500 with NO comfort, NO style, NO lumbar support and NOT even real arm rests show up with your first search on ANY search engine. We have streamers and youtubers that get paid crazy amounts of money to make sure they sponsor them to not stop that any time soon. They make awesome gaming chairs around $100-$200 but so lost in searching for them that most people don't even know they exist. They also make Gaming Recliners that are electric and with cup and controller holders, also with some of the best arm rests and back/lumbar support. It's not all gaming chairs in general. It's the ones that are crap that they try to just make money off of with no effort at the top of your search results...* Awesomely well done video btw!
I ain't reading all that. I'm happy for u tho. Or sorry that happened. jk naw I appreciate it. I get what you're saying there are of course some good ones around, there's also a ton of garbage ones though like you said.
Please tell me what chairs are good and where to find them. My arozzi gaming chair just broke. I disassembled it and the frame is basic thin pipe with tiny welds only large enough to create weak spots. The upper frame broke in 3 places, 0 abuse ever since new, 3.5 yrs old, and I'm not overweight or something. It's made from crap and not easily repairable. What can I buy that's good and comfortable for a change?
@@bearcanuck2916 I spent $500 on a Secret Lab chair. I love it. I've had it for two years and I use it for about 8 hours a day (I work from home) and there are *no* signs of wear at all--I've spilled food or drink on it at least a few times and just made sure to wipe it off quickly. I also am never sore or stiff from sitting in it. It doesn't creak, and it's literally comfortable enough to sleep in, especially if you recline it and have something to use as a footrest. Just make sure to get the right size for your height (the website helps you with this). I've used a lot of office chairs of varying quality before and this definitely beats all of them. I haven't owned another gaming chair to compare to, but I did try an Arrozi in a local store and found it uncomfortable after just a few minutes of sitting.
I used to work for an office furniture specialty company (main brand was Steelcase). Even those chairs are rarely what a gamer really needs. What you want is a chair that reclines enough to almost put you in the same position you'd get in your grandfather's recliner (feet up and supported and all). That's the position that's best for your back if you'll be sitting for a long time. My personal setup is a chair I got off Amazon with a nice high back to give neck support if I want it, and reclines far enough to make it comfortable to prop my legs up on the stool I put under the kitchen table I use as a desk. Why a table instead of a desk? Because it allows me to push my monitor far enough away that I don't get eye strain, and gives way more surface area than a conventional desk. Think outside the box and get the furniture that works best catering to your own needs.
Funny you say that, the chair I'm sporting now reclines mega far and I use another stool for leaning back in. I agree fully with that couch/lazy boy recliner vibe for those single player games. I think a lot of people see the gaming chair in a more "competitive" light instead of gaming chairs focusing on the "chill" aspect. Wish that was more of the market. Thanks for checking it out.
For me this doesn't hold true, reclining for long periods of time makes my body hurt, and sitting upright/actively engaging my lumbar is much more comfortable. But I used to have scoliosis and have muscular issues, so I'm probably the exception. Every gaming chair I've sat in truly does suck tho, although my friend's secretlab chair was the best of the gaming chairs I've tried. It had actual quality foam and some kind of internal adjustable lumbar. It's priced the same as an expensive office chair I have tho.
Dammnnn, these videos are so good! So many jokes per minute, and your determination is clear. This is the quality of someone with like 100x the following. Glad to be on this train early, I'm so inspired. Make it happen dude yessss!!!
Owned a gaming chair about 3 months into the pandemic and this whole work-from-home situation. Absolutely fucking hated it, gave it to a little cousin who thought I gave him God in chair-form (he's 14 and plays Fortnite), bought an actual Ergonomic office chair, and have been happy since then. God I hate Gaming chairs.
My parents fell hook line and sinker into the gaming chair scam recently. I was looking for chairs to buy, they saw I was doing it, then said “hey, ______ is a e🅱️ic gamer, why not get him a swag gamer chair for his birthday” so I ended up replacing my old squeaky uncomfortable chair with a uncomfortable chair that doesn’t squeak and also has less wiggle room.
the same thing almost happened to me except she sent me the link and asked if that was okay for my bday. first, i felt embarrassed that it was an rgb chair, so i looked up gaming chairs and the first video was by Gamers Nexus which slammed gaming chairs. I just assumed they were more comfortable because everyone had them. Thankfully, I now got a really comfy office chair with a mesh back, so I don't even have the problem Manley faced there with the back sweat. It's awesome.
Tried out a bunch recently, I actually found staples own brand Emerge to be the comfiest. Kinda a halfway point between gaming and office, and cost like a third of the price of some others I was initially after
At least, they know what to aim for. Last time I tried gaming chairs at a Staples, they pretty all sucked and were stiff as hell... Except maybe the one from the Staples brand. But I already have a computer chair that's getting pretty old but still works great.
I feel attacked lol. I bought a cheap $99 office chair from Amazon. At first it was fine, but over time it was messing up my back due to lack of lumbar suppport. So I ended up getting a gaming chair with the pillow for lumbar support. So far my back has been fine. It's not the most comfortable chair but it gets the job done. Next upgrade I'll definitely look into the those AC seats.
Hey at least it was relatively cheap. I know people who've thrown out 400+ dollar chairs no lie. I need that water cooled chair that also is a toilet and life support system.
Former staples employee here. DO NOT BUY THE STAPLES BRAND CHAIRS! Seriously if u want a good chair get one of the lazyboy chairs or whatever. They actually hold their padding for more than a month and are extremely comfortable to sit in especially for a significant amount of time. Ive gotten both my friend and my step mom one and both love them
I do wonder if these were designed to make gaming painful so people would game less, like some kind of conspiracy by the government to make people go outside.
Monster Tech recently came out with a ridiculously customizable flight sim chair meant to have a bunch of button boxes and joysticks bolted to it, and it completely ditches the bucket seat BS. Probably the only example of a "gaming chair" that I'd consider buying.
I've only sat in a gaming chair when I would go to fighting game tournaments, and I own one now, and it's been pretty comfortable for me personally, maybe I just happened upon a good brand or something idk, but it's broken down so easily, that I'm gonna sacrifice any comfort for a normal chair that is hopefully sturdy when it's time for a new one
honestly a simple net backed office chair is wonderful. The net backing is comfortable enough for me and since you get complete airflow and minimal but uniform support its cool too.
Yeah, this craze of low-quality-presented-as-high-quality "gaming" chairs is horrible. Used a Respawn 110 for almost a year, and it SUCKED. My ass was in constant pain after just an hour of sitting. And the lumbar pillow was a joke. Always got jammed in the crevice between the back and seat of the chair. Didn't have a spring-loaded rocking system, armrests were connected to the back so they only moved when you reclined the chair's back part. It was a stiff, mostly plastic mess. AND it was already creaky out of the box. By the time I got rid of it, it was LOUD when it creaked. HOWEVER, I wouldn't say all gaming-style chairs are bad. I recently replaced it with an Anda Seat Kaiser 2, and my god, this seat is everything I wanted in a gaming chair. Memory foam pillows, a LARGE lumbar pillow that covers more area of the back of the chair, spring-loaded rocking, very thick and soft cushioning, adjustable armrests and an easily accessible lever system, and it DOESN'T CREAK AT ALL. Out of any racer-style chair, this is the only one I've ever been comfy for literally hours in. It was pricey, but worth it for me. But yeah 9 times out of 10 these "gaming chairs" are scams, made with the cheapest and least durable materials you can find. There are a few good ones, but if you're on a serious budget, get a regular office chair. They are usually infinitely better.
Exactly, I feel like some points he gives only applies to "gaming" chairs under 150-200(still overpriced) but those normally have no support, padding, or adjustability. My gaming chair for 250$ has built in Bluetooth speakers, a decent massager, tilt and height adjustment, rgb, and good lumbar support. The ones I sat on in staples were horrible prices of garbage.
I completely agree, I got an anda seat chair to replace a 6 year old IKEA one that was falling apart, it’s made of really nice leather with amazing support for my lower back, since getting the chair all of my back pain is gone which I put down completely to the new seat.
Another amazing feature to include in an actual "Gaming" Chair. . .Speakers. Some people might already have better sound systems in their home, but sitting on one while the bass is blasting and vibrating you is awesome.
That might actually give you quite some advantage if you do the directional sound correctly. Tactile stimulus is the fastest we can respond to (roughly a quarter faster than visual, for example, though the number is "on average"), and gamers are people that will fight for 5ms of reactive advantage. I don't know why this hasn't been done.
You are just saying Xrocker which is..... awful and trust me it is. You are better with a $500 soundbar setup by the time you spend all that money not to mention it has Dolby Atmos as opposed to the sound Xrockers make. Trust me do this and don't look back.
When I was a kid my mom got me and my brother these weird sort of rocking chairs you sat low close to the ground and they had speakers you could connect with an AUX cable. They were an absolute joy.
Ergonomics and anthropometrics have been studied for a long time. We have also been sitting at office jobs for a long time. There are quite a few office chairs (ex. Herman Miller Aeron chair, Steelcase, HAG) that have been out for decades that were produced by engineers and industrial designers with tons of experience in the field. These chairs are also not ideal for gaming, but I can guarantee they are better than these gaming chairs in question. A colorful and aggressive looking, bucketed racecar seat doesn't equate to office or gaming comfort, it equates to, well, racing in a car. Also, do not expect them to be cheap. R&D, design, high end materials and manufacturing techniques cost a lot of money regardless of where its made. The issue here and in most cases is consumer ignorance, giving marketing vampires an easy time shelling flashy colors and B.S buzzwords. Do your own research people!
I'm actually pretty happy with the SecretLabs chair (the Titan, not the smaller one). I got a fabric one, and it's a good middle-ground between gamer and office chair in that it has (adjustable!) lumbar support, the bucket shape is very slight (meaning you can stretch your shoulders and actually position your legs in different ways), it's very adjustable, and while the seat is firm, it's still comfortable. Still not as good as the office chair I have, but that chair was the same price used as the Titan was new. Those bucket-style racing chairs are absolute GARBAGE, though, including the small SecretLabs (the Omega, I think)? I sat in a generic one at an office store, and I couldn't believe how uncomfortable it was. No idea how people sit in those for long periods of the day; I don't think I could do it even if I was sponsored.
I went through 2 _"Gaming Chairs"_ before finally doing exactly what you said. I went to Staples and got a chair that was infinitely more comfortable, actually rocked back and forth correctly, and has arms sturdy enough for me to do dips on them. I don't have to constantly stretch my back and it doesn't take 10 steps of slow walking to get slight hip pain to go away after sitting in it for a few hours. My ass also doesn't go numb besides my tailbone which would scream at me after 25 minutes because the padding on $250 game chairs is no better than the padding on $99 gaming chairs, or $35 waiting room chairs. I was literally stunned at the lack of quality. Lol, "Leg rests"? Yeah, those worked great, extending and then flipping into position that make you feel like you are going to tip over the minute you try to use it. Or the adjustable seat which was a lever you had to lift up, then manually set the back to where you want it to be, lock it back in by pushing the lever down, at which point you can sit again. The plastic armrests that felt like they were going to snap off every time I put any weight on them; ei using my arms to help push myself out of the chair because my legs and back were dead from sitting in the fricken thing so long... Ugh. I could see an actual car seat on a sturdy rockable base being comfortable to game in, but with no _"Power"_ options involved, we are still taking about a chair that probably has a $250 manufacturing cost and weighs 35lbs. That would be a cool gaming chair, but even at the $400+ price point you are not going to get that in a "Gaming Chair" unless you build it yourself because they are basically selling you $50 chairs at various markups with the only difference being RGB and very, very slightly more padding. Fine for 10-15 year-olds, but *PITIFUL* for adults. Heh, I just leaned back in the office chair I ended up buying and guess what I felt? Real lumbar support without some goofy pillow basically just pushing my lower back out way to far concentrated on my spinal cord along with 3"'s on both sides. Yeah, thats fantastic for your back. They should put the extra padding from the pillows in the darn chairs, while widening them so you get the "Bucket" look without actually being trapped.
I've struggled with chair comfort for a very long time. I've never found a chair that I can just use for hours and hours and hours. This was major motivation for my trying a gaming chair -- it's a major change in chair style and I expected it to be a major increase in chair quality too. I've owned two gaming chairs. The first was a gift from family -- I'd mentioned wanting a chair, and I almost certainly used the phrase "gaming chair" since, after all, that'd be most of what I used a chair for. I told them I wanted time to look into options, but they got impatient and just bought *a* "gaming chair", somewhere in the 100 to 200 USD range. My experience with it very strongly aligned with what you've described in this video. It's build quality was honestly lesser than most of the traditional chairs I've used. The second is a SecretLab chair, which I am still using. The actual build quality is much better, and it has a meaningful warranty (5 years), but I very much feel the design issues that come with the "gaming chair" style. The bucket seat is adequately comfortable when I am sitting in the racecar-driver position, but as soon as I try to sit in it in any other way, it becomes horrible. I'm just not someone who can stay in one position for very long. It's supposed to have the lumbar support that you mention gaming chairs often lacking, but as with every lumbar support system I have used, I have not managed to find a configuration more comfortable than "no support". I will probably ride out its usable life, but I don't expect to be interested in "gaming" chairs when it's time to buy the next chair. A very strange issue with both chairs: I simply could not find a combination of position and configuration for which using a keyboard was remotely comfortable. It's giving me an existential crisis about how normal chair work -- I don't believe I've ever had this experience with a normal chair.
This is just great. This should be the first one to be recommended when you search "Gaming Chair Sucks". I never watched others after seeing this. Spot on.
I have a gaming chair with extending footrest and it gets used only when I want to deeply recline or use my steering wheel for the immersion. Controller games are great for it. When it's time to use the mouse and keyboard, the office chair with sawed-off-snub-nose armrests comes out. I also took an angle grinder to the bit that holds the armrests to the bottom of the seat and lets you adjust their wideness so that I can slide them out and off the chair without fully removing the adjustment knob when it's guitar time. I'm really just leaving this comment so that the algorithm boosts your channel
I love this, everyone bought in like it was the tomigachi they needed to becomes popular. I bought a Staples mesh chair, and it works like crazy, no longer do i feel a build up of head and sweat from hours of getting paid to do graphic design.
Man I love my Secretlab racer chair. I get that some people have issues, but this shit has helped my back and posture a lot actually. It's different for each person.
For sure different levels of quality and design among companies, lots of gaming chairs are ass though, I'm extremely comfortable in my titan 2020 soft-weave, but I really like a firm chair. I know people that are uncomfortable in Herman Miller chairs, it's all about what fits you. Everyone has different needs based on their body type and personal preference. I really, really wish there was chair store where we could try these damn things out before making a purchase decision. Again I get that some companies offer a risk free trial, but that just doesn't seem ideal as I might not like any of that brands chairs. It's kind of a crappy researching and buying experience all around to be completely honest.
@@Windiguana Yea same here. I love my secret lab soft weave. Perfect balance between firm and softness. I’ll pass on most office chairs, way too soft for me
Sure, but the secretlabs is $500 and a Serta Big and Tall (yes the mattress company) Executive Chair will be the same quality and durability and comfort for ~$250. It just won't look as cool. Source: I've bought in to both. Nothing justifies the Secretlabs price. You can buy a decent recliner for that price.
@@wanderer202 I'll definitely look into it. I got my secret lab for 200 on some sale or another. But in the future I'll definitely consider that other brand.
this basically extends to anything marketed to "gamers" or amateurs or whatever demographic instead of its features or quality. If you want a good product, look for the stuff professionals use, every day, for hours. this means exec chairs. this means professional audio equipment, this means cinematic or professional photographer cameras.
In all fairness Secretlab's Titan series (especially the evo) seem to be solving these problems. Well built, adjustable lumbar support and a good neck pillow go a long way to make up for the shortcomings and for the £450 they go for they're not as bad as the "ermergerd gaming" chairs tend to be. Could just get a preowned Herman Miller tho so idk
Love my Titan, but it's much more office designed than it is "gaming". I always compare it to sitting in a comfy sedan seat. Sadly missing the holes in the back for my racing harness (lol) but I've made it work haha
I've had 2 gaming chairs so far. Figured the first one was crap and when it broke I got a different one. The second is the one I currently use and I like it but yeah it's definitely not the most comfortable. I just like the anesthetics. When this one breaks I'm just gonna get an office chair
As someone who used a Corbeau FX1 as a desk chair for 4 years because I thought it was a cool novelty, I can confidently say that even that was a better experience than any race inspired gaming chair I've tried, and it was miserable the entire 4 years. I bought an '08 HM Aeron recently and I'm not looking back. Also Pork Pie makes some of the comfiest drum thrones if you get the chance to try one out!
I think you make a valid arguement, a lot of companies produce cheap rubbish and call it "gaming" to rip-off people who don't know better. I may have just spent nearly $500 on a gaming chair, but I am very pleased with it; It has all the good features, soft foam, padding, and adjustable everything in terms of support. I am 2m tall / 6ft6' and the seat is really comfortable and is essentially a colourful ergonomic office chair. Due to my height, im too big for most office supply stores as they are designed to be sold to fit the average person (max 185- 190cm tall, max 100kg/220lbs) which makes the search for tall or heavy people very difficult. The only office brands I could find that would accommodate my size, and offer the full adjustability (pitch control of base and back, piston extension over 40cm, adjustable arm and head rests) were with tailor made options, which started at over $1000. In my opinion gaming chairs do cover a market gap: offering (depending on brand) seats in XS and XL sizes which arent offered by office brands. After 2years of home office, my back gas thanked me for the upgrade.
Great video, man! Like I said before, you make genuine-sounding content! I love it! I own two 2020 SL Omega chairs. I have no complaints about them. Now, I don't spend more than two hours sitting down because I do use my standing desk. I have been eyeing the Herman Miller Embody “Gaming” Chair because HM office chairs are great for sitting long periods doing work. Anyway, great video!
Your production quality is too high for your subscriber and view count lol. Keep it up and I hope it pays off for you, I honestly though I was watching a huge channel.
I almost bought a gaming chair last year but my eyes bulged when I saw the price which was around Php 4600 or $ 90 ( this price is considered ridiculous for a Filipino). So I did some research about chairs and went down the rabbit hole for a while and I had a realization that it's best to buy an office chair and considering that my room has a mantled, old wooden floor, it's best if I just bought a chair without wheels because it can easily rip off the cheap, plastic mantle. Now, I have a Php 2300 or $ 45 office chair that has both lumbar and neck support that are so comfortable, I sometimes doze off in it despite sitting in it for more than 8 hours (with some bathroom breaks).
actually for me during covid the best chair i could find for $99 was a gaming chair and it is actually the most comfortable for the price that i could find
The idea of gaming chairs like we know them today first started back with the first Gran Turismo PS1 era game. At that time, GT was so simulation accurate and fun - that non-gamers (that are auto racing fans) bought PS1’s and the steering wheel of the time. I believe the wheel that was all the rage had F1 style shifting paddles. Pretty cool for the time tbh. Anyway, the immediate complaint for GT gamers - with the wheel - was how the heck to deal with the wheel so you can play for hours? From using school desk/chair units, to bean bags were all tried. But what worked well… was spending a $100-150 bucks on an auto racing seat - then bolting it to a rocker bottom. That soon turned into a product - which was the early versions of what’s now known as a console gaming chair that sits on the floor with a rounded bottom to rock the seat. But the original solve was always an auto racing bucket seat - because of GT. Totally agreed on modern gaming chairs being over designed hustle products. But just thought I’d mention why the aesthetic of auto bucket seats may have become the de facto for gaming chairs - just by the way things happened back in the day when the first home racing game that could really benefit from a specific racing controller was released.
I kinda had the opposite experience. I bought a normal reasonably-priced office chair and it was a piece of crap, I hated it. Decided to buy an expensive gaming chair and I'm liking it a lot better so far.
personally my chair helped fix my back issues before I got my secret labs chair I was chilling with a shitty $100 office chair and I had horrible lower back pain but the lumbar support on my chair fixed all that for me so I don't know it seems like a good chair and it's not too expensive
well, a secret lab is like what 350-400? When you have options like Ikea Markus for literally half of that, which are far superior it makes you think twice imo. The problem was in your posture, you just bought a new chair and it fixed. It would've been fixed if you bought a new 100 bucks office chair, it wouldn't last long ofc
I tried a lot of "Gaming Chairs", and I didn't like them - until I tried the Secret Labs one. Don't know if it's better than a proper office chair, but definitely better than most other gaming chairs I've tried. And it doesn't have as much of an annoying race car seat shape.
Thank you. I have a Secret Labs Titan and don't really understand the point of this video. You can't blame all gaming chairs when you don't do your research to find good ones. And when he talks about comfort and Lumbar support, my mother has a degree in ergonomics and says my chair is better then most office chairs she sits in when evaluating workplaces.
Same here. My first gaming chair was a shoddy $150 one from Amazon with a no name brand. I got a SecretLab Titan this year and it's a game changer. Always comfortable for me
I was coming here to comment the same thing. I have tried several gaming chairs, all bad. Also tried a few expensive office chairs, not as bad but overpriced. Then I tried secret labs, I now have 3 of them in my house. They are expensive but 100% worth it, very comfortable for long periods of time.
"Gaming chairs" are crap. Anyone saying they're great are just trying to justify them wasting their cash on a crappy chair. *Sidiz T50* > gaming chairs 💁♂️
This guy is right. I suffer from some back injuries. I tried a gaming chair on the store, and it was ok, so I bought it. Could not stand it for more than 45 mins. I bought an extra ergonomic seat cushion, and an ergonomic back support (about $80 for both), so now it's great!! But with those, any chair would be great. The problem with the really good chairs, is that they are really expensive. At work, I had a chair that I could sit on for 4-5 hours straight without any issues. Super comfortable. $900... Ok, not comfortable for my wallet. But yeah, gaming chairs, not so good unless you invest more on them (and in that case, any chair would work).
I had hand-me-down office chairs from my dads office, and I got pains in my lower back. I bought a secretlab chair for when I moved out, and I haven't had any discomfort even through several lockdowns and I've even slept in it a few times when I couldn't be bothered to crawl into bed. Anecdotal evidence, I know, but my chair's been good.
It depends on the chair, if you game or do office work they can be very useful depending on the brand. It doesn’t effect your gaming as much as making it more comfortable. I personally have a secret lab titan and it helps a lot.
The higher tier chairs often feature much better construction and actually feel less like gaming chairs. However, at the price point there's some real professional office chairs that are stupid comfortable that offer much more customization.
I've had both a Razer Iskur and Secret labs chairs, both felt horrible after a month of use. I eventually figured that I'd get the same chair I sit on at work, a 199 bucks Hyken office chair from Staples. Best choice I've ever made.
I always dog on my friends about their 'gaming' products, especially the gaming chairs. They're so ugly but I never knew about how uncomfortable and bad they were for your back, jeez. How anybody thinks these are cool or in any way necessary is beyond me.
So I got my gaming chair as a desk chair, taken in by the aesthetic and unaware of the problems. I now have to stuff a pillow behind my back and that kinda ruins the aesthetic anyway. When this chair dies, I'm definitely getting an office chair instead.
What should I get instead, I would prefer an office chair but there not as idk the word, so is there an in between or some decent office chair someone can link me?
Totally recommend the Lazy Boy mesh backed ones or the tempur pedic chairs. Very supportive but still comfy for long term. Literally walk into staples and just sit in everything. Trust me it's worth doing.
Honestly, 2 of the 3 items on his wishlist are covered by getting a used aeron chair on eBay. Big companies buy them in bulk, and they usually get sold off by office liquidators. They're heavily adjustable and have mesh backs and seats which provide airflow. They're very well made and just last forever
I think secret lab chairs are the only gaming chairs that are actually worth it, they're crazy expensive but have good warranties and a ton of comfort options
About 5 years ago I found one gaming chair that's actually comfy but a year ago when I was looking for a new chair, all gaming chair designs I saw were atrocious in terms of comfort/ health for the back. I got office chair with thick padding and lumbar support and it's the comfiest chair I've EVER had.
I love that you're using a strobe light to imitate cameras taking pictures. I have a strobe light that still works from Spencers from literally 2002, I might have to find a use for it now..
This is typically true for chairs $200 and under though. Chairs like the ones from secretlab do have a ton of features and feel very comfortable. The thing is, most of the low cost chairs genuinely all come from the same warehouses and they constantly change the branding and name to be the same chairs resold as something new. A chair thats marketed as SUPER DPS 3D INSIGHT RACING GAMER is the thing to avoid. But there is technically no such thing as a "gaming chair" anyway. There's good chairs and bad chairs, including the office chairs. | To act as if a $100 office chair wont be as shitty as a $100 gamer chair is disingenuous. $100 is not a lot of money for something you're meant to sit in every day for years. People should be viewing chairs more like beds. Are $800 office chairs automatically not scams because they have "office" in the name? And wtf you show the titty streamers obviously getting up to """stretch""" to go with your point, but you SHOULD be getting up every now and again from your chair to stretch out. That's the case with everything. You shouldn't be stayed sitting for too long, ever. I think you found some shitty chairs and just really wanted to throw a blanket statement of things you barely understand one everything.
actually ive owned a secretlab omega for about a year now and its the worst chair ive ever had, ive never had such a sore back, it is shaped so poorly and has 0 back support, cost me like $500 btw
I have a Secretlab Titan and I am so happy with it, owned it for about 2 years now and ist just reply comfortable, especially between Games when you want to watch something you can almost lay down completely. I sit on it almost everyday for 2-6 hours and never get sore or pain anywhere.
@@ohokok That's true, the omega model doesn't have the lumbar system like the titan has and is made for smaller sized people of around under 5'6. Even then, not all chair is even for everyone. Because the way ergonomics work is that everyone's back is different. If your back wasn't feeling good from it for several weeks, why would you even keep it for the next year over when the offer like a month for return if you're not happy with it? I had got my Titan 2022 model recently and i had to fiddle with the lumbar system knobs plenty in order to get things just right and comfortable. That's one of the biggest downsides is that for this model you have to mild effort into fitting it right for your back. But even then now after days of messing with it its been wonderful. The point is that there's plenty of shitty chairs all around, and what customers SHOULD be doing is finding good chairs that are right for them through their own research. Rather than saying "All office chairs good and all 'gaming chairs' bad". It's ridiculous and misrepresentative of the actual situation.
@@awesomeanimals69 Got mine semi recently and after sitting in it more and adjusting it correctly i can say the same thing that ive had no actual soreness or pains. It's actually even made my posture better lol. Still, most chairs that are even good for people can cause some soreness depending on the person's health and back and getting up to stretch, or moving around in your seat to a different position is healthy behavior. I don't like how this guy treated that aspect at all. It's clear he's more focused on comedy while trying to feel correct.
Agreed, I bought one on sale when all the fake leather fell of my old office chair, It was so uncomfortable I dug my leatherless beat up chair back out of the trash.
I bought a executive office chair. You know that soft leather couch like office chair, stainless steel parts and real leather. Best purchase for my PC set up.
Yeah I never understood the connection between sitting in a racecar and sitting in your office/gaming setup. Glad to see people are catching up.
That's exactly what I'm saying.
Better off getting a bride or sparco racing seat n putting wheels on it ur self lol
you know what
maybe i can make a meme like i wsnt to buy those gaming chair then seeing the price tag then i reconsider going into some car chair shop and order it from there for cheaper same comforts item

That explains the shitty cushions just wobbling on the chairs.

Air conditioned seating be damned, I have a fan for a reason.

@@ManleyReviews Thanks. I guess we're both more "function over form" fellows.
when it comes to appliances, yes haha.

Agreed - and subscribed. Keep at it, Manley.
At least they tried lol

the same thing almost happened to me except she sent me the link and asked if that was okay for my bday. first, i felt embarrassed that it was an rgb chair, so i looked up gaming chairs and the first video was by Gamers Nexus which slammed gaming chairs.

It's like buying a racecar seat instead of a touring seat for comfort
Former staples employee here. DO NOT BUY THE STAPLES BRAND CHAIRS! Seriously if u want a good chair get one of the lazyboy chairs or whatever. They actually hold their padding for more than a month and are extremely comfortable to sit in especially for a significant amount of time. Ive gotten both my friend and my step mom one and both love them
yeah I actually got a lazy boy after this lol.
I got a comfy office chair for 75$, and it's perfectly fine.
"Duh gamey char!" craze never interested me.
honestly a simple net backed office chair is wonderful.
Good headphones are always better.
@@miskerss Those are Xrockers look them up
Ergonomics and anthropometrics have been studied for a long time.
Bingo bro.
Thought I was watching someone with 100k+ subscribers AT LEAST, until I went out of full screen. Good work man.
Heck yeah! Thanks for watching, got a bunch of other fun vids for ya!
My goblin posture is so bad I don’t even touch the back of my chair
The production quality on these are INSANE. You have good flow, great jokes, and are well educated and informed. Keep up the good stuff :]
Much appreciated!
The one that I have doesn’t hurt my back at all. I mean, it starts to hurt if you sit in it all day but aside from that I LOVE it
@1:25 reminds me of sub par Sub Zero and Scorpion costumes on Halloween. Lol
It's giving me an existential crisis about how normal chair work -- I don't believe I've ever had this experience with a normal chair.
ill use this video as a reference for which chair ill be getting

This is just great. This should be the first one to be recommended when you search "Gaming Chair Sucks". I never watched others after seeing this. Spot on.
Hahaha yeah that's actually the first tag I think I put for the video. New video dropping tomorrow morning too! Thanks for stopping by man.
The optimal gaming chair is a couch. Change My Mind
My dad wanted to get me one this christmas, i intervined and just asked for a really comfortable office chair. Best decision I've ever made.
Yeah if you really go in on a nice one it's amazing.
I’ve been sitting on the floor for the past 40 years while gaming and I really have no intention of stopping lol
That's because you're not a PC gamer.
this basically extends to anything marketed to "gamers" or amateurs or whatever demographic instead of its features or quality.
I also own a Titan. It's amazing. So much customizability. I've had it for a few years now, and it's held up fine mechanically.
When this one breaks I'm just gonna get an office chair
anesthetics?
I always prefer a bean bag, or one of those circular chairs you sit in. They've never steered me wrong, and only costed me $20!

Imagine being so beta you get a gaming chair
As a gaming chair owner...
You got a point 😂
haha ngl you got me in the first half..
Thanks so much man! Uploading another vid tomorrow!

My friend got one and I bashed on it when I sat on it, and they said I just wasn't a gamer🤷🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Mind telling me why?
@@Byzantophile Because it's not a piece of crap? I'm not sure what specifics you're looking for.

well, a secret lab is like what 350-400? When you have options like Ikea Markus for literally half of that, which are far superior it makes you think twice imo.
The problem was in your posture, you just bought a new chair and it fixed. It would've been fixed if you bought a new 100 bucks office chair, it wouldn't last long ofc

Same here. My Titan is a godsend.

It's clear he's more focused on comedy while trying to feel correct.
my favourite thing about this is that I got an ad for a gaming chair right before this video
