    Wondering:
    - Do they get in the water and shit while submerged?
    - Do they hang over the edge and let it plunk in?
    - or do they evacuate their bowels elsewhere, then carry it to the river?

i spent part of my honeymoon in paris circa 1980 and i'm sat down on the seine and my wife pointed out the copious amount of turds floating past us...she actually took the time to count them for 2 minutes and it was circa 239. we mentioned this finding to the waiter in a cafe and he refused to serve us. so, i said "where do all these french turds come from?"...he called the police...

It takes a LOT to pollute flowing river water. Something human waste could never achieve. This rhetoric reminds me of how industrialists blamed the Great Stink of London on the commoners even though it was tanning and other commercial wastes that clogged the river up.
When I was growing up in Sudan, I saw how the Nile was always used to wash and bathe in by people, and yet it’s always clear enough for even the snootiest of tourists to swim in. This has changed recently however and it is no longer safe to use the river.
Why? Because once upon a time no one was allowed to build industrial facilities near the river AKA the biggest sources of pollution by orders of magnitudes. Regulation lapsed due to instability/corruption and now the river is starting to resemble most other bodies of water exposed to industrial use
Pollution I suspect which kills the water purification treatment most cities put in their bodies of water to prevent this exact problem.

here is a story of a swimming pool Once upon a time, in a bustling bakery nestled at the heart of a quaint town, there lived a humble cookie named Crispin. Crispin was not your ordinary cookie; he possessed a rare talent for bringing joy to anyone who took a bite of his perfectly baked dough. His secret ingredient was a pinch of stardust, whispered to him by an ancient oven sprite who lived in the bakery.
Crispin was baked alongside his cookie companions every morning by the skilled hands of Mrs. Butterbee, the kind-hearted baker who owned the shop. She believed that Crispin had a special destiny, though she couldn't quite put her finger on what it might be. Each day, Crispin would sit on the cooling rack, surrounded by the tantalizing aroma of freshly baked bread and pastries, eagerly awaiting his turn to be boxed up and taken to his new home.
One sunny morning, a young girl named Emily skipped into the bakery with her father. Emily's eyes sparkled with excitement as she scanned the shelves of treats. When she spotted Crispin, nestled among his fellow cookies, she knew instantly that he was the one she wanted. Mrs. Butterbee smiled warmly as she placed Crispin into a small paper bag and handed him to Emily.
As Emily and her father walked home, Crispin couldn't help but feel a flutter of anticipation. He wondered what adventures lay ahead in his new home. When they arrived, Emily carefully opened the bag and held Crispin up to her nose, inhaling deeply. The aroma of chocolate and vanilla filled her senses, and she couldn't wait to take a bite.
Crispin found himself in a cozy kitchen, surrounded by Emily's family. They gathered around the table, laughing and sharing stories as they enjoyed Mrs. Butterbee's creations. Emily's little brother, Tommy, reached for Crispin first, his eyes widening with delight as he tasted the magical cookie. "It's the best cookie ever!" he exclaimed, crumbs scattering across the table.
From that day on, Crispin became a beloved member of Emily's family. He witnessed birthdays, holidays, and quiet evenings by the fire. Each time he was taken from the jar, he knew he was bringing happiness to those around him. Over time, Crispin began to notice a change within himself. He felt more alive, as if the stardust that had been baked into him was amplifying his ability to spread joy.
One winter evening, Emily's grandmother came to visit. She had a twinkle in her eye as she reached for Crispin. "You're a special cookie, aren't you?" she whispered, her voice full of wisdom. Crispin felt a warmth spread through him, as if he were being hugged from the inside out. He realized then that his destiny was not just to be eaten and enjoyed, but to bring a little bit of magic into the lives of everyone he touched.
Years passed, and Emily grew up. She moved away to pursue her dreams, but Crispin remained in the family home, a constant source of comfort and joy. Eventually, Emily returned with her own children, and Crispin had the pleasure of delighting yet another generation with his irresistible charm.
One day, as Crispin sat in his jar on the kitchen counter, he heard a familiar voice. It was Mrs. Butterbee, who had come to visit after all these years. She smiled warmly at Crispin, her eyes misting with pride. "You've done well, my little cookie," she said softly, patting the jar fondly.
And so, Crispin's story continued, a tale of sweetness, love, and the magic of a cookie who brought happiness wherever he went. In that small bakery, nestled in the heart of a town that time seemed to forget, Crispin's legacy lived on, reminding everyone who tasted his magic that sometimes, the smallest things can make the biggest difference in the world.

In the heart of a bustling city, where skyscrapers kissed the clouds and the streets hummed with the pulse of urban life, there lay an oasis of calm and serenity-a swimming pool unlike any other. Known simply as "Azure Waters," this pool was nestled on the rooftop of a luxurious hotel, its surface shimmering like liquid glass under the warm rays of the sun.
The pool had a history steeped in elegance and extravagance. It was said that movie stars and dignitaries had once lounged beside its turquoise depths, their laughter mingling with the gentle lapping of water against the pool's edge. Over the years, Azure Waters had become more than just a pool; it was a symbol of leisure and sophistication, a sanctuary where guests could escape the demands of daily life.
Every morning, before the city stirred awake, the pool lay tranquil and inviting, its surface a perfect mirror reflecting the changing hues of the sky. As the day progressed, guests would trickle in, drawn by the promise of cool waters and panoramic views of the city skyline. Cabanas shaded by billowing white curtains offered respite from the sun, where guests could sip cocktails and indulge in gourmet treats delivered by attentive staff.
The poolside atmosphere was a symphony of relaxation. Sunbathers stretched out on plush loungers, their skin kissed by the sun, while children splashed joyfully in the shallow end, their laughter echoing off the surrounding walls. Lifeguards in bright red uniforms stood watchful sentinel, ensuring everyone's safety amidst the aquatic revelry.
At sunset, Azure Waters transformed into a scene of breathtaking beauty. The sky blazed with hues of orange and pink, casting a golden glow over the water that seemed to turn it into molten metal. Guests gathered on the poolside terrace, clinking glasses as they toasted to another day well spent. The city lights flickered to life, painting a tapestry of twinkling stars against the backdrop of night.
Yet, Azure Waters was not only a place of leisure; it was also a canvas for moments of personal reflection and connection. Lovers shared whispered secrets in the infinity edge, their silhouettes framed against the setting sun. Business tycoons conducted meetings in the shade of umbrellas, negotiating deals with the rhythmic hum of water in the background.
Throughout the seasons, Azure Waters remained a constant beacon of luxury and rejuvenation. Even during rare thunderstorms, when raindrops danced upon its surface like a thousand tiny drumbeats, the pool retained its allure. Guests would gather under the shelter of cabanas, savoring the cozy intimacy as they watched the storm's drama unfold over the cityscape.
Occasionally, special events would transform Azure Waters into a hub of celebration. Poolside parties with live music and vibrant decorations brought an air of festivity, where guests mingled freely, their spirits buoyed by the infectious energy of the occasion. Birthdays, anniversaries, and weddings became unforgettable memories etched into the pool's storied history.
As the years passed, Azure Waters witnessed the ebb and flow of life within the city. Families grew, friendships blossomed, and dreams were forged beneath its rippling surface. Generations of guests returned time and again, drawn by the enduring allure of this urban oasis.
And so, Azure Waters stood as a testament to the power of water to refresh, rejuvenate, and inspire. Amidst the concrete jungle, it remained a sanctuary-a shimmering jewel where the stresses of modern life melted away, leaving only the blissful sensation of weightless freedom in its wake.
