    I have this safe, but with the dial combo instead of the battery/button combo. I don't want to sound like doom and gloom here, but how will you get into your battery safe if we are hit with a Solar Flare or an EMP? Both will fry all your batteries unless you have some batteries stored in a EMP proof bag. Also, store this safe where it can not be readily seen as it is not burglar proof; though is will probably keep out the amateurs for awhile!! I've hidden mine in my basement as fire burns upwards for the most part. I also took the extra step to vacuum pack (food saver) my money and important docs. Finally, for those who think a bank safety deposit box is a good idea... it's a terrible idea!

    Just curious, if the safe does encounter a fire situation and the keypad melts, how do you gain access to open it?

    • @GearRules

      Great question. I think you would have to work with SentrySafe support to get it open. My guess is after a fire the safe would be toast and a professional would need to saw/grind the safe.

      @@GearRules Hey there. I was looking online and it says the safe is 19.3 inches in depth. Does that include the handle in the front and if not could you please measure what it comes out to for me. This is the same type of safe that Mr. Locksmith opened in 1.63 seconds with a big magnet. Also, the hinge pin is on the outside! Home doors never have the hinge pins on the outside for obvious reasons. Basically this is a storage box that any crook can open in minutes if not seconds.

    • @facedeer
      @facedeer 2 роки тому +3

      The outside hinge actually isn't a big vulnerability, the door has pegs on both sides (one side is the locking lug and the other side has fixed flanges built into the door) that make the door impossible to simply pull out while locked even if you cut the hinge off entirely.
      These sorts of safes aren't really meant to stand up to a determined attacker, though. They're meant for two main purposes: protecting stuff from a fire and stopping a random smash-and-grab thief from taking things. A random smash-and-grab thief isn't going to have a big magnet or whatever. Just leave a jar of loose change somewhere that such a thief would see it on entry and he'll just grab that and run.
      If you're a business that keeps thousands of dollars or other such valuables in a safe that a dedicated thief might take a crack at, yeah, this is not for that.

      Hey thanks for the feedback. I love hearing from people more experience than me. This is definitely not fort knox, but I wouldn't expect it to be at the price point. • @MNRick041
      @MNRick041 Рік тому +2

      The Mr. Locksmith video is from 6 years ago, I watched it also, and Sentry claims to have corrected that vulnerability. This is a safe that you can get for under $300 at your local big box retailer, it provides protection against fire and your typical opportunistic burglar. Even a safe with a UL burglary rating that you will pay much more for is only good for repelling a burglar (who is using tools) for 10 or 15 minutes, that is the test to attain that rating. So if you have serious valuables in any home safe you should also have a good alarm system hooked up to monitoring for a extra level of protection. For the typical person who just wants to secure their documents, photos, handguns.... This is a good, affordable choice.

      @@GearRules Even a safe with a UL Burglary rating only means that it was not able to be broken into in under 10 or 15 minutes by a burglar with common tools. So if someone has a Rolex collection or a lot of high end jewelry they want to secure you need to have a good home security system that can summon the police in addition to a burglary rated safe.
