Thanks for the info. I live in eastern Iowa and would love to see him while we're both still around! I think he's from Quincy, Illinois, down the big river some miles from Keokuk.
I love Bob Havens. I love his playing and I love him he always sounded so wonderful and special and he was such a great talent I just lived to hear every note from the trombone. Always in my heart and mind 🎵🎶⭐️⭐️⭐️♥️
I LOVE HIM. Such talent, Im always thrilled when he's featured on The Lawrence Welk Show. My greatest respects and admiration to Mr. Havens !!! YEAH!!❤
@tromboneJTS Bob is my favorite too!! There is an old black and white clip of Jack Teagarden doing this song and at the end he says "I'm going to take a TRAMbone coda". Must be where Bob got the idea for the Cadenza and I've read Jack was Bob's hero.
Whenever Bob had a chance to do a solo (way too few sadly) he definitely made the most of it! Such an underrated trombone player, he would have been successful no matter what band he played in.
Quinn Parker,, I know this is old post but had to agree with you, Big T was absolutely like non other. Notice how all T-bone players have to use the slide all the way in the low notes and for vibrato, Jack started playing so young that his little arms at the time couldn't reach that length so he developed it all with armature keeping the slide close to the top! I heard it said that if Big T walked into a club Tommy Dorsey or Glenn Miller had a ruff time performing in front of the king!
His is a very good trombonist - that is for sure. However, I guess Mr. Welk never got a chance to meet or hear Bill Watrous, Urbie Green, or Carl Fontana🙂
Funny, when I was a kid I hated this show, but now I love these old clips. True musicianship here.
This is wonderful
Every time I listen to this piece I'm amazed at the nuance and articulation Bob puts into it. He's a phenomenal horn player!
He plays in a band in keokuk iowa occasionally nowadays. He still has it lol
Just saw him there in June. It was awesome.

It's now more than 30 years later, and he's still as great as ever.
Just discovered another great trombone player. My day just got better.
Incredible...

Outstanding. I love Lawrence Welk.
Bob's the man! It's been too long since I've had the pleasure. Enjoy!
Hej, Bob, take another CADENZA!
tromboneJTS ich
It is obvious from his trombone playing that Bob Havens was was a fan of Jack Teagarden. Both were great musicians.
I love this it's so beautiful I want to play like that.
Just do it.
@@Faramir1999 It's not that easy lmao
It's an absolute fact that Bob was trained by Jack Teagarden.
Pretty good solo !
magic...!
I hated this instrument for years. I can’t anymore. He makes it sound so beautiful.
Obvious Jack Teagarden influences in his playing :)

I think Bob came to Lawrence Welk from Big Al Hirt's band. He's featured on Hirt's Pier 49 (?) alvum. Monster player.
Looking for more playing trombone with the floor

Great.
I put Bob Havens right up there with Glenn Miller.

His is a very good trombonist - that is for sure. However, I guess Mr. Welk never got a chance to meet or hear Bill Watrous, Urbie Green, or Carl Fontana🙂
