- One of my favorite bands and drummers at the moment. Decided to try a song off their new album. I tried to keep the parts as close to sounding like the recording as I could. If you like this, go check out their new album: itunes.apple.com/us/album/peri...

No matter how many times I watch this video, it never gets old! Mad props, dude!
Thank you! There will be a new dubstep vid up within the next 2 weeks.
Daaaamnnnn that was great! Love your cymbal set up by the way.
Yep, I like them a lot! I played 9000's prior for years. Took a little to get used to them, but they are by far my favorite now.
there is just so much going on in this song drum wise, and you completely nailed it.
I tip my hat to you sir.
100x better than luke hollands cover. and i fucking love luke holland
I love it when you post covers of songs i like cos i know it will most probably be the best cover of that song
I keep coming back over and over again ... your drumming is just awesome.
Yea I saw that too after I filmed. What you see I already brightened up a good bit in final cut too. I'll probably be borrowing a desk lamp from now on.
Your covers never fail to impress me man... keep up the good work!
I break it down in parts by ear, taking it a measure or 2 at a time. Took about 3 hours total over the course of a few days to transcribe it all, and about 6 hours of playing over the course of the last week to learn it on my kit. The hardest bit to transcribe was that tom bit @2:33 but at that point its just going off what feels best and sounds good, even if it isn't exactly the same part.
Thank you! As having done that switch myself, I would recommend it. They aren't for everyone but I feel like I have more control while using less energy which is pretty nice!
Probably the most badass cover I've ever seen. Awesome dude!
Holy hell. That was spot on.
So sick man! Your quickly becoming one of my favourite drummers on youtube! keep up the good work :)
Nailed it bro! That's pure talent right there!
killing it! great job dude!
Nice work man, mega props!
beautifully done mate, im watching your video and learning from it how to play this song thanks for posting this! i recently got into matt halpern and periphery and this is a great starting point for training to this style of drumming. keep up the good work!
Amazing!
I had to sub ! This is just amazing dude, you're so sick, nice sounding kit too
that sir, was legit. loved every second of it :3
Intense cover man!
do it! It's great practice and kinda fun!
Loved it ! I follow blindlessly
Killed it dude.
awesome cover you savage! do have a blast next!
I switch it up every now and then, but usually when starting from scratch I'll spend a good hour placing things just right. Then marking it so set up at shows only lasts a few minutes. Basically I mostly practice what I can't do or I feel could improve on about 80% of the time. The rest is practicing more basic exercises. Constant 8's on feet for long periods of time, heel up and down. Singles, Doubles, Paradiddles, and other sticking patterns, sometimes with accent patterns. Stuff like that
Nice job dude!
Sick cover dude
muy buenoooo , excelente
I think my favorite part of this video is that its 1 camera angle, so we can tell you played the whole song through without punching in somewhere. Who knows if Holland did it in one take or not....
This deserves far more 'likes' than Luke Holland's rendition. Well done, man. Tight as fuck.
How you memorize songs like this is beyond me.
Thank you, it's greatly appreciated.
Dude holy FUCK! You're killing it!
Amazing stick flip at 2:02
Excellent job man, this is the best cover i've seen so far, what kit are you using? It sounds beautiful!
Another awesome one Ben!! xo:)
thank you!
YES! i know he can play, so i know its going to be an awesome cover before even opening up the video.
GREAT!
yep, currently playin in Digital Summer
Tight man... keep it up
omg i want to be able to play like you, beast performance :)
thanks man!
sick !
Yes! For phenomenal sound and durability, go with Sabian! They're innovative and creative with all of their cymbals. And, I've never seen a cracked one!
I did write out music for this one..I'll try to get it scanned and up here soon.
Awesome dude, I wish my drummer was as talented as you are!
Your toms sound really nice.
Nice job, dude.
thanks!
Awesome man... LIKE A BOSS! :^)
Let's be real... He's crushin it,
2:50 *throws beaten old stick, grabs a new one, takes a well deserved drink like a boss, checks messages, then resumes playing right on que*
you are fuckin deadly, checked out your band and everything, man you KILL it
Perfect.
Fucking amazing cover man!
Epic cover man, I'm jealous of your talent :D One question though: how you do you go about learning songs as technical as this?
Man you nailed this! Sick skills, im definitely subbing to this! Such a difficult song to learn aswell.
Im considering crossing over from DW 9000 to Pearls Demon Drives, as I wanna try out the direct drive pedals, would you recommend them?
You look insanely comfortable behind a kit, it's mad and awesome. How long did you spend working out where you wanted each bit of the kit, and how did you do it? That and, what's your general practice routine?
Thanks for not doing a continuous double-kick pattern at 0:32. I love the kick drum at this part
Fucking awesome man!
dude, u are just awesome! very good job!!
like what u did there 3:50 :P
Flawless man. How long did it take you learn this song?
its all about TRX!
Fucking awesome man!!!
So I first saw this cover about one year ago.. still love it. Are you still doing covers? Did you ever take requests? Ever considered to do a cover of an All Shall Perish song? I bet you'd kill Black Gold Reign.
22" A Custom Ping Ride
hahah thank you!
that was good as fuck! crazy accurate cover man!
Im using vic firth 5A extremes at the moment.
I really wanted to..I found it to start at 130 but when it hits the first chorus it changes slightly, and again in other areas of the song as well. I ended up just making an 8 count click into the track and just did my best to stick with it from there without it.
fucking killed it man!
you my god man have covinced me you deserve a sub in only 1 vid. gj
Feel free to share around :) haha
I'd try just throwing them in anything you play. The more you get used to it, the more it becomes a natural movement. Also, practicing with a metronome with 16th note subdivisions would probably help since that would highlight where you want the ghost notes to fall.
Also, do you have any tips or exercises for practicing ghost notes? I can't seem to make them sound natural at all. I always write the ghost notes when I transcribe a song, so I learn them as part of the groove, so I don't know how to approach them when I wanna incorporate them naturally in my playing. I know they're meant to just fill in the cracks but I don't get them haha. Thanks a lot!
Awesome! How did you learn this song?
yeah man,I tried a lot find the tempo but like you said the tempo changes very slightly but man thanks!!!!!!!
Ahaha! Drinking and Touching your cellphone, while drumming. Ben, doing some other things at the same time means "Your brain is awesome!"
its a stack: a 18" china with an 18" crash on top
noice!
awesome dude! it seems that u're the only drummer on youtube (besides Matt himself) that has feeling while playing this song! haahaaha
best on youtube
How do you go about learning something like this?
Pearl Demon drives right? If so how are they, and should i get those or axis longboards?
Whoa! The singer almost sounds like chad grey during the screaming parts
PLEASE ATTEMPT ERISED... I know most of that song is easy but DAMN that drum solo is freakishly difficult.
hey ben, what kind of sticks do you use?
you couldnt have played this any better!
Sorry to be the one to ask this, but do you make music sheet for these songs?
I do session work for bands/artists. Feel free to message me for any inquiries :)
You should do ragnarok, it's my favourite song, drums wise, by them..
what kind of zildjian ride is that?
man,you use metronome?? and if you use what's the tempo of this music? thanks!
whats that cymbal to the right of the china? im not a drummer btw haha
how did u get the tabs? D:
depends how much and how hard you play I guess
