Non-experts blindly bashing BMI as BS is BS. It has limitations, but that doesn't make it useless in the hands of qualified people. At a population level it correlates very strongly with adiposity. That means for *most* people it's going to a useful quick guide, and the exceptions should be obvious
Hey man. In 2020 I was 260 pounds at 6 foot 3. My LDL was 160 and Hemo was 6. - I started eating better, like you I snacked at night when my daughter went to bed. I started cycling. I’m now 190 pounds, all numbers are exceptional and I feel better now than I ever have in my life. Keep going, boss man. You got this.
@@ReidYeilding0826 I started eating whole foods. Nothing with a label. And then I sold my car and I bicycle commute everywhere. (About 17 miles a day).
As an internal medicine physician and mountain biker, an LDL of 132 in a low risk patient is only minimally elevated (130 or less is acceptable). The A1c of 5.6% is more concerning and indicates a need for weight loss and avoiding crap like sodas and fast food.
My experience is pretty much the one narrated on this video, and one thing that made me confused was my A1c being good, but the 'instant' 12h fasting glucose levels (don't know how it's called in english) was 99. I'm losing weight and remember not being hungry at all going to the lab (using a bike, of course). I think my body just kept the normal sugar levels since I wasn't eating any, compared to a person not on a diet that eat a lot of carbs and then is basically starving after not eating for 12h. To sum up, it seems that some tests expect a person to be an average bread eater
Slightly elevated a1c and fasting blood glucose is normal in athletes, look up dr guess substack. With studies finding that average pro cyclist has 5.4 +-0.2 % A1c. Not that I consider Seth an athlete.
Congratulations on this one, as a physician I can tell that everything you referred to in the technical aspect of the video is on point. You could not be more right.! I have had a hand full of patients in similar position, or even worse, where the are already diabetics, hypertensives, or their cholesterol is high, that follow the Doctor's recommendations and within months you see a significant improvement. I have seen a few patients no longer need blood pressure or cholesterol pills after loosing 20+lbs, exercise and organizing their diet. I am happy to see a non medical figure using their platform to spread the message and let an entire community know that these changes work and that we could save ourselves a lot of serious health issues down the road just by making a decision about our health in general.!
Doctors should treat food as medicine but they don't because there is no money in it. My 72 year old mother was told to go on cholesterol pills. She changed her diet instead & 6 months later her cholesterol was within range, no pills needed. Her doctor was impressed. Health is Wealth!
It's definitely not easy, especially with the availability of processed foods vs fresh food at the store. It sounds like you have the right mindset, I think just understanding what you are putting into your body is a huge part of it.
I’ve had a similar wake-up call about 6 months ago. My problem is will power, eating the right stuff is easy and I know what to do, it’s sticking to it that I struggle with.
Same, I’ve been tracking my diet for a year hoping to make improvements in my health, and I haven’t lost any weight…add to that I got my labs checked recently after putting them off for a few years and my cholesterol is a mixed bag of good and bad. Time to make a decision.
You have a great doctor. Not many of them speak about nutrition to correct those issues; they simply hand you meds and tell you they’ll see you in 6 months. Good job on getting those numbers down.
Dang Seth, this video dropped at the same moment I'm going through this exact scenario. Thanks for the candid glimpse into your situation. So many of us who watch the channel are in your direct peer group, I imagine this hit home for so many of us. I'm 46 and becoming a father was the catalyst for a lot of unhealthy habits. Time to stop making excuses. Seriously, good job on this one my dude!
cholesterol is the substrate that vitamin D and testosterone are made from, and innumerable other molecules that you need for being alive. it's kind of funny how "cholesterol" is popularly used as a four letter word if you know anything about biochem.
I’m a high functioning alcoholic and endurance cyclist at the same time. i have to remind myself every day, that be physically active and feeling generally fit is never a good excuse for ruining my health at the same time. It’s a huge mental trap. „You earned that IPA and pizza” way of thinking gets out of hands very quickly. I am happy you managed to improve your health so much so quickly. For me it is still an everyday struggle. Thank you for touching this topic.
Seth, once again you are completely transparent, which is what I love about you! I’m 53 years old and going through the same health struggles. You have taught me everything I know about mountain biking, btw. I love your honesty about everything.
Great job, Seth! I had the same wake up call about a year ago. Since then, I dropped almost 50lbs, my cholesterol and sugar are back to normal levels, and I'm in the best shape of my life at 45. I'm not going back!
@@Kiter19735 can't speak for that place specifically but my local area has smoothie shops that use nothing but fresh ingredients made in front of you. Even if his is full of that, it is not necessary the best thing but still a step in the right direction from his alternative.
Blending fruit with a mixer is bypassing the first step of digestion (chewing) and is a sort of hazard. When you have to chew the fruit, you get tired and bored eventually, and won't eat as much. Plus, you have the full experience of tasting every hard-earned bite of it, rather than just guzzling it down as a smoothie. So it's like having a natural speed limit on fruit intake.
yeh but hugely better than soda. A smoothie being blended breaks the fibre content of the fruit. I believe reduces nutritional absorption from the fruit and benefit to the gut bacteria too. From experience hey can be bad for heart burn/digestion depending on your body and what they are had with
Seth you have definitely been a role model for me the last 6 years. I’m proud of you for making this video and showing vulnerability regarding your mental heath. Hope you know how much we all appreciate you and the energy you put out into this world!
Really great video. I had a similar health wake up call after cancer at 30. Post chemo I was obese, had no muscle, depressed, terrible habits. Getting on a bike & eating healthier over the last year & a half has gotten me into the best shape of my life, and your videos have been a big help with that. Thanks for everything!
You’ve inspired me. I’m 40 and two months out from my second hip replacement, and I’m in much the same boat as you were in - plenty of bike riding but a bad diet. Recovery from surgery will be easier if I’m down about 20 pounds. I needed this. Thanks.
I’m 36 and a dad of two, and this is exactly where I was at 6-7 months ago. Now in such a better place and fit and healthy. Tons of exercise and no more UPF foods. Well done Seth, and well done to all those others trying to work on themselves.
“1500 breakfast sandwiches in the hole” that about sums it up for many of us. great. video. thanks for sharing an important topic. On your lipid results, consider asking for APO B test. It’s a better metric for plaque and cardiovascular risk than LDL. can at least get a baseline along with your LDL and other metrics.
as a type 1 diabetic (pretty much genetic diabetes) i would like to offer a little insight on the HBA1C. you noted in your video that you haven't been eating anything with added sugar, however it isn't just sugar that is going to raise your blood glucose level, the biggest thing is carbohydrates in general. this being said I saw at 9:08 that you showed a picture of something you were eating that was largely rice based. rice I have found to be something to make my blood sugar spike and stay high, even if I inject the 'correct' amount of insulin to counteract it. Just wanted to point this out as if you want to drop your HBA1C level, cutting a little bit of rice out of your diet could work wonder. Thanks for many many years of awesome content seth, been watching since I was 11, I'm 18 in a couple of months now. love your work, great to see you making a change for the better
true. fast acting sugar is a problem to manage with insulin. my current insulin scheme reflects that (diferent amounts of novorapid for eating) and still is being changed abut every 5/6 weeks to a new one to try getting my trend of Hipoglicoses and hiperglicoses eps to a more rare state then often
Carbohydrates in general are not bad for you, processed carbohydrates from white rice and white bread are bad for you. Brown rice and whole wheat bread are good for you, they are processed from your body a lot differently because of the fiber.
my mother has Type 3C diabetes so she has both really low lows and really high highs, basically she spikes all over the place. Rice is a big hit for her, you're right keeping that in check is a good idea all carbs really as you said
Thank you for sharing this. It's great that you had this wake up call and are now on the path to ensuring, or at least hedging your bets, for a healthy future. As my 99 year old dad used to say, eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper - nothing after 7pm if not sooner ;-)
Im 41, 5 months ago I got a bad batch of blood test results. Decided to change a lot of my daily life. Changed my diet, started exercising. BOUGHT A MOUNTAIN BIKE 😁And found your channel when looking for some upgrade options. Ive lost weight, gained muscle, feel and look better. And got back into biking, a hobby I never should have let go of.
you are looking a lot better, I had noticed since you started having kids the weight gain. As a father of four and sole-bread winner would highly encourage you to keep focusing on your health via diet and exercise (riding!). It's not selfish, you are ensuring your kids will have a fun grandpa for their kids someday. Keep it up Seth!!!
this is SO interesting! I recently had to get bloodwork done due to an autoimmune disease of the eye (uveitis) emerging, and the results shocked me at how normal my readings were. I don't say this to brag, but rather, highlight the fact that feeling alone is not a true representation of one's health, as I'm overweight and not as active as I'd like to be ( I truthfully don't feel all that great), and I was SURE it was going to be a horror-show when I got the results. Regardless of my better than expected readings, I'm making lifestyle changes to improve my future. I wish you well on your journey! Good on you for taking action :) Get checked out folks, you can never be too safe, and you just don't know till you KNOW.
Genetics can produce some unexplainable results. Most of my male relatives on my mother's side were over 300 pounds with normal cholesterol and blood pressure. One died of cancer in his 50s and the rest lived into their 90s or beyond with no long term health problems.
I highly recommend the carnivore diet. Cholesterol is VERY GOOD for you. Eat lots of eggs and red meat! It is so helpful with autoimmune diseases as they can be reversed
Yes, consider the carnivore diet for a while or autoimmune diet. They both can be very restrictive but both have shown to allow the body to heal because you are removing a lot of irritating foods to someone with autoimmune disease. Mostly, don't give up hope!!!
I am so happy you are bringing that up and be so straight up and honest. With the huge following you have, this will improved undoubtedly the life of many people. I am 51 and had the same wake up call 15 years ago, now enjoying my life outdoor with my kids as much as I can, enjoying half marathons and sprint triathlons. Best investment.
Seth, watching you forever. Each video has something large or small that resonates. This, by far hit home in every way. Ride like crazy, East Coast tech and DH. 59 years old riding with a much younger crew. Had the same markers/issues, changed my diet and focused on sleep and hydration. For me, this path has been more beneficial than Dr. suggested medication. Stay strong!
Sounds like you actually have a good doctor. I had bad cholesterol and blood sugar at one point and asked my doctor why and he was just like “genetics”. I had to do my own research to figure out how to fix it. Next time I came in, blood sugar and cholesterol was in the average range. I need a new doctor.
That's wild. I have genetic high LDL. My doctor threw my on a low dose of statin at the age of 30, I'm currently 42. I should also mention the low LDL diet had more red meat and eggs than I ate on it as acceptable and I wasn't overweight. My HDL and triglycerides were all normal. They knew it was genetic because my LDL looked like I pounded cheeseburgers every day but nothing else including my weight matched my ldl count.
I go to a doctor that told me he sees many dozens of patients a day. It's like an assembly line thing. It's quantity and cash flow rather than quality. He's a good guy but the system is not quite right.
They end up throwing everyone on a Statin because it’s easy, and they don’t have to have the long diet and exercise talk. Also because the medical industry is broken and this is what they are forced to learn.
@@mentalmadness9783 honestly, I haven't had any side effects and my cholesterol came down to normal ranges. I've been on them for over a decade so I'd be aware of long-term side effects by now too.

Hey Seth! I recently had the same thing happen. Back in June I was told I was diabetic, A1c was 7.2% and my liver enzymes were high also. I'm 6ft and was 230lbs. I hit hard on a low carb high fat diet on top of fasting, regularly walking for 10 minutes after each meal and increased my cardio activites; running, swimming, and obviously riding. I lost 35lbs and after 3 months my A1c was 5.6% and my liver enzymes dropped well within normal range. I was hard on myself during that 3 month period, cause these issues run in my family. I was checking my blood sugar frequently and I am still goaling for another 25lbs! Keep up the good work!
You did a great job getting your A1c and liver enzymes down so quickly! Low carb, high fat helps so much along with your other changes. Thanks for sharing your story and a big congrats on taking charge of your health!
I had some blood work in August. I was able to view the results before my appointment. And so like most people I looked up my results and what they could mean. According to a Google search my results were terrible, like I had several major health problems. As if I had heart disease, diabetes and kidney disease all at once. However, when the doctor actually went over my blood test results everything was fine. Not even bad. Nothing to worry about. It's good for everyone to have their results read by a real doctor.
Dude!, I’m so proud of you for making this video. So many people look up to you and for you to admit to having eating and mental health issues is really inspiring. Thank you for showing us you too are only human.
I am also 39 Seth. Have been struggling with some things. Did some tests (pretty expensive ones, not paid by insurance and took a consultation from an expensive doctor, who put everything in place). Four months later I am much better, i lost almost 20 pounds by just adjusting my diet and leaving out things that my body rejects.
@jevgeniardassov I recommend starting with a carnivore diet as an elimination diet and slowly add in foods after 1-2 months one at a tome to see if you’re body accepts or rejects them.
@@Typhoonbladefist i took microbiom test and a proper consultation with a very knowledgeable doctor. Turned out I am lactose intolerant and must also avoid most nuts. Seth, Hemglobin A1C is not only about added Sugars, but in easy terms "insulin response" which results from "easy" carbohydrates like rice and white bread
Any carbohydrates, not nice rice and bread and sugar. If anybody here is concerned about A1C or just general high blood sugar you have to look at all carbohydrates not just simple "sugars". It's all digested as sugar in the end. The lowest carbs per day you can have without more careful research is about 30-50 grams. Do not replace it with bottled oils and margarine please. Use animal fats and coconut oil.
Whole wheat bread typically has a GI of around 65-70 (medium to high GI). This means it causes a relatively quick increase in blood sugar levels. Sourdough Bread (at least those with a natural 24 hour fermentation) has a lower GI, usually between 50-55 (low to medium GI). The natural fermentation process in sourdough slows the digestion of carbohydrates, leading to a slower, more gradual rise in blood sugar.
Thanks for sharing! This has always been a struggle for me. It's always nice to know you're not alone. Great content, as always! Hope you're ok after the storm.
Thanks for sharing this, Seth. I'm 47 and have been facing the same issues on my recent wellness exam. I appreciate you sharing how you tackled it and I'm hoping I can follow your good example.
Not needing your inhaler as much is probably just an overall reduction in inflammation. Maybe related to the dairy or maybe not. A priori it seems more likely to be related to decreased glycemic load and possibly reduction in salt intake. Although if you are lactose intolerant even slightly, then yeah that seems relevant then.
Lactose intolerance usually causes GI issues not respiratory issues. It's probably just from the general improvement in his health, his cortisol levels are likely way down from reduced stress.
Yo Seth! Thanks for this man! I just finished a very similar convo with my Dr. this morning, thanks for sharing your journey as well as the things you are doing. Thanks for being healthy with me today :)

You are absolutely right. Also there is a "modern" trend amongst doctors (less than 10 years) that puts figures into perspective and cools things down depending on the individual.
PLEASE do your research LDL of 135 is actually preferred Look at why did they lower the recommendations the SAME time Lipitor came out 99 is too low for LDL. Look up for yourself. Death is lower when between 135 and 160
True, but even more important is your triglycerides to HDL ratio. My LDL is super high as I'm fat-adapted, but so is HDL, which is good and triglycerides are also super low, which is again very good. The cut-off limit for LDL to not be safe is much higher, at around 190. We have a drug for LDL (statins) that's why doctors are pushing pills for it.
@@infovidasupps8640 The studies you are referring to that show greater mortality at lower cholesterol levels are counting very sick and dying people (end of life) which usually drops your total, LDL, and HDL numbers. It's not even age so much as BMI, once you cross the BMI 30 threshold it becomes exponentially harder to sustain weight loss, because your body will fight you to stay fat. That's why things like Wegovy are literal lifesavers for many people because it allows for sustainable weight loss even in people with very high BMI.

I am not from the U.S., so perhaps I am completely out of the loop, but from what I heard, it seems like large part of american population can't even afford to eat like this, disregarding the fact that lots of them don't even know how to cook. I am from the EU so raw ingredients are completely normal thing to me, but from what I heard this is kind of luxury in the U.S. and it's not even sold everywhere, and then it's expensive.
Sad, but true. Cooking used to be a taught in school, but it is not anymore. Personal Finance is another one that is not taught... so many people don't know how to live within their means and they might skip meals or buy cheap fast food to make ends meet, but there are other factors too at play. It's just all about your priorities and upbringing.
70% of Americans are overweight and 42% are obese. If they can afford to stay that fat they can afford to eat right. We have a fully developed infrastructure and supply chain. Believe me fresh produce and whole foods are available and the poor even get benefits so they don't even have to pay for it. What is lacking is the motivation to prepare whole foods. Worse thing you can do to an American is inconvenience them. I'm happy Seth realized this and not only made such positive changes in his life, but is encouraging others to do so. I only hope they listen.
Same, 62. Since that test, I've lowered my blood sugar through intermittent fasting and tossing out processed and toxic foods. I lost 30 pounds and am riding like im 30! Noooooo nighttime eating. Focus on getting in a 14 hour fast. I like to cap my fiber and protein packed dinner with 85% dark chocolate. Its like a switch went off. I now take personal offense at the food industry thats trying to kill me. MAHA!
Very similar experience for me! It's been soooo worth it. With intermittent fasting I am nice and hungry for lunch and dinner (no breakfast) so I'm quite happy to dig into eggs, meat and veggies. Now I rarely have bread/pasta/rice/potatoes.
Intermittent fasting and OMAD are fad diets just like Keto. But anything that works for you to reduce calorie intake is at least viable. But there's zero evidence that intermittent fasting or OMAD is any better or worse than just reducing calories in general.
@mrvwbug4423 i would disagree. I've finally found a lifestyle that is sustainable, unlike fad diets. When I added foods (proteins, fiber, good fat), my body naturally rejected the crap. I've seen 60 years of fads, this is not one of them.
@@mrvwbug4423 I will disagree that intermittent fasting is a fad diet. It's changing when people eat, which is different from changing what you eat. Seth and others have done what our ancestors did. Eat dinner and stop eating until the next day.

I'm glad the asthma is doing better. Research has suggested a link for diary and asthma, as well as hayfever and eczema. What I would warn though if you have an ICS "preventer" inhaler the effects take up to 6 weeks to work and stop working. The prolonged use is what gives benefits and it may be worth keeping in mind for controlling the asthma longterm
I’m slightly younger than you, but this happened to me during COVID. I slowly allowed myself to exercise less, and started to eat poorly over time. Out of nowhere the majority of what I was eating was horrible for you. I looked fine in the mirror still, but mentally felt awful. It took a year of trying to get back on track. It’s hard!

Good for you Seth. I too had asthma and it went away when I stopped dairy. That was more than 25 years ago and I haven’t had an inhaler since. Keep up the good work. You’ll keep refining your diet as you learn more. I’m 50 and just got back from 1.5 hour brutal climb followed by a double black diamond descent.
The medical establishment is about 20 years behind all the most recent science, which is pointing towards LDL not being as bad as they once thought. I wouldn't sweat the LDL too much.
It is bad and it isn’t. It’s bad if your arteries become damaged from smoking, or consumption of foods that result in the production of Trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO) which are eggs, milk, and meat, including liver, poultry, shellfish, and fish. The plaque tends to build up from the inflammation tending to cause cholesterol to bind to it and cause heart disease. The medical establishment tends to get money from drug companies so they are disincentivized to listen to what we have known for decades on how to reverse heart disease with diet. That and patients tend to not change diets because they are hopelessly addicted to the bad foods.
While there are some studies that suggest what you say, there are also plenty that suggest the opposite. At least for the time being, it's probably better safe than sorry on this.
Nope, it's "bro science" that told you that. I could bet any amount that you never read actual studies (AND understand it) and yet you promoting to go against them.
As a doctor I gotta say you explained the results and your conequences very well. And while that sounds like a good way for you I wouldve wished that you would consider some of the dangers. Religiously tracking your weight and what you eat, counting calories and demonising certain foods as bad and the enemy is a fast way into an eating disorder for many people, especially people who are prone to body image / weight issues (eg a lot of cylists), so please be careful, for your sake, your audiences sake and especially your kids' (!) sake when it comes to the attitude you display towards food and eating, eating should always be a normal reaction to hunger that is not associated with guilt or fear, especially kids and youths are at danger of learning behaviours like this from their parents and developing eating disorders, i see it at a regular basis as a pediatrician. So while of course food should be cooked from ingredients and not come in plastic packaging there is a difference between a healthy living narrative and displaying food as bad / an addiction. Please excuse the rant and my bad english but EDs kill.
why would you be surprised...when the advice in the video wasnt great. dude should drop the smoothies, cut back on simple carbs, focus on whole foods, eat beans, nuts, whole grains, loads of veggies, some whole fruits, lean proteins and make sure he gets a good daily fiber amount in
I wouldn’t label all smoothies as bad. There’s plenty of recipes that aren’t loaded with fruit. But I would still recommend a fruit smoothie over a breakfast sandwich.

Consider cutting out the smoothies as they’re full of natural sugar. Or make your own smoothies but don’t put more fruit in than you would normally eat a day. For example, you wouldn’t eat 10 oranges a day but we can drink the juice 10 oranges in one cup! Too much sugar!

Not that I consider Seth an athlete.
intermittent fasting can lower his LDL?

Congratulations on this one, as a physician I can tell that everything you referred to in the technical aspect of the video is on point. You could not be more right.! I have had a hand full of patients in similar position, or even worse, where the are already diabetics, hypertensives, or their cholesterol is high, that follow the Doctor's recommendations and within months you see a significant improvement. I have seen a few patients no longer need blood pressure or cholesterol pills after loosing 20+lbs, exercise and organizing their diet. As an Aussie, I was wondering what was going on there.
Careful with the smoothies - there can be a surprising amount of sugars in them.
From experience hey can be bad for heart burn/digestion depending on your body and what they are had with
Also chew your smoothies. As weird as it sounds, it will mix saliva in with your fruit to help aid in digestion
@@paulmillband8911 why keep taking processed foods willy nily? Better than soda is such a lazy cop-out

as a type 1 diabetic (pretty much genetic diabetes) i would like to offer a little insight on the HBA1C. you noted in your video that you haven't been eating anything with added sugar, however it isn't just sugar that is going to raise your blood glucose level, the biggest thing is carbohydrates in general. this being said I saw at 9:08 that you showed a picture of something you were eating that was largely rice based. rice I have found to be something to make my blood sugar spike and stay high, even if I inject the 'correct' amount of insulin to counteract it.
Rice is a big hit for her, you're right keeping that in check is a good idea
all carbs really as you said
Would eating brown rice help or is it the same amount of sugar with added nutrients?
Brown rice supports stable blood sugar levels. Processed Foods are the problem.

I recently had to get bloodwork done due to an autoimmune disease of the eye (uveitis) emerging, and the results shocked me at how normal my readings were.

Actually yes, but all breads. Not just white bread.
In fact, just avoid all grains to get that back under control.
Any carbohydrates, not nice rice and bread and sugar.
If anybody here is concerned about A1C or just general high blood sugar you have to look at all carbohydrates not just simple "sugars". It's all digested as sugar in the end.

@@BugTheRootNo, he just needs to stop drinking smoothies. Eating a variety of whole grains is very nutritious.
whole grain bread will spike your blood sugar just as much as a can of full sugar coke. complex carbohydrates is a myth

So true can’t be understated
Not needing your inhaler as much is probably just an overall reduction in inflammation. Maybe related to the dairy or maybe not. A priori it seems more likely to be related to decreased glycemic load and possibly reduction in salt intake. Although if you are lactose intolerant even slightly, then yeah that seems relevant then.
Lactose intolerance usually causes GI issues not respiratory issues. It's probably just from the general improvement in his health, his cortisol levels are likely way down from reduced stress.
Cutting out dairy also healed my need for salbutamol
cutting animal fats is kinda the thing that reduce inflammation a lot, so yeah - cutting dairy is most likely what did the trick (that and red meat).

You should also pay attention of the ratio of HDL to LDL. Higher LDL levels aren't so dire if accompanied by high HDL levels.
You are absolutely right. Also there is a "modern" trend amongst doctors (less than 10 years) that puts figures into perspective and cools things down depending on the individual.
PLEASE do your research
LDL of 135 is actually preferred
Look at why did they lower the recommendations the SAME time Lipitor came out
99 is too low for LDL. Look up for yourself. Death is lower when between 135 and 160
The approach with some doctors is the ratio is important, and neither is bad nor good.
From personal experience, if you haven't figured out diet and exercise by age 40, you're gonna start paying for it exponentially...
Yes, and once you try and course correct post 40 it’s much more difficult to; takes longer to see results and change habits.
Maybe. Also from personal experience of watching my Grandma smoke for 50 years then quit at 65, but continue to eat german food, gin and tonics, and daily walks and swim, lived till 100 with zero disease. Born April 1910, died April 2010. Likely everyone's "change by date" could be different.

You are reasonably in the loop. Most people I know are incapable of cooking anything that was not pulled out of a box.
Most people can afford to eat healthy food, but it's too easy and accessible to get garbage.
It doesn't have to cost any more to eat healthy food than it costs to eat crap. It just takes a little more effort.

Thank you for sharing. I myself I’m about your age with similar problems and delayed a couple years before changing my way of life. Keep with it and good health!
Really happy for you seth... i'm sure that you are also gonna motivate a lot more people to look after their health... much love , keep it up!💪
‘Mental health crisis’ isn’t overused! It’s great that it, and many more disorders are finally more understood along with the associated underlying challenges.
Definatly not. arguably its underused.
The egg white come from a carton box????? Oh my....
Yes, it's not a big deal
He went cold turkey on cold ham.
Hey Seth thanks so much for sharing this personal evolution. This things can creep up on us so this illustrates the importance of having a good GP and going to see them promptly. Saved my life.
I right there with you, all that stuff snuck up on me too, thanks for sharing
One of the reasons it’s so hard is because sausage McMuffins are friggin delicious 🤤 😂
I have a little machine to make them at home 🤤😋
I'm glad the asthma is doing better. Research has suggested a link for diary and asthma, as well as hayfever and eczema. What I would warn though if you have an ICS "preventer" inhaler the effects take up to 6 weeks to work and stop working. The prolonged use is what gives benefits and it may be worth keeping in mind for controlling the asthma longterm
The dairy link to allergies is for pasteurized dairy and may not be a problem with raw dairy.
The trigger for me is dust. But being active helps a lot
It’s hard!
Very inspirational video this time Seth! I'm 46 and have put my health on the backburner for a while.... It was a wake up call to see this! You're doing awesome on the journey brother!
@@user-bc7cb8uu7e look who funds the studies, you’d be surprised.
Nope, it's "bro science" that told you that. I could bet any amount that you never read actual studies (AND understand it) and yet you promoting to go against them.
I gotta try these ham pickle roll-ups
Your storytelling is incredible as always, and your ability to incorporate your hobbies and passions into a variety of topics is inspiring!
This is your best video in a bit. I'm very happy for you. Thank you for a realistic look at this and inspiring us all
I'm quite surprised to see the amount of people giving bad nutritional advice in the comments
They shouldve but this worked on me but might not work on you or everybody else , ive given my bad advice on the comments too lol😅
why would you be surprised...when the advice in the video wasnt great. dude should drop the smoothies, cut back on simple carbs, focus on whole foods, eat beans, nuts, whole grains, loads of veggies, some whole fruits, lean proteins and make sure he gets a good daily fiber amount in
I wouldn’t label all smoothies as bad. There’s plenty of recipes that aren’t loaded with fruit. But I would still recommend a fruit smoothie over a breakfast sandwich.
Always thought that Seth was like 50😂
Honestly, same. Never would have thought he's only 5 years older than me.
@@FlyAndMTB yeah and it all makes sense now, I've always wondered how a 50 year old can jump and control a mountain bike so good at that age.
@@FlyAndMTB me too , we the same age lol
@@Lautere I was riding like that until my late 50s. Now that I'm in my mid 60s I'm a little less daring. I still ride the double diamond trails a few times a year.
Guaranteed someone's watching this video thinking "Great for you, I can't do that because ______________" and they'll give themselves 100 excuses. We all can make excuses, the reality is that you can do it, you need the willpower. It's not easy.
Thank you so much for posting this. I’m kind of where you were times five right now and really scared. This information is helping me a lot. Sometimes doctors will tell you nothing but you’re fine!! thank you for putting this out there.
Thank you for being so open on this!
you look better than ever:)
smoothies are a sugar bomb and not great if you are concerned about blood sugar.
If a doctor told me to avoid red meat, it’s time for a new doctor. Red meat is one of the most nutrient dense foods you can eat. Also, LDL is not the problem. It’s your A1C and triglycerides, which I bet are high.
Thank you
Oh sweet, where did you get your medical degree?
Just came home from a doctor's appointment and found I had almost the same results as you. A little overweight and high cholesterol. I am on this journey too. Thank you for sharing this video, I really enjoy all the other sides to the MTB life.
As a person approaching 30 with a lot of unhealthy habits, I need these kinds of reminders. I don't think I've fully pivoted yet, but I will! Good luck on your journey to being healthier.
Most of the cholesterol issue is genetics. My numbers were good for everything controlled by low carb diet but cholesterol would never come down. Had to take medication for that and now it's in the propper range. I dont like but it is what it is.
How much above did you have?
10:20 old ways drinking a sugar smoothie...
Thank you so much for this video. You are helping so many people with this, including myself.
Thanks for making this video! I'm 63 and I love to snack at night. Even though I MTB and whitewater kayak as often as possible, it's the food and drink that I need to change, and watching videos like this are motivating!
