  • This video wll help you to change the key battery on the Astra J, Corsa and Meriva Models. This is a very easy job and you just need a small screwdriver and a new CR2032 key battery. You do not need to reprogramme the central locking afterwards. We hope this helps you to change the key battery.

      Hello. I didn’t make a video because these keys are a complete nightmare to open up. Unlike the flip version, the only successful way is to melt the outside of the key with a soldering iron all the way around. Then the two halves can be split, but it’s still trick to get the circuit board out without damaging it

    Handy vid, helped me crack open a 2014 Zafira key and replace battery for a mate who had only been able to get in by a key in the door in the year or so she'd owned it.

    Would you know where to get the best price for a replacement key for this type? Only have one key now as main key is lost and I only have the spare fixed blade key to hand.

      I would find a local car key man. The best way I have found to do this is by asking your local garage who they recommend for car keys. They usually have a number of someone they use

      Hi Karen, this is a very tricky job if you don't have the equipment, it's not like the flip style case. We do offer a repair by post service, give us a ring if this helps. 01522 514141

      @@TheCarKeyMan is it possible to open this type of key? I wanted to switch it to the flip version, i changed the flip version myself on the main key but this is the spare and as i share a car with my partner we were going to keep a key on each of our keyring
      I bought another key flip replacement thinking i could just open this and take out the PCB and key much like i did on the main flip one, but i cant get this one open at all?? all i can do is get access to the battery
      what would i need to open this to get the actual key and little pcb out

    I have two keys, a folding and a blade one. Never managed to remove electronics from the blade one. Seems like I need to cut it open or melt it, but there's no safe way to do it. Whoever makes this kind of key, needs you to buy the whole thing for a profit. That's awful.

      Hi Ron, I started to make this video, but it is nor straight forward. The circhuit board is moulded into the case, it takes about 20 mins with a hot soldering iron to gently melt the case from around the electronics, so it;s not really a home project

      @@TheCarKeyMan Hi I was not sure whether it was moulded in or glued. I have been an electronics engineer for many years so quite proficient with the soldering iron. I would suggest that an old penknife heated over a gas flame would do a better job than a soldering iron. I would also warn people who intend to go down this route to handle a new case before they buy one. I had one bought for me. The one bought for me was totally rigid with absolutely no movement on the buttons and would never have worked.. The only way it would have been of any use would be to have the stem cut by a locksmith and use it to unlock the door should you accidentally lock your other key inside the car

    Hi, Please could you tell me how do you dissemble this type of key to transfer the electronics to a flip key?

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  5 років тому

      Hi Les. Ok, so there are a couple of issues here.
      Firstly, with this type of key, we haven't found an easy way to open them They don't just 'snap' open like the flip keys. When we've removed the circuit board, it's been a slow job of melting the plastic with a soldering iron and carefully splitting the case.
      So it's possible but a bit of a pain.
      Next, when we tried to put the circuit board into a standard flip key case, ( so basically convert it to a flip key) it didn't fit!
      There may be a special case available on eBay, but we're not sure, sorry.
      Is it your only key?

      @lesrogers7310 5 років тому

      Life Of Danny - I'm afraid I have no clue how to get this apart without the possibility of damaging the electronics. As The Car Key Man has explained, the case for these keys is moulded & cannot easily be disassembled. You would need to cut/use heat etc to separate the two halves to get the electronics out.

    • @TheCarKeyMan
      @TheCarKeyMan  5 років тому

      @@dannysmediachanneldanny2317 Hi, ok so the blade is moulded into the old case. So unfortunately you'll need to get the new blade cut. I'd get it cut before you start opening the old key. Hope this helps
