Edge of Tomorrow is so underrated, I'm surprised when people talk about Tom Cruise, they don't mentioned that much about Edge of Tomorrow. That's easily one of his best performance and he's surprisingly very funny in the movie
Dune, I haven’t watched. Avatar and Interstellar should be in top 5. Well, maybe Avatar somewhere 6-10. Avatar is the #1 when it came to profoundness right after getting out of movie theater. But Avatar hasn’t aged beautifully like Interstellar has. Possible goat.
Wow this video was a real trip down memory lane. District 9, Arrival, Edge of Tomorrow, Inception, some of my favourite movies of all time. Arrival especially was so good. We really have had a lot of top notch sci-fi over the years.

In terms of realism, The Martian is hands down the best movie. Technically still sci-fi because they use technology that doesn't exist and do things beyond our modern capabilities, but it's closer to our reality than some people realize. I think the only reason it got an "honorable mention" and not a top spot, is because of the fact it's grounded in our reality and not that crazy, futuristic sci-fi.
It's a good movie but as you said it's much closer to reality than a proper science fiction movie and it did aim to show a space survival situation as realistically as possible. It's more like the space version of Cast Away. Perhaps if they'd introduced some kind of alien element in the movie, like some kind of ancient Alien artifact that he discovers on Mars, but that would have then altered the whole undertone of the movie and taken it away from it's "mundane reality" foundation.
I don't even count The Martian as real science fiction, just a problem solving drama that happens to be set on Mars. Not something you could watch twice.
Yeah, I'd have swapped Inception for Interstellar and squeezed Dune in there too! Inception is a masterpiece, but far less "sci-fi" than interstellar, imo.

It's my favorite film of all time. Love seeing someone else give it recognition. The music was fantastic especially in the lighthouse scene. It's a visual masterpiece and it's one of the most haunting films I've ever seen!
It's amazing how Eternal Sunshine is considered Sci-Fi, because it's actually a really lovely romance film. I remember watching it after breaking up with my ex and I really wished for that technology to exists.
What I love about that movie is That is the only movie that showed us that some people respect & want to preserve the memories, no matter how bad your relationship was, some moments were true & yeah I too want to forget my ex😂 but some memories with her, is worth every struggle!
Favorite Sci-Fi movie? Hard to pick just one. Planet of the Apes (1968), The Illustrated Man, The Andromeda Strain, Silent Running, Rollerball, Logan's Run, Soylent Green, Alien, A Clockwork Orange, and Phenomenon. If I had to pick just one, then let's go with Logan's Run. It was the last of the big sci-fi movies with a shiny, happy aesthetic. Honorable mentions, especially for those who haven't seen these: Somewhere in Time, Village of the Damned, The Invisible Man (1933), Island of Terror, The Gamma People, Brave New World (1980), and Robinson Crusoe on Mars. All good wishes, good people.
Loved the list!! With each of the top 10 I was saying "Yup. That's one of my favorites." I know it just came out, but I would've at least given Dune an honorable mention. I think that ones gonna become a classic when it's all said and done
"The Martian" should have been on this list in the top 10, not an Honorable Mention. Of course, I say that because I loved it, but it was still a much better sci-fi movie than you gave it credit for.
I love that movie, and it's technically sci-fi, but also leans far more to survival and comedy drama. It doesn't focus on the future setting and techs.
Oblivion, Alita, Dune, Tenet, Avatar, Hunger Games, John Carter, Morgan, Lucy, Transcendence, The Space between us, Lockout, The island, Cloud Atlas: All deserve at least an Honourable mention. 'The martian' was one of the greats! We have also been spoiled by great TV series... perhaps for another piece?
I'm not surprised of Mad Max: Fury Road being in number 2. It's actually the Best Action film of the 21st Century so far and one of the greatest film ever made.
Ex Machina is my favorite movie. Alicia Vikander is such an underrated actress. The way she moves in this movie really makes you think she is a robot/ A.I.
When you really crave a good sci fi movie but can only find a list of movies you already saw and others that weren't even listed. I guess I need to rewatch ones that I haven't seen in a while.
What do you think are the 21st Century's best SciFi films so far? This question applies to movies released after 1999. Here is my list: 10. "Avatar" (2009) 9. "Blade Runner: 2049" (2017) 8. "Alien: Covenant" (2017) 7. "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (2017) 6. "TRON: Legacy" (2010) 5. "Man of Steel" (2013) 4. "Cloud Atlas" (2012) 3. "The Fountain" (2006) 2. "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" (2005) 1. "Dune" (2021) I look forward to seeing and "Avatar: The Way of Water" (2022) and "Dune: Part Two" (2023).
21st Century top 10 films for me (in no order): Another Earth Interstellar Annihilation Arrival Children of Men Bladerunner 2049 Oblivion Cloud Atlas Alien: Covenant and I'll break the rules to include the best TV series ever, Battlestar Gallactica [disclaimer: I have yet to see Dune]
I know it would never get mentioned in a list like this because a. It's Japanese and b. Its a Godzilla movie but it's a huge shame Shin Godzilla will never be mentioned in the same breath as most these films. It's looks amazing for a 20 million dollar Japanese film, has some really quirky and inventive cinematography, and is a scathing satire of government bureaucracy. To top it off it even won 7 awards at the Japanese equivalent of the Academy Awards, including Best Director and Best Picture.
I'm surprised Avatar wasn't even mentioned - it was kind of a BFD for a couple years and changed the industry (and the price of going to the movies) It also helped the sell of BluRay discs when they first came out similar to DVD's and the Matrix in 1999. But the movie now seems almost forgotten unless the Avatar 2/3 sequels can rekindle that magic. Interstellar should also be the only pick for Christopher Nolan - I've never seen any of his movies as many times as that one - Repeatability!!
Great list! I would tweak the order and probably have Martian on it and one of the others as an honorable mention, but solid work. (I would have Edge of Tomorrow a lot lower 10-13ish range)

Some of my fav.....
the tomorrow war
Dune (2021)
Maze runner trilogy
How is not Interstellar in here? Is amazing and a lot better than most of the films in this list
I am over the Moon (Pun genuinly unintended) that Moon was on here. About time it got the recognition it deserves
"Moon" succeeded where "Oblivion" failed story-wise...
Many sci fi are about relationships and romance, but they are still sci fi movies.
Watching it after a breakup really screws with your head
A romance sci-fi still considered as 'sci-fi'
hnmm.. but horror sci fi like a quiet place and the invisible man aren't considered sci fi....?
My top 5
Inception
Ex Machina
Interstellar
Martian
Arrival
‘District 9’ was an impressive science fiction-drama film.
The question is, when will they make a possible sequel?
District 10 is already being maked
District 11 is in planning
Never! They shouldn’t. They will kill it.
He is still making flowers 😢
The fact interstellar isn't on here is a crime
I guess they didn't quite understand it well to give it a spot...
Edge of Tomorrow should be WAY higher. 20 is a complete undervalue and should be maybe Top 10.
What a fantastic list. Bravo!
No interstellar, Avatar, Dune. Y’all tripping. Ain’t no way this is a real list.
Avatar sucked
Interstellar's so overrated
Dune is not even top 50. most boring 2 movies of all time
@@Nohono5553 oooh good hot take. Do provocative. Tell me more.
*Mad Max: Fury Road* is my favorite movie in the *Mad Max* franchise!
I dont what you guys been smoking but Fifth Element is one of the best sci-fi movies of all time! ForceAwakens lol
Loved the list!! With each of the top 10 I was saying "Yup. That's one of my favorites." I know it just came out, but I would've at least given Dune an honorable mention. I think that ones gonna become a classic when it's all said and done
Good list, Mojo. Good list. Can't wait for a part two.
i watched Sunshine in the cinema and i will never forget the 'Mercury' scene. Beautiful
#9 - District 9 (2009)
I see what you did there 😉
"The Martian" should have been on this list in the top 10, not an Honorable Mention. Of course, I say that because I loved it, but it was still a much better sci-fi movie than you gave it credit for.
I agree. It definitely deserved to be on this list. 👍👍
I love that movie, and it's technically sci-fi, but also leans far more to survival and comedy drama. It doesn't focus on the future setting and techs.
and a rare role for Sean Bean. He doesn't die
Hundred percent agree 👍 f
@@ThePrinceofHisOwnKingdom But the movie has so much actual science in it that I'm still counting it as very much sci-fi.
Yes to Oblivion and Cloud Atlas!
Maze Runner,Transformers,Matrix 😂
Oblivion is superb. Watch it again if you haven't seen it since 2013. You'll thank me later.
good list. Which tv show series do you like?
Children of men is a cinematic achievement..3 of the best longtakes in cinema history
Greay Video!!!
I find the lack of Dune disturbing
Oh! Thanks for my watch again, repeat list 😁
I'm not surprised of Mad Max: Fury Road being in number 2. It's actually the Best Action film of the 21st Century so far and one of the greatest film ever made.
wouldn’t say its “the best action film” but it is up there.
@@massimo2x it is absolutely the best action movie of this century
John Wick Chapter 2
@@CraigSteelyard John wick is not science fiction movie
This list is out of this world!
Ex Machina is my favorite movie. Alicia Vikander is such an underrated actress. The way she moves in this movie really makes you think she is a robot/ A.I.
The ending sucks though,
@@NightLight9595 sucks in a good way. It’s an ending u don’t forget in my opinion
Trash movie.
Thank you for including Primer.
Interstellar isn't even mentioned. Personally, I think it should be at the top of this list.
Loooooove sci-fi. Thanks for this list.
Edge of Tomorrow is the best roguelike videogame movie ever made.
Great list. Blade Runner 2049 is a masterpiece.
I only watch it three times this year.
blade runner was fantastic! and annihilation as well
Avatar and interstellar should be on the list
Such a killer list of movies! Makes me think of CronoRevolution, which has that same epic dystopian feel but in book form! 🎬🚀
5. Ex Machina
4. Dune
3. Oblivion
2. Mad Max: Fury Road
1. Inception
When you really crave a good sci fi movie but can only find a list of movies you already saw and others that weren't even listed. I guess I need to rewatch ones that I haven't seen in a while.
What do you think are the 21st Century's best SciFi films so far? This question applies to movies released after 1999. Here is my list:
10. "Avatar" (2009)
9. "Blade Runner: 2049" (2017)
8. "Alien: Covenant" (2017)
7. "Star Wars: The Last Jedi" (2017)
6. "TRON: Legacy" (2010)
5. "Man of Steel" (2013)
4. "Cloud Atlas" (2012)
3. "The Fountain" (2006)
2. "Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith" (2005)
1. "Dune" (2021)
I look forward to seeing and "Avatar: The Way of Water" (2022) and "Dune: Part Two" (2023).
21st Century top 10 films for me (in no order):
Another Earth
Interstellar
Annihilation
Arrival
Children of Men
Bladerunner 2049
Oblivion
Cloud Atlas
Alien: Covenant
and I'll break the rules to include the best TV series ever, Battlestar Gallactica
[disclaimer: I have yet to see Dune]
"Dune" (2021) is one of my favorite films Greg. "Dune" (1965) is also one of my favorite books. They are equally remarkable in my opinion.
Just watched upgrade (2018). Definitely deserves a spot on this list
No. 9: District 9 (2009)
Well Played Watchmojo Well Played😎😎
Pretty damn good list. Love to see the emphasis on emotion & storytelling.
Its the first time I have ever seen Children of Men on a list, its such a underrated film, it deserves much more.
Great list! Love the number one for sure!
Cool and great video dude and have a good day everybody :]
I was about to be all up in arms when I didn't see Children of Men on the list but I was pleasantly surprised. That movie was EPIC
I wonder if Clive Owen would have been a good James Bond.
EDGE OF TOMORROW SHOULD BE HIGHER!
If you guys have watched INTERSTELLAR, there's no going back. It's gonna be your all-time favourite sci-fi movie. It's irreplaceable.
You lost me at The Force Awakens.
No mention of Dune?
You reference Interstellar, but fail to even give it an honorable mention?
This list is good, but those two omissions are GLARING.
Edge of tomorrow was better than I expected.
Great list! I would tweak the order and probably have Martian on it and one of the others as an honorable mention, but solid work. (I would have Edge of Tomorrow a lot lower 10-13ish range)
I thought Interstellar would have gotten the #1. But I do very much agree with the chosen #1
