Never herd the term before, and find it annoying. I've always know them as their 'pads' but I guess that term would include the palm area as well. Although after watching this I still think that the lame term 'toe beans' was referring to the palm area as well. Seemed like the video was trying to be cute by calling them that but when used over and over it really started reminding me of when people call they're pets 'babies'. Or themselves as 'fur mom' or 'cat dad'.
Yes, once my kitty pounced on a honey 🐝 when she was almost a year old and the stinger lodged between her two front toe-beans. My kitty began to sweat through her paws immediately. It was so painful and shocking to her, yet I was able to get her to hold still to remove the stinger and put an ice pack on her paw to reduce swelling after she calmed down. When I called the vet and they told me to monitor her heart rate and check for signs of allergic reactions. Luckily we were all good❣️🍀🐾 Also their ears, laying on their backs, and or on cool surfaces help cats with managing heat. They are amazing sweet creatures.
My Ginger, female, reaches out to me using her right paw when requesting for a snack. It is so adorable how she slowly stretches it out and taps my face. Blessing to all at Purring journal. DVD:)
Declawing is thankfully banned where I'm from and can only hope one day that there is a nation-wide ban. What I always say: If people don't want to deal with the claws, don't get a cat. Simple as that.
My 17-year-old kitty Jackie whom I love deeply and dearly is VERY polydactyl - she has 2 extra postaxial toes and one mesoaxial toe on each front paw for 8 total on each, and then one extra preaxial toe on each hind paw for 5 on each - that’s 26 total toes (and claws) that she has rather than the normal 18, and as far as I can tell she has ALL THREE types of feline polydactyly - that’s gotta be pretty rare.
My cat loves grooming. Nail cutting is a breeze. I dont bathe him because its not necessary. He's always bright and shiny with no smell. Honestly, he's the best pet I've ever had. The trust he has for me is unreal. Unlike any dog I've ever owned.
Never had to trim the claws of my indoor outdoor cats that are now 4 year old. They trim them down with their front teeth. Who trims feral cats paws? No one.
This! Declawing takes off the first joint. Look at your finger at the knuckle below your fingernail. Imagine a knife cutting there. That’s declawing. It is cruel and inhumane and should be illegal.
Well, not never. I would say that a claw (singular) should only ever be removed if it is medically necessary for the cat's health and well-being. Meaning severe injury that can't be fixed or birth defect that makes mobility painful or threatens more severe injury if left. Situations like that are exceedingly rare, but not impossible.
Some polydactiles are able to use the claw of the extra toes opposing the claws of the main paw. It's not quite as good as an oppsable digit, but when you see a cat pick up a twist tie in one paw, then hop off carrying it in paw... Almost as good.
My cat that I got from a shelter (and that was surrendered as a stray but suspected to originate from a possible backyard breeder) has a condition where her pawpads and toebeans are super soft and squishy. If you were to press a finger into them, they literally hold that shape. Like a balloon filled with gel. The vet suspects it's a genetic defect affecting her connective tissue, but it doesn't appear as if it's causing her any pain. Still, I am extra careful to check her beans regularly, since we aren't sure how this condition might affect her ability of healing should she get a small wound on her paws. Luckily she is super chill about having her paws touched. 😊
I’m just gonna post this here cuz I’m getting sick of replying to the ignorant people on this comment section. If your cat lives strictly indoors or spends very little time outside, you need to trim their claws. Otherwise, they can get split claws, they can get overgrown, they can curl back into the toe beans, and they can develop nail fungus, if the claws are left unchecked and untrimmed. Since indoor cats’ claws don’t see as much use as those of a cat who’s outside more often, it can also lead to scratching problems. Not all cats will accept scratching posts or boards, and sometimes sprays aren’t enough. If you don’t want to clip your cat’s claws, another method is claw caps, small rubber caps that are glued onto the claw and remain there until they fall off or are soaked off with warm water. Just like with human nails, cats whose claws don’t see regular use need regular trimmings and checkups. So please, don’t be like the ignorant cat owners in this section, and actually do something for your indoor kitty.
I lost my soulmate kitty just over a year ago and even though I've adopted 2 new kitties who I love, I will never have the bond of absolute trust and understanding as I did with my Haley. She let me play with her toes and examine her nails and paws in detail. But she didn't actually trust me to clip her claws because I messed up once because I can't see and didn't realize I was clipping too far. I didn't actually hurt her because she definitely let me know immediately, but she avoided my hand specifically if I had clippers in it. So I just let my mother clip nails from then on because she's somehow the master of kitty nail clipping. "both my adult adopted kitty and our new kitten just sort of sigh and let her get on with it, unless they're feeling particularly energetic.
I thought I couldn't be as close and as trusting with my 4 new kittens as only had boys before and now have girls, but they have a way of creeping into your heart and mind without you even realising it's happening, though I loved and will never forget my boys, the girls have filled a hole that was missing the love of the cats that went before❤️❤️❤️
@@michellecoleman5577 I get it ! I had a soulmate cat that passed away in 2020. I adopted 2 kittens and I love them dearly but not quite the same. There was something unique about our bond. I miss him still
I had this one cat when i massaged her feet from a very young age. After a while, i started clipping her claws while doing it. After a time, all i needed to do was click the clippers and she would run right up purring and ready for a pedicure.
My lil girl was left pawed when we first adopted her, but over time she started using her right paw more and more, and she is now entirely right pawed. My best guess is she is attempting to emulate my spouse and me, since we are both right handed and she likes to emulate everything we do anyway!
Also very important, as your cat gets older their claws can curve around and dig into the toes. This happened with my cat, it was almost like it happened over night, so check regularly. If it does happen, get to the vet. It's easily fixed but you best get some antibiotics. DO NOT DECLAW!
I had a pollydactyl cat with "mitten paws," He was all black with a cute little smudge of white on his chest. Used to lie on his back and let me trim his claws. His nickname was thumbs McGee. I really miss that cat
I just got a black kitten that has 1 beige paw with all pink and 1 black bean and another paw with 1 beige toe with a pink bean the rest are all black. Coolest beans I've ever seen!
Many years ago I had a male cat that was indeed left pawed. If I slowly pushed a toy towards him, he would either grab it or swat it with his left. The action was very fast. Siting on the sofa, he would often reach out with one of his hind feet and touch it onto my leg. This would most often be his left. I think he did this to be able to know that I moved. He would do it if he was snoozing. If he was watching TV he would face the TV.
I'm surprised you haven't heard this expression before. There are numerous versions of Dolly Parton's "Jolene" online dedicated to cats renamed "Toe Beans." 😂😂
I once had a friend that had a mesoaxil polydactyl cat. One night when I was over to visit, I called the cat over to me and got her to jump in my lap and she let hold each foot to count her toes and she had 28, 7 on each foot/paw. And her name was "Mo'toes". 😄😆
Some polydactyl cats with the mitten paws will use that extra digit similar to an opposable thumb. If you watch them closely, you’ll see them using it to help pick up toys and things. It won’t allow for a full grasp like a thumb, but enough so they can get a better purchase on some objects. There is one thing you should watch out for with extra toes, is a tendency for some claws to grow into the skin. If you have a polydactyl, it’s a good idea to examine them for this on occasion.
I had a poly named Toes. He had to have one of his extra toes on each front foot removed because the claw was not retractable, and the claw itself was huge. It grew faster than his other claws. He was just a kitten (4 months) when this was done. All other claws and toes were fine. He was neutered at the same time. He seemed a lot happier after the surgery, and lived a long and happy life. (Jan Griffiths).
@@hayleymariemills No, it's that that term didn't exist until more recently. I'm middle age and it wasn't around. I have given all 3 of my cats clawdicures since they were babies. When laying near me, I often play with their feet to keep them used to nail trimming. I was unaware that could over stimulate them.
I have a Tortie that I adopted. She has a blond toe bean. When I first got her she was impossible and I couldn't inspect it easily. I thought it was defective like half there. Then she was kind of chewing on it at one point in time. I'm glad I broke her of that. At least I think I did . Kind of a mixed up kitty
The beans sweat for grip more than temperature control, which is mostly done via being apparently lazy, just because exercise generates a lot of metabolic heat, what with pussycats being exotherms, just as we. Given the hassle of nail-clipping, may I suggest respectfully that you simply don't bother doing it at all? "Your" cat will be eternally grateful, and you have no longer got to bother your obsessive ass with this chore! Super! A win for everyone! ❤🐈❤
Wow, amazing facts, didn't know a lot of this stuff about their feet, shock absorbers was probably obvious but still didn't think about it was also surprised the beans match their noses now gotta go check my babies feet and noses to see if it right 🤯🤯🤯😺😺😺❤️❤️❤️
Cats can't walk on their tiptoes if they have been cut off by declawing. These poor babies have lifelong deformity and pain. I have seen big cats have to walk on the equivalent to our wrists and elbows. Heartbreaking.
I've seen that too. Look up the Paw Project. They are a team of vets who try to make the cats' lives better by corrective surgery on the feet. My mom in law's cat couldn't walk properly either. He was mutilated (declawed). He kind of shelped along with no breakover. We had him for a short time after she died. My normal (clawed) cats picked on him. I knew why. I ended up taking him to the vet to be put to sleep. If he had his claws, he would have been a much happier cat. This mutilation is now illegal in my state, and I happily signed the petition. (Jan Griffiths).
My boy Piss'n'Vinegar only drinks water this way! He'll lap up tuna water or any other liquid from the bowl, but water has to be licked from his left paw! 😂
I just adopted a kitten, and she LOVES for me to massage her toe beans and in between them. She will get on my lap and slap her paw on my chest. That's my cue to give foot massage. Then she'll pull it away, and slap the other one on my chest. She'd rather have them massaged one at a time, but I think she's being considerate, so my hands don't get tired. 🤭
The toe beans can be cut during the declaw. My mom in law's cat was declawed, even after I advised her what was actually being done, and told her not to do it. All of his little beans had cuts on them afterward. The cat was never the same, spending most of his time in hiding, and was very withdrawn. After she died, my husband and I took her cat. My cats picked on him, and I know why. He walked different. He didn't run or jump. He was miserable. I took him to the vet and had him put to sleep. I know he was in pretty much constant pain. Thankfully, declawing is now illegal in my state. (Jan Griffiths).
This walking thing, walking on their toes, is something that people that decide they’re going to get their hats declawed should be told. This is why so many cats that are declawed have pain in their feet, because they are so very important. In order to declaw, they have to remove the entire segment. It is the equivalent of having the tips of your fingers removed front the last joint of your figures. Also, as with any amputation, phantom feeling, can happen. I’ve had a mastectomy and periodically I feel pain in my right breast, which isn’t there. Do you think cats are immune? of course this is not to the benefit of the individual that is producing this video. He already is highly aware of it. I’m sure.
Please keep all fishing line or cording out of your cats reach… they can bind up around their toe(s) and may cut the circulation off to one or all as the cat struggles to remove it. More often than not, it just ends up getting pulled tighter & tighter…
I’ve had roosters that had that happen to them before my family got them. Poor Bob and Larry only had a few toes each, but they still got around just fine, thankfully.
Would the zootopia animals be considered plantigrade since they walk on their heels? But they also go to all fours sometimes and run around much faster that way.
I love how the Toe Beans 🫘 were called that all the way through 🎉 interesting film I did learn a new thing about sweating through Toe Beans - I should have k own that, but this confirmed it. Two of our late great rainbow 🌈 bridge matriarchs were south paws 🐾 so they were bucking the trend! I think our current matriarch could be, too, and will need to be more observant. Big boy is a south paw, and I'll need to check his wee sister and her partner in crime ❤

❤❤ 🐾🐾🐾 VERY informative!! Thanks 👍🏼
Glad it was helpful! 🐈
Rock and Toe Beans!
the algorithm is full of surprises
Absolutely delightful and accurate.
❤🐈❤
Wow, amazing facts, didn't know a lot of this stuff about their feet, shock absorbers was probably obvious but still didn't think about it was also surprised the beans match their noses now gotta go check my babies feet and noses to see if it right 🤯🤯🤯😺😺😺❤️❤️❤️
My cat loves his paws rubbed, so bizarrely
Why does my cat like to put her paw into the water bowl then lick it off her toe beans?
She's probably testing it, or 'stirring' it so it isn't stagnant water. Some cats are more curious around water, too.
My boy Piss'n'Vinegar only drinks water this way! He'll lap up tuna water or any other liquid from the bowl, but water has to be licked from his left paw! 😂
Some just do. Weird wee beasties.
Yup my boy Sammy, now passed, had big old catchers mitts!
Thanks for this video, very informative & helpful! 🤗😎🙌😻😺😺
Don't know why, but I sure love playing with lil kitty feet!
Beans are the best.
Think about how awful it is for a cat to lose a toe joint to declawing. Their toe beans just dont work properly afterwards.
Bappers! 😺🐾
My cat Tiger-J has polydactyl paws 🐾 and it looks like he has thumbs.
Very cool!
@@ThePurringJournal Thank you.😺
My kids just love a good toe bean massage.
kitty cat
I love how the Toe Beans 🫘 were called that all the way through 🎉 interesting film I did learn a new thing about sweating through Toe Beans - I should have k own that, but this confirmed it.
Two of our late great rainbow 🌈 bridge matriarchs were south paws 🐾 so they were bucking the trend!
I think our current matriarch could be, too, and will need to be more observant.
Big boy is a south paw, and I'll need to check his wee sister and her partner in crime ❤
I don't have enough blood to do that to my 3 tom cats. 7:26
My cat Chad has an extra bean on each paw, she looks like she has mittens on its so cute
I miss my kittens, im going to asl my cat sitter to send me photos pf my cats toes beans tomorrow ❤
“Gimme those toe beans, gimme those toe beans! I said they’re mine now!”
Thank you for my un-testable hypothesis that they were releasing scent with the kneading.
( my adopted cats came from a very bad place and I would never scare them just to test an idea)
Seen plenty of thumb cats here in eastern Ontario. One Aunt had a bunch of tabby cats with them.
