Just wanna note that my EXTREMELY lesbian sister dated tons of guys before realizing her sexuality. Bean lives in a time where homosexuality isn’t even a word so of course her past relationships were all gonna be male even if she likes girls, too.
I've always kinda seen her as Bisexaul. I'd love to see her have see mora again or met another gal.

For all its issues, I still adore Disenchantment as a series. It's coherent with a plot, which is nice, compared to the Simpsons or Family Guy which are self-contained plots that go nowhere.
Comparing it to Futurama is inevitable, if unfair and disingenuous, but eh, what can you do. I like the characters and the story is really starting to intrigue.
I agree! It's some mild fun with a bit of plot. Not the greatest, but it's okay enough for me to like it and watch everything hahahah
Bean wasn’t likeable in the episode where she hated her brother but you can see why but I wouldn’t exactly call it HIS fault, it’s her parents’ fault or nobody’s fault and wanting him dead is kinda malicious and what she said when she thought he was dead “This is not how I wanted you to die!” Or “I didn’t want you to die this way!” was sad but hilarious but I think “Then how did you want him to die!?”)
Yeah. She had misplaced hatred for her brother for a long time. Not long after her mom was petrified in stone her half-brother was born which came the enforcement of what was expected of her for the rest of her life and her brother who clearly had more liberties in what he wants and is expected to rule Dreamland, their Homeland while she is sent away to be ordered what to do by her husband and making children.
@@violetliskey675 Oh now I really see why, now I have mixed feelings on her hatred for him, yes she is too harsh, but at the same time while her brother gets to rule over Dreamland and has more liberties in what he wants, she has to be a baby-maker for her husband, while her brother isn’t a bad person and is just a kid/teen who wishes his sister didn’t hate him, but at the same time he did kinda do a little off the rails I don’t remember so can’t help but feel mixed on her hatred.
@@skylarthompson299 He also had a rather secured position towards being king while his sister was later pushed or ventured other careers. Many of which she did not do well and her ambassador position was botched after Luci convinced her to get drunk. She is showing to be a good leader.

(I know that Bean and Elfo find out they need Luci but it doesn’t excuse that Luci is a bad friend, which makes sense because he’s literally a demon from Hell I guess.)

Something that occurred to me while i was watching the video. Bean effects the character development of some of the characters in a way that makes them more heroic in similar fashion to what we’d see from leaders in other shows. She helps Elfo become a bit less selfish and a lot braver by being someone he admires. Luci she helps be a better person to the point he’s willing to sacrifice himself for Bean and she accomplishes this by just being a good friend while creating a nontoxic environment. Good video definitely got me thinking
I like your interpretation of how they did the seasons and Bean's emotional journey and now I'm actually looking forwards to re-watching it again. (I'm really kind of hoping Mora comes back, she was good for bean)
We’re all hoping she comes back she has potential as a character and this would be another lgbtq couple in media start a petition man see what happens.

Honestly I loved how her relationship with Mora was shown so naturally. A lot of time in media being attracted to the same sex is treated as a blown up character trait. In this show it is just two relatable characters (regardless of gender) finding romance with eachother.
I think the show has found it’s groove, and will grow as the show goes on. The best aspect about it is that each location isn’t just a one off, locations and characters get referenced again and again with new meaning attached.
Bean has a lot of traits from the "In-active protagonist". Trying to handle life instead of actively looking for adventure. I'm really glad you gave this series another look because I didn't notice any of this on first or second viewing. The inactive protagonist I think is hard to appreciate, possibly because most of our media is structured towards "The hero" or "the chosen one".
This reminds me of 'reader-response theory' which is how the audience reacts to a piece of art. I think the kinds of people that can appreciate this kind of writing are a smaller group than the ones who can't. But with more shows like this, including Bee and Puppycat, and even movies like The Last Jedi, that group might grow and Disenchantment won't be regarded with so much derision by critics.
I have my fingers crossed part 4 will have a balance of smashing action (and what the heck is that magic in dreamland everybody wants?) and the end of Bee's coming of age tale.

Elfo being death prone? Yes. Lucy being death prone? No, Lucy is a death prone instigator.
Part 3 was definitely the best one thus far- best story, most growth, no place to backpaddle from, and some shockingly pretty animation (seriously, is it just me or did the backgrounds get way prettier?)

Though I admit a lot of the dad jokes and puns are simply something I enjoy more than most lol
I love Bean, which is strange because I almost never love or even like female main characters because they're all too often written poorly. But Bean is very fleshed out, it feels like her age, gender, abilities, personality, and personal traumas and demons (not talking about Luci) are all taken into consideration when writing her dialogue and decisions. She has a lot of depth and has varying measures of good and bad in her.

If it took you multiple watches to realize the while point is Bean's coming of age story, I'm curious what you originally thought it was supposed to be?
The show got off to a slow start but it has improved over time and has me really invested into what’s going to happen next. I can understand that there’ll be those who can’t get on board, but I think we can all agree that Disenchantment is better than the last 20 seasons of The Simpsons.
16:55-16:56 I actually disagree. Diving into work can help time to heal some open wounds up to then be able to process it properly without breaking down whenever you think about it. Of course it depends on how bad the break up was but if it was intense, you might need some work/a sense of purpose to pull you out of the dump first.

Just got around to watching season 3, and all I can say is "WOW." I'm super impressed with how the writers manage to make the show so chaotic and yet tie it all up in, I guess it would be the last 3 episodes of each season as well as they do. I think this might be the best finale they've had so far; really interesting writing style and I can't wait for more.
That said, from the middle of season 1 I knew this was going to be one of those shows that takes a while to get good and the season splits don't really help it build momentum like it should be. It's finally picking up and I think this might be a new Matt Groening classic.

Elfo is clearly the best. He’s a little elf in a human’s world trying to find out who he truly is. Yes he has flaws, but he keeps an upbeat attitude most of the time. He also tanked a horde of ogres solo so there’s that.

I never minded the pacing of the show because there was always foreshadowing of bigger plot events unfolding in the future, and since the show is from Bean’s perspective it doesn’t really make sense for the bigger plot to be at the forefront for the audience if it isn’t yet for Bean. As someone who’s avoided my problems in very similar ways to Bean I found her little adventures really charming, and I got so excited as she started to catch on to the mysteries that had been foreshadowed throughout the whole show until she finally confronted them. Looking back I love seeing all the little clues to the bigger plot events that would happen that were in some of the earliest episodes, for example the creepy people that put Luci in her life, the weird out of place red thing on the crown that turns out to be a surveillance device, the sketchiness of the arch druidess who turns out to be a mole, the mystery of her mom being petrified, etc.

I think zog is my favourite character, too bad he goes crazy. I like disenchantment but compared to futurama's cast of characters disenchantment's characters aren't as good. Lucy is just a worse bender, bean as a protagonist isn't as good as Fry or Leela. And there is no zoidberg.

Disenchantment is like a D&D campaign. A drunk campaign, but still this is how i view it. Its slow burn and oddball side stories feed into this narrative. Its not mideval Futurama, its Futurama combined with D&D

Bean is hard to like...
- She acts as if she has the moral high ground, but she regularily hurts and even kills people without remorse.... but she has remorse at weird circumstances. She had no problem killing the demon-hunter, but hansel and gretel who are cannibal murders...she hestitated...
- She treated her stepmother and brother like shit..
- She has no problem using her privileges as a princess, but on the other side rejects any responsibility that comes with it and complains about them
- She never takes responsibility for the damages she does or the stuff she steals
- She never thinks ahead...
Example:
Elfo has damned his soul, so she could get him back.... but once he dies again, he will still be damned and go to hell... the only reason she wants him back so bad, is so that SHE can feel better.
Disenchantment is one of the most comfiest shows tbh.
Wanted to love this show, pushed my way through the first season, but couldn't go on. Sounds like I didn't miss much.

Hey at least season 2 of disenchantment is better than season 2 of Korra. With disenchantment it’s a slog, with Korra it’s “let’s do everything we can to make our hero an unlikable assholes and retroactively ruin everything about ATLA”
I also would not call this a good show, but it has been an experience I am grateful for.
