Video's Theme: Productivity always over appearance. All my plants, flowers and trees in the front of my house are for aesthetic beauty (I live in a HOA). However, in my back yard, I want all the plants and trees to be fruit bearing and productive (attractive is good too). Making any changes to your yard or garden can be much more difficult when roots are well established.
My back is well-draining and full sun, so growing options are pretty wide. Houston, Texas is in USDA hardiness growing zone 9, so many citrus, tropical and Mediterranean plants will grow here. My front and back is also designed to be a sanctuary for local and migrating birds which my wife and I love to watch and listen too all year long.
