Madonna actually hand wrote a letter asking them to allow her to use this sample for “Hung Up”. They had only allowed one sample previously and that was for the Fugees.
Wow, first listen to ABBA in 2020. You're in for a great ride if you go through their back catalogue of genius hits. I remember Gimme, Gimme, Gimme in the charts first time around. I'm that old :-)
Abba was the very first music I listened to when I got my first WALKMAN..... in the 80's. They are classic, no doubt! And they still rock to this day!...Love them.
It's always great so see someone discover ABBA. They were pretty much the 'Beatles of the 70s' and produced one hit after another between 1973 and 1982. They consist of 4 members: Agnetha (the blonde woman), Björn (the guitarist), Benny (the keyboard player), and Anni-Frid (or Frida, the brunette). I will give you a list of 25 'essential' ABBA songs. This list is nowhere near exhaustive, in fact I left out some of my favourite ABBA songs. But IMO these are songs that anyone should hear as an introduction to ABBA. It should keep you busy for a while, and after that you can dive deeper into their catalog: Dancing Queen (1976) 3:50 The Winner Takes It All (1980) 4:55 The Day Before You Came (1982) 5:50 Chiquitita (1979) 5:26 Take a Chance on Me (1977) 4:05 The Name of the Game (1977) 4:54 Voulez-Vous (1979) 5:11 Super Trouper (1980) 4:13 One of Us (1981) 3:55 Does Your Mother Know (1979) 3:13 Lay All Your Love on Me (1980) 4:33 Eagle (Album Version) (1977) 5:51 Knowing Me, Knowing You (1976) 4:02 Waterloo (1974) 2:46 Mamma Mia (1975) 3:32 Summer Night City (Full-length Version) (1978) 4:18 Fernando (1975) 4:15 Thank You for the Music (1977) 3:48 Money, Money, Money (1976) 3:05 When All Is Said and Done (1981) 3:20 SOS (1975) 3:22 The Way Old Friends Do (live) (1980) 2:53 I Have a Dream (1979) 4:44 Happy New Year (1980) 4:24 On and On and On (1980) 4:16 I've also listed the year of release and song length. Most of these songs have official music videos. However, for 'Eagle' you should definitely pick the 6 minute album version instead of the 3 minute music video. 'Summer Night City' also has a longer version than its music video. Enjoy, but be warned: ABBA's music is highly addictive!
Probably my favorite ABBA song. But they have so many hits. There's a pretty one called Chiquitita with a Mexican flavor. Dancing Queen is one of their most popular songs. It's hard to dislike an ABBA song.
A great song.....great lyrics....Amazing music......and the Vocals......!!!!! This song transcends decades....!! Loving your reaction video's..........
They were brilliant won the Eurovision song contest from Sweden 1974 I think singing water loo dancing queen is my favourite I don't know whether you have reacted to them yet but can't find all your work I normally go mad when I see Gorgeous George
Abba is probably the best pop band you'll ever hear. These arrangements are extremely complex and the vocals are very difficult to sing despite sounding like bubble gum pop
ABBA = acronym of their first names: Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid. My favorite group of all time. 360,000,000 records sold worldwide. I look forward to this journey with you.
This must be my lucky day! You've reacted to another one of my top all-time favorite artists and/or bands: ABBA. I'm also glad to hear you caught where the sample was from. Kudos to you! About ABBA, they were 4 members: The two ladies (Agnetha Fältskog, the blonde and Anni-Frid "Frida" Lyngstad, the brunette) and the two guys, Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. In the scenes where they show them at the recording studio, you can spot the guys. Actually, ABBA is an acronym consisting of the initials of the band members' names. They have quite an interesting discography. Quite varied. They have their upbeat pop songs, their ballads, their darker songs, their upbeat songs with dark lyrics, you name it. I'm so thrilled to hear you're gonna be reacting to more ABBA. Thank you so much. I can't wait to see your upcoming ABBA reactions.
Excellent reaction, even if it was at 6am! I really liked your comment "I can't get enough of this instrumental". So many people seem to focus on lyrics, or the song as a whole. It's great to just feel a section of music. I love when Agnetha sings "no one to hear my prayerrrrrr!!" She hits it bang on, perfection, then raises it ever so slightly sharp with the vibrato, which is stunning! It don't know why it works but it just does. ABBA is one of those bands that gets flack and is dismissed by some people for, I think, unjustified and ignorant reasons, but I will defend them to the hilt. Fabulous songwriters and musicians. I was lucky enough to play a gig in Sweden alongside a couple of Swedish bands. I can tell you: those cats are tight. Swedish musicians are incredibly polished and accurate. They play music like clockwork. You can hear it in ABBA records. Their timing and tonality are unerringly precise.
What a lovely person you seem. No airs and graces willing to learn. Your wonderful smile and knowledge makes it a pleasure to watch you. Stay Safe! Greetings from Manchester UK.
Glad to see you discovering the best popgroup of all time, the soundtrack of my life. To start with ABBA i would recomment Dancing Queen, Voulez-Vous, The name of the game, The winner takes it all, Knowing me knowing you, Lay all your love on me. They had about 2 dozens of worldwide hits. And this year we will hear NEW songs ( after nearly 40 years !!). Beside Madonnas Hung up Björn & Benny just gave permission to the Fugees to sample parts from "The name of the game" in "Rumble in the jungle". Thanks for your reaction.
Loved your review, and look forward to your future discoveries of the sonic fantasies that lie ahead from the fabulous one and only ABBA. Too many songs to mention and all are nuggets.
ABBA were perfection at the recording studio. The good part is that they were brilliant also live. You should try some of their live performances: Australia, Wembley, Dick Cavett show (their last live show, a miniconcert given in a TV set)
Fantastic! You need to react to Knowing me Knowing you, Dancing Queen, SOS, Mamma Mia, The name of the game, Chiquitita, The winter takes it all, Money money money. So many amazing Abba songs (that initially typed as so many shaving Abba songs which could be dangerous in a song like Gimme Gimme Gimme)
If you are wondering why the keyboard music at the start sounds so familiar, it's because Madonna used it in her song 'Hung up' (Obviously with the group's permission, first).
You may have heard that intro part in a Madonna song. She sampled it in one of her songs. I can’t remember which one. That’s only the second time ABBA ever let anyone sample their music.
I'm glad you caught on by the end that this was sampled by Madonna in "Hung Up." There are dozens of ABBA classics to listen to so you've got your work cut out for you.
I saw in the beginning that the wheels were turning when you initially heard the melody and that it was probably on the tip of your tongue that Madonna sampled it in 'Hung Up'. Especially, since you've been reviewing so much Madonna music. ABBA is one of my favorite groups of all time.
ABBA came back after 40 year hiatus this year! They released two new singles in september from the forthcoming album Voyage. Have you heard them already?
In addition to the original ABBA classic and Madonna's sample in "Hung Up", may I also recommend you check out Cher's amazing cover as well? She brings all of her fabulousness to the ABBA vibes and gives it a modern twist! Too good to miss!
I was listening to some music today, and remembered how much you like good harmonizing. So I thought of some recommendations for you; The Mamas and The Papas, The Beach Boys, and Fleetwood Mac.
Other big Groups/ nam,es used samsples or used intire songs to cover how Great ABBA was, (honestlu said: the band ABBA wasnt really don in the 1970's) But after 1990 big banmd's as U2. Only one of the greatest groups EVER!!!!! Pop music perfection!!
Abba! The inventors of pop music! ❤️❤️❤️
It's my favorite song from Abba. 2nd best to me is the song "Super Trouper".
Madonna actually hand wrote a letter asking them to allow her to use this sample for “Hung Up”. They had only allowed one sample previously and that was for the Fugees.
Michael Duquette and they still didn’t say yes until they heard the finished track. But they said they did say yes within 30seconds.
Cool I didn't know that!!!
@@LiaGarciaNu1 she didn’t. Benny and Björn had 50% songwriting royalties.
It's a hot song. They make it so differently and so out of space. Love it!
Yes, Abba are legends. Hit machine for years. Those girls could sing and they knew how to create some catchy ass songs.
Wow, first listen to ABBA in 2020. You're in for a great ride if you go through their back catalogue of genius hits.

Sick groove, man... sick bass, sick voices harmonization, sick lyrics... 1979???? Man, those guys rule!!
To be honest, ANY ABBA song is a good place to start XD
You have seen a lot of ABBA there won't be anything you won't like 😊
Probably my favorite ABBA song. But they have so many hits. There's a pretty one called Chiquitita with a Mexican flavor. Dancing Queen is one of their most popular songs. It's hard to dislike an ABBA song.
They are the Gods of popular Music...
When ABBA started neither Anni-frid or Agnetha spoke English and they performed their early English songs phonetically.
I love this song, thank you for reacting to this awesome band 💖💯
Thank you so much for watching!
they were definitely tapping into the late 70's disco sound with this one.
A great song.....great lyrics....Amazing music......and the Vocals......!!!!! This song transcends decades....!! Loving your reaction video's..........

You have to listen to ABBA dancing queen iconic track x
I'm just at the beginning of the video, but the answer is: Madonna sampled it in Hung Up.
Highly recommend “The Winner Takes It All”, “Chiquitita”

Thank you for the support!
Definetly explore more ABBA songs so many different iconic ones !! Love your videos !

ABBA!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🥂🍾
This is the sound of a generation, for all generations.
Queen Madonna uses samples of this song in her Hung Up song.
Madonna and The Fugees are the only two artists that has been allowed to sample ABBA.
ABBA = acronym of their first names: Agnetha, Bjorn, Benny, Anni-Frid. My favorite group of all time. 360,000,000 records sold worldwide. I look forward to this journey with you.
Wow, I would’ve never guessed that! Can’t wait to hear more!!
With ABBA and Kate Bush (as you have been featuring on your channel) you can't go wrong. The best female singers ever!

I never knew that!! Thanks for the info..
Pancake I love your personality. you are so real without being over the top. ❤️

Excellent reaction, even if it was at 6am!
I really liked your comment "I can't get enough of this instrumental". So many people seem to focus on lyrics, or the song as a whole. It's great to just feel a section of music. this band is a part of my childhood cause my parents listen to a lot of it and my mom speaks swedish and also the band is swedish
This is a prolonged version. Great ❤
Love ABBA, thanks for doing then! Love.
Thank you for watching!
Try Dancing Queen and Does Your Mother Know. I had Dancing Queen on a 45 when I was 13 (44 years ago).
Loved your review, and look forward to your future discoveries of the sonic fantasies that lie ahead from the fabulous one and only ABBA. Too many songs to mention and all are nuggets.
Thank you so much!!
i've always wanted to hear a collaboration between ABBA and the Bee Gees

Hahaha thanks for the recommendations and they near-typo! 😂
The instrumentation inspired Madonna to use the sample in her 2006 global multi-platinum hit ‘Hang Up’
If you are wondering why the keyboard music at the start sounds so familiar, it's because Madonna used it in her song 'Hung up' (Obviously with the group's permission, first).
Great reaction to a great song. Abba's music will never get old. Check out "Winner Takes It All"
Thank you!
I’m in Toronto and just outside of Toronto is Waterloo. ABBA sang a song about Waterloo 😉 maybe somewhere along the way you’ll react to that video 🙏
Noted! 😊
PancakeMarshmallowDude sahweeet beans 🎉😁
You may have heard that intro part in a Madonna song. She sampled it in one of her songs. I can’t remember which one. That’s only the second time ABBA ever let anyone sample their music.
Very, very good!
I'm glad you caught on by the end that this was sampled by Madonna in "Hung Up." There are dozens of ABBA classics to listen to so you've got your work cut out for you.
Singers like Madonna on her song Hung Up and more recently Ava Max on her song Torn have both sampled Gimme Gimme Gimme
You might be thinking of Madonna’s Hung Up, she’s a big ABBA fan and sampled their music.
Funny reaction when you first hear the sample, and even funnier when you realized (at the very last seconds) it’s Madonna 💡
Hahaha yep!! 😂 Thanks for watching!
Going full disco... Yeah that takes special clothes, and a beanie :D
Hahaha!
I saw in the beginning that the wheels were turning when you initially heard the melody and that it was probably on the tip of your tongue that Madonna sampled it in 'Hung Up'. Especially, since you've been reviewing so much Madonna music. ABBA is one of my favorite groups of all time.
It absolutely was!! Haha, I can’t wait to listen to more of their work!

ABBA came back after 40 year hiatus this year! They released two new singles in september from the forthcoming album Voyage. Have you heard them already?
Madonnas Hung Up Sampled the Bassline
This sounds like a disco extended remix
Eighties disco beat baby.
Fun fact ABBA also sampled that melody from an Indian pop song
Madonna was take this intro of this song for her song Hung up!
In addition to the original ABBA classic and Madonna's sample in "Hung Up", may I also recommend you check out Cher's amazing cover as well? She brings all of her fabulousness to the ABBA vibes and gives it a modern twist! Too good to miss!

There's another ABBA video coming soon. 😊
I am sure what you were hearing to begin with was Madonna's song Hung Up. Funny seeing your brain work that one over...lol
According to rumors in the Swedish press, Madonna paid $ 4,000,000 for that part of the song!
// Regards Kjell Eson Sweden
Could be true. According to Benny they agreed to split the royalties...
You probably heard the music from mama Mia! Film
