Also, what the hell is everyone's problem with the ice cream line?! It's a good line! Sure, it's really dumb if it's taken out of context. But in context, it's a powerful line. Roxas never truly understood friendship. To him, friendship was eating ice cream with Axel and Xion every day. For him, not having anyone left to eat ice cream with meant his friendships were gone. He abandoned Axel and the Organization, and now Xion was dying and soon to be completely forgotten. He was alone now. In short, that line is not about the ice cream itself; it's about what it meant to them. I really don't understand how people don't see that, take it at face value, then laugh or cringe.
I imagined it as more of like Roxas trying to think of something, anything to keep Xion with him. With that just being the first thing that came to his head. And I feel like both of our ideas really connect, so cool.
I understand the significance of the Ice Cream thing, but I still can't help but laugh every time I hear it. It just sounds so silly out of context, if I was lying there dying and my friend said that I would probably smack them lol
I agree, but the manga handled that scene better "I still want the three of us to have ice cream together! Didn't we promise to go to the beach together!?!"
Damn same, I think a bit over than yours. I replayed the boss battle so many times when I was a kid. That it went to that many hours. The cutscenes hit me hard
I really wished they fully remade 358/2 days. If they made chain of memories as a movie, that'd be great! Well, at least there's the 358/2 HD fan remake
the thing is,recom was made around the time the original days was made. so it was not an option to just not include it,it would have been cheap af(even tho i dont like the remake anyways)
What is there about him that would make him the "Best"? His "tragic" backstory? Cause when it comes down to his actual character, he's really just an emo Sora.
I actually LOVE the story in this game. Roxas, Xion and Axel become interesting characters and it all ends tragically. If a game succeeds in tugging the heart strings, I'll give credit where it's due. The gameplay, however... GEEZ, what a grind!
JonnyLikesGames87 I play it on proud and it isn't a grind. Mostly because mission mode and the challenges, you need to do. Haste is a great ability because of how slow Roxas is.
@@ForrestFox626 I wouldn’t necessarily say it destroyed it, since it’s still a pretty emotional self-contained story, despite its consequences being undone in the future. But these three legitimately deserve a happy ending, so I’m ultimately fine with it.
For all its faults, 358/2 days is still my favourite entry in the series. Really pushed the console, an emotional story, excellent multiplayer, great secret content and improvements on some previous worlds like Neverland.
There are only 3 games that have made me cry. 358/2, The Last Guardian and Layton vs Phoenix Wright. Of all of them, 358/2 still impacts on me the most.
Personally I enjoyed the game myself. Out of the KH games I've played, it would still probably be the lowest, but I enjoyed it. And the Final Boss man, it was a real treat. You have multiple forms that take place in arenas of every World you visit, and each form as a different fighting style based on Sora's limits.
Final boss is cool, yet it's mostly the same thing over and over (avoid the attack, run and combo, rince and repeat.) There really was a lack of interesting gimmick, but the music/pace did overhaul the whole process quite nicely.
Samuelpothier Every now and then, a good, solid boss that's a straight forward through down or sword fight can be amazing. Coupled with a thematic gimmick as opposed to a mechanical one, and you get a memorable story fight.
The story is easily my favorite in the whole series. While it does moves slowly, it does so in order for you to understand and symphatize with those characters. The trio feels far more humane than pretty much any other characters in the series - far more than Sora/Riku/Kairi, or Sora/Donald/Goofy and definitely far more than Terra/Ven/Aqua (which IMO just feel like three walking wooden boards, they don't feel like real friends AT ALL). It is a masterpiece of a story, sadly limited by the game's pacing. This game alone made Roxas my favorite KH character, made me like Axel a real lot (was kinda impartial to him) and makes me sad whenever I remember Xion. Man, her music theme always makes me teary-eyed, and seeing her appearance in KH3D... ughhhh the feels. But I have to agree with AntDude... the gameplay is a _hot mess_. Ironically, the one I like the least in the whole franchise. The missions just drag on and on, combat feels slow, magic is situational and meh, the grid mechanic is a chore in the lategame, and the mission structure severely limits exploration and just streamlines everything into a painful snoozefest. Hell, even the bonus boss (Dustflier) is underwhelming. For me, this game was always a weird paradox. I like it kinda, but I know it's just because of its story.
I think youre right. This game has a few weaknesses, but man. Roxas is a really great character, isnt it ? And i like the tragedy. This story shows the dark side of the Kingdom Hearts series (alongside BBS of course).
I know this is two years old or whatever and KH3 is out, but people understand Roxas in this game was equivalent to a new born baby put inside an adult body and thrown into a cult. Those moments he shared with axel and xion gave him his identity and reason to be in the organization. So yes it makes sense for him to respond when xion dies, "who else will I have ice cream with?" Because the poor kid literally didn't know what friendship was or what even his life meant without his friends.
I never got why everybody finds the "who else will I have ice cream with" line so cringe/ridiculous when it's said I mean it makes sense, up to that point ice cream is the most meaningful thing roxas does with his friends and it's not like knows what death is or how to deal with it hell this is the first time roxas is feeling something let alone dealing with grief, so ya he brings up the thing that means the most to the both of them what else would he say? He doesn't know how to deal with this
Everyone complains there are too many "They sat on the tower eating ice cream" moments but these were intentional. It's the only routine Roxas knows, yet he cherishes it. That's why that last line to Xion is so powerful. :)
It's been a while since I updated the Kingdom Hearts Retrospective, so as a Christmas gift to you guys, here's a new episode! To everyone else, you'll all be getting a late Christmas gift very soon~ So for the holidays, who are you all eating ice cream with?
The gameplay is fine but the story... Oh man I loved it. I loved the characters and the ending broke my little heart (especially with Xion's theme). Definitely one of the best stories in any video games for me.
358 was actually one of my favorite games in the series. I still play it once in awhile. Too bad the movie cuts out some really great scenes, like that fight with Saïx.
Me too, usually if you think the story is the most important 358 is the best of the two for you as its a really good story with alright game play and re:coded is the best if you game play is the most important thing for you for the opposite reasons.
There are quite a few things you had wrong about the game. Not talking about you not really enjoying the game. That's your opinion. But the title is describing the 358 days he spent with the organization then the 2 days he was in the digital world. Also, the line "Who else will I have ice cream with?" Is his way of saying you are my best friend don't leave me. With Roxas being a blank slate when he first joins Axel pretty much taught him, you eat ice cream with your best friends. So it isn't the act of eating ice cream he is going to miss. It's the fact that she was his best friend and now that she is gone he is losing the only other person aside from Axel he would want to eat it with. I.e. His best friend. It just shows his mental state and also calls back to the fact that just under a year ago he was nothing.
The tragic fact of the HD movie was that it WAS planned to be a fully playable remake like Re:CoM, but there just wasn't enough time to make the deadline. Also, what do you mean you'll never have a chance to have a shot at Mission Mode? Yes, it has multiplayer capabilities, but it was also built to be single-player!
CPRWL You mean like they did with KH1FM? Yeah, they lost the entire game so they had to recreate it. Also they've done that kind of thing before. Re:Chain of Memories was a freaking Gameboy game.
KH1FM's story is a myth. They never recreated the game from ground up. Re: Chain of Memories was remade because it fills a huge hole between KH1 and KH2, while this game is kind of useless. Moreover, when Re:Chain of Memories was made, it was a different time and Square-Enix had more resources, meaning it was easier for them to remake a whole game instead of just the movie.
This is actually my favorite KH game, the boss fights still give me nightmares and at the end it was so repetitive but this is the trio I care the most in KH. Kairi feels more like an object for Sora and Riku to fight for than a person and we dont see Terra, Aqua and Ventus interact as much as these 3. You can truly see how their friendship stronger every day till it starts to fall apart towards the end, making it jut more heartbreaking. And of course, that line sounds so stupid and it just kills the moment, but when you think about it, those moments at the top of the tower, eating ice cream with Axel and Xion, were the only moments of joy Roxas knew. For Roxas, ice cream meant happiness, he was like a child, he wasn't even 1 year old, what else could he say?
And of course you missed the meaning of "Who else will I have ice cream with" line not surprised in the slightest, is it so hard to understand that Roxas has linked Ice Cream with spending quality time with his dearest friends?
There's a better way to experience KH 358/2 Days. Read the manga adaption by Shiro Amano. It's the best KH manga I've ever read. The characters are fleshed out more, the humor is spot on, and the whole thing is very charming. Overall, I think the game is OK. I like the battle system, which goes back to KH1, but my main gripe is that the enemies feels like they should be KH2 instead of this game, because taking some of them out, especially the Leech Grave, that giant bird, and that heartless that won't stop running around the map, are not meant to be fought with the outdated combat system.
As a Kingdom Hearts fan, I could care less for the crazy plot, we can all agree the hack and slash button mashing and dodging with the abilities and level up system will always make me revisit. They could entirely fuck up Kingdom Hearts 3's plot but I wouldn't care, the gameplay is the definitive reason to enjoy these games
I feel that its kind of like the Final Fantasy games. There plots are all over the place, but most of them have solid game play. Emphasis on MOST OF THEM.
Honestly this is...one of the best game i've ever played, even on gameplay alone. I have no nostalgia for the game and played it this week, and it's so fun, especially the upgrade system. Making the most of every link feels amazing
Roxas final words towards Xion make A LOT of sense, my friend. Thinnk about it, Roxas is taught, that he has no emotions yada yada yada and everything someone is telling him, he believes it. Axel told him what a friend is and he says that it's a person who you can eat icecream with. That was Axels example BUT this is the pure definition of a friend for Roxas. With this in mind, it makes absolutly sense for Roxas to say this. He just doesn't really know better.
The re:Chain of Memories that appears in the 1.5 collection is a remaster of the PS2 version that was released in 2008, and that’s where the GBA visuals were upgraded to PS2 format.
I never understood the whole gripe with the multiple console thing back around this time pre smartphones. I saw alot of people with them on ds you get 3 kh titles with gba backwards compatibility or psp one really good one.
I don't hate that final line on Xion's death, and this is why: When Roxas was created he didn't know jack crap about the world, and he did what he was told...But when he made a friend, when he learned about the warmth of a friendship (get it? Warmth...cause is Ax-nevermind) what was it that he learned exactly? Friendship is hanging out with your friends after each mission on the top of that tower on twilight town, eating ice cream. That was his world...That was his favorite thing to do. He taught Xion about that type of friendship...And as stupid as it sound the phrase has a really deep meaning. Friendship, love...Sadness. That's why is so beautiful
The title is referring to the 358 days that Roxas spends in the Organization. The “over 2” part refers to how Roxas and Xion are experiencing these days separately, as two people. The remaining 7 days in the beginning of KH2 complete the full year (365 days) that Sora was asleep.
The ice cream line is very emotional on paper. My problem is with the delivery. Roxas sounds like an amateur voice actor over-dramatizing the line for a stage play, instead of a lost child facing the end of something so profound.
I actually beat this game twice when I was younger. It would be interesting to try it out again someday, but I’m pretty sure I wouldn’t like it as much. The emerald serenade missions alone make me hesitant. 358/2 doesn’t feel like a low effort game, but rather a game where a lot of effort was misplaced. It boggled my mind when I was younger that they made unique weapons for each organization member and even some of the unlock-able characters as well, but that’s a mission mode only luxury. I ended up unlocking most of the characters despite that though, except for Sora because screw getting 100% in every mission. The Keyblades that Roxas gets were also pretty cool if I remember correctly and I vastly preferred some of them to most of the Disney world keyblades found in the mainline entries. And to top it off I recall actually enjoying the Tetris inventory system. Never really bothered me that Level up panels were included, but I do recall not really bothering with much magic outside of specific missions so that may have made it feel less restrictive. Loved the game for a time, glad it was part of my childhood, probably will never beat it again though.
While 358/2 days has aged horribly, it's still leagues better than coded. At least 358/2 days is somewhat meaningful to the story coded is literally useless lmao
ToonRoxas I don't know what everyone's talking about. I had a great time with it and even went so far as to unlock Sora to play. He's not that great and doesn't have many weapon types.
ToonRoxas WTF? if you're talking about the original Coded, I agree. But if you are talking about ReCoded I disagree, ReCoded was wayyy better than 358/2 in every way IMO.
358/2 Days is my second favorite game of the series, and it's not nostalgia based as I just played it like 2 years ago. It's just a really good game. The slot sytem adds a layer of strategy, and resource management that's really enjoyable. Also Xion is tied with Aqua as best girl.
Reason the game wasn't ported to the 1.5 HD Remix was because with how the game was made for the DS, they'd have to make an entirely new game from the ground up just to add it in the collection. I know they did this for Chain of Memories, but they already released the PS2 remake before the collection. If they were going to remake it prior to the collection, I'd say it would be a different story. However, I can agree Days' battle system wasn't the best. Combo felt even weaker than any other game unless you were in mid-air to be honest
My first Kingdom Hearts game, just wrapping up the first game now and getting ready to play 2. I actually am more than happy to be catching up on this series, it is so freakin good.
This will always be my favorite kingdom hearts game i’m sorry, the emotional impact this game has had on me and the amount of fun i’ve had doesn’t compare to koh 2
I actually love 358/2 days! Despite the ridiculous name there was a lot about it I enjoyed. Combat wasn't the best in the series, but I still enjoyed it. I liked the mission structure as well. The story was one of my favorites in the series! Not too complicated but still very interesting. The end is amazing so I definitely recommend playing through the rest of the game!
You never bring up the Xemnas internal fight plot with Tera. When Roxas goes into a comatose state, Xemnas is concerned. Xemnas is concerned because Tera is still apart of Xemnas and Roxas looks exactly like Ventus which triggers Tara's emotion. It's also brought up again when Xigbar looks at Xion and sees Ventus.
I appreciate your thoughts, Antdude. Back when I played this game first in 2009, I enjoyed the slow grind of the game, and found playing as Roxas to be very satisfying. I just recently (within the last week) got back around to playing the original DS version. And you're right, it's such a horrible grind! I guess this just shows me growing up, but to go from spending 150 hours on my first run-through to barely being able to stomach 12? This game has not aged well for me.
basically for people that don't understand the title name it is the 358 1/2 days before the kh2 6 day prologue with roxas before sora wakes up because their is a year between kh 1 and kh 2 now if you are wondering like i was isnt this really between chain of memories and kh2 well no because we see in 358 that axel is gone at castle for a duration of time and this is to be assumed when chain of memories was ocurring so there i hope this helps someone who actually cares about how this title matters
You know, I think this kind of show hurts your ability to play games, I played through the whole of this game over about a month and I enjoyed it. I'm betting you had much less time, having to grind though hours at a time.
Halvos the grinding got boring and I got annoyed at the game too and this is coming from a hardcore kh fan who puts hours on every game I play. I too enjoy this game but I agree to what he was saying
***** I will admit it's been a few years since I played it so my memory might not be perfect of the game. I just remember having quite a bit of fun from it.
That's understandable, but actually not true. I've been playing these games months in advance. I've already got all my footage of Coded and Birth By Sleep done!
14:11 - Cut out scene can be downloaded as DLC on the PS4 1.5 + 2.5 HD ReMIX. Though I'm not sure if it's available on the PS3. Hope you find this helpful.
These graphics actually blew me away when this came out on DS. Sure, the characters are all pixelated, but the fact that they weren’t dumbed down or chibi-fied for the DS was so cool at the time. Same goes for seeing the old worlds ported to the handheld, though that really got old with Re:Coded. Still, yeah, the game does *not* hold up
... why was I not notified of this beforehand? I HIT THE BELL ICON, WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME, UA-cam? Still awesome retrospective. Love this series. :D
358 is one of the only cases where I will say "Read the manga instead." It gives exactly what I wanted from the game; antics with the organization members. I mean, sure, you've got the Vexen clones but you've got Demyx stealing every page he's in. He's great.
I'd agree with you...but as it turns out this is one of the only KH games where you get to use a form of Haste without pesky limitations like CoM, BBS and 3D, and if that weren't enough keep in mind: this is *movement haste* , not attack haste. ...but seriously, the game gets alot easier if you do the Challenges AND beat mission on Multiplayer Mode (even if you go solo it's still worth your time) as Sigils and Crowns net you fancy rewards from the Shop. That and, ya know, taking a few minutes to learn how to set up yer Panels. (and figure out some forms of Spells are better than others)
The reason 358 (and later re coded and dream drop) doesn’t get full ports is actually due to licensing issues from Nintendo, by the way. The remade cutscenes are actually from an early build of the port.
I used to have it, I made it to the final boss and could never beat him. I hope to be able to beat him this time. I loved the game, don't know why I sold it...
Funny thing, this was literally the first kingdom hearts game I played. I remember I was so completely and utterly confused. On the bright side it gave me a deep attachment to Roxas, especially when I finally played the main series games and 2
The ice cream line has a meaning behind it. Roxas only has ice cream with Axel and Xion. Thus the line translate to Roxas asking, "Who will be my friend?" Of course performance also plays a role, which is why it's not as impacting; it's similar to the laughing scene in FFX, good meaning, awkward performance.
Rewatching the video i wanted to point out that when Xion died, her memories were absorbed by Roxas, not Sora. But yeah. This game's gameplay is a drag.
I don't blame ant dude for not finishing the story. There may be only 92 missions but I put nearly 70 hours into it in my latest (and only) play through
I'll be honest despite this being my first Kingdom Hearts Game with literally no knowledge of the other games aside from seeing a few cutscenes of the previous 2 games I will admit I do like how the story of 358 Days is and I've played through the game fully though I will admit I advise playing the game in bursts rather than continously due to how the mission structure is.
Oh, you didn't like that first DS title? You're gonna LOVE the other one, it'll be great: an even less interesting and relevant storyline with, kind of the same gameplay. But yeah, it won't take long to cover it, there's not a lot of content in ReCoded. Personnally, I love 358/2 Days just for the story alone; it gives Axel a more interesting backstory, which is nice considering he appears in KH2 and will return as Lea in KH3. And I swear, nobody, and I mean NOBODY understood Roxas' line: To him, having ice cream means being with his friends. I'm sure you were only joking here, but nobody on the Internet got it right.
So ya know AntDude, you pronounced it right at the beginning there, "358 over 2 Days". This was a personal fav of mine, for having traditional KH combat and ideas, I personally really enjoyed my time with it on launch and since then. Also I have played multiplayer with my best friend, it... is... so... much fucking fun... I swear you'd wanna pick it up more by then especially.
I find 358/2 rather a interesting game for sure. xion as a character i liked, sure theres definintly some shit square has done to be wierd about, but i like her. and just seeing how the organization worked over time was also something to see in the background was something that id say did somewhat decant job at, but fell short alot of the time. and that heart breaking part about the icecream i actually didnt have issue with that, remember this is a game they dont like killing people sooooo they went stupid cheese with it. Now on the gameplay side of things, oh man there are things i like about and thing i hate about. the keyblade set ups you could do were intresting and cool allowing for different move sets when you equipped different gear, some had massive air combos, other strong hitting combos and other things, it was the games abillitys you would get in other games that chaged your attacks. magic and items were a joke, having a fine nite of them that couldnt be refilled through decant means meant they were usless alot of the time, and ya alot of the missions were definitely just "what" momments. so something that you didnt get to experience because you didnt finish the game is that there was a few missions you go around to each world to place a device, this doesnt mean much till the fight with xion near the end of the game, which goes through a multi stage boss fight of different forms in different worlds with those devices you placed changing each thing similier to the bosses in the world, out of all the boss fights in the game, this one is the only one that even felt good from a gameplay side from what i remember and ends rather intrestingly, its worth looking into even if your not going to play it your self.
With all due respect, but as a long time fan of Kingdom Hearts, I have to say that I do agree with 98% of this review (despite personally loving 358/2 Days. It's very easy to get upset at the really horrible search and escort missions, ESPECIALLY the first time at Agrabah and almost every time you go to Beast Castle). But the 2% where I had an issue was the point where you said "Who will I get to eat ice cream with?" being one of the worst moments of the game and the fact that you didn't finish the game, when the best parts are in the latter half of the game when you have a souped up Roxas and can go back to make early missions easier. There's tons of replay value in the second half of the game and doing the sigil missions. Trying out different comboes to make them easier, etc. Without understanding the depth of what it means to be a Nobody, that line actually was done to really drive home the fact that despite not having hearts, Roxas WAS able to feel emotion and affection for Xion, but didn't know how to put it in words. It's very much like a child who feels so happy when they eat thier first bite of ice cream. They can't explain it, but the taste is so good they want more. Or when you played your first video game with a friend and every time you see that game, even though it's not your favorite, it reminds you of that time you spent with your friend. Roxas was born 358 days before that fateful event where he lost Xion and all he knew was whatever Axel and the other members told him as well as various Disney characters, and since feeling emotion was not viable for a Nobody, he could never put in words why he felt so close to Xion and Axel. It could be his connection with Sora's heart being so strong, and the fact that both he and Xion were part of Sora. It's kind of a shame. I see that so many people either love that line or hate that line, but I really think those who hate the line really aren't getting the picture and kind of doing that "Kingdom hearts is complicated, and therefore it's not worth caring about." thing that some fans do, but if everyone only looks for the negative, they'll miss the whole point of the series being so good in the first place. Again, all due respect, but every time I see someone say something negative about Roxas' line from that game, I always feel like ironically, the line that is meant to show Roxas's humility is the very line that makes real people seem more "nobody like".
I've always thought the same thing, how do people not understand the line?
I imagined it as more of like Roxas trying to think of something, anything to keep Xion with him. With that just being the first thing that came to his head. And I feel like both of our ideas really connect, so cool.
I understand the significance of the Ice Cream thing, but I still can't help but laugh every time I hear it. It just sounds so silly out of context, if I was lying there dying and my friend said that I would probably smack them lol
Even in context it’s still too stupid to take seriously. Does it make sense? Yeah, still too silly to not laugh at.
I agree, but the manga handled that scene better "I still want the three of us to have ice cream together! Didn't we promise to go to the beach together!?!"
I actually played the DS game.
Have a save file of nearly 94 Hours with the story done + some extra stuff to take care of.
...
I regret nothing.
Damn same, I think a bit over than yours. I replayed the boss battle so many times when I was a kid. That it went to that many hours. The cutscenes hit me hard
Wish to play mine again. Had so much to do there. Good times and also sad times.
Of course you do this on the 358th day of the year XD
I wonder if that was on purpose?
Well there's about a 1 in 365 chance of it being a coincidence so I'm going to guess it was on purpose.
Nope. Remember it's a leap year. It's technically the 359th.
EDIT: CRAP, TODAY THEY FINALLY HIT THE BEACH!
yeah because the last time they said they would hit the beach was never
and 24 is a multiple of 2
I really wished they fully remade 358/2 days. If they made chain of memories as a movie, that'd be great! Well, at least there's the 358/2 HD fan remake
Dreddick123 it's dead now due to legal reasons .-.
Dreddick123 wait, what fan remake? :O
the thing is,recom was made around the time the original days was made. so it was not an option to just not include it,it would have been cheap af(even tho i dont like the remake anyways)
Everglow
I still vote Roxas as best Kingdom Hearts character.
Matthew The Autism Guy Agreed
Matthew The Autism Guy Everyone except Sora and Disney characters are good characters.
I considering him the most Tragic character in the series
+Luis Phelipe no. eraqus, kairi, and namine are shit too.
Haste is a great ability because of how slow Roxas is.
thank you!!!
Kingdom Hearts 3 kind of destroyed any weight this story had.
@@ForrestFox626 I wouldn’t necessarily say it destroyed it, since it’s still a pretty emotional self-contained story, despite its consequences being undone in the future. But these three legitimately deserve a happy ending, so I’m ultimately fine with it.
@@amirgarcia547 Deserve, yes. Thematically fitting, eh.
For all its faults, 358/2 days is still my favourite entry in the series. Really pushed the console, an emotional story, excellent multiplayer, great secret content and improvements on some previous worlds like Neverland.
I think Xion's death was the first time I cried in a video game
Yeetus Vanitas same
There are only 3 games that have made me cry. 358/2, The Last Guardian and Layton vs Phoenix Wright. Of all of them, 358/2 still impacts on me the most.
same here
Same.
It happened to me, and I was sitting right by my brother. He was pretty confused as to why I was crying over my Dsi.
The final boss was the best bit of the game, it was almost worth everything that cane before it (almost).
I really liked the 358 Days/2 manga.
Because even with context, the wording and delivery makes people crack up
Also, nobodies can't feel emotions, so this is even more impactfull
_Nahhhh..._ it's *just* f****king stupid,
either way.
🍦 🍡... 🍨
If I have to see teenagers eating BLUE ICECREAM ON A TOWER ONE MORE FUCKING TIME
also in multiplayer you can play as Xion , Riku, Sora, Donald, Goofy, and King Mickey
It's so nice to know that with the PS4 version the movie added a new cutscene that recreates the fight between Roxas and Xion.
It's been a while since I updated the Kingdom Hearts Retrospective, so as a Christmas gift to you guys, here's a new episode! To everyone else, you'll all be getting a late Christmas gift very soon~
So for the holidays, who are you all eating ice cream with?
I'll be eating Ice Cream by myself
What happened to doing the whole retrospective in just this one year
Tbh I shipped Roxas and Xion
AntDude I wanna eat ice cream with YOU antdude. your honestly my favorite youtuber
AntDude+ Hey AntDude can we make fan art and send it to you?
Kh 358/2 days is one of my favorites along with bbs
Darohna At least somebody agrees.
I like 358 more than re:coded
If you value story over gameplay then that would make sense.
Re:Coded is the most pointless game ever in terms of story. I'm not sure why it even exists. So, yeah, I also think 358 is a lot better.
22neptun that isn't much of an argument tbh when the only thing new in Days is literally forgotten by EVERYONE by the end
Me too, usually if you think the story is the most important 358 is the best of the two for you as its a really good story with alright game play and re:coded is the best if you game play is the most important thing for you for the opposite reasons.
it's debatable which one had more filler
I dont understand why people dont like the title. It's honestly one of the best titles of an object I've heard. It's a beautiful title.
it's too repetitive
I enjoyed the gameplay about how working for a living in a dead-end job is soul crushing. Really sells that verisimilitude.
...That does **NOT** MAKE A _GOOD_
GAME!!!!!
I fucking love 358/2 Days
Organization VII finally I find a person that I agree with. #Love the black sheep of the series
How *about* now.... ???
😏😏😏 💀
This is one of my favorite games from Kingdom Hearts. Probably because I actually completed it and got all the emotional impact of it.
The tragic fact of the HD movie was that it WAS planned to be a fully playable remake like Re:CoM, but there just wasn't enough time to make the deadline. Also, what do you mean you'll never have a chance to have a shot at Mission Mode? Yes, it has multiplayer capabilities, but it was also built to be single-player!
binkyboy448 I think it's fun to play as all of the organization members. Especially Axel.
binkyboy448 Not true, they never planned to remake 358/2 or ReCoded.
time wasn't an issue. they just didn't have enough resources ready. plus the disc space might've been an issue
As a huge KH fan, 358/2 days is my 2nd favourite game and im pretty pissed that this isn't playable in 1.5 on the ps3 OR ON THE PS4 OF 1.5+2.5 !
Nayem Rahman they'd need to build it from the ground up
CPRWL You mean like they did with KH1FM? Yeah, they lost the entire game so they had to recreate it.
Also they've done that kind of thing before. Re:Chain of Memories was a freaking Gameboy game.
KH1FM's story is a myth. They never recreated the game from ground up.
Re: Chain of Memories was remade because it fills a huge hole between KH1 and KH2, while this game is kind of useless. Moreover, when Re:Chain of Memories was made, it was a different time and Square-Enix had more resources, meaning it was easier for them to remake a whole game instead of just the movie.
Flipface4 Chain of Memories on the GBA is probably the worst KH game IMO, it is so fucking boring 😂😂
@@sheriffaboubakar9720 It's still very important yo the overall plot.
ACTUALLY Xion appears in KHDDD so this game KINDA is required.
Great job! now I eagerly await the rest!
And of course you missed the meaning of "Who else will I have ice cream with" line
not surprised in the slightest, is it so hard to understand that Roxas has linked Ice Cream with spending quality time with his dearest friends?
I love how the battle between Roxas and Riku mirrors the battle between Sora and Xemnas.
***** I still like Re: Chain of Memories
Honestly this is...one of the best game i've ever played, even on gameplay alone. I have no nostalgia for the game and played it this week, and it's so fun, especially the upgrade system. Making the most of every link feels amazing
Breaking Jars/2 Days sounds like an interesting game.
Who else will I have ice cream with/2 days
Ka Chow Glorious
Nice
I always thought it was 358 and a half day.
NIklas Felder that is so mathematically wrong
DETahaX I did too, being that you only get half of the last day
ItsaMe94 k
DETahaX potassium
ItsaMe94 h
that goddam "Don't get spotted" mission
The re:Chain of Memories that appears in the 1.5 collection is a remaster of the PS2 version that was released in 2008, and that’s where the GBA visuals were upgraded to PS2 format.
"We'll get to birth by sleep later"
1 1/2 years later: IS IT LATER ENOUGH?!!!
358 is probably my favorite out of them, second would be kh 2
I never understood the whole gripe with the multiple console thing back around this time pre smartphones.
I saw alot of people with them on ds you get 3 kh titles with gba backwards compatibility or psp one really good one.
I 100% completed this game back in the day but i agree with everything AD said, was pretty happy it was made into a 3h movie instead for the 2.5 Remix
I don't hate that final line on Xion's death, and this is why:
When Roxas was created he didn't know jack crap about the world, and he did what he was told...But when he made a friend, when he learned about the warmth of a friendship (get it? Warmth...cause is Ax-nevermind) what was it that he learned exactly? Friendship is hanging out with your friends after each mission on the top of that tower on twilight town, eating ice cream. That was his world...That was his favorite thing to do. He taught Xion about that type of friendship...And as stupid as it sound the phrase has a really deep meaning. Friendship, love...Sadness. That's why is so beautiful
I'm starting to be glad that I own the remixes instead. The story was for 358/2 days was fine but the gameplay seems so boreing.
Devin Henderson the gameplay is very similar to kh2. It honestly would've been better to me if they just ported it to the ps2
I have a theory about the title. 358 days BEFORE KH2?
AustenArts well, it is before kh2
The title is referring to the 358 days that Roxas spends in the Organization. The “over 2” part refers to how Roxas and Xion are experiencing these days separately, as two people. The remaining 7 days in the beginning of KH2 complete the full year (365 days) that Sora was asleep.
Ah yes, Kingdom Hearts 179 Days. The math themed Kingdom Hearts game
The ice cream line is very emotional on paper. My problem is with the delivery. Roxas sounds like an amateur voice actor over-dramatizing the line for a stage play, instead of a lost child facing the end of something so profound.
12:10 lmao. And i could never like the "who else will i have ice cream with?" line
6:28, Actually, Roxas was the only one who to see Xion's face... UNTIL... Axel accept her as a friend, then both Roxas and Axel can see her face
ToonRoxas I will not argue with that, bit recoded is the only KH game I one, so I find it fun
ToonRoxas I don't know what everyone's talking about. I had a great time with it and even went so far as to unlock Sora to play. He's not that great and doesn't have many weapon types.
Coded is basically Foreshadowing: The Game.
ToonRoxas WTF? if you're talking about the original Coded, I agree. But if you are talking about ReCoded I disagree, ReCoded was wayyy better than 358/2 in every way IMO.
Coded was more fun as a game. And Nomura smoked enough crack to make Coded quasi relevant.
"Who else will I have ice cream with?"
Axel - "What am I? Chopped liver?"
Combo felt even weaker than any other game unless you were in mid-air to be honest
this game/movie made axel and roxas my favourite characters
My first Kingdom Hearts game, just wrapping up the first game now and getting ready to play 2. I actually am more than happy to be catching up on this series, it is so freakin good.
12:08 That's a somecallmejohnny reference! You didn't think we'd notice
This will always be my favorite kingdom hearts game i’m sorry, the emotional impact this game has had on me and the amount of fun i’ve had doesn’t compare to koh 2
The plot was kinda good... I cried at the end.
The next part is finally here!
The ice cream is a symbol for Roxas and Xions friendship
12:51 - Haven't played the second DS title, you've been holding in your hands, i take it ? *insert evil laugh*
"It's not really mandatory to understanding the series." Bold pre-KH3 statement.
I always just called the game "Kingdom Hearts Days"
Because playing it left me in a DAZE!
....
HA.
I wish this was playable remade because I actually like Roxas as a character and I love his story too
I appreciate your thoughts, Antdude.
It's my favorite game of the franchise, albeit I'll admit all the negative points mentionned by the reviewer are valid.
That's understandable, but actually not true. I've been playing these games months in advance. I've already got all my footage of Coded and Birth By Sleep done!
Will your Dream Drop Distance retrospective be for the new HD version coming out?
Nearly everything I know about Kingdom Hearts, I learned from AntDude.
Strain42 Not the best source, as he makes a few mistakes.
He's great.
So, the number one KH rule was Nobody dies...
Xion is a nobody and she dies....
I see what you did there.
Tjeu van Boxtel She was created by the organization. She is not a nobody.
Xion is a replica, not a Nobody.
What an amazing game. I ordered it along with Re:Coded 2 weeks ago for 12 bucks each. 💪💪💪
Wow what me too that's pretty cool actually
Hope you enjoy recoded, it's one of my favorite games in the series behind BBS and 2
I used to have it, I made it to the final boss and could never beat him. I hope to be able to beat him this time. I loved the game, don't know why I sold it...
-lemme speak for everyone when I say fuck Hollow Bastion 1 and 30 floor Olympus Collisseum on "1 HP" mode-
D MAS
I tried to level 1 critical the game, collisseum was as far as i could reasonably make it
Funny thing, this was literally the first kingdom hearts game I played. I remember I was so completely and utterly confused. On the bright side it gave me a deep attachment to Roxas, especially when I finally played the main series games and 2
The ice cream line has a meaning behind it. Roxas only has ice cream with Axel and Xion. Thus the line translate to Roxas asking, "Who will be my friend?"
Of course performance also plays a role, which is why it's not as impacting; it's similar to the laughing scene in FFX, good meaning, awkward performance.
I couldn't put this game down when I played it. I had more fun with it than I did chain of memories for sure.
Rewatching the video i wanted to point out that when Xion died, her memories were absorbed by Roxas, not Sora. But yeah. This game's gameplay is a drag.
You should make a top 358 days in the game.
When I got this game i used to call it 358 and a half days. Clearly representing the 358 days that you "play" through.
This was my first kingdom hearts game I got when I was a kid. I definitely did not know what was going on.
358/2 is the blood pressure of the people still trying to understand this franchise
I want to print this out and put it on a wall.
In other news, the KH 358/2 Days manga is a pretty good read. Xion's to die for in that because she's just so darn adorable.
I don't blame ant dude for not finishing the story. There may be only 92 missions but I put nearly 70 hours into it in my latest (and only) play through
"A release date for 2017"
Oh you poor, naive child...
It's also important to note that square imported RECOM, not COM. Recom was on the ps2
I liked 358/2 days I even got dual welding roxas
It's not an bad thing you disagree with something.
Even with context the line delivery and wording is hilariously bad.
