A very talented actor who's eyes you can't turn away from and a wonderful smile that draws you in. Take all that and add in that he's very aware of, and very kind to, his fans. I feel that he's also a great husband, dad, and humanitarian, with a big sprinkling of just being one great guy. I'd settle for a dinner with this kind man! SAG NY member
He would have made a good Lupin. But given the kind of complete absence of ego he has when it comes to accepting roles, he would have accepted the role of Dobby or Kreacher. He also could have played James Potter because he looks very Harry Potter-ish with glasses on.
Because I read "A Single Man" about 5 times during the 10 years before I saw the movie, and read it in the context of Isherwood's enormous autobiographical notebooks, I watched the movie with considerable detachment, especially with regard to what it distorted and excluded. It's not a bad movie, but what movie has ever done justice to a book so rich? I like Colin Firth a great deal, but I like Christopher Isherwood so much more.
1. Playing a gay professor makes him even more attractive to women. 2. He can´t run away from being a sexsymbol, no chance! 3. Hmmmm he is and ever will be gorgoues
A thinking woman who had actually SEEN the movie, "A Single Man", would know that Colin Firth's acting range encompasses more than the ability to sport a wet t-shirt and make silly, simpering females swoon. Those of us who are old enough to remember the late 1950s and early 1960s will well remember the days when alternative lifestyles weren't tolerated and homosexual men and women lived a life of secrecy and illusion and, if outed, were almost literally run out of town on a rail.

If I may, that's not my favorite interviewer of all times! In general and particularly not for intelligent, multi-faceted Colin Firth! I have a feeling he really hasn't understood much of his personality and rarely tried to capture that rather than throwing post-pubescent stereotypical thinking on us female viewers! Those platitudes in his comments, the relatively empty questions, the whole title of this interview! You couldn't come up with something more cliché-ridden eyecatcher, could you? Hey, as a private person you may think ...I can't imagine "Mr. Darcy" being Woldemort!.... As a professional interviewer you don't just not say that, you have no right or good enough judgement to point out "I don't think you would make a good Woldemort!" in the first place! Of course delightful Mr. Firth didn't exactly mind it. But how would you know, how would Firth know at that point?! You better rephrase your evaluation and express a cleverer thought! Excuse me, I am just allergic to bad journalism, especially if he's busy annoying my favorite actors!
“I think it would have gone spiraling out of control if I hadn’t had children.” He was taking about his ego. That said, I think he’s being sarcastic when he says that.
@@allieSunl He's not being sarcastic at all. I've seen and read numerous interviews where he's said that his children keep him grounded and he's very grateful for fatherhood.
A brilliant actor!!! Had to play Hamlet and King Lear!!! And Shakespeare himself . And he was forced to play fools and gays... so God punished him. My wife cheated. Divorce. Lonely old age. God help him!!!

Colin Forth is a beautiful, beautiful man. I haven't stopped swooning over him since 1995.
Who wouldn't fall in love with Colin Firth since the 1995 BBC miniseries :-D
Well I was just Born, so I didn't see it back then and still had no problem with that^^ But I totally get your point!

I'm so in love with this man! He's so talented!!
I would accepted Colin Firth as anybody in Harry Potter. He could've been cast as Hermione for all I care, I just wanted him in the film.
