I like the way you explain everything. And the way you work is very clean and all the tools and materials are immaculately in place. Congrats my friend I hope you get a lot of subscribers doing this.
You have by far the best approach to building cabinets. They look super strong and well built. I've watched other YT videos on this very build and they all make it really complicated and have you believe you need specialty tools to build them. They way you do it is exactly how I'm going to build mine. Well Done Sir

Great series and perfectly timed! About to build a complete set of kitchen cabinets, and your videos are the best out there. Question: At 56:55, installing undermount slides to the cabinet, do you have a spacer between slide and cabinet side? I'm guessing so, but you don't say and I can't see. Im.guessing your face frame overhangs the side, but also unsure what the face frame width is and how it's positioned. Thanks!
Fantastic. Building my first set of workbench cabinets and this just so happened to be in the front page on UA-cam. Thank you for posting. Great video.
That model Castle is the way go! yes the floor models are simi auto faster but the table top has shorter length pocket that I like better, I (we) use three of these in my shop.
The main confusing part for me is figuring out which saw to use and the bits, but I’m not working on a project any time soon so I’ll figure it out eventually. Thank you for making this video, hope you do more tutorials like this when you have time 🫶🫶
Matt, what's the purpose of the drawer dividers underneath each drawer opening? It seems as though the drawer slides support all the weight of the drawer, and with the face frame front, backing board, and top/bottom stretchers the cabinet box should be rigid enough.
This is awesome information. by the best breakdown of steps i've come across. is there an app / free program that given the cabinet dimension, will give you material needed?
Hint: Quit making intergrated toe kicks. Make straight boxes, and make separate leveling base. Get it level and attached to the bottom plate of the wall. Then if you’re not building for the shop, you can face it with 1/4-inch plywood. Build your carcasses out of plain plywood, or even melamine, and use 1/4-inch prefinished plywood as end panels where the ends show. And there are cabinet shops who will sell you finished doors and drawer fronts, in your choice of woods, and some of them even sell prefinished face frame material to match. Costs a bit more but saves you hours of time.
Love this series❤ I’m only 8 minutes in but I need deets on the fence. I’m a newbie. Ive made a few decent pieces around my home but definitely amateur. I’ve noticed the Calibration on both my table saw and miter saw are slightly off. I’ve searched YT for help but nothing really simple yet detailed.
The first set of Cam you made when you set the draw slides I noticed they were set back even with the plywood, but you did overlay doors and drawer fronts.
I never planned on making cabinets but my local cabinet guys are all either retiring or closed their business. This makes me realize how cheap they worked lol I’d have to charge a lot more than they did. Looks like a ton of work and lots of specialty equipment and tools compared to other trades.
The part I always have trouble with and I've never seen anyone address it, is properly sizing the drawers with slides so it's not too snug or too small. I measure every time and I seem to always be too tight. Also the other thing is how do you ensure that your cabinet doors have the same gap on the sides? I haven't done drawers or cabinets yet for my workbench I built and I'm still trying to figure out how to get the reveal the same before I do them.
For the cabinet door frames you're using hard maple lumber, right? Was the presurfaced as well? Is that a thing? What was the thickness of the door frame lumber? I think you'd mentioned the inserts are 1/2". I apologize if this info was in the video...i've scrubbed through/watched a couple times and seemed to have missed that bit of info. Thanks!
How did you measure your face frames? How did you line them up when you glued them? How do you get a straight line with your router table when theirs nothing to index the fence in reference to the bit?
Presumably your face frame is thicker than the 18mm ply you used for your cabinets. So how do you deal with the difference between the cabinet base and sides being recessed from the faceframe? This is when having doors and not drawers
@@MWAWoodworks sorry for my poor explanation. What I am trying to ask is whether the face frames sit flush with the inside of the cabinet or is there a recess behind the face frame to the cabinet walls and base.
Thanks for a comprehensive video, really enjoyed it! Noticed at the end the ease of drilling on the wall , are you sure thats concrete 😅? Also why not use plugs?
@@MWAWoodworks …when using the side mounted glides, the drawers are 1” less than the opening, giving 1/2” on each side. For example , the under-mount glides, what’s the drawer size for a 14” opening ?
So you size drawers differently with undermount slides because you measure from bar to bar on the slides. The bars are what the drawer sits on. So you can use different thickness plywood for the drawer sides and end up with different size gaps on the sides. I think thats probably confusing if you've never used them but it's hard to fully explain in a UA-cam comment 😂

Both are great. The other guy's approach is a bit on the comic side , but they know what they're doing for sure. I love learning new things every day, thanks to this guys. PA 'LANTE AMIGOS.

Instead of building one 30 inch cabinet and one 18 inch cabinet, combining them into a 48 inch cabinet, why not just build one cabinet that is 48 inches with a partition at the 30 inch mark? This makes more sense, because you use less material. This is especially true when using material that costs more per sheet (the pre finished sheets) when compared to other sheet material.
You can do that! Unless you want to configure your cabinets to fit a different space, then it's nice to have the option to combine two 18s or two 30s or just a single.
Plus 48” cabinets just get too darn wide. As far as material, you may be able to nest the pieces together for less scrap than you would if you had to use 48” pieces.
@davidcase4600 I have never run into that problem, with either face frame cabinets or frameless cabinets. It really depends on your construction methods and skills to find which works for you.
Nah you can do it for about 3000-4000 (painting equipment included) it will just take you more setups. Have you seen the cost of cabinets lately? I’m not factoring time into the equation.
@Navy1977 It’s possible, but chances are slim. Plywood prices are currently skyrocketing. The quality of materials you’ll use will more than likely surpass big box store bought. If you have a family, young children, or other responsibilities, purchasing instead of building might be the more practical choice. However, I’ll share this, the sense of accomplishment from building something yourself is truly invaluable.
FWIW the quotes I've seen to do custom cabinets for my size kitchen (10 upper and 8 base cabinets) was 45k-50k just for the cabinets and install, no countertops or lighting or backsplash or vent hood, just cabinets. These are custom cabinets made of plywood, not mdf or particle board like you would buy from a big box store. I can buy all the materials plus a $15k CNC to cut it all out for me and still be thousands and thousands of dollars ahead not considering my own labor to do the install 😁
as a rough average about $300 - $350 per cabinet, so maybe $5.5k - $7k. That's with plywood at $100 a sheet. Also depends on type of hardware and painted or not.
Hardly. You can build these using a circular saw, small pocket hole jig, and a drill/driver. Add a cheap contractor saw to rip face frames rather than buy presized from big box. Woodworking is cheap to start, and let's you expand as your skills expand. And yes, it is always cheaper and better to build your own!
