    The biggest thing I learned from the presentation is how to choose line tests. Power fishing (cranks, jigs, swims, Texas rigs) go 15lbs and up. Finesse fishing (dropshots, shakies, Neds, light spinners) go 6-10lbs. I realize now the majority of my combos are setup for finesse (4 to 10lbs). I'm gonna up the line test on a couple of my rigs so I can power fish correctly and with confidence. I must admit that I like using mono, a lot...LOL! Thanks for posting, I needed to see this.

    Wow just seeing this out of the box ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

    Tactical bassing. I use 50 pound braid when throwing swim baits period. never lost one swim bait. I also color my line with black magic marker reducing visibility period. I tie my knots so well if I get hung up literally can pull and bend the hook out if needed and get my expensive swim baits back to me lol.. when I switch from bait caster to spinner reel I use 20 braid with fluro leader everytime. this works perfect for me. the only thing I use mono for is a backer for braid period. just wanted to share with you brother, thanks for videos love em

    Really enjoyed this. I hope folks realize and appreciate how much valuable time could be saved by watching, digesting and applying the guidelines Matt spelled out in this video. I can remember the day I switched from straight mono to braid-mono for fishing a spook. I was borderline furious at myself for not doing it sooner. Like, years sooner.

    Great video Matt! I agree with all of your recommendations except for topwater. I always just fish straight braid on mine. I rarely have problems with my bait getting wrapped around the front treble plus I'd rather have the security and convenience of fishing straight braid.

      65#braid, to 17 mono, for for everything except drop shoot and finesse, for those just bring your choice of line and use it for a leader, I find it to be the easiest thing and cheapest way a man on a budget with only one rod and reel out here on the delta.

    • @vire559
      @vire559 6 років тому +1

      Pay attention to your line diameter. For normal Baitcast make sure your mainline braid at least 0.28mm diameter for easy manageable line.
      For bfs reel mainline Braid/Unifilament 0.17mm or below with mono / fluoro from 0.25mm or below as leader

    I guess its all in the style you fish. Im more of a drag base guy, than I am line type and size.
    I use 6, 10, 15, and 20 pound mono on everything.
    Ive caught 7 pound bass, 10 pound reds, 25 inch specs, 20 inch bowfin, and 25 pound alligator gar on 6 pound mono test, with zero issue. Its in the drag settings, I adjust it several times if need be when a big fish is on.
    Just personal preference I guess. Good video.

    I have a HUGE QUESTION! Please Help! I am new to bait-casters, used maybe a few times to cast (2-3), and last summer, and before that I was an avid fisherman using spinning gear. Cheap BPS Combo, Pfueuger on a 39.99$ blue rod, it was a combo. I was using 20LB braid I believe with a 12lb Flourocarbon leader..... I love tossing plastics, SENKOS, any kind of creature bait, but I am looking for a setup (baitcaster) in the 200-250 range (ROD/REEL). What would you SUGGEST?????
    I want to be able to use this new bait caster for throwing senkos, but doing things I COULD NOT with the spinning rod......like toss jigs, spinnerbaits, chatters, buzz, etc without my cheap rod BENDING IN HALF trying to reel in the Jig or Spinner.....It was horrible! I tossed a jig out, and tried popping it off the bottom & it was just bending my top rod half.....so I wouldn't know what was on there!!! People have been saying go with the BPS PRO QUALIFIER & JOHNNY MORRIS ROD (MedHeavy) (This was the employees opinion over Lews, Quantium, etc. I dont have the money to buy a rod for each setup, but I want the combo to be able to handle weightless senkos, all the way up to a 3/4 oz jig without having to worry about the rod bending, I want it to cast like a dream (Hence the bait caster), be durable, and ya, just something that can handle most things without having to change my line........COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW YOUR OPINION I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT, everyone I talk to says go with the Qualifier, or Go with DIAWA, or LEWS, mostly Quantium..........I am totally mindless! Keep in mind again I only have 250$ to spend, and I NEED IT TO be able to toss Finesse without backlash, throw finesse jigs, as where I fish the bass are tricky, last summer all they wanted was senkos, and its the truth....not a lot of fish in our lakes in MASS esp. where I live. Is it possible to get a setup that will do swimbaits, senkos, buzz, and all the other types I listed?????? Please Respond Anyone.

    Which lb test braid would you put into a finesse rod as a main line? I mean spinning rod for senkos and stuff like that....
    I use 7lb fluoro leader but I'm not sure about the main braid size

      I'd be using 50-65 lb braid for that. You need the strength in case the braid gets down in the cover too. For leader, I'd be running 20 lb in that scenario.

    What do you recommend for a good braided mainline size, were I what usually be tying on 12 to 15 lbs Floro? Is 30lb braid over kill? Would you step up or step down to 20?

    Great video and informative. I mainly use Trilene Big Game for my bass fishing needs and tie a uni knot. I have had reliable consistent results with catching fish. More fish have been caught on straight mono then prolly any other line. So whats the issue with running straight mono for bass fishing?? Ive only been bass fishing for 2 years so thats why i ask. Thanks again happy holidays

      @tacticalbassin  7 років тому

      Hey Adam, thanks for taking the time to comment. There is no problem catching bass on mono but technonology has come a long way since the advent of mono. Now there are lines that are much more sensitive, strong, etc. With braid you'll literally know that you were bit sooner and be able to set the hook harder with less effort. With fluorocarbon you can get bit on heavier lines because they're clearer than mono.

    Love the videos I'm fairly new to fishing they've been a big help I'm my growth as a fisherman! Just bought carado 70 7:2 and abu Garcia venom 2 what pound test would you spool with it? It's my first bait caster. Thinking 10lb tatsu I fish a lot of reservoirs in Norcal. Thanks!

    Unfortunately I fish on a really small boat with a buddy and rod space is very limited. We fish the delta a lot and I have a Dobyns 734C with a 7:1 reel. Would it be appropriate then to spool it with 40lb braid to keep me pretty much covered for most techniques (i.e. buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, occasional large crankbait)? Thanks!

      Yes, 40 lb is a great compromise. You'll be really happy with that.

    Thanks again, Matt....... Do you think the color of the braid plays a big role in the braid/leader process. Ergo, do you think 832 Ghost Braid (30lb) is bad for my 7' stout, spinning applications with a long leader (home lake is clear to about 8' depth) - Texas rig, Carolina Rig, light Jika Rigs, etc - if I use a 10' (ish) mono leader? I use 65lb Camo for straight braid apps. I have the Neon Green (30lb) I was going to use on one baitcaster/6'6" medium heavy setup with 7-10' mono leader for lipless/square bill/jerk bait.......... Am I over thinking this, or does it really matter?

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  7 років тому

      As long as you've got that long leader, don't worry too much about the main line color IMO

    • @kongvang4132
      @kongvang4132 7 років тому

      Zack Briggs berkley big game or XL. Use line conditioner when spooling the line. A trick to help reduce bad birdnest is to cast as far as you can then put electrical tape on the line (tape one full circle). reel the line in and next time you get a bird nest you won't ruin the whole spool of line

    you list Maxcuatro for the braided line for all of the lighter lines. Once you look at link to Tacklewarehouse there is no 5lb or 10lb or 15lb just 20lb and above. So my questions is for lighter braid should I just get Suffix 832 also or is 20lb Maxcuatro better than 10lb for dropshot and or senko fishing

    • @tacticalbassin
      @tacticalbassin  6 років тому

      That was an oversight... for drop shot run that 10 lb Sufix 832. However, that 20 lb maxcuatro is super thin for its size... but given a choice I'd prefer 10 lb.
