HolisticVegan I'm not an athlete, but I have always tried to be as healthy as possible: eat right, exercise, drink a lot of water, etc. I used to work out 4-5 times a week (30-60 min on treadmill & only about 15 min of light weights 1-2 times a week. I ate what I thought was healthy: chicken, fish, eggs, yogurt. Yet, my stomach was never flat, and I was always struggling w/10 lbs. I started incorporating raw foods into my diet and EVERYTHING changed! I dropped 14 lbs, I started looking younger (3 people at a friends wedding asked if I had botox, haha!), I felt great, I wasn't as sore after work outs, and my stomach got super flat - AND I actually have muscle in places I never did: my back & stomach. It also helps my chronic pain from a spinal injury 8 years ago. The percentage is about: 65% raw 35% cooked - it will change lives if people actually did it.

As a female, I never had SO much muscle definition until I started eating plant based. My brother noticed 1st - he said “are you lifting a lot”? I said “only light free weights maybe 3-4 times a month” - the look on his face was priceless! He hasn’t eaten meat in 2019 ❤️

I agree, I started eating plant based about 3 weeks ago, in conjunction with weight training, and my muscle retention and definition, plus fat loss is something I haven't seen in 15 years of traditional dieting and exercise. I don't fully understand why, but I'm not complaining :)

Fat covers up most muscle. A big part is simply uncovering the muscle that already exists but of course with strength training it can get even better. People with lower body fat percentages, as people on healthy whole plant food diets have, tend to be viewed as being stronger and having more muscle than others.

RAW FOOD PHILOSOPHY also to the different people. Some people will come to veganism for health, others for ethical reasons, others for environmental reasons, the important thing is that they are here. I came to this woe for health, but through my research, found out that there's no difference between organic, grass fed or industrial scale meat production. I learned about the damage to the environment. And I would say I am staying for all these reasons. I was looked down at for not being vegan for the right reason. Sometimes the vegan police are the ones who give veganism a bad reputation . Once you learn something you cannot unlearn it. That's what happened to me

I love you people! keep it up.. let's turn our world vegan.
In office when I prepare my meal, almost always I hear the same thing... "Aaaw, you put sooo much effort and time for preparing and eating your meals and you know what: that just approve my opinion about veganism, it is so complicated and extrem" ...and I go like, WHAT o.O !? So, reflect! We spend, how much, 8 to10+ hours a day for work... and almost nobody has a good opinion on work and how much time we put in, we also know that working to much and living a stressfull life makes us sick, but we continue doing it and the society is okay with that. But not enough, you're considered a hero if you make a great career while putting back your needs and them of your family as back as possible, some quality time on WE must be enough!
But taking time to prepare and eating your meal - which beside, everybody say aawww, i love to eat... o.O - is being considered a waste of time! ...really!? Also, we love to outsource thing and tasks to do, even things we should do by our own. So we prefer somebody cutting living beings into slices and stuff the corpse parts with salt, sugar, sauce and wait we need to get fat on that BS otherwise it won't taste like chicken, because everything has to taste like chicken... in order to feed our body with things which aren't even supposed for us as nutrition and in cause of that making us sick. Why? Just to feed our hunger as fast as possible and to spare some time, for what.. for family, for exibitions and excercising!? Nope, for quality time spent in office sitting at a desk so we can work on our career. That is what I consider extrem!!!
But what is it that makes our senses ill and blind...!? People are serious about their thought that bacon or sausage, salami and ham etc. is NOT MEAT!!! telling me that they only eat one or two times a week meat, while they're biting in a slice of bred with butter, ham and cheese on it... happend only a couple days ago... and I've pointed on what he was holding in his hands asking him, are you serious that this is the only meat you're going to eat the whole week? Guess what he answered. Oohh, this is sausage and chese so, not meat... and there i go, WHAT!?... I really don't know how to call that sort of blindness, Melany Joy named the madness about meat and diary carnism, but how to call and HOW TO DEAL with this sort of blindness and ignorance!?

Thanks so much for sharing this.....a great interview
As many know, I like to share this personal story....
I am from TEXAS....land of MEAT and DAIRY....and yes, for 50 years I was a die hard everyday meat and dairy consumer.
25 years ago I was hit by a car riding my bike and it damage (broke) to my pelvic bone and clavicle and moved my lower spine over a half inch. I lived with it and the extreme daily pain for 25 years. Being an ex army ranger i was a tough guy and i suffered the pain but over time i got weaker...much much weaker and i gained weight, became a drug addict to pain killers, heroine, meth and cocaine. Then one day I went to the doctor for the men over 50 full physical and got some terrible news. Along with my pain, obesity and drug addiction i was also type 2 diabetic with DANGEROUSLY high blood pressure.
Promptly my doctor put me on more meds and said I needed to make an immediate life style change or i was going to die. She said I had done irreversible damage to my once powerful body.
For almost 30 years I was was lost down the dark path of drug addiction. Ive lived in the woods for 11 years (close to a meth cook)and I lived outside reality. I used meth to get up and herion to get down. I was far less than the human being I was supposed to be. I got clean every day and every night I got dirty. I lied cheated and stole (from friends) just to get my fix. I had no desire...no motivation save to score that fix...
Deep down in this darkness I met my sons mother. We found a love that would last a life time and from that love came a light (our son) that would lead us back....
When I was 50 i had my first child (AN AWESOME BEAUTIFUL BOY) and I wasn't going to live long enough to see him grow into a man.
About two days after I saw a video called "drug Addiction" and I saw myself (his story was so close to my own I cried) and said IT IS TIME TO CHANGE.
For the next three weeks I did some intense study and got turned onto a movie called GAME CHANGERS and FORKS OVER KNIVES and by channels called PBN (plain based new) and LiveKindly and then began the WHOLE FOOD PLANT BASED DIET.
    AND CHANGE I DID...IMMEDIATELY.
In just under four months time i lost 30lbs, I began feeling healthier and stronger. I quit doing all the harmful drugs and started working out. My next doctor visit was nothing short of SHOCKING to my doctor and myself.
My diagnosis was amazing....My blood pressure was back to normal and i was no longer diabetic. I dropped 40lbs of weight and gained 10lbs of solid muscle mass.
Now I work out 5 times a week with the dream of being a 60 year old competitor with a story to tell. Im 53 now and in my book thats one hell of a accomplishment.
I have since made it my purpose in life to share this story with everyone I can in hopes of inspiring change not just in those who need it but in everyone.
If i can do this, YOU CAN TOO.
I will never go back to my bad lifestyle and I WILL watch my son grow up.
In a world where you can be anything...
    Why not be Kind.
    ONE WORLD=ONE LOVE
    My personal update....
I'm now down to 173lbs and switching directions. I'm eating to gain. I started body building and focusing my diet to compete in a men's fitness at 60. that gives me 7 years to train. All this on a plant strong diet. So far ive been doing this alone. Like a cross eyed fool in the dark making my best guess all the way....but learning every day thanks to videos like this and every day knowing im getting better at this. Id love to have the advice of pros and all (and i am always open to good advice to get me closer to my goals) but all I have is me (right now) to guess my way through and so far......its been AWESOME.... I mean i feel great and so inspired to keep doing what i do while inspiring others i know. The number one person I want to inspire is my son but my biggest message is all these things ive done so far...alone...most of you can do and even MORE. I am in no way UNIQUE....

Feldenkrais with Alfons the important thing here is that there is a change at all and that more and more athletes are going plant based. It's a huge improvement and if they continue showing what is possible for them the message will spread eventually. I know that especially the institutions here are slow to adapt to changes but the focus lies on more and more people proving the old beliefs wrong.

I made the switch to a vegan diet about 18 month ago and I have to say that my performance has truly never been better, I am hitting numbers I really never thought I would and I am lighter which as a cyclist is a great benefit. I just want to add that as an athlete the biggest issue is eating enough food rather than overeating which is great. Oh, One more thing worth mentioning is that I just turned 45 and am setting personal bests, improving faster than I have in the past 9 years so I have no intent on stopping

It's like Gary Francione says, you wouldn't say it's better if someone raped and murdered only once a week rather than five times a week. The point is it's immoral and therefore should be condemned at any level. Veganism is not as much about Harm reduction as it is about animals mattering morally and therefore should have the right to not be property. I run out of patience when I know the money that is taken from me through a form of theft called taxation is helping subsidize the animal agriculture industry. Enough is enough. Thanks for making the documentary (I can't wait to watch it) and being vegan.

“Try to make a project that inspires people. You know a lot of the time, and I’m guilty of this, in the vegan world, we’re so passionate [that vegans] can come off as dogmatic and pushy and the end-all be-all, I wanted to make a project I could get through to [anyone]”
Paraphrased slightly, but this quote is so relevant! So true

I’ve heard some ethical vegans say you can’t do this for health alone or you will not stay vegan. I don’t agree, especially for seniors like me. I went plant based looking for a healthy diet to help me lose weight and lower my cholesterol. Luckily, I happened onto s the right people on UA-cam. Chef AJ, Dr. McDougall and many more sensible experts. Through my research, I learned about the horrors of factory farming and the environmental impact. Old people like me don’t respond well to pressure and radical tactics in fact they will run. I went whole food plant based over two and half years ago and won’t go back. I’m in great shape now and feel better about my carbon footprint. I think by example and not being too pushy a few of my friends are looking into it. Even my husband says he wants to start eating meatless burgers, yay!

20:30 I think we need both. I, also, went cold-turkey without any "real research". I floundered, and still am, to some degree, ~9 weeks later, nevertheless, I crossed that first major gap. Now that I'm here, I am more comfortable with smaller steps. I also try to "be measured" in how I advocate to others. Little humor, little poke, big smile, and lots of energy. And mango threads hanging from my teeth while I talk.

The first sensible Vegan video I've ever watched. I'll never eat less meat, I'm a paleo guy and want my animal protein, however I do have many vegan friends and I've always told them that their best hopes of getting people to eat less meat or convert people all together is to tell them about the benefits, how you feel great, how you lost weight, how your blood chemistry has improved, etc, that's how you get us meat eaters to listen. When someone calls me a murderer and tells me I'm destroying the planet I simply see them as activist lunatics like the door-to-door evangelists that come to my house and tell me I need to follow their god or spend eternity in a fiery hell. I'm not moved by activist movies about animals or environmental movies, I do my own research and I listen to all sides and make the best choices I can for me and my family.

Saying Vegan and Vegetarian in the same sentence as if they are equal is something we should become more conscious of and say just Vegan. Vegetarians are equal to Animal flesh eaters, not Vegans.

It seems that vegans be categorised as vegetarians as so called "strict vegetarians" (the other forms of vegetarianism are ovo and lacto) so ybk lamar isn't that far off. I read somewhere that vegans are more ethically driven and on the other hand strict vegetarians are motivated by health and environmental reasons. But I'm not sure about the last part... ^^

      Joshua Metzner
The term Vegan was created in the 1940's in order to be distinguished from Vegetarian. Vegetarian diets contribute to Rape, Kidnapping, Theft, Castration, Suffocation, Mutilation, Torture, and, Murder just as Omnivore diets do. If I were a Vegetarian and knew that, I too would want to be equated with Vegans because it would ease my conscience. If I were a Vegetarian and did not know, then I would not know. To say strict Vegetarian is just as silly as saying Lacto-Vegetarian or Ovo-Vegetarian, or Lacto-Ovo Vegetarian, etc. These words were created to manipulate the masses and to further dilute the word Vegan. Just like Paleo, Keto, Blood Type, blah, blah, blah. Not sure how people manage to keep up. All of it is preposterous.

    • @reaperkollyns6495
      @reaperkollyns6495 6 років тому

FWRD seven I don't see how a term like ovo-vegetarian can dilute the word vegan. They are both different descriptive words for different things being described. I feel that the more words we have the more precise language can be which helps communication not dilutes it.

I know this is probably a stupid question, but how much protein does one need if starting to workout with weights and new at wfpb. I know we can get our protein from food, but is their something we have to eat everyday to get the right amount of calories. I have a coach (not wfpb) keeps saying I need to eat 1400 calories (I can rarely eat that much because I am eating whole foods) and she says I need to eat 105g of protein a day to lose fat and build muscle)

Most atheletes would be very open to change their diet to vegan, if it would help them win Ironman Hawaii/ NBA MVP/Climbing World Cup or what not. But by now, it does not. So most athletes don't change their diet to vegan and you guys have to continue to find those 10 athletes who won anything of significance on a vegan diet, and do your very best to make it look like those 10 victories amongst tens of thousands of competitions won by non-vegans prove the superiority of a vegan diet.
This is also an ethical choice on the turf of honesty.
Just saying, since political correctness-whiteknight talks so much about ethical choices, in order to quell disagreement.

At the core of every living being, (that includes plants) is energy. Plants respond to touch, love and sound. There is still termination of life involved with eating a plant based diet. Plants are raised to produce edible substance and some plantings are terminated after each growing season to make way for the next. So if it is an "energy" choice, then you are starting at the same line. I am not on one side or the other. I am just saying that ALL facts need to be considered. Eat what you choose. God Bless!
