I feel lucky i found your videos. I lived in japan and had a beautiful tree in my house but i had to leave it there. In Australia ficus umbellata is quite rare and the only one i can find at nurseries is a 2m tall, single stem plant with only leaves on the very top (no branches at all). I wonder if it is possible to cut the tree at better lenght to encourage branching? I am afraid that cutting the top off and leave no other that a cut trunk will kill the plant. Thank you
Cool content! please update more on this plant...
Thanks a lot! We will keep it updated.
Beautiful house plants you’ve got , see later
Thank you.
Hello. Thank you for great videos and expertise. I hope this reaches you…I have a 7ft tall umbellata. Lately … there has been leaf shrinkage and a noticeable loss of green colour. What could have gone wrong? Overwatering? Too much sun? I do not see any pests. Is there any way to stop shrinkage?
Thank you
Thanks for the video. I just got an umbelletta for Christmas and all the leaves dropped 😳😔 Its near a sunny window and I water it weekly. Doesn’t seem dead. I’m hoping it will revive come spring.
When all the leaves are dropped, we might not need to water it too much, rather we can wait that soil in the pot is dried. I hope that your Umbellata gets recovered in spring!🪴
@@japaneseplantmeisterzen8297 I will try watering it less. Thanks for the response and the tips.
Hi, I just bought an umbellata, quite young at a height of 1.2m. It only has a single trunk. Can you share what you would do to encourage more branches and whether you would let it grow taller before doing so? A tutorial on such form manipulations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Hello, by cutting the top, new rubs will come out there leading to several branches, however, we cannot predict on how many new rubs are expected - only one at a worst case. When warm seasons come, you can cut off all the leaves besides the top, resulting in generating new rubs everywhere encouraging more branches. Of note, the second method is not recommended at cold time, but alternatively you can bend the single trunk. Accordingly a new rub will come from the bended part, and we will have a few branches without cutting the top. I hope from Japan that your umbellata goes well during the cold season. Thank you.
@@japaneseplantmeisterzen8297 Thanks for your response! Can I do the bending in winter or should I do it during warmer months too?
Hi, you can do the bending in winter. Thanks!
Thank you so much for this video! How frequently do you prefer to spray the leaves?
Thanks for asking. Depending on the circumstance that your plant is located, spraying the leaves twice or three times per week will be fine.
What should I use in case spider mite or other insects attack my Umbellata?
I would use houseplant insect sprays for my daily plant rental service business which are available in the region, especially if non-chemical methods are not working. Otherwise, applying the revival method by cutting the leaves off may be helpful, which the video will be posted later. Thanks a lot for asking.
Hi! I live in Japan. My umbellata is shredding leaves and it’s not budding. It has only one stem. I also worry it’s becoming too tall. Can I cut the stem now to prevent it from becoming too tall and to revive it before spring?
Hello, thanks for asking. I would recommend doing so only if your umbellate is placed in a sufficiently warm room with an enough amount of sunlight, otherwise we would wait for reviving the umbellate by spring. Hopefully you can manage it during this cold winter season.
How tall it gets??
How tall it gets??????
If you can grow it properly, it will grow to about 20 feet.
Can I buy it online? I am from France
sorry. I am in Japan so I cannot ship to France.
