Short story you may like: when my daughter was pre-teen, she loved to go bass fishing with me when I was not in a tournament. Then we went on a church trip and one of the events was a tourist "Trout Lake" in the NC mountains. She was excited to go there. The so-called lake was more like a swimming pool with hundreds of captive trout. All you had to do was drop a piece of corn on a hook and 'bingo', you caught a fish. After the first one, she put the pole down and said, "This ain't real fishing, this is sissy fishing"... I loved it because I knew I had taught her well. No Spotlighting Bass!!!!
Next time go to some creeks in NC and catch trout. I'm a saltwater guy but I was stuck in the NC foothills for 5 awful years, and I caught trout in Wilson's Creek and around there.
As an elk hunter and someone who pursues other similar game, I can confidently say that unregulated access can devastate wildlife populations. This is reminiscent of how market hunters nearly wiped out big game in both my home state in the West and in the East. Regulations have played a crucial role in restoring and sustaining these populations, and I believe bass could benefit from similar measures. Conservation initiatives, such as the Pittman-Robertson Wildlife Restoration Act (PR Act) of 1937, have contributed $1.2 billion to the welfare of game species last year year over year. This funding is a significant reason why I am able to hunt today. I think bass management could greatly benefit from comparable regulatory frameworks.
This has been my “go-to” for the past three years. I’ve never NOT caught fish using it. I like to run it parallel to grasslines and pitch into holes in the grass. Just note that the Keitech is very soft, and you’ll go through the 8 pack in a half a day. One note, I often have to slightly bury the hook tip because it does pull through easily and the motion becomes erratic.
Keitech are my go to bait though I havent tried a lot of other brands. They are soft but I think that is what makes them so good. I run them until they won't stay on the hook anymore lol. I've been catching a ton on them all fall and they've led to my best days fishing with a 26 fish day and multiple 10 fish days and also my PB 5 1/2 pounder last week.
Years ago Scott Martin turned me on to pitching a paddle tail worm in shallow grass. It's been very successful and I think it's because of the similar flapping motion of the tail. Not so much on the initial drop but more so on that first lift and drop after bottom contact. I definitely see the potential here and I can hardly wait to try it.
Gonna try this up at Saginaw next weekend for the Hobie event!!! I gave it a try last spring after hearing you mention it in another video, and it actually worked for me, I had two about 3 lbs each, then I laid it down to topwater fish the rest of the day. Haven't tried it since. Thanks for reminding me about it, def gonna flip it around the pencil reeds at Saginaw!
Thx for the video Randy. What size hook for this setup? 3/0 ? Just fyi, the link u put in description for this g finesse hook went to a different hook. Alpha or something like that.
Randy, what’s the custom on the pro fishing tours of competitors approaching an angler who is having success and asking what bait or lure they’re using? And what is the custom if another competitor is asking you what you’re fishing? Do most anglers respond truthfully, decline to respond, or give only a half truthful response, leaving out some particular equipment or technique? Thanks and great video.
That was back in the day when all anglers in the pros were friends, not cocky enemies as they are today. If it's an honest question from some guy who shows no ill intent, sure, help him out. It all comes full circle. Just my opinion.
Great looking presentation. Love me a texas rig for socal saltwater inshore bass fishing, Will even include a glass bead for fishing at night for added sound/vibration
When I take my wife fishing I always put her a kitech Texas rigged on. She doesn’t have much experience fishing but always manages to catch fish with it. She just slow winds bumping along bottom most of the time. It’s a great way for any beginner to just catch fish
Have a question. You talked about a toothpick. Do you wedge it in the hole so the line doesn’t slide at all? Or just do it kinda hard so it slides a little bit less? Thanks. I enjoy your videos. If you ever want to come out to Utah fishing for big Mack’s out to Flaming gorge I’d have you out.
I've Texas rigged crappie size minnow lures on #2 gold wire hook, 1/8 oz bullet weight. Set the hook a little sifter than bass fishing. That's my crappie secret. Catches bass while crappie fishing. Mostly 1.5 to 2 lbs.
Are you using the G-Finesse or the Nano Alpha Gamakatsu hook? I believe you said they were G-Finesse but the link is to the Nano Alpha. Also, what size hook are you using for the 3.5" Z-Swim?
Thanks Randy I have the ingredients for it but never used it. Also can u make a video about how many rods u are taking to the lake and what are your preferred setups on each of them. Thank you
Early spring and I was bank fishing the same bank using the Rage swim bait 3.25", a very similar bait, catching a few every time out. Then, after a month, no bites at all. I had run out of the bait, saved the torn up baits and had used super glue on the torn up baits until all the baits were torn up, and no bites. I cut the baits I had almost in half and used a 1/4 oz or 3/16 oz jig and started out performing everyone on the bank. Size matters, the fish recognized the 3.25 baits had hooks in them and had started biting my shorter baits. What caused me to try the smaller mod was a video I saw from a drone. The fisherman tossed a Whopper plopper past 3 nice size bass and as soon as it was started being retreived, the bass in unison left the area. Hmm. They knew the bait and avoided it. Using I A's zoom worm 13" heat weld trick when the bass quit biting the short swim bait and I thought no bass were present along the bank, the 13" mod started producing. I now throw multi color welded worms, modified creature baits, whatever does the "different" appearance trick.
Ever flip this on Table Rock in the fall? Heading down there in a couple of weeks and wondering if this was a technique you've used there with any success.
The Keitechs work great but I find their plastic is a little softer than other brands which causes me to readjust the bait on the hook every little bite. Super Glue gel helps at the nose.
I’ve gone away from the Gamakatsu EWG hooks to the Ryugi Infini EWG hooks. They are sharper, and seem to penetrate easier with that nano coating on them, and I like the alignment of the hook point versus the shank as there’s more bite with the Ryugi.
I don't like that manufacturer's put that "channel" on the baits. After a few casts, the bend of the hook will start coming through the bait with ease and that hook will become more and more exposed. It works great for the first couple of casts but, after that you have to look at a way of burying that hook into nothing because of the built in channel.
The bait might not be rigged nice and centered, or your retrieving it to fast? Also a slightly bigger hook with a lower center of gravity/a belly weighted EWG will act like a keel and help keep the bait upright. Good luck and tight lines out there brother
I thought it's was something new lol done it years ago however I like the zoom flukes better and use bullet syke rubber crimps them flukes motion catch fish bi matter where u fish fresh or salt water
Always amazed they still don’t sell these rubber baits already laying flat with the proper hooks in them ready for a fisherman to simply tie onto their damned line and get fishing instead of performing surgery and figuring out which of the 80 style hooks and weights should be used….who wouldn’t be willing to pay a bit more to get a plastic case filled with a favorite lure already properly rigged?
I do this with rubber worms . Also I paint the wates to match the worms .doing this for over fifty years I catch more fish than people around me every time. Get that worm to dance Paz dance people say good luck I say it’s skill. Not luck.
You don't need to be having anymore co-anglers on board with you Randy, they are subject to give you a bad case of the Red Ass. That would put you under a lot of stress and you need to stay focused on where you can catch a limit of fish. Be cool. "Hold em Hook!"
As a woman kayak fisher , I went from fishing oceans to NEBRASKA , learned a lot from you. Thank you

i started pitaching and flipping a chatterbait with great success!!!
I read about this in the 90’s in Denny Brauer’s book. It definitely works! I’ve had some amazing days doing it.
Thx for the video Randy. What size hook for this setup? 3/0 ? Just fyi, the link u put in description for this g finesse hook went to a different hook. Alpha or something like that.
I have used a similar method to this by rigging a paddle tail senko worm on a shaky head. Caught my PB with it!

Great tips as usual, quick question do you prefer mono or braid for flipping?

Thanks for sharing this.
Have to try it.
My daughter loves fishing up. We will be jigging and catch bait fish, and then she always wants to catfish with it 😂
I much prefer a bober stop because you can get a little extra action if you give it some extra space.
Is it better to use a twist lock so the plastic doesn’t get tore up as much/fast?
Definitely yes but if you don't mind buying new baits all the time then this is better.
Great tip, I have never used a swimbait, but I can see being successful also since it is a slimmer profile that can go thru grass easily. 👍
I can’t wait to try this

Hello, you mention the Gamakatsu Hybrid EWG, but the link is for the Nano Alpha EWG.
I was flipping reapers on the Cal Delta and Clear Lake with that exact setup 25 years ago, and won many big fish pots doing so...
Are you using the G-Finesse or the Nano Alpha Gamakatsu hook? I believe you said they were G-Finesse but the link is to the Nano Alpha. Also, what size hook are you using for the 3.5" Z-Swim?
I’ve used that technique several years now and had great success! Another technique that I really like is using that on a Gika rig!
I sometimes rig a fluke up backwards on a Texas rig and slow drag it on bottom!!! Catches hella fish
Backwards? Like tail first?
BS
Thanks Randy I have the ingredients for it but never used it. Also can u make a video about how many rods u are taking to the lake and what are your preferred setups on each of them. Thank you
I found 27 yr old ROUND tooth picks in the bottom of 😎my tackle box and still used them ....

Great content! I hear many anglers say to bury the eye like you mentioned and other say make sure you don’t bury the eye. Which is it???
Thanks I will try that
Are these any good to catch Walleye?
Interesting. Gonna have to think outside the norm on this sport

Something about the strike king 3.5, for me it has out performed the keitech
Great info
The Keitechs work great but I find their plastic is a little softer than other brands which causes me to readjust the bait on the hook every little bite. Super Glue gel helps at the nose.
Strike king is a little bit stiffer u might want to give it a try
@@tngreenevfl2022True, but the softness of the Keitech is what gives it the wiggle. It’s a tradeoff between expense and realism.
I could make a whole video about Gamakatsu hooks and why they are the best for fluke and swimbait fishing.

It’s exactly like a weighted Senko only different.
How far do you peg the weight from the lure, please.
3/8" to 1" is what I do.

If u must use a toothpick, square is best , won’t pinch line as bad.

I would think hook size would depend on bait size & length of the bait.
