Not really Barcelona will jill them in the counter because the defenders are out of position and the midfielders in defense has no chance against our attack
I am an Inter fan and I can say this tactic is only effective in Serie A because this league is very focused on tactics. If the coach says to mark a certain player then it will actually continue to be marked until it is finished . This is the basic of Inzaghi's crazy position switch tactic to disguised opponent marking and create a space
I can tell ya one thing u are a great observer..serie A definitely is the league of tactical plays and focuses mostly on counter attacks with beautiful one twos and crosses
Even crazier is that video was vs Atalanta where Inzaghi clearly planned that to beat and confuse their man-to-man pressing all over the field. Genious, won 4-0
Inzaghi is the only real revolutionary of this decade. I hope he gets his Champions League. Easily the best team in transition. They are incredibly fast and synchronized to get the ball up
@0000DN0 no italian team is that fast in transition. And yes, in tactical terms italian managers have always been part of the forefront, specially in space awareness and players' versatility. But Inzaghi applied those concepts just great

this type of tactic has kinda been thought of for a while, in the last minute of a match u can sub your gk with a ball playing midfielder to keep chances coming. But it’s really risky which is why it hasn’t been done yet
Inzaghi is only few coaches beside pep who innovative tactics and new way of football..or at least use classical tactics with refined touch but this is impressive as it's looks like .. amazing stuff .. inzaghi is so underrated.. dont the get enough appreciated from the footballing world ..
Great work, finally someone made a good analysis on Inzaghi's tactics. One thing to mention is the wingbacks are always acting as wingers at the start of any counter attack, where they end up having scoring chances especially in Dumfries case.
I followed Juventus's team from the late 90's and watched the forward trident of Zidane/Del Piero/Inzaghi. Naturally, I was interested to see what his brother Simone was like. Unlike Guardiola and Conte, never would I have guessed that he would become a good innovative manager. Happy to see it.
Limone was quite similar to his older brother in terms of playing style - that one-touch play strikers that hang around opponent's offside trap. It's just he wasn't as ecstatic as his older bro. He was tall at that time period for a striker (Limone was 185-186 cm, Pippo around 5 cm shorter) but not as strong as his height suggests, although he often used that this height advantage to his favor.
3:12 the centre back who's running behind the ball is not the left centre back, but the right one, and that means that the right centre back is running in the position of a left attacking wing. Even more crazy
Amazing video once again, very intriguing tactics used by a brilliant manager. I also feel Gasperini has a shout in being super attacking. Can you make a video on him?
You explained very well and in detail Inzaghi's tactics. I would also like to see Ruben Amorim's tactics, especially now that he will go to Man United.
sommer is pretty good with his feet, which is helpful to counter the high press most teams are doing currently, but yeah onana's long passes were a great addition
I have a tactic that is undefendable. One guy will dribble and the rest of the team will form a circle wall around him and move together so opponents cannot get the ball.
It's funny you say that. I've been thinking about this for years and a few months ago I finally saw a team try it. They lost possession after 5 seconds when someone slid through the wall, won the ball and had 10 wide open teammates 🙂
You dont have stamina to do this. Once you reach final third, you need to open space. You dont want your shot blocked by your own team mates. This where disaster started for this tactic.
A reminder that this style of play works because they have the right players to do it. You can't use CBs like that unless they are technique gifts like Bastoni/Pavard and they are training Bisseck/Palacios to follow that path. Before that they had Skinirat who was a great defender but poor with his feet, noone thought Inter could play without him but here we are. Same for Calhanoglu and Mkhitaryan who trained themselves to defensive skills.
I have seen a lot of good tactical videos, but this one is pure class and huge quality for free. Im really impressed with Inter‘s Tactics, but even more with this 15min Masterclass of insights and visuality
Great to see managers being innovative and having the balls to adopt such tactics in the cut-throat world of football. The technical skill of these CBs is incredible too, to be able to pull of such neat touches and passes.
Everything here makes so much sense. It's almost natural if you get it. Like if you know your teammates you almost don't even have to explain what the next move is if you understand the basic concept. But as an opposing player who is in the middle of it, it's difficult to realize at least for a split second who is coming at you and what they are trying to exploit until it's too late.
I think I saw a glimpse of this tactics in Arsenal vs Chelsea last weekend on Sunday ... When Saliba delivered a cross like a winger in the final minutes of the game
Basically what teams did in the 50's like the famous Carlos Alberto role. Its quite funny to see multiple teams today play the systems of the 50's and utterly dominate with it.
Because everybody has “forgotten” them and that means that nobody expects these kind of “shots” aka tactics which makes the team unpredictable which makes this everything WORKING AND USEFUL. You are welcome
As and Inter fan i Say Inzaghi's tactic Is fantastic to see and very effective! He started using It to avoid the Two most common italian defensive tactics: marking evey player everywhere on the field, or mantaining compact defensive Lines, closing spaces
Ruben Amorim has a similar tactic but the two wingers and number 10’s. His center backs at sporting were good w the ball on their feet. Wingers always out wide giving a pass option. The two midfielders always center giving pass options. The number 10s dropping down to break lines and release on the wingers or switch sides.
The video maker said, long term work on physical and mental. United have zero player with such quality. Inter players are all top players since age of 17. I have been playing football manager since 98/99. All current Inter players are high on potential ability since very young age. Salah was good with Basel. Do you know who was Basel GK that time? Second....versatility. Inter players are all versatile. Can play multiple position without any big problem. Ruben Amorim will fail. He doesnt have what he needs to play his style.
There are a bunch of ideas here which aren't unique but the fact they're used together all at one time make this the truest resurrection of the principles of total football.

this my exact formation structure in fm24, instead of midfileder backing up the last defense line i use defensive wingback at both flank and using libero at the mid of defense line
Hansi do buildups too but he depend on how his opponent plays. What differentiate Hansi from other coaches is that he uses multiple tactics to achieve one single goal like launching of offensive attack, when his opponent press high he either uses pivots to help or number 10 player to assist in receiving the ball or he use flanks to attacks by his fullbacks. If opponent doesn't to do pressings, Hansi wants his CBs to launch long balls either to number 10 or one of his front attackers. By the way Hansi prefer one of his CBs to be right footed(RCB) and LCB to be left footed.
As an Inter fan, I have never seen Inter playing such a great football. Inzaghi's system is just crazy good. One of the thing that always amazes me is the amount of chances we are able to create having basically no good dribblers in the team (expect for Marcus Thuram), indeed according to the data we are one of the teams in the Serie A that dribbles less.
Now I know why I am doing so well with inter Milan in FC25, whenever I play against my cousins I would play Inter and Thuram would almost always get a hat trick, now I know what makes Inter's tactics so good
You can almost see Inzaghi himself in each of the players’ movements. He truly instilled the art of positioning to his players - allowing them to exploit the opposition’s blind side.
Interesting video although I feel like a big part of Inter tactics is still missing/neglected. Let's look at Di Marco, I believe he's the key figure in the team as he's involved in most of goal opportunities. When you look at his positioning, movement, he often moves to the middle of the pitch or even on the forwards line.
IMO, this tactic is only able to be Applied if he knows his players so well, understanding after years of being together. His knowledge about his players is so deep. A new manager in a club would never do this tactics
What's the difference between relationism and total football? the total football played by the Netherlands and Ajax teams of Renus Michels played the same way with fluid positions where you would see Johan Cruyff come down all the way to the CB position and you would see CB's play as strikers, wingers play as midfielders and defenders, etc. and with the goalie playing like a CB at times? Is relationism just a part of the whole total football style?
As an inter fan since 7 years old I liked this analysis but you forgot to mention something very important since the 2019 season we’ve been playing like this first with conte and when that mercenary left (thank god) inzaghi played the very same way I hope we get to Munich, AMALA SEMPRE !!!!!!!!
As an attacker knowing who ur man is makes it so much easier to mark and notice when ur in the wrong position or whatever, if suddenly u see a different man close to u you’ll panic and think where’s my man and you’ll start looking around confused, even if u know this is their tactic it can mess up up cus ur teammate might follow their man to their new position and leave someone free or if they let them run they’ll be available for a pass in space momentarily
It seems like zonal marking just shuts this down though. Instead of worrying about the opponent, just hold your shape and you'll have the favourable matchup (eg. Your cb defending their cb who is shooting). Hold formation, show them the wing, and don't over press the defensive ball player. Do those 3 things, and the other teams constant switching probably turns into more of a liability
the most incredible thing is inter is in the last 3 spot of dribble for game in serie A in the last 3 years and n 1 for goal...
