I just finished the audio book, and I gotta say, I understand changing things because they wouldn't translate well from page to screen or to cut down on runtime, but it seems like the writers intentionally changed things and cut out short, simple explanations for the sole purpose of having the movie make less sense than the book.

I loved it right up until the ending, which completely sucked out all the wind. Turns out the books are much better, and James Dashner has the distinction of being the only YA author I actually enjoy, unless you count Harry Turtledove's Crosstime Traffic series.
@@jaffarebellion292 if the books were better, then I don't want to see the movies. The books were absolute trash, and not just because author kept saying "lifeless body" to mean an unconscious person. The plot for the second book was contrived and could easily have been resolved if the characters had just talked, and book three was forgettable. Maybe read the first book because it was easily the best of the trilogy, but I don't think it should be high on your list.
@AnotherLinuxDude The only book I absolutely despised was the third. It had a few good moments going for it, but as a complete story, the whole thing just dragged. I really enjoyed the first and did find myself getting into the second, but the third just killed the trilogy for me. Undoing Gally's death was where I think I just checked out. There were issues with the second, but the characters were developed in interesting ways and the worldbuilding, while requiring a hefty suspension of disbelief, was good enough to get the job done, and didn't take away from my investment in the characters. TL;DR: I reallycenjoyed the books up until the third, which had its moments but ultimately couldn't resist descending into utter stupidity.

yeah, i enjoyed the first book. the concept is cool, but once you're out of the maze what's the point you know? i was there for the maze, not the other stuff. funnily enough I watched cinamasins first and it's sin stuff, watched the movie, then I read the book. strange order but made the book pretty cool with all the additional context.

@@SnifferSock I read this series for the first time at 27 & really enjoyed it. It's a compelling series & I'd say the books are much better than the movies (though I like both). Also I lied how the prequels continued to add to the story & change your understanding of the events of other books.
Well, it was a Dragonriders of Pern fanfic, so most of the groundwork was already laid out. It's a lot easier to write a novel when you don't have to create most of it yourself.
I really liked this book series. I sure hope the movie adaptations don't stray so far from the original plot that it becomes unrecognizable and everybody wonders why things are the way that they are because the set-ups no longer line up with the pay-offs.
I read the first three, hadn't noticed how MUCH terminology there is. Since you pick it up while the story unfolds, you don't realize that. Putting it this way is great 😄 James Dashner is an awesome author
If I recall correctly, in the book Newt climbs to the top of the wall, sees there's no escape and jumps off the edge. He barely survived. that's all they had to say to explain it. But no Newt was all “The Vines don't go to the top” as if they couldn't build a ladder.
Yes and also in the books the maze is underground & so there actually is a roof on top of the maze. The sky is actually a massive screen meant to fool them into thinking they're outside. I believe they also programmed it to seem taller than it actually was so the boys wouldn't even try to climb it.
"Oh, it must have been hard for those kids to come up with so many random names for stuff." "Actually super easy, barely an inconvenience." [CUT TO the Place Where Words For Things Are Decided]
Props to Ryan for using “call/called” about 20 times in the beginning, because my lord the only part of the book I didn’t like was needing to hear the Glader language nonstop.
These kids with the hammers constructing things are called “Whompers”. Those kids cutting wood are called “sawzers”. The naming killed me in that film.
I just read the book a couple months ago for the first time, and I watched the first movie for the first time today. honestly, part of the problem I was having with the adaptation was how quickly things moved. for one, they completely left out the telepathy, idk if it comes up later or not at all but I was really excited for that scene because I wanted to see how Dylan would act it out, since he's generally amazing in dramatic moments like that, but they completely glazed over it. also, I imagined the grievers as much more machine-like, I mean they are partly the same but these grievers feel too organic, too monstery. they got the gross fleshy part right, but I always imagined that grievers would have more methodical movements. also, in the book, grievers would easily have known Thomas was hiding in the vines, and Minho ran off long before Thomas got the idea to string up Alby to protect him. that was why Minho was so impressed with Thomas, because Thomas didn't give up, and still tried to save Alby. also, idk if it was just Ryan misunderstanding what was going on when the grievers stung or if that is actually what is happening in the movie, but the grievers don't give you the flare, they just cause you to get your memory back. I guess what I'm trying to say is that, by rushing things, the movie created far more plot holes than if it had kept things the way they were.
Wowowowow this pitch meeting is a great way to get all the differences from the book. Cause if you know what happens in the book a lot of the plot holes from the movie are filled in. If you do the other two, they have nothing to do with the books so plot holes galore!!

@@nagoranerides3150 ooh, telling people to die in a polite and family friendly way is TIGHT
Just finished reading the book the other day actually, there was a line in it when Thomas got stuck in the maze and they were like “the grieves don’t only come out at night, they always come out at night” grieves are around whenever they like, they just are more common at night.
Hell yeah Maze runner is one most memorable classic fantasy movie
Loved the books! The scorch trials were my favorite, currently halfway through the Fever Code
@@Lezduit586 I started the scorch trials on Wednesday but the first few chapters were pretty intense. I put it down for a few days so that I can be emotionally prepared. The scene with the cranks at the windows has temporarily scared me off
@@Luzura_01 Yeah that was exciting! Just be prepared for a overwhelming amount of plot twists throughout the next books
Only, and Always are the same thing. When it comes to predatory monsters. Like, tigers only eat rabbits, only when there are only rabbits to eat, always. at night.
God, I love Ryan's pitch meetings.
"Ooooooo" :>

That's useful, I'm keeping that.
you know its a great day when there is a new pitch meeting
I know its a day when I wake up and its a day.
So true.
Couldn't say it better!!!!
@@VanillaBearMD3 So if I don't sleep, does that mean it'll never turn day?
It's always such a looong wait...regardless of how long or short time it was since the last one 🥴
That joke near the start about "they sit around naming stuff" has to be a dig at Ryan's own "How X got their names" series, right?
I just finished the audio book, and I gotta say, I understand changing things because they wouldn't translate well from page to screen or to cut down on runtime, but it seems like the writers intentionally changed things and cut out short, simple explanations for the sole purpose of having the movie make less sense than the book.
I would love to see pitch meetings for the next two movies in the trilogy!
id love to see a groundhog day pitch meeting.

Resident Evil

I really hope Ryan has ownership of this channel. He is uniquely hilarious.
It's worth noting that if you click through to the channel page, it still says "Pitch Meeting by Screen Rant"
@@Tera_GX that’s disappointing
@@Tera_GX bummer. I hoped he had escaped.
He has his own channel where he posts different skits though. It’s amazing. It’s just his name - Ryan George, in case anyone doesn’t know about it and wants to check it out!
Not how it works. Even if Ryan himself pitched the Pitch Meeting to Screen Rant, the name, format will always belong to Screen Rant. An idividual would have to pay hefty dough to own it.
i always felt like this movie was like if your mom said "we have Hunger Games at home"
It's Hunger Games for a bit smarter kids.
Wait.. But both of these movies are inconsistent garbage, hostile to logic and covered with plotholes.
The books were better than hunger games
Nah that was definitely divergent
@@inr9751 smarter lmao every young adults movies are dumb

Talk about a major plot twist, the maze is in fact what that company uses to hire new employees.

What a great cement!
I don't know if doing less Pitch Meeting changed something in Ryan, but this Pitch Meeting was on another level!!
Ok as somebody who read the first 2 books, you HAVE to do the sequel, it gets even more insane
You should definitely read the death cure! There are also two prequel books that expand on the world building! They’re actually both really good!
@@billandbraden1439 ok, I'll definitely consider it, its been a very long time since I read em, so I don't EXACTLY remember where it left off but I'm sure I could figure it out
Man, you are awesome! The newer "hey shut up" bit really makes me laugh every time. Another excellent video!
I swear, between these and The Critical Drinker, I am so forewarned against my own plot holes. From a craftsman's point of view, these are actually extremely helpful.
Makes writing a novel pretty easy. Barely an inconvenience.
Why are you watching a racist like Critical Drinker?
What I like about the Drinker is that not so long ago he said he was doing a film. Criticism is easy, but putting yourself out there and expose your craft with best logic you can manage is another thing. Even if he fails and do something terrible is something to admire
Thanks for the tip. I haven't watched any of TCD, so I queued up a few. I also like Screen Junkies "Honest Trailers".
I have never gone from "kinda enjoying this movie" to "I regret watching this movie" so quickly as I did with the Maze Runner
TL;DR: I reallycenjoyed the books up until the third, which had its moments but ultimately couldn't resist descending into utter stupidity.
if i remember the plot of the movies well enough.... nothing makes sense once you learn ANYTHING
supposedly some people made the virus and infected people, for population control? and then after losing TOO MANY people. they decide to spend GAZILLION dollars and INFINITE man power + hours to build the maze and its mutant freaks to help create a cure/immune person? like ummm what the fuck?
yeah, i enjoyed the first book. the concept is cool, but once you're out of the maze what's the point you know? i was there for the maze, not the other stuff. funnily enough I watched cinamasins first and it's sin stuff, watched the movie, then I read the book. strange order but made the book pretty cool with all the additional context.
3:43 I laughed to the point of tears at "well why don't they just build a ladder to get to the top of the maze"

This one was so well written, great work.
I would like to see a Pitch Meeting for a Stanley Kubrick movie like 2001: A Space Odyssey or Dr Strangelove
It would fun to see one of these for an actual really good movie. Other possibilities would be Stalker, or Clockwork Orange. Have a seventies greenscreen office. Writer guy: "and then he kills her with a big plastic penis."
"Oh big plastic penises are tight!"
My question: How has he not done a Pitch Meeting for "Picard"???
I would like to see a Pitch Meeting for everything.
How to get out of any maze. Extent your hand (either). Place it on the wall. Keep walking and don't take your hand off the wall until you get out.
It's stated in the book that this doesn't work in the maze because it just leads back to one of the other sections
Sometimes actually MOST times I look forward to the Pitch Meeting of the movie rather than the movie itself !!
Well done Ryan(s) 💎

Eregon is a fantastic book with the definition of the producers idea of a YA novel, he started writing it at 15-16.

'Let me get off of that thing'
Yes! My favourite line is back!
I read the first three, hadn't noticed how MUCH terminology there is. Since you pick it up while the story unfolds, you don't realize that. Putting it this way is great 😄
James Dashner is an awesome author
I read the books years ago and just recently picked them up again! I think it’s so cool the minute I get obsessed again there is a pitch meeting!

Man this takes me back. I loved the Maze Runner
book.
Isn't that like all YA movies. The book works, but the film is horrible?
@@winchesters4life34 They also cut Newt’s limp, which has a great significance in his character.
