Hi Eric sitting here in my kitchen watching you perform your everyday tasks. And the way you set up your camera, you would think I was standing beside you like an apprentice. as I am a disabled person, not able to do these things,I feel as if I can. Thanks. For giving someone like myself and others an in depth look at what you do. appreciate it. Billy.
i know im asking randomly but does any of you know a trick to log back into an instagram account? I somehow lost the login password. I love any tips you can offer me!
@Zahir Eduardo i really appreciate your reply. I got to the site thru google and Im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will get back to you later with my results.
Been stuck home with Covid for the last two weeks luckily not sick worst symptom is loss of smell and taste. Just wanted to thank you for making the videos learned a lot.
Absolutely fabulous job you did on that car! One comment you made, however, I would disagree with: that if you could do the job, anyone could. Just watching you work, it's plain as day that you bring a world of experience, patience, and a refusal to be defeated to any party that you attend. Those qualities are rare. It's also dismaying to see the complexity that manufacturers are building into their cars that demand the skills of a first-tier tech on what could have been a run of the mill job. Great work!!!!!!
I wouldn’t say this Jon requires the skills of a “first-tier tech”. A little patience, some common sense and a bit of research and almost anyone with a reasonable mechanical inclination can do this job. It’s a free bolts, a free clips, a couple hose connections and you’re done. It’s not that complicated.
A small rock took out my wife’s condenser grill on her 2016 Accord and yes it was a very pricey repair and worth every dollar spent when we’re driving a black car with a black interior during these 90° days….Very nice repair you were thorough and complete never losing or damaging anything.
Thank you for the video. You saved me hours trying to figure out how to get to the condenser on my 2011 Equinox. It was almost the same. The two connections on the condenser both went in from the side, like the bottom one in your video. I didn't have to do anything with the hood latch and all of the bolts holding the bumper and the condenser on were accessible with a sock without removing anything extra. Thank you SO much for making and sharing this.
Thanks for the video and especially for the specs. I’m doing this job this weekend for a friend on a Torrent. Looks way easier than I had expected. That bumper comes off scary easy.
Haha. Love the work with the quick draw Impact Driver! Newest opening: "Hey there viewers! Welcome back to the South Main Auto Channel! If your new here, welcome to our channel! I am your host 'Quick-Draw Eric O.' "
I have a guy that lives across the street from my shop that everytime he parks, he yanks on his e brake so hard it shakes the car lol. I mean he rips that sucker. It cracks us up everyday. Thanks for the video
Thank you for your video. It helped me so much with my son's car. Somebody backed up into his car and the horn punctured the condenser. I would have spent all day trying to figure this out. This was such a great instructional video.
LoL, when you give us those little clips with the Jeep lady, you really make it feel as though we're literally in your shop. That's why your channel is so damn good; you give us all the car wrenching we want, on a more personal level. Glad the pup got to make a guest appearance!
You are a great mechanic... most get frustrated and start ripping stuff off with force; hence, the reason mechanics and body shops ship stuff looking like it was in a car accident (i.e. crap won't go back together when forced, tweaked, bent, etc.)
Love that A/C charging machine ! Seems like that dial thermometer is very responsive and high quality. I was noticing the drive by traffic, seems busy for your small town Avoca. Excellent review to the task of replacing a simple and fairly inexpensive part showing where all the labor hours come from.
Great video! I just used this to guide me in changing the condenser on a 2008 Equinox, which theoretically is the same vehicle as the Torrent. Those little body panel clips that hold the corners of the bumper cover are a pain. I ended up breaking one just like the mechanic who previously worked on that Torrent. The upper left bolt on the condenser was really snug like yours, but I had good access to it without removing the headlamp. By the way, the HF a/c gauge manifold that I bought from HF was a piece of junk...two leaking hoses and a screw that fell out of a knob.
Good to know if I ever encounter this issue. Unfortunately, my 2006 Pontiac Torrent's issue is the A/C compressor is inoperable and quite a process including expensive. Since this is my winter vehicle I don't need AC just heat. I have a primary car if I do need AC. Very informative video.
Eric O. Love the videos, gives me some weekly video entertainment. I was laughing at your comment about "feeling like a cave man for using a wrench". Down here where I work on cars in the Caribbean I don't get the luxury of power/air tools. Everything is done by hand. Includes pulling engines with 2x4 and chain. Keep up the great videos.
I tend to use dykes and slotted screw driver also to remove plastic push pins and Christmas tree clips they tend to always work better then Clip tools I agree with you Eric O they get tons of dirt and mud in them around me that cakes on and the heat here makes them instantly brittle @SouthMainAutoRepairLLC
SATAMAN Schmidt Hey there Denis its smokin hot up here today about 78F . If it ever hit 104 the country would just shut down. Were not setup for them temps WOW.
Nice job and great video. Summers are so short up there. As a kid growing up in the north we never had a car with air conditioning. Although there were days that I can remember I wish we would have.
South Main Auto Repair Here's a true story for you. When I got my job at STMicroelectronics the Relocation Department sent me a list of things I should take care of prior to moving to Arizona. First on the list was to sell any car without air conditioning as they would be worthless in Arizona. Here we don't care if the brakes work as we consider those optional, but the AC, that damn well better work.
Wow What a great video. I have the same Torrent with the same problem. I just don't think I have the tools and space to perform the replacement myself so I may need to take it to a local shop.
the torrent is a great suv i owned one a torrent 2008 whit the 3.4 and i loved it sadly i had a accident whit ti and it was totalled i miss it great power for the fuel consumption
Yep summer is in full swing. Going to see a lot of this at your shop I assume. I don't know how hot it's up there, but here in Missouri it's gotten close to 100 for the most part.
You need two (or two sets) of those clip removal pry bars, one for doors and near paint, and the other thinner set for when you’re serious and want to get under things
Love your a/c machine. Here at the MTA we use recovery machines and separate vacuum pumps. But then again a 45 ft coach takes 28 lbs of 134a. So I guess it wouldn't be practical
***** I know, I was just at my brothers removing a CAT from the rear of a tour bus and saw that the capacity on that one was 32lbs. Kinda got a chuckle outta that. Pump sat right below the crapper.
We recently bought a fully automatic AC thinger at our workshop, it has a 26kg capacity(57.3lbs), it's pretty nifty. I'm not a huge fan of the control interface however, it doesn't easily allow you to choose how much oil and dye to inject without some silly workarounds. It's a Waeco ASC 3000G
As a suggestion, maybe you can take apart an engine and explain what each part is and how it functions? ETCG has a vid like that, but I'd like to see your version of it. Keep up the great videos!
nikejustdoitish Nah I just do things that come in, that is more his gig. I run a full time shop and just don't have a lot of fart around time like that is all.
Seems like all I have been doing lately is ac work and removing front facias, I think we are running the state of ga out of compressors for Hondas, did a volvo compressor today, yep to do the dryer front clip had to come partially off
What always puzzles me is if you watch a majority if not all of the A/C condenser replacement videos you never see any connectors that have to be undone for the front airbag sensors? These cars(Pacifica, Torrent and Town & Country) all have airbags for straight on collisions so where are the sensors? Most are located in the front bumper but yet when Eric O removes it, you never see the connectors being disconnected. Am I missing something?
They are usually on the frame look for bright yellow connectors and wires. You can have a minor collision that crunches the fascia without setting off the airbag. The sensor detects deceleration not being crushed.
23:36 LMAO! I have a couple of them in my neighborhood. It's like the throttle cables bind so it only goes full throttle. When is the Sube head gasket job next Eric? Still lovin your vidz. Keep em coming! Thanks.
Hello good day to you sir, I replaced a ac condenser on a Chevy equinox, but I’m having issue with one of the hose line, it’s leaking because it doesn’t sit flat inside the hole, any suggestion of how to get around that problem? 29:56 if I double the o ring, will it cause an issue ?
I am surprised you didn't clean off all the oil on the other rad. From the view underneath, am I correct in saying one of the tyres was on backwards? the tread patterns are the same but face different ways
When people pull away like that from a shop or garage (or friends who works on cars) you have to get to wondering, do they drive like that always? Or do they just decide that if something is going to go wrong, they want it to go wrong near where it can be fixed?
hi Eric, another good ac video really its fun to watch Mr. O with all his ac tools. Q: is the ac gas been change to r134a with all car maker or there is another new one coming up and is r12 compatible with r134a. and how about the new condenser it coms with vacuum on it and sealed or not and last any news about the AUTEL scanner and what model you looking at. thanks a million for all you share cheeeers.
This may be a dumb question(s) for anyone to answer: I noticed the condenser had some type of paint or coating on it. Compared to the bare aluminum stock condenser, would the coating hinder the heat transfer? Do some radiators come coated as well?
Darren G. No such thing as a dumb question, they paint radiators black becuase it helps with heat dissipation a thin layer of black paint will increase the effeciancy of the unit. Same reason they paint formula 1 and nascar engines black if those engineers are doing it it must work right.
hen I worked Avis Rent a Car years ago we had two enginneers come in to talk about concerns with the current design of vehicles. The only thing we could think of to ask at the time was who was the moron who decided to only use three screw in the window lift motors on Chevy Corsicas. The complaint was the window will not open or close. Their response was the higher ups said they would save 1.5 cents a widow. I wonder how much it cost them in repairs as we had hundreds of those cars system wide.
.03 a piece adds up over 30 million cars. But then they usually go out AFTER the warranty expires, so the repair falls on the customer AND GM STILL KEEPS THE MONEY AND MANUFACTURES ANOTHER MOTOR AT A REDUCED PRICE, JUST SO IT CAN BE MARKED 30%.
Hey I have a question, I'm replacing the condenser, compressor, dryer, myself. And what I need to is after I install them. I was told I have to put oil in the system for the condenser and dryer. If so I much would I have to put in and what if i used the r134 cans with the oil mixed in it. Would i have to recharge the system with all the r134 with the oil or just one of that then just plain r134? Its is a 2005 chevy equinox... the same as the Pontiac in this video. Oh yeah I also have a vacuum pump and going to do that before I recharge the system
Hey South Main Auto Repair, where are you located? I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox that has 140,000 miles on it. It's a couple things that needs done on it, like in that one video you've done when it was a lady with a equinox, and she needed her windshield transmitter replaced, rather than fixed. Something is wrong with the driver side windshield wiper, it won't move at all. and some other things as well. I will have a list of things when needed
I understand that the spec says add 1 ounce of oil when replacing the condensor, but since it has obviously leaked some oil, how can you be sure that adding 1 ounce gets the total amount to the correct amount?
i had to get my 2006 Pontiac Torrent 3.4 l v6 Engine rebuilt cause of a blown head-gasket and i got all brand new Sensors replaced last week, but i am getting a check engine light code P0171, lean on Bank 1, do you have any idea's that may help to find the problem. after replacing all of the sensor's, i am getting that code of P0171 i erased the code last week and today the light on the dash came back on. it is the same code P0171.
On some cars, like my 1999 Grand Prix, you have to pull the radiator to get to the condenser. GM in their infinite stupidity, put the mounts and bolts on the inboard side of the core support. It would have been much simpler to just put the condenser in front of the core support, where maybe just removing the bumper cover (easy) would allow quick access to it.
Good video, man your guys stuff seems to rust out quick. I'm in Delaware and we don't seem to suffer quite as bad. Did something happen towards the end of reassembly? You're demeanor seemed to change.
Steve Rothenberg mmm... don't recall. A lot of times making a video may take me all day because I have to walk away so much to do other work, so it could be the difference between the beginning of the day and the end of the day is all.
The only thing worse than leaving a design in such a way that requires a wrench for some part that could pretty easily be designed around it and not need one is having that but also having on the same job or worse yet the same part, steps that can’t be done with a wrench
Hey when did you start building SUVs at your shop. Don't worry all new cars are a pain in the bum to work on one small thing turns into learning how build cars trucks SUVs in your own shop
nice video Eric i love A/C work. i always ilked those Torrents but that colors is just nasty nobody in theirs right mine would ordeded a vehicule with that colors unless they got it for dirt cheap hahahha
Yo Eric! Did you go to school for this? Or did you learn at your dad's shop? It'd be interesting to make an intro video talking about yourself at a more personal level, your training, your credentials, your goals, your family etc... Just to draw us viewers closer... I think that's a touch that most other mechanics are missing that could add lots of depth into the relationships... Js
South Main Auto Repair amazing, especially dealing with codes I'd swear you need intensive formal training... Guess the old school ways still work. Well you keep making these awesome vids mate I'm learning a lot so thanks again for the time.
From my experiance as a tech, Those Denso Replacement condensers are pretty good fit, Along with Hella/BEHR, Nissen are okay but not great. But Those (HC/CARGO) i have never a seen worse product.
Eric, I was wondering why you recharge from the high side? I have been doing it from the low in my limited time and education. I really enjoy the vids, Thanks for sharing, A former NYer, Ken
kenskip1 I have always done it like this because the low side is for vapor/gas only, and usually it is charged with the system running. If you wanted to charge through the high side you would use liquid and do it with the engine off. This way here when you are charging it is forcing it through the orifice and causing it to turn to a vapor on its own. Just how I have always done it and that way I don't have to worry about flooding the compressor with liquid is all.
WOW what a pain in the .... The one who design these cars, sure do not make it easy for fixing things. I'd like to kick them in the peanuts. Very informative. Thanks . I just subbed
The Torrents and Equinoxes from 2005-2009 were made in Canada. Engine made in China and transmission made in Japan. I have a 2008 Equinox. My condensor leaked all the freon out too. I watched your tutorial, which I commend you on. You are very thorough in telling everything you're doing. Thanks for this great video. Where is your shop, btw?
That particular condenser has the drier integrated. Besides changing the drier isn't actually required, they tell you it is, but it isn't really, well you'll know when it is and isn't when you work on this stuff every day.

@Zahir Eduardo it did the trick and I now got access to my account again. I am so happy!

@Adrian Andres no problem :D

Thank you for your video. It helped me so much with my son's car. Somebody backed up into his car and the horn punctured the condenser. I would have spent all day trying to figure this out. This was such a great instructional video.
Eric I'm impressed. Seems you need to be a body and fender man to be an ace mechanic these days, great job. No extra parts I see.
LoL, when you give us those little clips with the Jeep lady, you really make it feel as though we're literally in your shop. That's why your channel is so damn good; you give us all the car wrenching we want, on a more personal level.
Glad the pup got to make a guest appearance!
Darren G. JEEP LADY!? Pfff she is a Honda girl.
The lazy that guns it out of the bank?
Darren G. Sheba had a tough decision at about 10:48. You could see her deciding to either stay with Eric or return with The Boss! Great Video!!
Darren G. Oh haha thought you meant Vanessa
***** She knows I'm the boss :)
Your right on the dementia stuff Eric . My mom died of it a few yrs back . Its horrible . smh
Lost my mom last year. She was seeing and talking to old friends long dead.
Good one Eric. I was amazed at how little rust was on the underside of hat Torrent.
You are a great mechanic... most get frustrated and start ripping stuff off with force; hence, the reason mechanics and body shops ship stuff looking like it was in a car accident (i.e. crap won't go back together when forced, tweaked, bent, etc.)
NETWizzJbirk Oh man I have seen my share of "accidents" roll in from other shops let me tell ya
Love that A/C charging machine ! Seems like that dial thermometer is very responsive and high quality. I was noticing the drive by traffic, seems busy for your small town Avoca. Keaton Massie Oh sorry if it was offensive :/ I am just so use to using power tools I forget that it is not always an option.
Ha Ha Gotta love the 'loose juice'. The joints I hate are the corroded ones you have to chisel apart!! Another good video Eric.
That's a good looking backup! Great video as always.

Another great SMA production , nice to see your production assistants as well. 👍
Steve Rob You mean the boss...
***** at the 44:15 mark he hooks up the fog lights. You must have viewed the short version :)
Steve Rob Hi Steve, things still cool up there in THE GREAT WHITE NORTH. It's only going it get to 104F today. I think a cold front came through.
SATAMAN Schmidt Hey there Denis its smokin hot up here today about 78F . If it ever hit 104 the country would just shut down. Were not setup for them temps WOW.
Steve Rob The A/C was so cold, he took a short nap!
Another Great video. If the people that designed these vehicles had to work on them I thing they might do things a little different . Good job!
***** Yeah right I wish they worked on them
I think that should be mandatory when designing vehicles including the engine compartment.
Nice job and great video. Summers are so short up there. As a kid growing up in the north we never had a car with air conditioning. Although there were days that I can remember I wish we would have.
DC Rickerson A lot of people just go with out if it breaks and the car is old.

You and Mrs. O are a Great Team!
Awesome Video!!! No broken off bolts on this one looked to have a little less rust them the Pacifica
Paul Morales just a tad less...
Wow What a great video. I have the same Torrent with the same problem. I just don't think I have the tools and space to perform the replacement myself so I may need to take it to a local shop.
Pontiac Torrent - near the end of Pontiac. Much better than the Aztec it replaced :) It be chillin again nice work.
Very true - lol
the torrent is a great suv i owned one a torrent 2008 whit the 3.4 and i loved it sadly i had a accident whit ti and it was totalled i miss it great power for the fuel consumption
Nice work as always Eric and keep up the good work!

Yep summer is in full swing. Going to see a lot of this at your shop I assume. I don't know how hot it's up there, but here in Missouri it's gotten close to 100 for the most part.
Corey Toolen Been a cool summer so A/C season is pretty short here in the shop
very good instructions step by step, will be taking mine apart this weekend, thanks.
The lady in the green Dodge normally would stomp on it, but now that you told us about it she didn't do it, must have been a cop near by
You should see a clean spot for the bolts to the latch. The fact that you take videos on many services, you have the proof on what you have done.
Great vid as usual. I used to live upstate so I know the salt rot. Thanks again Eric.
Good info, I might be doing this job on my mother in law's equinox next week.
Those do have good A/C if everything is right. My 2005 Equinox and my parents 2005 Equinox both worked good.
You need two (or two sets) of those clip removal pry bars, one for doors and near paint, and the other thinner set for when you’re serious and want to get under things

I really dig the color of this ride.
Why didn't you spray some cleaner on the radiator where the AC had covered it with oil? Would have helped future troubleshooting for visible leaks.
yea I would love to talk to the engineers on so many cars especially vws.

You should throw a party now that you went over the 1M views. Also getting the other party ready for the 10K subscribers soon..
gianfrancoa Hmmm been thinking of the special video or something along those lines.

jarin wilson I am starting to. Just got some new ones friday too. :) New Tools!
South Main Auto Repair hhhmm, what brands?
I got the Fuel (Milwaukee 18v ) 3/8" gun and cordless ratchet :)

Darren G. Its also a Teflon coating so dirt and corrosion are highly eliminated they did use epoxy for a while also
I would of added a slight bit more oil to compensate for the leakage all down the front of it.
whatever happened to the part 2 video of that Chrysler Pacifica?
I am facing a issue of 2015 Nissan Sentra Radio not turning on even i checked fuses
looks like the fog lights were not reconnected Eric
Step One: Remove front 1/3 of car...
Beat me to it 😆
@@ionracer24 yeah by like 3 years. Lol
@@klwthe3rd It's a very large 1/3 ! Lol
Agree and remembering to put it said 1/3 car back to together.
hen I worked Avis Rent a Car years ago we had two enginneers come in to talk about concerns with the current design of vehicles.
Not quite like doing that on an Old GM B-body is it?
Hey I have a question, I'm replacing the condenser, compressor, dryer, myself. And what I need to is after I install them. I was told I have to put oil in the system for the condenser and dryer. If so I much would I have to put in and what if i used the r134 cans with the oil mixed in it. Would i have to recharge the system with all the r134 with the oil or just one of that then just plain r134? Its is a 2005 chevy equinox... the same as the Pontiac in this video. Oh yeah I also have a vacuum pump and going to do that before I recharge the system
That 12V electric impact do you choose its low power on purpose so you dont strip the small stuff you use it on?
Bruce Ismond Yep you got it. It gives enough jiggle with out breaking things.
Do you work on any fog light problems on Chrysler 300c
Hey South Main Auto Repair, where are you located? I have a 2010 Chevy Equinox that has 140,000 miles on it. It's a couple things that needs done on it, like in that one video you've done when it was a lady with a equinox, and she needed her windshield transmitter replaced, rather than fixed. Something is wrong with the driver side windshield wiper, it won't move at all. and some other things as well. I will have a list of things when needed
I understand that the spec says add 1 ounce of oil when replacing the condensor, but since it has obviously leaked some oil, how can you be sure that adding 1 ounce gets the total amount to the correct amount?
i had to get my 2006 Pontiac Torrent 3.4 l v6 Engine rebuilt cause of a blown head-gasket and i got all brand new Sensors replaced last week, but i am getting a check engine light code P0171, lean on Bank 1, do you have any idea's that may help to find the problem. after replacing all of the sensor's, i am getting that code of P0171
i erased the code last week and today the light on the dash came back on. it is the same code P0171.
Front pocket tip, another classic move.
Great video again.
Js
affane78 Oh got ya... no I am just self educated from growing up around it my whole life.
South Main Auto Repair amazing, especially dealing with codes I'd swear you need intensive formal training... Guess the old school ways still work. Well you keep making these awesome vids mate I'm learning a lot so thanks again for the time.
If the post offices up there are as bad as they are down here, I'd peel out of their parking lot full throttle just like she did, lol.
***Classified*** Haha no she does that everywhere here. Just drives pissed off all the time lol
South Main Auto Repair Man, I'd just love to see some video of her doing it. She's not an older lady with a mullet, is she? lol.
My age... but with a power mullet haha
***Classified*** Haha hey ya never know...
I think she's flirting with you Eric. @@SouthMainAuto
From my experiance as a tech, Those Denso Replacement condensers are pretty good fit, Along with Hella/BEHR, Nissen are okay but not great. But Those (HC/CARGO) i have never a seen worse product.
gmtgmt123 Yeah it seemed to fit pretty good
When you took the bumper off you called the dog as backup ,in case there was a big fat lion hiding inside the bumper right?
mr2law Yes just because you never know
Great job again
Eric, I was wondering why you recharge from the high side? I have been doing it from the low in my limited time and education. I really enjoy the vids, Thanks for sharing, A former NYer, Ken
kenskip1 I have always done it like this because the low side is for vapor/gas only, and usually it is charged with the system running. If you wanted to charge through the high side you would use liquid and do it with the engine off. This way here when you are charging it is forcing it through the orifice and causing it to turn to a vapor on its own. Just how I have always done it and that way I don't have to worry about flooding the compressor with liquid is all.
Eric, makes sense. Have a good lunch! Thanks Ken..
kenskip1 Wait a minute... how did you know I was eating lunch?
Want me to tell you what you had? I have many contacts.Wipe the ketchup off your lip.
HA! I did have ketchup too... ! What the ...
Nice job....as usual.
Eric oh what was the ambient temperature when you filled the AC and got it to 32°. Love your videos been a fan for quite a while.
WOW what a pain in the .... The one who design these cars, sure do not make it easy for fixing things. I'd like to kick them in the peanuts. Very informative. Thanks . I just subbed
J Doe Hah thanks :)
Great video. I'm getting ready to replace one in a 2011 equinox. Is it about the same procedure as this one?
Probably not
what about a Pontiac G6 AC condenser replace
Did one today on a newer equinox. Same setup. Put a touch of heat on those bolts and they come right out.
***** Oh ok, yeah the stupid things are lock tighted right in there...
Ya I don't get that
Didn't want them to fall out I guess
Those Pontiac engineers sure knew how to abuse plastic.
hoppes9 Fantastic plastic :)
They took it off the sides and shoved it under the hood
WELL DONE BUDDY IT EXATELY WATH I AM LOOKING FOR THANKS !!
Just curious - what is book time on this job?
GM Don't want their shtuff to fall apart. Fun. The audio took a crap at 31:30.
Those clips with the ears make good use of those flat nosed pliers
Eric, How come you did not have to change the accumulater drier or receiver drier? THANKS FRIEND [Ron Cach]
Wondering the same thing?
That particular condenser has the drier integrated. Besides changing the drier isn't actually required, they tell you it is, but it isn't really, well you'll know when it is and isn't when you work on this stuff every day.
