When you import RAW files into Lightroom, Lightroom automatically does some preprocessing to your image. In this video, I demo how to edit that preprocessing so you have Lightroom handle the RAW file the way you want it handled. I find it awesome that they give you a easier way to change the default processing now in Lightroom. There is still some significant issues that can have a huge effect on how you process a image and these issues are not easy to remove. Behind the scenes Adobe Provides a significant contrast curve that can lead users to think they have blown highlights that can no longer be recovered when in reality the actual raw of the image is not blown out. This is something you can't see in the sliders and to remove it you need to go through a rather convoluted process dance with Processing Versions and removing this baked in curve and contrast settings. The reason why it is everyone's first step is to pull back highlights and lift shadows is because of this overly aggressive tone curve. If you go through the process to remove this curve you never need to touch highlights and shadows sliders most of the time instead you just add a touch of contrast. Now this is not needed for every image sometimes their default is fine but right now I think the most significant change that could be made to Lightroom is for Adobe to provide a true Neutral Linear Raw profile so that people can get great results even faster.
Thank you for this video. Whether I choose camera st or adobe color whenever i press back slash button to see 'before' it is usually a random colored one that is different from the first imported image. I want to see the first imported image to compare the color difference between my current edited photo and the first stage but it seems impossible to compare these two as a ' before' image is neither of two I want to compare...
Very useful video. When I click on the Preset + sign I get an option called “import preset”. How does this differ from creating a preset to use in Preferences??
Lightroom does all sorts of stuff to files . It actually applies a tone curve changing exposure and contrast but does not show this curve in the curves tab. If you go back to an older process version then and only then will it reveal this curve. Then if you zero everything you will finally see your actual exposure! Its madness but that's what happens. See Andy Astburys channel regarding his "process version swap".
Always enjoy your videos...well produced and informative. When the photo is imported is that a way to apply the auto setting to all photos (Develop>Basic>Tone>Auto) to create a better starting point? If I were not happy with that setting would I be able to go back to reset? Thanks again for the great videos.
Very important video. Just to clarify these only get applied on new imports correct? I already have a bunch of photos in my library and they've all been set to adobe color but I really want them to have my natural camera settings. After setting my present, do I have to go through each and every photo and click reset or reimport all my photos to have this new preset applied?
Hi Anthony. I am a Sony user with a 7III and a 9.I don't know where you have "camera standard" color setting" in the menu? There is "Color Space" with 2 choices - sRGB and AdobeRGB.Where is the "camera standard" setting? Thanks. You have the best site for learning LR and PS
Thank you so much. I noticed that all my RAW images are super noisy. Then my JPG files aren't. Come to find out lightroom applies their own settings! How annoying....
I only see USER Presets when I click preset(Adobe Default, Camera Settings, PRESET). No Color, Creative, B&W, Defaults ... What can I do without losing my user presets? Lightroom Classic newest version. Thanks!
I was wondering what happened since the last time I change from Adobe Default to Camera specific in a prior LR update. Today I looked and it was back to Adobe Default. Seem I didn't look sine the last LR update.
Thanks for this very useful info Anthony. I immediately checked LR and found the RAW default settings were applied to my recent imports! In the treatment/profile section drop down box, I don't seem to have an option for camera standard! Any idea why please? Also, do you know if images are treated the same way if you bypass LR and go from bridge to Camera RAW?
@@keithsimpson8676 Thanks, I did that but there is no camera standard option there. There are option for profiles such as Basic, Artistic, B&W, Vintage, and Modern.

You literally solved my nightmare in Lr. Thank you so much!

Thank you Anthony. I have no set everything up and this does make life a lot easier.
Finally.. And I'm more amazed Goolge pushed this video to me, this is some deep learning sht
Very valuable time saving tip. I really like your style of presentation too. Cheers Mate!
These are so useful for beginners and save so much time. Thanks for the content!!
One of those videos when I want to head straight over to my LR and make changes, great!
Me too. I follow along, switching back and forth between UA-cam and Lightroom.
Very useful video. When I click on the Preset + sign I get an option called “import preset”. How does this differ from creating a preset to use in Preferences??
Love this. Thank you soooo much!!
Do you recommend using camera vs. Adobe. You showed both but not sure if there's a good, better, best way.
Great info. I didn't know Lightroom applied settings to RAW files. Thanks.

Not all the cameras I use appear in the Camera drop down list list. Do I have to do anything to force it to update?
Really helpful, Anthony. Thank you!
THANKS
Thanks. That was very useful.
I built a User Preset to Auto-Sync after importing my photos, but this saves a step!
Great, thanks, Anthony. But why do you keep the Adobe Profile in your RAW Default preset? Should one not check the Camera Profile?

excellent, as always
I'm having issue when I send photos from Lr to PS. Colors shift slightly. Canon R5 user, can' figure out why.
Hi, thanks for the video, related to raw processing, how gooe lr handles fuji raw now? Is c1 still better?

Good, but what if you have GoPro and GP doesn't have RAW. Raw Defalts not see jpg cameras :/

Some fine looking Buffalo waterfront images . . .
Looks like I can do the same in LR Mobile where I often import camera raw files. Thanks.
Are use an older version of Lightroom. What is the link for your older video for previous versions of LR.
Same question here...
Dumb question but why is the right side of the "Amount" slider in the "Detail" panel shaded red?
My guess is that it's there to warn you of the potential over-sharpening at those settings.
Why don’t you want any sharpening? Thanks

garykingphotographer open the profile dialog box, then click on the word browse. From there choose camera standard.

Settings>>updated!
Very helpful, thanks!
