    Thanks again for all of your product reviews and opinions! I ordered the Givi for wife's Super Cub with confidence because of your efforts. Hopefully #70 is having a better day. The heavy mounts with the curved section to absorb some stress, plus the complementary design sold me. Between you and K22 I am prepared for this challenge.

    I watched this just shaking my head all the way. How you kept your cool as much as you did is beyond me. To have parts missing is bad enough but for the manufacturer to offer such a poor method of attaching the screen to the arms is strange. Fortunately as an engineer, you can work around it but your average Joe wouldn't be able. The missing rubber grommet is not so easy. I was going to order from the exact same guys in Italy, So pleased I didn't. I'll await your follow up with interest. If I was there I'd buy you a beer to console you!

      I'm still waiting for that beer, Martin! I finally received the second Givi kit, but the mounting solution wasn't any better. I used the screen for one road trip and then reverted to the Asahi screen instead. The Givi caused too much buffeting (as you mentioned), and mine was so crooked that it triggered my OCD into overdrive. So, I pulled a Marie Antoinette with it... off with its head and off to the spare parts bin it went. Cheers! 😉👍 --QM

    Another example of mediocracy becoming the new norm of acceptable quality! Last two weeks: Brand new Tag Heuer limited edition Monte Carlo delivered in "almost working" condition-- refund! My brother-n-law's new hot tub, broken twice in a week, then had to be replaced... However, your video's are top notch! Very refreshing.

      Thanks for the feedback! It's unfortunate that quality control and pride in workmanship have fallen to such lows over the past few decades. Givi's quality has really declined lately... I used to love their products and recommend them to other people, but not anymore. I've had similar problems with the poor fitment of Givi's top cases and other accessories, so this wasn't that much of a surprise. Maybe their illustrious employee, Quality Control #70, does all of their product inspections? 🤣👍 --QM

    Update to QuasiMotard's nightmare fit. Received my "Kappa" version of the Givi Screen, which incidentally appears identical in every way bar the name. No missing parts for me (aren't I lucky) but, like QM, the threads weren't cut into the plastic receivers. Speaking with Kappa (and I guess ditto Givi) today, they confirmed that the factory have never tapped the receivers on the arms as the plastic is pliable enough to take the supplied fitting bolts by just offering them up and screwing them in. I did manage to drive all the supplied bolts into the plastic receivers first, before mounting the arms to the Cub. If you want to see how "not" to film the assembly then check this link out. I'll warn you though, don't expect QM's standard of cinematography or indeed engineering skills! Click here: ua-cam.com/video/Sb_Ja5b9eWQ/v-deo.html

    I would use an impact driver with a hex-head tip and drive them through. Been there done that. Assembly the frame to the screen, then attach to the bike. Go to "Harbor Freight" get a rubber washer set, doesn't everyone have that, then use 4 rubber washers that match, job done. Sorry in advance if I have "offended" anyone..... Just my solution...

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      No worries... any potential fix is good information. I thought about using my Ryobi hammer drill and running the screws in, but that plastic is glass-reinforced ABS (similar to Zytel). If you force that stuff too hard or fast, it can fracture or heat up and get "gummy"... ask me how I know. The obvious solution here would have been to include self-tapping screws or press in threaded brass inserts. I understand the lack of inserts (e.g. cost savings and preventing potential over-tightening by the end-user), but including the wrong screws for the application is just... screwed!
      BTW... did I mention that "Quality Control #70" needs his anus removed? Maybe with a rusty spoon or a dull farm implement. Here's the job genius: Count to 4 ... 1,2,3,4 ... now heat-seal the bag. Was any of that lengthy training confusing? Pop quiz for QC#70: How many windscreens does Givi manufacture that have 3 mounting points and 3 grommets? [... Jeopardy theme playing in the background...] Grrr... what a doofus. 🤣 --QM

      @K22MDL 5 років тому +1

      You don't need to. The plastic holders are soft and it is easy to screw the bolts in, you just have to do it BEFORE you mount the screen. I did all 4 by simply holding the holder in my hand, using a T-bar Hex key and drove the bolts in, holding the driver straight. All went in easily. Then assemble the frame and drive the 4 bolts home on the "pre-tapped" plastic holders. Simple but Givi/Kappa should tell you this in the ever-so bad fitting instructions. To see how I fitted mine, (ignoring the crap filming) see: ua-cam.com/video/Sb_Ja5b9eWQ/v-deo.html

      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому +1

      Thx for the feedback! I ordered the manual via the link on Honda Powersports page that redirects to HELM (factory-authorized reprints). The price is very reasonable at $39.95, and it takes a week or two to ship throughout the continental USA. Both Honda and the HELM site recommend getting the Common Service Manual in addition to the bike-specific service manual, but that's up to you. Note that the description says that it's a reprint and that it might be in a binder... that's not the case here. This is a printed and bound manual just like any other manual... it's a high-quality book and not a cheap knock-off.
      This is Honda's link/info page that refers out to Helm: powersports.honda.com/Experience/Article.aspx?Id=090111c081102a2a
      Here is the link directly to the C125A manual on Helm's site: www.helminc.com/helm/product2.asp?Make=AHC&Model=C125&Year=2019&Category=1&class_2=AHC&mk=Honda+Motorcycle&yr=2019&md=C125A&dt=Shop%2FService+Information&module=&from=result&Style=helm&Sku=61K0G00&itemtype=N 👍 --QM

    Fastenal is a good source for nuts and bolts, sometimes Ace can also sometime have the grommet to fit. then there's always the big box stores. what's become of the Ryker? take the mounts off and put the shield on (loosely) then mount the mounts back on the handlebar. hope it helped.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому +1

      Good tip on Fastenal... I forgot about them, but I have used them in the past for odd parts and fasteners. We have one about 7-8 miles away, so I'll have to try that. We had a Sears Hardware store that had TONS of fasteners and grommets, but they just closed shop a few weeks ago.
      As for the Ryker, it's still in play! I haven't been riding it as much over the past few weeks due to work constraints and other trips on the Super Cub (e.g. MotoGP at COTA). However, I am tentatively planning to take the Ryker on a serious road trip next week up to Springfield, MO for the Spyderfest meet/convention. I'll be motocamping for 3-4 days up there and living off the bike for a while. That round-trip will be about 1500 miles by itself. I might take a detour on the way back and swing through the Ozark Mountains and then head over to Oklahoma City area to visit family for a couple of days. That would push the trip mileage into the 2000+ range. I'll be sure to take plenty of video of that trip and the Sypderfest meet! --QM

    I dig this bike, I had several versions as a kid, think I got a old 65cc version in a collapsed building, if no one has stole it. & know I have a few older engines in my attic. plus a nearly new leading link front fork.anyway on the bolts, I would use a cut off disc & put 3 little slots and taper end to make it like a TAP, so it would self cut threads. next on fairing, it needs a rubber or foam seal between headlight in my opinion? a person with a full beard, if no windshield, beard flaps over shoulder, but windshields not angled or sitting right, it causes turbulence in front of riders face, & beard spins & is over face & in eyes, very aggravating, & have to braid beard & double it up, which is a pain for a quick ride.a couple big questions, on Honda page if scrolling, there is a pic with buddy seat? is it offered or? any larger options for gas capacity? I know I once had an aux tank, don't remember what happened to it, not seen in 30+ years. also any type of sissy bar available? with buddy seat? I always preferred to strap a duffle bag & backpack to a sissybar.on your luggage rack, was it too narrow? or possible fender rolled too wide, & fender needing to be closed more? long time ago I built custom Harleys, & had to do more than my share of fabricating, and making arts fit.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      Thx for the feedback! There is a lot of room for improvement with this screen. I'm not sure how the sealing around the headlight area would work due to vibration and such... I'll know more when I can get it fitted to the bike. I've already ordered my second screen and mount kit from another reseller in Italy (via Ebay), so we'll see how that plays out.
      The Honda sites show lots of pictures and options that may not be available for particular markets (e.g. the Honda USA site shows the EU version with the EU lights and blue rear rack, which is not available here). I have seen the passenger/buddy seat (and footpegs) on the Asian sites, so I know that they are available. US DOT regulations prohibit the rear footpegs (and thus, the passenger) because they aren't mounted on a fixed part of the frame (swingarm is a moving part). The auxiliary tank isn't offered on the street-going Cub, but it might be available on the Cross Cub if that ever becomes a reality. I'm sure that a custom luggage rack could be found or fabricated that has a sissy bar or larger surface for mounting roll bags and such... it's just a matter of time or determination to find/make one! --QM

      thanks, & for the swing arm bit, my old 1973 Harley Super glide had what looked like a second set of shock mounts, but were for passenger pegs, I did end up welding a bracket to frame to mount, as I had issues when I changed my exhaust with clearance. but figure out seat, and peg mounts, I may want & I can build my own sissy bar, luggage rack, & look at the aux tanks, lol. im not familiar with other countries e-bay so will have to do a little looking, & maybe try to find me one of these bikes. lol. keep up posting about, and be safe out there.

      🤣 ROFL... you're not the first person to mention that! That's flattering, because I think that Dave Ramsey is much more eloquent. He's certainly more successful than I am, so I'll aspire to achieve his success someday. I had never watched his channel until another viewer/commenter mentioned that I sounded like him.
      As for the Cub accessories, I don't recommend this Givi screen because of the fiddly mounting and questionable quality control. The Asahi Short Visor that I installed and reviewed is a much better piece, IMHO. I haven't searched for any offroad or knobby tires for my Cub yet, but another viewer sent me some links for alternative tires that he installed on his Cub... I'll reply again separately with that info.
      The ideal luggage and pannier solution for the Cub has been a quest for me, but I think that I've finally settled on a solution. The Kijima rear carrier and Kijima side supports (from japan.webike.com) pair up nicely with the DrySpec bags (from TwistedThrottle.com). I have the D38 with the D20's on the sides, and also the D28 of I need to carry more (or scale-down the D38). If I'm just running around town and need light storage, then I use a Ogio Stealth tailbag strapped to the rear rack.
      I'll reply back with more details and some product links. Cheers! 👍👍 --QM

    Did you ever get yours mounted up? I had similar issues with the unthreaded plastic bits but muddled (cranked the hardware hard and made my threads without the cutting slot) through. Fortunately my inspector did their job and all parts were present. Satisfied with the outcome. Lines up nice and looks good. Solidly mounted.

      No, I still haven't received the missing grommet. I will probably order another mounting kit from Ebay so I can finish the job. I'm glad yours mounted up ok! How do you like it so far? Do you notice any wind buffeting at the helmet? A couple of other commenters have mentioned that the wind seemed to get worse after mounting the screen. I was concerned about that because of the proximity to the rider's position, it's pretty tight fit on the Cub between screen and rider. --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      You might be surprised at how a windscreen helps rather than hurts. It's a bit counter-intuitive, but the windscreen can reduce the aerodynamic drag of the rider's profile... as long as the screen itself isn't too large and becomes less "slippery" than the rider's profile. I noticed that my PCX150's can maintain highway speeds and fight headwinds better with a modest-sized screen than with the little OEM flyscreen. However, a windscreen won't help you with hills... gravity always wins. 😉 --QM

    Do you think you will get more mpg with the screen or less mpg ?

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      I won't know for sure until I install and test it. Generally speaking, if the windscreen has just enough height to push the air stream over the rider's torso and it isn't raked too steeply (e.g. angled back slightly and not straight vertical), then it will make the bike slightly more aerodynamic by pushing the airflow around the rider's profile. Anything that reduces drag and moves air around the rider more efficiently will improve the efficiency. A typical motorcycle and rider's Cd (coefficient of drag) is basically 1.0 (e.g. a brick wall) at air speeds above 50 MPH... that's why "tucking in" helps top speed runs by reducing the drag on the machine.
      My PCX150's have seen increased MPG's with the addition of aftermarket windscreens. The OEM unit was too short and directed all of the airflow directly at my shoulders and helmet. After I installed the larger windscreens, the fuel economy and top speed jumped up (~8-10 better mpg and ~3-4+ mph top speed) just because of the cleaner airflow. I will be sure to post my top speed and efficiency results after the windscreen is installed so we can all benefit from the numbers. --QM

    Poor quality control by Givi. As a last resort could you not drill a hole right through the unthreaded section and then feed a bolt through with suitable nuts and washers to secure it. Grommet sets are sold at Amazon for $10.

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      The unthreaded screen bosses can't be drilled through because the back of them butts against the support rail... they slide up/down and rotate to give the screen a free-floating fitment. The plastic isn't too hard, so it won't be a problem to thread them with an appropriate screw or tap set. I tried a couple of local auto parts stores and a Fastenal (they have nearly everything), but I couldn't find a match for these grommets. I am expecting my second mounting kit to arrive sometime soon... I will post an update on this video to let everyone see how the Givi screen works out. --QM

If not, then I'll purchase another mounting kit from eBay and hope that it takes less than 3 weeks to arrive. Even if it's missing pieces, I can mix-and-match to get a complete kit. 😉 👍 --QM

    In my opinion it is a too high.

      Yes, it ended up being too tall. I received a second screen after a long wait, and the mounting situation wasn't any better. I used the Givi screen for one long roadtrip, and then I reverted to the Asahi Short Visor windscreen instead. Cheers! 👍 --QM

      Thx for the feedback and advice! Great catch, sir! @Martin Lynch is a subscriber of my channel and we have been communicating about the Givi vs. Kappa screen solution. I am still in a holding pattern on my Givi screen until I source the missing grommet for the screen/mount. Martin mentioned that he has some wind buffeting from his screen, so I may experience the same issue. If so, then I plan to cut my screen down a few inches to keep the helmet in clear air and just let the screen deflect wind around the torso and shoulders. The screen itself isn't too expensive, so I don't mind modifying (and potentially damaging) it; however, the shipping times and costs to the USA are the killer. --QM

      Yep, it looks like the same part... even the part numbers are the same. Givi probably OEM's that for Kappa or vice-versa? Is it the same company under a different brand name? I remember some of the Kappa Trekker cases that were sold under the Givi brand here in the USA. --QM

      Well, I've had good luck with them in the past, as far as quality and suitability is concerned. This mounting solution definitely sucks, period. Givi is certainly on the expensive side for most of their gear... that's for sure. These pieces are surprisingly inexpensive coming out of the Italian marketplace: the screen was only $45.40 and the mount was $41.71... however, the shipping was a whopping $85.48 for a 3-week slow boat from Italy! That's why I'm so annoyed... getting a replacement means more time and money to fix their F-up!
      The Givi USA tech support that I spoke with today advised that each market is a franchise, so they operate under their own rules and "quality" standards. He didn't have much hope for me resolving this issue. Mr. QC#70 can kiss my annoyed American a**... --QM

    Next time fix the windscreen on the support first .. then you fix the support on the handlebars. And you should fix the Windscreen in 3 points if you've missed one rubber grommet just to see how it is looks like.. Common.. you know at the end you will be the one that goes around that missing rubber grommet.. right? Send the Video link to the guys that sold that mounting shit to you. Let them see what you've got.

      I sent all of the pics and a link to the video to the reseller in Italy, but they never responded. Givi USA said that they couldn't help because that kit isn't available here yet. So, I ordered another kit from a different reseller on Ebay. Even if the second kit isn't complete, I should have enough pieces to put one together. I'll post another video of the complete setup and my opinions about the screen after it's installed. --QM

    • @QuasiMotard
      @QuasiMotard  5 років тому

      @@gattonpc We can't get the separate/specific parts for that kit here in the USA yet. I looked for a replacement grommet, but the Givi part is very specific on the inner diameter and shoulder width... I couldn't find anything to fit. The support bars should work fine... it's just the missing grommet for mounting the shield securely and without breaking it... wind pressure and turbulence would break the plastic without that last grommet in place. --QM

      No way, man! I'll keep it for my wall of shame, if nothing else. I ordered another kit, so this will be used for spare parts. I might cut down one of the shields to half-high and/or have it tinted to match the bike... we'll see. --QM

      Ahhh, the C3... what a great little scoot... the Igloo cooler on wheels. I have one of those in my stable as well.
