Yes, it was. When evaluating the entries some years ago, I realized that I only liked 10 entries out of the 23. The winning song from Estonia was out of those 10 songs I really liked. Indeed, I still think that France, Slovenia, Spain and very especially Greece should have won. This must be one of the most notable examples of an ESC won by the wrong entry, and I hope Estonians don't get me wrong. I love most of Estonian entries in ESC, but "Everybody" should have never ever won.

What a funny way to tell the story of Eurovision 2001! Personally, I don't think that it's the definitive worst year ever (that honor goes to 2002, for having a rancid song quality), though it's not a year you would go back to often. France, Slovenia, Greece, and Denmark held up the entire year. And I actually liked the couplets, hehe. I personally think 14 is a massive improvement with the winner, the Netherlands, Iceland, Finland, Norway, Portugal, Switzerland and controversially Malta which I really enjoy with Armenia, Belarus, the host entry, Hungary, which tackles some quite strong subject matter, also being good and of course this is the year of the Ukrainian hamster wheel.

My least favourite contest of all time is 86 although 73 isn't great either. 86 has I think two maybe three songs I actually enjoy - Turkiye, Sweden and sort of Spain and Switzerland weren't bad and should have won. I think it has one of the worst winners of all time. The worst winner of all time IMO is 99 where another ABBA diluted rip off song won and mostly the songs were awful that year too except for Iceland, Croatia, Germany, Estonia and Belgium a bit. It has IMO the worst thing Norway ever sent and yes I know 78 exists at least that it's epically hilarious and deliberate trolling. 2001 might well be the worst year of the 00s though - 2002 is bad too but I think 2004 has enough great songs to save it. 2008 is in the running. 2006 - I love the winner and it was a much needed new genre to win, it has the beautiful Lelija, Tornero one of the best dance songs and a lot of genre diversity. It's a wild ride but I'm kinda there for it especially since I quite like wacky songs in general and I've always loved We Are the Winners in particular although the UK entry can get and stay in the bin. 2008 is a lowlight too although there is some good stuff that did not include the winner or IMO Greece - which to me illustrates that ESC fans will vote for any old tripe if it's got a pretty girl dancing and the staging works.
I guess the worst Eurovision is the past ten years all together. Music is not even decent. Performances appalling. Winners more than questionable. And far too gay
@@Satellite88 There's a channel called Groot who does rewatches on Twitch complete with votes including the semis. It revealed to me 2008 does have some great songs - Turkiye our winner, Portugal, Armenia - thanks Dadi Freyer for bringing that one to my attention, Ukraine, and even NQing Cyprus and Switzerland. It has the finest song ever to come stone dead last with Complice from San Marino a pretty decent rock song. Yes there are a lot of bad novelty songs although I do like Bosnia, Latvia, France and Belgium despite them being utterly bonkers and have a bit of a soft spot for Spain and weirdly enough the Azeri debut is one that country's favs for me (I mostly think Azerbaijan is as basic as hell at Eurovision) the winner is a triumph of local fame, staging and block voting over having a great song and any great originality and encouraging expression of a country's unique culture or expanding the genres of songs who win when even Sweden kinda did that with Euphoria.

1996 is a close second for me. I would still prefer over 2003 but i do agree that 1996 was a low point.(But also probably because i'm German and i'm still salty about Germany not qualifiying).
I was gonna say that! 1996 and 2001 were both so bad!
My favourite year is 1997.
The stage was huge
Nooooo I absolutely love the '96 contest!
Or at least the songs are some of my all-time faves.... The top 3, hands down, my fave entries ever from each respective country, as it happens!
2002 is far worse but honestly Eurovision was shit all of 1999-2003
This is the worst Eurovision.. agreement
2000 to 2008 were rock bottom
Tragedies? We got em
the stage is AWFUL
4:16 sounds like you were pronouncing his name in Hebrew. That’s not how you say it at all 😂
@hallaskjerah
I was making fun of how things are pronounced in Danish.
I'm a B2 in Norwegian - I'm well aware how it's actually pronounced 😝
Wow! Brilliant!! Love this story of 2001! For me, aside of 92, 01 is the most shite year from a production perspective! Songs wise, whilst not at 94 standard, much better than 92,98,99!
No, there was 2011 ! Unoriginal and boring music, votes for the neighbors because the songs were so bad...
But at least we had Zdob şi Zdub
2001 was one of the worst show wise but at least i like a decent chunk of the songs and the audio was good. Sort of the opposite end is 2014 where the stage was amazing but the audio was horrible and i cant stand half the songs, as in for most of 2014 songs id rather jump out of a moving vehicle than listen to them if it came on the car radio.
2014 wasn't bad - song wise.
@@anothercomment I mean it's just my opinion, there's very few songs from 2014 that I like even a little.
@@shroomyesc My one from the 10s that I consider bad is 2013 song wise - apart from the winner, Greece, Hungary, the Netherlands - still great in spite of its creator revealing herself to be a bleeping TERF which seems to have become the fem equivalent of a middle aged bloke running off with someone young enough to be their kid, Malta, Italy and maybe Norway, Belarus and Romania that year can pretty much go in the bin.
Definitly not… in spite of the winner 2019 was practically the worst eurovision I’ve ever seen …
2017 is also up there even if my country won
2015, 2017 and 2019 are my favorite ones along with 2021, so I don't understand? Though I'm going solely on songs here and don't take the actual show in consideration.
ESC never followed the actual modern music, it sounded always dated, after Loreen won (first time) it all changed.
Hay muchas canciones Icónicas ese año.Muchas de ellas aún las escucho.Para nada es el peor año de eurovisión.El escenario es verdad que era terrible.Pero en sus propuestas musicales muy aceptable
Yes, 2001 was an absolute disaster.
Are you kidding me?
2002 was even worse

Commenting on a video you haven't watched? Are you kidding me?
Yessss
2004 exists

Tell me you haven't watched the video without telling me you haven't watched the video
2008 was painful to watch too bc 1/4 of the songs sucked 💀
I feel like the good songs of 2008 were really really good, but the bad songs of 2008 were really really bad. Hardly any in-betweeners.

2003 was the best and 2nd 2004 worst 1999-2002
Are you kidding me?
these analogies are not working mama, could next video have actual facts about the performers 😭😭
Who said there will be a next video?
@@morbidsearch You still have to do one about 1991. :)
1999 was worse
9-11 made atmosphere very subdued
@@BJ-wd2ty
This contest took place 4 months before 9/11 O_o
You talk toooooo fast with an accent, it's so hard to keep up. I stopped watching because I can't follow
Sometimes I'm insecure about my accent and feel like it's too neutral and not strong enough, so I take this as a compliment :)
@@morbidsearch don't, you should talk slower. I bet no one understands you outside the UK.
Hilarious 🤣
2024 was the worst year!!!!
Yeah but not because of the songs.
@@morbidsearch I think!!!
Not only because of politics but for me this year was just so weak
