I never found the drop mechanic to be to bad, in fact, I played through the entire game as sora (for the most part ) then went back to riku. Basically felt like 2 playthroughs
You basically said that was so useless you decided not to use it. You're sayin Its only redeeming quality is that it wasn't so invasive you had to use it.
Kingdom hearts Union X is really fun, I love gathering the artwork from multiple kingdom hearts games and using their flashy attacks in battle. I also really love the scene with the keyblade war.
Dude this video is extremely creative. The fact that Antdude and John use the sleep mechanic to use in the video is just impressive. I really have to tip my hat to them. Even though I disagree with them because I actually like the game and I understand the story, I have to admire the creativity. I had a good laugh. P.S. : kh chain of memories and 3D do need to exist.
SShaBazzz Agreed :D DDD is kinda tied with Birth by Sleep for my favorite KH game, and Chain of Memories is right behind them. I actually love the (needless?) complexity the series has because it makes it fun to theorize about.
I also love DDD (but it’s probably my 3rd favorite after 2 and Birth By Sleep), but without Chain of Memories, how do we know why Sora was sleeping for a full year? Sure 358/2 Days explains this, but 358/2 Days doesn’t explain why Mickey and Riku are wearing Organization 13 robes. 358/2 Days also doesn’t explain why some of the organization members are unaccounted for in KH2. As for DDD, it will show why Kairi was at Yen Sid’s tower during 0.2 Birth By Sleep in the 2.8 HD collection. DDD also gave the plot of Re:Coded some relevancy to the overarching story regarding Pete and Maleficant, which is actually saying something since Re:Coded had no major plot relevance to the overarching story prior to DDD, but it’s not saying a lot.
Proc of the Dawn for me KH2 holds the title of my favorite KH game but it's to be expected because KH2 is my favorite game of all time. It's the only game I like better then "Custom Robo." But I think DDD is a really good addition to KH as a whole. And I think the same way. It's the complexity that keeps me coming back because I want to see how the fill in the plot points.
Yeah 2 things said that aren't true. Like, at all. 1. These 2 games aren't spinoffs, no matter the explanation. They just feel different. 2. These games do need to exist because they tie in to other games and are required to get the entire story.
I’ve watched a few of these, and there are things relating to story, gameplay, the lore, background behind the games in their various forms that you must have ignored or not done the research on. The drop gauge and switching between Sora and Riku is revealed in The World That Never Was as Riku being in Sora’s dream while Sora is in the Sleeping Worlds. Riku cannot be active while Sora is awake, and once Sora falls asleep Riku can continue because he’s in Sora’s dream. It’s foreshadowed by Riku’s hoodie having the dream eater symbol on the back and Riku’s limit being him merging with his team of Dream eaters instead of interacting with them as Sora does. It make sense with the level design to a certain degree as well. In the Pinocchio world Sora gets the theme park and underwater, while Riku gets inside Monstro, where Sora had visited in Kingdom Hearts 1.
Going through kinda a tough time right now!! These videos really making me feel better and love the KH series and have been wanting to replay them badly lately
Every time I come to a Kingdom Hearts video, I always think "Look at this ridiculous plot! Look at these dreadful mechanics! Man, the Kingdom Hearts series is just a big load of dumb!" but then I hear "Dearly Beloved" and remember that I actually like the series for some reason. Damn it's a good tune.
Honestly I love this game's combat. Using cute adorable creatures bouncing off walls. Some super fun stuff. I do find it weird that ALL of the story is put into the last world of the game. Kingdom Hearts 2 has a super story part after every 2 or 3 Disney Worlds. This game has you do the final battle then you get 3 hours of cutscenes and explanations. The drop mechanic is super dumb though they shouldv'e done it like Birth by Sleep where you just chose one in the begining or you can switch between the 2 on the map and need to clear all of a certain amount of worlds with both characters before both can advance (A la Fire Emblem Echoes)
2:44 I agree. It looks really weird seeing Riku and Sora next to "real" people in that world, especially compared to how much better Space Paranoids adapted the artstyle of the movie with the anime design of Sora and it doesn't make sense they're in a sequel to Tron when there already was a Tron World in KH2 even with the explanation that Space Paranoids is a copy of The Grid.
Naw, I'm getting a physical copy, my DS collection is somewhat on the small side, and, along with Chrono Trigger, another JPRG I have heard nothing but good things about-I'm getting it. Maybe for Christmas present to myself this year, just not right now due to money problems.
Antdude I can't believe that you released your Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance review within a short period before Johnny posted his (UPDATE. The hilarious cameo from Johnny makes that seem intentional) Also Antdude pretty sure Joshscorcher blood came to a boil when you said all of the bosses are easily abusable. Why? Two words. War goyle
True, dude/lady, true. Axel is cool, and so is Neku. I really should check out The World Ends With You. Didn't that game get a sequel? Also, your name sounds familiar, do I know you? Glad to see Neku and his friends in a Kingdom Hearts game, but would they ever show up again? I'm glad Neku and The World Ends With You cast were in a good KH game. Not a bad one, like Re:Com, or coded, or something, you know, dude/dudette?
God bless KHinsider for playing KH X and loading the cutscenes I pretty much threw my phone across the room for how LONG it gets to one "important" cutscene on my own. Anyways thanks for the reviews they were fun.
The amount of time it took Johnny to finish this marathon: 4 months The amount of time it took antdude to finish this marathon: 1 year and a half , Seems legit.
They actually revealed the Kingdom Hearts III is coming out 2018. Rumors suggest March but I imagine we will be getting some confirmation in the coming months.
You and Johnny uploaded the same game review at the same exact time. Some weird shit is about to go down now. Thanks for breaking the timeline now you guys
Same here, dude. I love Dream Drop Distance, but I seriously hated the timer system. I kept buying Drop Me Nots, and kept the story consistent between Sora and Riku, committing to completing one world as Sora, and then as Riku, until the game ended. Still, had a great time. Not as good of a KH game as 2FM, or 1FM, or BBSFM, or 0.2, BBS: A Fragmentary Passage(because 3DDD is better than 0.2), but, it's a good game, and a good time. I didn't like the Dream Eaters that much, but some of them were cute, I guess. Like the cat one, the dog ones, and it was cool to explore the city from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. One of my favorite Disney movies as a kid. I agree, dude. That timer sucks. Especially when you're in the middle of a boss fight, and you "drop", in the middle of it! It happened way too much during the game. But, Riku's story is better, and I bought tons of Drop Me Nots, with the extra munny. Still, why did they even HAVE to do something like that? It ruins an otherwise good KH game. Nobody wants some stupid timer to drop your character on the spot, especially when you're in the middle of an intense boss battle. It made for a good skit between SomecallmeJohnny and AntDude, but it's a HORRIBLE game mechanic. The worst one implemented into a KH game since the card battle system from Chain Of Memories, in my opinion.
I like all of the comments that say that he uploaded at the same time as Johnny, because you just have to get ten minutes in to see that it was intentional.
I'm a bit disappointed you didn't mention the reality shift function. This added some nice variety to combat. Still, the boss battles were made too easy with the balloon attack, and firaga burst. The only battle that felt like a real boss battle was against Julius, who isn't part of the main story.
Yes, Yen Sid thought that by reverting them to their younger selves they would "unlearn" their self taught skills and learn the "proper" way. Nomura still hasn't explained the why of Yen Sid thinking that though.
10:30 Kirby: "Okay Metroid, you wanna get off of my head now? Because I'm starting to feel a little sluggish..." Metroid: "...No..." Kirby: "Come on now, Antdude already reviewed Samus Returns, it's time to go!" Metroid: "Mmmmmmmmmm...no..." Kirby: "(...'Come on Kirby, it's only for a day', Samus says. 'You're practically indestructible, why not watch him', Samus says...! I'm never doing favors for her again...)"
I actually kinda blame Tetsuya Nomura for how the story is in KH. Because even though he's good with ideas like mixing Disney and Final Fantasy together and the keyblade thing and the gameplay and all that, i don't think he's very good at story telling and i think he should've let someone else handle the story and him just handle the gameplay and the character designs and all that and that's it.
Agree, but then you have more mechanics than necessary to make it seem deep and engaging (flowmotion, re:coded wor'd mechanics, etc.). So let someone else handle those also
Time travel, convoluted plot, Dumb names, games on multiple consoles, not explaining anything at all. The only KH that have good story are the frist 3, KH 1, Kh com and somewhat Kh 2 because half of KH 2 is fucking filler...oh and i forgot about BBS which pretty much ripping star wars ( In some way or another) BUt is cool BBS WAS COOL...them...everything goes to shit. and No 358/2 days is as pointless as re codec.
So the events of the game take place in a "Dream world" which is why there is so much weird shit, like the Dream Eaters, and the younger versions of Riku and Sora. Tron Legacy is still fresh for the game being out only 2 years before the movie also it's supposed to be a sequel to Sora meeting Tron in KH2. I will admit it got a tad convoluted with the Xeonort thing, but do you really expect them to not use a villain they just set up?
Y'know, the whole "turning a bunch of people into Xehanort" thing actually seems a lot more plausible when you remember the exact same thing happened to Riku in the first game. Yeah, when Ansem appeared in human form after he possessed Riku, that was still Riku's body. It's how Riku was able to stop him from moving that one time before his heart was sent to the realm of darkness. Hell, Riku _physically turned into him_ for most of KH2 while a part of him was still lingering in his heart.
Thanks for all this Retrospective man. I haven't played this one from all KH games so it was interested to see all the story. Also how many times can we fight the same guy? Come on...But thanks for all your work man.
*I always defend KH 3D but by all means feel free to shit on KH Unchained X, Union Cross, & Back Cover they are embarrassments. With that said, The way I see it, The reason why Yen Sid made Sora & Riku take the mark of mastery exam is because they needed to control the darkness within their hearts along with the lightside so they are strong enough to take out Xehanort once and for all and not end up like Terra at the end of BBS. (Granted it wasn't explained this way in game but that's what made sense to me) Especially since Riku gets possessed by Ansem Seeker of Darkness (KH I) & Sora gets possessed anti-form style (KH II) This game has a beautiful resolve for Riku finally understanding you need both light and dark balanced and being rewarded as keyblade master. Now what I would LOVE to see next in KH III keep in mind Riku is my favorite character... Riku should die, Yep I said it, during the KH III journey Riku should die so that the darkness can completely overcome Sora setting him on a rampage (Like Terra) and ultimately controlled by the organization (Which has been hinted in 3D and KH III trailers) Leading the organization to find Kingdom Hearts (Finally) with Sora wielding the X blade. Rescued by Kairi and the gang later, and Sora restoring order for end game. PS4 version fixed alot of the problems in the 3DS version. 3 deck command instead of 2. No dumb 3DS street pass trophy. The drop gage improved a great deal as well in PS4 port & 60fps
oh, man, didnt know this was uploaded a few days ago. i enjoyed these, antdude, i just realized you look like lowery from Jurassic world, and its awesome
Thank you for helping me understand my reservations toward getting back into this series. I'm very, very tentatively looking forward to KH3. Definitely not pre-ordering it. And honestly, I think my disenchantment with the series began when they killed off the (at the time, to me) most interesting/developed character) Xion. As a person who has played most of the games pre-BBS, the story still doesn't really make sense... BUT FRIENDSHIP. Apparently.
I know it doesn't seem like an obvious pick but Symphony of Sorcery is honestly one of my favorite world's in all of Kingdom Hearts. The music and imagery is phenomenal.

It was a super optional mechanic that people complain so much about and I'll never get why.
Because it's an unnecessary mechanic that adds nothing.
You basically said that was so useless you decided not to use it. You're sayin Its only redeeming quality is that it wasn't so invasive you had to use it.
Honestly this is my second favorite game in the series
The world ends with you was produced by Nomura that’s why they were in this game.
Yen Sid believed Kairi would have an important role in the final battle.
Well, we know how that played out... He wasn't wrong...
After watching both Antdude and Somecallmejohnny video, I love that little joke they did about the drop meter XD
“Just a mechanic thrown into bbs for the sake of it.” I am not sure if this is a joke or a mistake but I was funny nonetheless
Do a TWEWY review, please
Watching this in the year that world ends with you 2 is coming out is funny
Kingdom hearts Union X is really fun, I love gathering the artwork from multiple kingdom hearts games and using their flashy attacks in battle. I also really love the scene with the keyblade war.
Me too. But, I didn't finish Kingdom Hearts Union X.
It's the only game I like better then "Custom Robo."
But I think DDD is a really good addition to KH as a whole.
And I think the same way. It's the complexity that keeps me coming back because I want to see how the fill in the plot points.
Mojo1426 exactly, each game has a crucial plot point. It's actually pretty genius.
Synced release of review with johnny
*WHO DID THIS*
TheJamaicanGamer Them. There's a joke in the video
Antdude thanks alot I binged watched everything you did a wonderful job with these 😀👍
Going through kinda a tough time right now!!
Laughs* ya know NEO:the world ends with u is comming out
2:44 I agree.
Also just a point that out, I think it's time for you to do a world ends with you video because of the fact of the sequel coming out soon…
Twewy 2 confirmed my child. Rest easy. 2021 will be our time!
You honestly deserve more subs and followers
I love all the "omg Johnny and AntDude dropped a video at the same time, it can't be a coincidence!" When both videos clearly show it isn't
That moment when you haven't played TWEWY, but you really want to, because it looks cool and fun...=(
Its a must play game believe me its worth it.
I'm sure it is. One of these damn days that game will be in my hands, you can count on it!
There is still emulator option if you can't get ir
Naw, I'm getting a physical copy, my DS collection is somewhat on the small side, and, along with Chrono Trigger, another JPRG I have heard nothing but good things about-I'm getting it. Maybe for Christmas present to myself this year, just not right now due to money problems.
Cool. Can't wait, then!
Antdude I can't believe that you released your Kingdom Hearts Dream Drop Distance review within a short period before Johnny posted his (UPDATE. The hilarious cameo from Johnny makes that seem intentional)
Also Antdude pretty sure Joshscorcher blood came to a boil when you said all of the bosses are easily abusable. Why? Two words. War goyle
Oh well, at least Axel and Neku are in this game.😍
True, dude/lady, true. Axel is cool, and so is Neku. I really should check out The World Ends With You. Didn't that game get a sequel? Also, your name sounds familiar, do I know you? Glad to see Neku and his friends in a Kingdom Hearts game, but would they ever show up again? I'm glad Neku and The World Ends With You cast were in a good KH game. Not a bad one, like Re:Com, or coded, or something, you know, dude/dudette?
You have come a long way since your Sonikdude101 days
God bless KHinsider for playing KH X and loading the cutscenes I pretty much threw my phone across the room for how LONG it gets to one "important" cutscene on my own. Anyways thanks for the reviews they were fun.
I am having a weird sense of deja vu right now...
The amount of time it took Johnny to finish this marathon: 4 months
The amount of time it took antdude to finish this marathon: 1 year and a half ,
Seems legit.
They actually revealed the Kingdom Hearts III is coming out 2018. Rumors suggest March but I imagine we will be getting some confirmation in the coming months.
You called it, it got a sequel.
Kingdom hearts lore < Kirby lore
Bluster The Benevolent lol
Bluster The Benevolent Kirby's at least subtle with its story telling
I... Don't make me choose between my favorite game serieses!
Agreed. Queen Sectonia has a really compelling character arc, even if it's in the background.
Bluster The Benevolent best Instagram page coming thru
You and Johnny uploaded the same game review at the same exact time. Some weird shit is about to go down now. Thanks for breaking the timeline now you guys
I enjoyed Dream Drop distance, I only disliked the timers to switch between characters which is frustrating during boss battles.
I really love what you said. I honestly think they should have just ended the series after KH2 story wise personally.
May I ask if your opinion about 3D's story is different now in 2021, given we did very much need this plot for KH3?
The four versions of kingdom hearts X makes the story deep and surprisingly has an influence for kingdom hearts 3
I legit just binged all 7 episodes of this Retrospective. Worth it.
WE NEAR KH3.
I loved Tron in this game, it was my favorite world honestly.
Omg two ddd reviews in one day hell yea!
I'm a bit disappointed you didn't mention the reality shift function. This added some nice variety to combat.
Still, the boss battles were made too easy with the balloon attack, and firaga burst. The only battle that felt like a real boss battle was against Julius, who isn't part of the main story.
Wow, you and Johnny both post a video on this game within a few hours of each other..
I knew Johnny and Antdude releasing the same video of the game on the same day was fishy! 🤣 amazing
Yes, Yen Sid thought that by reverting them to their younger selves they would "unlearn" their self taught skills and learn the "proper" way. Nomura still hasn't explained the why of Yen Sid thinking that though.
I believe the Tron thing was because at the same time of this game's release/ production, Legacy was coming out for theaters
10:30
Kirby: "Okay Metroid, you wanna get off of my head now? Because I'm starting to feel a little sluggish..."
Metroid: "...No..."
Kirby: "Come on now, Antdude already reviewed Samus Returns, it's time to go!"
Metroid: "Mmmmmmmmmm...no..."
Kirby: "(...'Come on Kirby, it's only for a day', Samus says. 'You're practically indestructible, why not watch him', Samus says...! I'm never doing favors for her again...)"
Was really hoping you would have the Johnny cameo as well, very pleased! Great video as well, you got a new sub! (:
I actually kinda blame Tetsuya Nomura for how the story is in KH. Because even though he's good with ideas like mixing Disney and Final Fantasy together and the keyblade thing and the gameplay and all that, i don't think he's very good at story telling and i think he should've let someone else handle the story and him just handle the gameplay and the character designs and all that and that's it.
Isaiah Rivers You're absolutely right. Just look at FFXIII
Isaiah Rivers And why, exactly is the kh series plot bad?
@@raulrojas9253 .... Do you have any idea what you're talking about?
At the end when he said"What did we learn?"I was half expecting him to say "That this was a mistake" That would have been funny lol
After the movie* and Yen Sid de-aged Sora and Riku for symbolism.
Sounds more stupid thsn anything else.
What a coincidence. SomecallmeJohnny uploaded a video on dream drop distance as well within the same hour
In Re: Coded's secret ending it explains how and why he was revived.
*I always defend KH 3D but by all means feel free to shit on KH Unchained X, Union Cross, & Back Cover they are embarrassments.
With that said,
The way I see it, The reason why Yen Sid made Sora & Riku take the mark of mastery exam is because they needed to control the darkness within their hearts along with the lightside so they are strong enough to take out Xehanort once and for all and not end up like Terra at the end of BBS. (Granted it wasn't explained this way in game but that's what made sense to me) Especially since Riku gets possessed by Ansem Seeker of Darkness (KH I) & Sora gets possessed anti-form style (KH II)
This game has a beautiful resolve for Riku finally understanding you need both light and dark balanced and being rewarded as keyblade master.
You ruined my picnic... wait
sorry dude wrong ant
oh, man, didnt know this was uploaded a few days ago. i enjoyed these, antdude, i just realized you look like lowery from Jurassic world, and its awesome
Why Lea have a keyblade?? You miss something man, 7 light and 13 darkness lore
No the whole time thing actually happened after he got the keyblade.
I love this game's plot, of course I absolutely love time travel plots.
Who made that remix of Dearly Beloved at 1:23?
PLEASE do a review on Crash of the Titans!
It's the only major Crash game you still haven't done a proper review on.
Apparently.
