The Hobbit trilogy is a masterpiece now compared to The Rings of Power.

I have forgiven Peter Jackson for the smaller stuff he changed in LOTR, but still not for making Gimli a comic relief. But I did rewatch the movies recently and I can absolutely see why people love them. Even having my reservations I now finally love them too :)

Good! I think a lot of people were introduced to the books via the movies, so we probably have fewer grievances than people who started with the book. I do wish they'd kept in the scouring of the shire to though

I jave read and loved the LOTR novels long before Peter Jackson's movies. But I had no problems to accept and love the movies, although there are lots of things which could have been done better. However I have never understood why so many viewers disliked movie Gimli. Yes, he wasn't a comic relief character in Tolkien's novels. But he also wasn't really interesting IMO. Neither was Legolas. Peter Jackson managed to give each member of the fellowship a unique profile, and I liked that. Yes, Peter Jackson overdid Gimli"s comic relief function a bit. But I didn't really mind that.

Agree on all points. Wouldn't bother with Game of Thrones. It seems good, but everything that went before was flushed down the toilet in the last few episodes.

I love Tolkien's Hobbit, and there were times when I even liked to re-read this little novel more often than the LOTR novels, because "The Hobbit" has a lot of sparkling humour, which is not present as much in the LOTR novels. And I like Bilbo much better than Frodo!
I was also not completely happy with Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies, but I think it unfair to list them as failures. The first movie was mostly very good IMO, although Radagast's inclusion may not have been necessary, and the cgi-augmented action scenes went on for far too long! But it's possible to strip away all the unnecessary stuff from these movies until you have one 4-hour or two 2-hour movies - and this remaining material is a wonderful adaptation of Tolkien's Hobbit. There are even a few aspects which are better than the source material. Thorin's character is much more interesting and likable than Tolkien's Thorin, and while it could've been done better, it was a good idea to enlarge Bard's role. And while many viewers complained that they couldn't distinguish one dwarf from another, they have much more fleshed out characters than Tolkien's original thirteen dwarves. "The Hobbit" was Tolkien's first novel, and he made a few beginner's mistakes, and it shows that the little book grew out of tales he told his children. Tolkien himself revised the Hobbit a bit when the the first LOTR novel was published, and he was never completely happy that "The Hobbit" was so different from his LOTR trilogy. Peter Jackson tried to make movies which were similar to his LOTR movies but which preserved also the wimsical mood of Tolkien's little book for children. He succeeded only partly, but what we got is still very good! I am not at all convinced that Guillermo del Toro would have made a better adaptation, and his originally planned two movies might've felt very different from Peter Jackson's LOTR trilogy.

I absolutely agree with you about how bad the adaptation of Percy Jackson series. Well, honestly, I love with Rick Riordan's work sooo much. Got pretty excited when I saw the trailer of the first Percy Jackson movie. However, disappointed so much when I saw the whole movie :(((( but I still love percy jackson (book version of course)!
By the way, you made a good content! Keep up the good work, brother!

The TV Show is faithful to the theme of the book. People who say it's as unfaithful to the book as the movie, forget the movie made the gods paragons when the books have the gods be jerks, deadbeat parents, and the lesser of 2 evils, when the other option is elder gods who view humans as snacks and would send humanity back to the Stone Age.
Movie Zeus forbid the gods from being with thier kids.
Book gods are absent through their own freewill.

Really glad that you have Inkheart an honourable mention as a horrible adaptation - my childhood best friend and I were megafans of the Inkheart trilogy and I remember how excited we were to see the movie. I have a very vivid memory of going to our local theater to watch it together when we were around 11 or 12, and leaving feeling so angry and disappointed at what they did to the story and the characters that we loved

BTW But the worst thing about this Movie is Zar'roc, I is supposed to have a red Blade and red Gem...
But the Gem on this Prop is blue, like on his second Sword.

Great video!🤩 I especially agree with the Lord of the Rings (my favorite movies of all time) and Percy Jackson. I watched the movie first and didn't like it at all. The plot made no sense, the romance and friendships felt wrong. But a friend gave me the first book for Christmas and it has become one of my favorite book series! I also love Eragon but haven't seen the movies yet. I probably won't do it now...😅

For Divergent and Maze Runner, i feel like for the first ones they did really good. But in both cases, the sequel movies were NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING LIKE THE BOOKS. On the other hand, divergent just didnt have great sequel books to begin with :/

    • @caleb.a.robinson
      @caleb.a.robinson  5 років тому +3

I included Divergent because they did well with the source material they had. The books got gradually worse, and as a result, the movies did too. As for maze runner, I honestly thought they did pretty good. They hit the big points, and they were fun movies. The main thing is that they were at least good movies if you've never read the books

    • @ari7333

@@caleb.a.robinson I haven't read the books on any of the two, Divergent started descent, but it felt like a cheap copy of the Hunger Games. the sequals were hard to watch. But The Maze Runner movies were actually quite good. I had some problems with the last movie, but they were good movies in a general sense.

Best adaption: Sin City. Shot just like the comic with wonderful casting choices. They did everything they could to capture Millers vision on-screen. And a great ost.
Worst adaption: Dark Tower. Turned a 7 book series which should have been on the level of an R-rated LOTR or Harry Potter epic into a 90 minute PG kids movie with confusing casting. Didn't even mention most of the best parts of the book.(not the worst movie, but definitely the worst adaption).

I think maybe I’m a too intense Harry Potter fan to also be a big fan of the movies. I will admit there are some brilliant moments throughout the film series. But there are too many changes that make zero sense, poor acting/ directing decisions, & characters behaving in ways that go against their book counterparts, that just drive me nuts. I suppose it’s a love / hate relationship :)
