    Love the Cubs... Spent the early part of my youth in the mid 1970's riding an early C90 around a farm. I would take a gallon of fuel every sunday & would spend hours riding it around at 8 yrs of age . It never failed to start ... Had many tumbles on it , got various burns on my legs from the exhaust when i fell off, but I will remember those times till the day i die. Even used to pull my mate around in a go-cart tied to the rear through mud & bracken. Classic Bikes !!!

    Great video as usual. You mentioned the road speeds in the UK being lower than the US.....I actually think they are quite similar! 60 mph is the limit for single carriage roads outside built up areas and 70 mph is the limit on our motorways. However the limits are widely ignored and not enforced that well......80-85 mph is a common cruising speed on motorways. As such I would say the cub is unsuitable for use on motorways in the UK, although very suitable for use on all other roads here.

      Thanks for the feedback and the info! I haven't spent much time in the UK, but the roads where I traveled had fairly modest limits. I have visited and driven a fair amount in France and Spain, and their limits seem quite low (e.g. 120km/h or lower) compared to most places in the USA. Texas, and particularly the Houston area, is known for Autobahn-type speeds whether legal or not. Our "Beltway-8" (a.k.a "Sam Houston Tollway") is our local speedway where 85-100 mph is common, even though the "limit" is 65 mph. Many of our motorways (highways) have limits of 75-85 mph, and motorists typically drive 15-20+ above the posted limits, so I wouldn't attempt to ride the Cub on those roads. Most of our rural highways have limits of 65-75 mph, and they have a hard shoulder that can be used to allow other cars to pass... so I don't mind riding the Cub there.
      I am planning to take a 1500+ mile trip from Houston, TX to Hutchinson, KS at the beginning of September on the Cub... we'll see how that goes. So stay tuned for the road trip videos! Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

      @@QuasiMotard That's interesting. Sounds like Texas has pretty high speed limits. All of my driving in the US has been in the Pacific Northwest and Alaska where the speeds seemed more reasonable.....the biggest danger seeming to be 18 wheelers doing 80 mph+ on normal 2 lane highways then proceeding to pull off crazy overtaking moves! That just doesn't happen in the UK as all trucks have a 56 mph speed limiter fitted by law. As a side note I'm a bit of a Space Flight enthusiast and was wondering when you're out and about in Houston if you ever come across any of the legends of NASA? .....I think a few of the old Apollo guys still live in and around Houston, although I did look on Google maps and realised you live on the other side of Houston 50 miles from the JSC so maybe not!

    I wear a safety yellow helmet and vest when I ride my cub. I wear it on my Road King as well. It has helped a great deal. Make sure you have your brights on as well.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      Agreed! I always ride with my high beam on during the daytime to add extra visibility. I don't usually wear hi-viz colors except for my rain gear. I do have a hi-viz yellow ADV helmet, but most of my other road gear is white, grey, or black in color. The bright colors are a very good idea, for sure. However, I could probably wear a suit covered in Xenon flash tubes set on hyper-flash and these Houston cagers probably still wouldn't "see" me. 🤣 Cheers! --QM

      Thx for the feedback! It's comments like yours that keep me motivated. There are lots of naysayers and haters out there that like to tear people down. This is my hobby and I enjoy sharing the information with other enthusiasts. The main intention for these videos is to share the experience and to help others in their motorcycle or accessory decisions. They don't make much money for me (just a few dollars each), so it's really not worth my time to record, edit, and post them if I was looking at it from a business standpoint. • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  2 місяці тому +1

      In these older videos, I didn't have a good phone mounting solution. In later videos, you can see the Quad Lock system that I have mounted on the left handlebar and a Garmin GPS mounted on the right, both on RAM 1" ball mounts: ua-cam.com/video/O1KlRldtRQ4/v-deo.html
      The pieces for the Quad Lock solution are listed below:
      - Quad Lock case (phone-specific, shop at Amazon or www.QuadLockCase.com )
      - Quad Lock waterproof wireless charging head: amzn.to/3VF8iPQ
      - Quad Lock vibration dampener: amzn.to/3VDZ9Hb
      - Quad Lock RAM ball adapter: amzn.to/4bkqVOE
      - RAM 1" short double-ball arm: amzn.to/4bkqVOE
      -RAM 9mm angled ball adapter mount: amzn.to/4bkqVOE
      I used two angled ball mounts so the windscreen would be evenly mounted. The second mount allows me to attach a GPS or action camera easily. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    If you want top speed you need to do the rear sprocket. Look at Kitaco brand. They have all the sizes.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому +4

      I wasn't interested in top speed as much as I wanted to calm the motor at 55-60 mph for longer trips. However, I am editing another ride VLOG from a couple of weeks ago when I took the Cub up on the highway and I had an interesting result. I pulled out from behind an A-hole truck driver, downshifted to 3rd gear, and accelerated away. I forgot that I left it in 3rd gear and then proceeded to run it up to 65 mph and hit the rev-limiter (that's the first time that I've hit the limiter). I switched up to 4th and continued up to 71-72 mph. I don't need to run it that fast, but I was surprised that it got up there at all! I will try to post that video in the next couple of days. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Another interesting vid. But it amazes me how much time you spend riding in the left lane... In Europe, we can get fined for hogging the 'passing' lane.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  4 роки тому

      Thanks for the feedback! Remember that our road rules are opposite of yours in the UK. Here in the USA, the rightmost lane is the slow lane, and the leftmost lane(s) are for faster traffic or overtaking. Several other EU/UK viewers have commented about lane positioning as well... those same rules apply and are typically opposite of the UK's conventions. However, one point is different regarding the motorcyclist education/training here in the USA vs. other parts of the world (?) is that we don't ride in a strict position in the lane (e.g., only the left or right wheel track).
      We consider a standard lane of traffic to have 3 tracks (1, 2, 3 or left, middle, right) and the prudent thing is to VARY your lane position to maintain visibility for other motorists... and to avoid ruts or obstacles in the road, of course. Our cagers here are fairly careless drivers, and they don't maintain their lane position very well (distracted driving, operating their mobile phones instead of their vehicles). We are also not permitted to filter through traffic (lane-splitting or lane sharing), so motorcyclists here don't ride the "inboard" portion of the lane near other cagers... that's a recipe for disaster. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @orical2832
      @orical2832 4 роки тому +2

      Thanks for reply, I'm Europe mainland, so drive on the right as in the USA. Generally everyone keeps right, only using left to pass, unless of course its peak hour traffic when all lanes simply bog up... :-(. In UK, they drive on the left, and I find UK very nice to drive in as most drivers very considerate - let you in/out if indicating or joining etc. They seem very safety focused. Keep up the great channel.

    Would you consider doing a video on the key fab and adjusting the alarm volume. The update on my Super Cub is it's been in the shop 3 times. Each time the bike would not start. Twice they have charged the battery. I expect more problems since nothing has been repaired. Honda Corporation Motorcycle Division service SUCKS as well as the Honda shop where I bought my bike. My Super Cub is less the 3 months old and having starting problems/battery problems. The thing is when I'm riding my bike I really love my 2019 Honda Super Cub. Robin

      Wow, I'm sorry to hear that you're still having problems with your Cub! That really sucks. I haven't messed with the Smart Key options or alarm settings yet, but I had another viewer ask about the emergency start procedure (without the key fob). I will see if I can work that into my to-do list for my Cub. I have the Honda service manual, so all of the prodedures are listed in there. I plan to take off the handlebar cover, leg shield, and other items to install my USB charger and driving lights for the front forks. When I take everything apart, I will try those maintenance alarm and key fob tweaks to see if I can figure it out for you. Cheers! 👍 --QM

    Does the gear help with first? I find first to be too low as I often have to shift mid-corner while starting from a turn.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      Yes, it definitely helps with the lower gears, particularly with the short first gear. It feels like this might be a better final drive ratio for in-town riding because the lower 3 gears pull longer and are more useful... less "rowing" through the gears. It doesn't help much with the 1st gear downshift... that is still abrupt, so I just wait until I'm almost stopped and switch down before I drop my left foot. --QM

    Hi, nice Cub. What part of Brazil is your wife from. My wife is from Curitiba. I love being there, so many bikes on the road. Even my wife, who hates motorcycles, rode one back in her college days. Nice channel you have here.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому +1

      Thx for the feedback and the compliments! My wife is from Araguatins, Tocantins, which is located in north-central Brazil about 550 km south of Belem. It's not very far from the Amazon region, so it's REALLY hot and humid in that part of the country. We try to go back to visit for every 2-3 years and stay for a couple of weeks each time. She just returned on August 3rd from a 1-month visit there.
      Motorcycles are the cheapest form of transportation in Brazil, along with the VW Fusca (Bug/Beetle), so they are very prevalent. My wife doesn't like motorcycles (or Fusca's) much either... maybe because they remind her of cheap transport... dunno. We are planning to retire there in another decade or two, so I'm looking forward to exploring the country by motorcycle.
      It was a big surprise to her that people here in the USA ride motorcycles for pleasure and by CHOICE instead of sheer necessity. We've been married for almost 19 years, and she still shrugs at me when I head out on my bikes instead of taking one of the cars for my work commutes or road trips. There isn't a single motorcycle-loving gene in her body. 🤣 Oh well, at least she lets me enjoy my toys and hobbies without giving me too much grief. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому +1

      @@VeeDubJohn Yes, we plan to retire in southern Brazil... preferably somewhere in Santa Catarina, like Joinville or Florianópolis. I'll settle for anywhere that has at least 3 seasons. Araguatins has only two seasons: hot and humid, and slightly less hot and rainy. My wife calls it "fim do mundo" because it takes forever to get there by plane, bus, and taxi... I just refer to it as "Hell" because it's so hot! 🤣 The people from that region are acclimated to the heat, and air-conditioning is a luxury that most people don't enjoy or can't afford (fans are more common, but they barely take the edge off of the heat and humidity). All of my ancestors are cold-climate people (Dutch-German-Irish), so I'm not built for that kind of heat.
      We are planning to take an extended vacation (3+ months) in Goiânia in a couple of years, so that will let me test drive the weather there to see if I like it or not. We will probably venture further south into Campinas, Curitiba, and Porto Alegre for a week or two in each location. I'm definitely looking forward to doing some ride VLOG's from Brazil! - Kitaco wide chain guide at front sprocket
    - some nice retro pipe (Kitaco Classic, Takegawa Pshooter)

      Is this not the 60th anniversary model? I have seen a few red/cream color variations in other markets, but this is the only color option we have in the USA for now. Maybe the 2020's will have a different color option. Importing motorcycles into the USA is usually too much of a hassle and costs much more than the bike is worth. Our DOT regulations, state titling, and insurance can make it nearly impossible to register a vehicle here that isn't a mainstream import. I have seen that screen in our aftermarket shops only just recently. When I purchased my Cub (one of the first in the USA, reportedly the first in Texas), there weren't any accessory parts available for the bike. So, I ordered all of my upgrades from Europe and Japan instead. I might try another screen option for my Cub before my 8000-mile trip around the USA in July. However, I'm not sure if there is anything that will work without being overly-large or creating too much buffeting at helmet level. The issue with screens for the Cub is the close seating position near the screen... there isn't much room for the screen to rake rearward, so it needs to be nearly vertical (a.k.a barn door). --QM

      When riding (or driving) motor vehicles on surface streets in town, there is no legal delineation between "fast lanes" and "slow lanes". That logic (and law) only applies to highways and interstate travel. I'm an ex-LEO, so I know a thing or two about the law. 😉
      Regardless of lane position, I was operating legally and within the posted speed limits. If the other drivers insist on speeding and drivng recklessly, then that's their prerogative. It's everyone's responsibility to drive/ride defensively, and that's what I practice daily. --QM

      @@QuasiMotard - obviously we differ in our approach to riding and driving. For me, what is legal and what is not, have little influence on how I drive. It does not matter that the law says that I can and should ride my bicycle in this or that lane when the driver of an 18 wheel truck for whatever reason decides to make a sudden left or right turn. My legal rights means nothing when I am heading for the hospital.
