Top 10 greatest R and R ever? Really or probably? Please! Tell me how you came to that conclusion! Was there some great consensus that you went by? Whenever someone throws that “top ten” ranking out there I just have to think then wonder wtf did that come from? Top 10 greatest? Damn that is lofty status! The Beatles have 10 better. Zep, stones, the who,EJ,any Clapton collaboration …… and.. also… in addition… don’t forget these guys…. Not to mention one or two of any of them in addition to all the others out there! Great song, I love it, my band covered it the crowd always loved it! Is it even Rod Stewart’s best? Top 10? Top 25? Top fiddy? Maybe to some but in all reality mez tinx knot!

I was in Europe at the time and I saw members of other top bands at the time in attendance at their concerts. Keith moon was at their Frankfurt show and introduced them. When I saw them at the Deutches Museum Kongresshalle in Munich during Octoberfest, a very buttoned down venue, the crowd went nuts and at the urging of the band stormed the stage. I watched the last couple of songs standing behind Ian McLagen's piano. The concert ended abruptly when they killed the power to the building and everyone filed out with only emergency lighting.

Saw Rod Stewart & Faces back in 1973, perhaps one of the greatest front men in Rock. Back then he actually played the piano as well and that was a thing of beauty to watch. He plays in a jerry Lee Lewis style banging the keys with his hands and feet, dancing on the grand piano. What he could do with a mic stand was phenomenal. Fantastic performer and his band was just as good, with Ronnie Lane on Bass and Ronnie Wood on guitar. and Kenny Jones on drums.

From 1967, it's a bout Alice (remember Alice?) and a "Thanksgiving meal that just couldn't be beat!" that ends up being drafted by the Army. It's a bit long, but ŕeally funny. Please chime in to get some love for this classic!!!!

Rod Stewart's story to success has a lot of curves on its rocky road. The tale is that he was discovered by John Baldry in 1963 singing to himself at a train station while waiting for his train. Apparently he was a grave digger by trade. He recorded with Baldry's outfit The Hoochie Coochie Men in 1964 (also released a single under his own name). He hopped through a few outfits during 1965-66, like Steam Packet (with Julie Driscol, Brian Auger [Trinity] & Micky Waller [Jeff Beck Group]), The Shotgun Express (with Mick Fleetwood [Fleetwood Mac]. In 1967 bagged himself the vocalist position in the recently formed Jeff Beck Group along with Ron Wood on bass and Micky Waller on drums. After first album Ron Wood would take second guitar duties until 1969 when both Wood and Stewart leave JBG and hang out with the remainder of The Small Faces after the departure of Steve Marriott who left to form Humble Pie with Peter Frampton. Thus was formed Faces from the ashes of Small Faces. Rod Stewart closes recording contract with Mercury Records and begins his solo career that would co-exist with his work with Faces. In 1975 Ron Wood is invited to tour with The Rolling Stones, which leaves dates open for Rod Stewart to tour solo which effectively results in Faces disintegrating.

Absolutely one of the great voices in music. React to another great voice, Jeff Buckley and the song “Grace”. Robert Plant and Jimmy Page thought he was one of the greatest singers and guitarist they had ever heard and seen.

Great that you are visiting this absolute banger. I was privileged to see the faces three or four times in their prime. Best live band I ever witnessed. Keep up the good work.

"I'm Losing You" which is really a Faces song, but on Rod's solo album EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY, "Shapes of Things" by Jeff Beck which had Rod on lead vocals (pre-Faces) and is a cover of the Yardbirds song from the Jeff Beck days, and the title track to EVERY PICTURE TELLS A STORY are three more great early day Rod, before you move into his later '70s stuff. Between 1970-1972 Rod released 6 albums (switching between Faces and solo, kind've like Phil Collins later did with Genesis in the '80s). That was Rod's peak- he earned the fame he now has!

Anybody else gone for “Bad’n’ruin” yet? As featured in The Sopranos. Great song, great performance, interesting structure - fascinating to see someone reacting to it for the first time.

You should check Rod's collaboration with Jeff Beck from '68, the album Truth, the song "Shapes of Things". You should also check out Small Faces, featuring Steve Marriott on vocals, who you already heard sing "30 Days in the Hole". I recommend the song "Afterglow (of your Love)".
