I am trying to play with my cat more, but she seems very happy most of the time. She really lets me know when she is hungry, very vocal. We love each other.......Sal : )
I've noticed that they can be quite expressive when it comes to meal times too. My cat will follow me around the house and give little meows to remind me when it's feeding time. It's heartwarming to see how they communicate their needs. It's fantastic that you and your cat have such a close bond and understand each other so well. Have a fantastic weekend! 🐾😊
The list: Overfeeding by leaving food out all day Feeding only dry food Skipping regular vet visits Feeding high carb diets Preparing nutritionally incomplete homemade meals Neglecting vaccinations for indoor cats Decorating with toxic plants Neglecting proper cleaning practices Not providing enough playtime/enrichment Using ineffective punishment-based training techniques
I had a female cat who was neutered and vaccinated once, she was an indoor cat and lived to be 18 years old. I only took her to the vet near the end when she got sick.
The first rule depends on your cat. If your cat is the kind that can't regulate itself you do have to regulate his intake. If your cat gets used to knowing there will always food available he will not have anxiety about the next time he will get fed, My cats always just nibbled a bit and walked away then returned when needed,
You make a great point! Every cat is different. Some need help regulating their food intake, while others can manage just fine if they know food is always available. It's all about understanding your cat's unique needs and habits. Thanks for sharing your experience! 🐱🍽️
I put out enough for breakfast and lunch. My two cats aren’t fat. When my cats aren’t hungry anymore I empty their bowls. Not every cat is a constant glutton. Money is a sleek 10 pounds and her brother is 15 pounds of linebacker. He was always a big boy even as a kitten.
My cat is like this... if i give him only wetfood, he doesnt drink, if i give him dry food, he drinks ;) also, choosing the right dry food is also important! Hills science plan tuna is one of the best dryfoods out there!
Dry food is the general food, the wet food is something I give but not too often. He has a water fountain, he drinks from it, and his favorite place to drink from is the bathroom sink!
@@PawTalks yeah I know right, some cats run at the sound of water from the sink but mine is like "ooooh water!! sometimes he even lays in the sink while the water is running... I think he does that because he likes being tucked in a towel 🤣
I used to work at a boarding and grooming facility for dogs, cats and other animals. Well, there was a resident cat 8n this facility and he would make himself a total nuisance of himself while I was preparing their scheduled meals! It used to drive me nuts. Low and behold, i visited the facility years later and this cat was trained to stay out of the kitchen while meals were being prepared! I was totally amazed that cats could be trained that way! I love cats but more of a dog lover!😉
It's incredible how trainable cats can be with the right techniques and patience. While cats are often seen as independent and stubborn, they can indeed learn good manners just like dogs. It's always fascinating to hear success stories like yours. We're glad to have both cat and dog lovers in our community! 😊
I'm glad you found that helpful! Yes, poinsettias can be a little risky for our furry friends. Thanks for watching and taking steps to keep your kitty safe! ❤🐱
My two will eat dry or wet depending on what’s available. They always have fresh water. Two years ago my boy had a bladder infection so my Vet suggested dry urinary care food. I put my boy’s sister on it. He had medicine and was cured in a week. I asked my Vet recently should they stay on urinary care dry or can they have regular dry or wet and got the Ok. When the urinary care dry is available I get that.
my boy was having trouble peeing twice in 3 months had to have him catherized and was told either keep doing this or try an experimental surgery i think he said they take out his tube going from penis to bladder and replace with bigger tube $3000 or put him down, he's only 2 years old i couldn't lose him i got it done and he's going strong now got him on a strict rx diet, i had to borrow this money. he's the feral kitten that climbed up on my shoulder and went to sleep in my picture.
@@pocketchangecirca91 so glad you were able to help your boy. Putting down should only even be suggested when nothing works by trying a lot in my opinion. Say hi to your boy for me.
I totally get it! Vet bills can be pricey. Consider pet insurance, payment plans, or low-cost clinics to help manage costs. Your cat's health is important, and there are ways to make it more affordable. 🐱💖
I had a cat that had one vaccine, indoor female cat that lived to be 18 years old. I only took her to the vet when she started getting sick near the end.
Playtime! I have an open flat box that has cardboard curls and foil balls. Both go into it, pick a toy and we play fetch. Or they play with each other.
It's great to hear that your feeding strategy is working well for Money and her brother, ensuring they stay at a healthy weight. It's true, not all cats are gluttons, and it's fantastic that you've found a balance that keeps them satisfied without overfeeding. Your boy's weight as a "linebacker" sounds adorable and it’s clear he’s just naturally bigger. Switching between dry and wet food while always providing fresh water is a good practice. It's wonderful that your vet's advice has helped manage your boy's bladder infection and that both cats have adapted well to the urinary care food. It’s always a relief when our furry friends recover quickly from health issues. Transporting cats to the vet without a car can be challenging, but you’ve found a practical solution. It's nice to know they adore your vet, even if they aren't too fond of the vet tech. Sometimes cats just have their preferences! Including occasional treats like plain baked chicken or sardines in their diet is a nice touch. It’s good to see you avoid sauces and salt, keeping their treats healthy. They must love those special snacks! Lastly, playtime sounds like a lot of fun at your place! The open flat box with cardboard curls and foil balls must be an exciting playground for them. Playing fetch and interacting with each other surely keeps them happy and active. Your dedication and love for your cats are truly admirable. Thanks again for sharing your thoughtful comments!
On occasion I bake chicken. I eat the skin. No sauces, no salt just plain. They get a couple pieces in theIr bowl. Sometimes they get a sardine. Packed in water.
Humans also don't regulate their food intake if they sit at home like an imprisoned housecat. Haha. The "nutritition" balance might be a conspiracy by Big Food. Man doesn't eat perfectly either. Stray cats do ok eating what they can find.
That's a funny perspective! You're right, maintaining a balanced diet is important for both humans and cats. However, unlike stray cats that adapt to various diets, housecats rely on us to provide them with the right nutrition to stay healthy. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😺🍽️
Since I don’t have a car when check up time comes I take my two separately. The carrier is too heavy to carry both. They get their shots and exam and all is well. They adore my Vet. They don’t like the Vet tech.
I don't get it. If you're going to feed your cat a certain amount, why not put that amount out and leave it? I've never put any of my cats on a strict feeding schedule and they usually don't even eat the recommended amount. They eat close to it, but they never overeat.
Cats' ability to self-regulate their eating can vary significantly based on individual temperament and breed. Generally, most cats are good at regulating their food intake and will eat only as much as they need. However, certain breeds and individual cats may have a higher tendency to overeat. For example, breeds like the Maine Coon or the British Shorthair are more prone to obesity and may need more regulated feeding schedules. These cats might be more inclined to eat everything in sight, especially if they're bored or not getting enough exercise. Overall, while many cats can self-regulate, it's important to monitor each cat's eating habits and adjust accordingly to ensure they maintain a healthy weight. Thanks for sharing your experience! 🐱🍽️

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and concerns! You bring up some really important points about maintaining a clean and stress-free environment for our feline friends, especially the elderly and kittens. It's true that both air quality and temperature can significantly impact a cat's health. Regular vacuuming and using air purifiers can help reduce allergens, but it's also crucial to ensure that these activities don't cause additional stress. For those with elderly or particularly sensitive cats, it might be beneficial to gradually introduce changes to their environment and monitor their reactions. Keeping a consistent and comfortable temperature indoors can also help minimize stress. If you're dealing with issues like heart disease or other health concerns, consulting with a vet for personalized advice is always the best approach.
