    I have been using the Map function in LR for many years. From the moment it was introduced to LR. I think it's a great feature. When I import photos into LR, one of the first thing I do is to manually add GPS-data to the photos. Nothing wrong with my memory, so it's easy to remember the exact locations of each photo. In the Map module it's very easy to add the GPS location of each photo. Never used an app to sync the GPS-data and seeing your video, I never will use an app for that. Besides, it's actually fun to add each photo to the map.

    As always, thank you for your tips. Your insight is much appreciated. I did a trip last night and applied the Geotagging coords and it works really well. The Geotag app is around £10 so that is a bit high but it works rather well so I may just get it today. Thanks Anthony!

    It would be great to be able to select the type of map within LRC, eg. Open Street Maps instead of Google Maps. I have seen such functionality in some geo related programs.

      I agree. I'm an OSM mapper and have spent some time mapping Delaware Park and Hoyt Lake for OSM, which is what you're seeing in the background in the photos Anthony used in this video. I was born in Buffalo but hardly ever visit anymore. Despite that, I still do some OSM mapping in the area using satellite imagery.

    With Sony A7 IV the Image Edge app on firmware 1.11 or Creator on firmware 2.0 app will save the geotag to the ARW file.

    It looks like when you use this method the GPS coordinates are being entered in Lightroom normally. But what about the five lines above the GPS? When a photo taken with iPhone is uploaded it populates the city, state, country information. Is that a limitation of the Geotag Photos Pro app or this process in general?

    Interesting, looks like I have to use Lightroom classic to move or place images on the map, as with Lightroom I have to put co ordinates in, and if I click on the map a web browser, in my case Firefox, opens up google maps.

    I have been using an external GPS module with my Nikon bodies for years. As my wife and I get older, all the many places we have visited do get mixed up. We do try to name our directories as accurate as possible, but having the GPS data is huge. But for some reason Lightroom ( which is totally up to date ) is not showing locations on the map. We have yet to get to the bottom of this, it was always there before. I'm guessing it got turned off somehow. I need to spend some time and figure it out. It is a feature we love.

    Something else you can easily do is this. Assuming you can remember where you were when you took the image, go to Google maps and search for that spot. Right click (for Windows) on that location and you will see an option that says "What's here" select that and the latitude and longitude are shown. Copy and paste that data into Lightroom, in the GPS data field for an image, when in the Library module. I have done this for many images that are either pre-digital and scanned in, or just old stuff, and it works well.

    • @TorstenVillnow
      @TorstenVillnow 3 роки тому +1

      There is a much easier solution: open the map module in LRC, move to the location where you were, and simply drag and drop the image(s) to that location.

    • @timbanks260
      @timbanks260 3 роки тому

      @@TorstenVillnow Great if you have a version of Lightroom that still works with Maps (didn't know you could drag and drop) my version doesn't work with Maps. I still use Google Picasa which does. Good tip though :-)

      I use both LR maps and Google Maps to find locations where I have taken pictures. If I am not sure exactly where I was when I took the picture, I will use Google maps and then Browse Street View to refine my location. Many hiking trails have both street view and multiple contributed pictures. For popular locations, it is easy to find another view that looks just like yours. You can then left click to create a pin location and copy the coordinates or right click and copy the coordinates and paste into LR. LR accepts either Deg/Min/Sec or Decimal Deg.

    I noticed that when you relocated the positions, it seems to erase the altitude data that was recorded.

    • @jasonheminger4844
      @jasonheminger4844 3 роки тому

      That's because that data is part of the GPS track imported...if you move it off the track, that information is gone.

      But, doesn't the Lat/Long also come from the tracking data; it gets adjusted.

    The GPS in cell phones is often not that accurate, so in your example of it puting you in the middle of the lake is not that uncommon. I use a hand held GPS that is much more accurate.
    You need to cover what how to use the time offset funtion for when the camera time stamp does not match up with the track data.

    Nice, but Adobe has disabled the map module for older versions of Lightroom. I understand and can accept that i no longer receive updates for LR6, but it's unconscionable for Adobe to remove functionality that i bought and paid for.

    • @RH-cv1rg
      @RH-cv1rg 3 роки тому +1

      The map portion isn't an Adobe product. Adobe has to license the map module and pay a fee to Google. I think it is reasonable for Adobe to cancel support after a period of time when they are no longer receiving money to reimburse another company for your consumption. Under your scenario Adobe would have to pay Google for 10-20-50 years as long as you use LR6 without any compensation.

      @jasonheminger4844 3 роки тому

      @@MrRonRobertson No, it's as R H said...Adobe pays a recurring fee to Google to license the map data. I think it's more than fair for Adobe to only pay Google for the version being actively paid for.
