This is so helpful! I just bought my 2011 Raptor three weeks ago, and I’ve been slowly fixing things here and there also. Watching this definitely made me want to take next weekend and do a complete fluid change on everything lol. Keep the videos coming!
Thanks man. We got a long list of things we have been doing. Lots of videos to come.
Such a great video as all the other videos are as well. Always so packed full of quality information and helpful tips. You guys never fail to make me happy when I see there’s a new Keep It Dirty Offroad video. Keep up that awesome work, absolutely love the content!!
Thanks man. Much appreciated 🙏🙏
I definitely agree with the catch can point. Yes, it is good that it catches oil so it doesn't cake in the intake of the engine, but they made for drag racing, they only work when they're cold, for short times. Once the catch can warms up, it doesn't condensate oil and it goes through anyway. Either vent the PCV vapors to an atmospheric can that doesn't recirculate, or what I did was install an exhaust evacuation set up, which uses the exhaust vacuum to pull it with the exhaust
Yeah, people are all over the place with catch cans and why they are good and when the work. Not even the companies make them are honest about all this either.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad word
I remember that keep it clean on street video, that one was cool.
Awesome video Helio, I'm learning a lot on how to work on mine. Thanks for the informative content
Thanks man. His little joke is the most quoted line we get everywhere we go
I'm glad to see you got a truck that needed some TLC so you can make some content and have some projects with the family.
That was the goal man. Would have been boring if the truck was perfect.
Agree with you 100% on the catch can
Right on. We are in the minority apparently. 🤷♂️ ah well. I’ll take a reliable engine over the head aches they add any day
Had that same issue with my dipstick! Luckily it was found when I was having my headers installed so they did it while they were in there for me
That’s the best time to do it. So annoyed the previous owner did not just replace the dip stick with a braided one when the headers were installed.
Whoever owned this truck before you was an idiot. You have cleaned it up nicely!. Love your channel and keep it up.
Thanks man. And totally agree. He completely neglected some major items and made some bonehead decisions
About fucking time for an update!
Sorry man. Been having a shit ton of fun working on the truck.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad looking forward to the svc updates.
I like your videos thank you for putting them together and for documenting everything you do to your truck. I have learned a lot in terms of servicing and improving our rigs. I don't have a raptor but I was wondering if you have a channel that you will recommend regarding Ram Rebels Gen 5th?
A lot of what I do apply to all trucks. Ram does have it quirks and we don’t get many on the trails out there. I maybe know 1 guy and he’s driving a power wagon and has a ton of problems
I hope you get the TRX still and keep this nice ass Gen 1 Raptor 🙏🙏🙏🙏
Me too man, but we are over budget right now on the rehab and getting the TRX is not looking good. Still have not decided yet.
Nice content bro
That exhaust sounds so much better! No more carolina squat exhaust garbage.
Right!! I’m really happy with it.
Nice Video, Very specific and helps us know what to do to ours as well whenever we will do large trips! I also wanted to ask, on our 2010 Gen1 the fuse 27 has not been moved, should we be concerned or?
Some have been able to get away with it. Including my truck. I have the kit in the glove box and it is something I will be addressing just based purely on all the abuse and stress this truck is going to see.
You have some great informative videos about your Raptors. I just bought a 2014 stage two Roush Raptor. I would love to have your input on my truck.I already fixed some miner adjustments on it. Most importantly, cost affective……
Thanks man. I will be documenting the whole rehab of this truck and everything we fix. We will be addressing all the coming faults these trucks have so you know what to look for. And we will show you the upgrades you want and why. If you ever have any questions DM me over Instagram and I would be happy to answer your questions. I help guys out with their build questions all the time. Just keep in mind I’m coming from a hardcore offroad experience and you may not always like what I recommend. I always give people the truth based on my experiences

Thanks for your response. One of my many questions is, does your coolant fluid go fast? I noticed that when your florín it for miles on end that my supercharger was heading up. I live in the South Bay and I was going up to Gorman this past weekend and I know heat was a factor too. I was florín it up the great vine and I noticed the temperature on went all the way up on my supercharger. I did have coolant hoses inspected and there was no leaks. I hope I explained my correctly. What are your thoughts on it?
So your Cooke bet level went down after a hard pull up the grape vine? That is odd. You can vent a little through the overflow but not much that you would notice. Maybe your thermostat is bad and staying closed or possibly some air in the system. Not sure, definitely a strange one for sure
Haha! Beat the devil out of it! RIP Bob.
🤣🤣
Love the fact that you got the gen 1. These rehab on interesting, when till you go on runs ?
Follow us on Instagram. We already did 2 runs with it. Shakedown run right after she got out of SVC and a group run this weekend.
Did I see a ThurenFab shirt? Jeep must have gotten some goodies too!
No Thuren shirts
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad at 15:40. Don snuck your son something
Damn. Your right. He did sneak it in. Have no clue where we got that shirt
When are you dropping the Baja Mexico vid?
🤦♂️ as soon as I can get my buddy to sit still long enough for an interview. Yeah that video has been a long time coming
Gen 3 looks the best
To each his own
Was wondering How much does the Baja kit increase your track width ?
She has the SVC amid travel kit and that increases the width overall by 6 inches, 3 inches on each side
Shoutout to SVC
Those guys have been amazing with help on this build.
Rust. Rust. Rust. Rust. Rust. I know California is terrible but you don’t have to rub it in our face. Some of us have to live that life you know. 😉
🤣🤣🤣
It's good to catch oil before runs through your engine. Unless you like carbon buildup and the bill that comes with it to get it removed.
Lol. Read the comments man. That’s basically been mostly debunked. And no one has any proof to back it up.
The gunk that fell out of the catch can at the end of the pour is the evidence you need. The problem is no the oil itself, the issue is the burnt up residue of oil and gasoline, and soot that slowly but surely cokes up the air inlets for the combustion chambers over time (not sure about the technical names of the parts I just mentioned, not a car expert, but I did see a pretty good explanation video with animations and stuff haha), definitely worth it to get a catch can, even if the car lost a bit of oil over time, is not much, and your oil level has an indicator in the event that it did lose too much oil.
But there is no evidence to support that a catch can reduces that build up. I’ve seen the videos explaining why. But I have not seen anyone do a side by side comparison of 2 like engines one with and without to show the difference. Lots of theory is provided but not much actual evidence to support their use
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad True, but I rather doubt that they cause harm, maybe it's just snake oil... Maybe you can make a series out of it!
Here’s the challenge of that video. How do you differentiate between a good catch can and a bad one?
I have no clue and no videos out there on how to differentiate because know one knows. Most catch cans are not designed by engine guys. Some tuner yeah, but literally any shop can do minimal research on other systems, mill out a cup, put together some fitting and pipe and you have a catch can. What if the tap into the wrong spot?
I’ve seen the bad side of catch cans. Ecoboost and supercharged engines going into limp mode for no reason.
I personally think it’s more snake oil than anything and the risk is high of damage. I’m planning on removing mine. Just need someone without one so I can properly route my lines.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad would watching an installation video, and doing the steps in reverse work, or would you need more information?
I have not found the install video for mine. It came with the truck back in 2014. Not many DIY UA-cam videos were done back then specially for niche products like a raptor
Where are the front row hooks mounted with the frame cut bunker??
It’s not a frame cut bumper 🤷♂️ .
I don’t like the bumper currently on the truck and it will be swapped out. It was an odd choice by the previous owner. Both front and rear bumpers getting swapped out
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad yeah I’m running the SVC Baja front and rear on my Gen1 and losing the OE tow hooks on the front frame cut was a bummer, but turned out awesome. Huge improvement in approach and departure
I like the mazzulla offroad rear bumper and 454 motorsports makes a really slick looking front bumper that I want to get.
I have a catch can on my 2.7L EB too, because everyone says that that excess oil burning is said to cause serious intake valve, turbo problems over time. I don't get very much oil in mine, which I empty every 15k miles when I change my oil, but it does provid a little peace of mind. Better safe than sorry, I guess.
Yeah, but I’ve heard more bad experiences than good and no one has any long term data on them to confirm they actually do help
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad Bad experiences I've not heard of, per say. Like what? Mine seems pretty darn durable, well made, plug and play.
Most won’t notice it, but I’ve heard about hesitation with acceleration, car detects a leak and pulls timing. And power loss.
To much risk IMO. And I’ve noticed mine loose power recently and I can’t take off mine. Once it’s in, those components drilling or modified have to be replaced
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad I installed mine. It was plug and play, no drilling, etc. I've had it on for a few years now. I've got 155k miles, still runs like a BEAST.
Each kit is different. I think on my truck a few lines had to be spliced.
Hey buddy, if you ever get up to PA i would love to do a collab
I used to travel all the time to the east coast. But not so much these days. What did you have in mind?
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad anything brother! I've got a 1st gen roush and was just offroad with Savage at their event. There's another coming up in November. I would love to come out to the desert at some point!
You should definitely come out man. Off-roading is so different on the west coast. Open roads for miles.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad l will one day. I'm about to be monetized so I'm doing everything i can to build up the channel!
The point of a catch can (on direct injection vehicles) is to pull oil out of the PCV system (crank case vent system that gets vented into the intake) because the oil will cause carbon build up on the back of the valves. However, on port injection vehicles like the v8 raptors, a catch can is completely unnecessary because the injectors wash off the intake/valves and prevent that carbon from building up. Without a catch can your injectors will simply wash out that oil and it’ll get burned off with no adverse effects.
This is yet another reason I’m not a fan. The general knowledge and recommendations you read say every vehicle needs one and they claim carbon build or oil build up in the intake. But not all engines will benefit from it. And here in the Raptor it’s a waste I think regardless
yes you are correct in regards to the valves, however the oil will vaporize and build up carbon in the intake plenum. I can show you a raptor intake with 300k (that didn’t have a catch can) and the carbon buildup in the intake is significant, at least .040 throughout the plenum and most definitely decreasing air flow and efficiency
Do you have a catch can engine with the same mileage? This is where the argument usually falls apart. Because no one does. I have a suspicion why. 🤔
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad there is plenty of evidence out there, to the point that Ford even issued them as a recall to fix old gen Ecoboosts. Newer gen solved it by adding port injection to wash the valving. Point is oil is getting in places it's. Not meant too due to blow by.
I get that man. That’s the drawback of all engines. But there are no 300k miles truck with catch cans showing they helped decrease it. And that’s the main reason I won’t get one. And a ton of companies make kits and it’s hard to differentiate a good kit from a bad one. Too risky for me
How was the registration of an out of state veichle in cali dmv? Was it hard easy time consuming?
Time consuming as always. I’ve done it before and rather than waste hours at the DMV over multiple trips I hired a service to do it for me this time. I still did the weight and smog, but they stood in line for me
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad
Wow did not know there was a company that would do that. Who did you get to provide you with those services? Because i dont want to do that be in line and stuff and just save time.
There are a few out there. I used a guy in El Cajon. It was called skip the line. Made the process super easy
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad thank you so much.
Great video. Which muffler shop is this?
Linked in the description man. OC Muffler Man in Southern California
All that sludge that was in your catch can will eventually build up over time in your engine, engines now a days send oil vapors back into your intake manifold. If you run your vehicle hard often it's probably a good idea to run a catch can on the passenger side
That’s what people say, but there is literally no evidence or side by side comparisons to back it up.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad the evidence was right there in the bottom of your catch can, that nasty thick gunk. Over time that will build up on your valves. I run one on my car and my truck. The car catches oil but there isn't ever any build up or gunk in the catch can. Now on my 2017 f150 5.0 there seems to always be a little gunk at the bottom pending how hard I've driven it between oil changes. Me personally i think its more of a better to be caught with it than without it kind of thing long term wise just my opinion 🤷♂️
Nah man. First of all, catch cans catch moisture and oil. More water than oil and that’s the gunk you see at the bottom.
2nd, on the 6.2 v8 there is no benefit because of its valve design. See other post from a follower.
Lastly, that oil passing through is normal. Some engines need it like the Rotary engines. On the Gen2 I had a friend run one on and take it to a tuner. They could literally see the truck pulling timing and loosing power with the catch can on. It was causing more harm than good.
So again, your idea of rather safe than sorry. To me catch cans are a HUGE risk that I prefer not to take. There are good system out there I’m sure. But there are more bad, than good and anyone, even those shops with little engine experience, can and have released one and NONE OF THEM have backed up any of their claims of benefits. It’s always look at this oil we caught.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad look up walnut blasting, unless the vehical is direct and port injected that will be the future of the valvetrain.
Yeah I looked it up. Eventually I’m going to get a blast cabinet. But this time it was just easier to send parts out of struggle with w wire wheel.
what bumpers do you have . great video to.
Thanks, right now she’s running RPG race line bumpers front and rear.
I will be swapping them out here in a few months.

🤣🤣🤣 I’m surprised by how good it looks.
I couldn’t see exactly where you were looking at with that leak but it could be the transmission bulkhead connector. It’s common and it happened on my 2010. So what I did is change that connector, the trans filter and fluid. Here’s a link to a reference video ua-cam.com/video/3JImNJLjy9E/v-deo.html
Mine was the oil dip stick for sure.
How much was this to buy?
A lot. I’ll do a coat recap towards the end of the rehab.
@@KeepItDirtyOffRoad awesome. I have a black 2011 raptor screw basically stock but definitely want to go mid travel in the future. Love the gen 1’s!
Ah, good to know. I saved a ton by buying used and rehabbing. This is easily a $130k build in its current state if I started with a 2014 truck
Y didn't u have true duel exhaust installed , ur motor would love u for it . It would breath so much better and alot more house power bro . Big mistake
Not really man. Talked to the shop owner about this and we both agreed. Compared to a 3 in pipe, the gains of a dual exhaust setup would be minimal, (single digits) and cost 3 times as much. I also already have long tube headers with high flow cats for the big gains. This is one of those situations where a single 3 in pipe is more than enough and the best option
You guys are starting to put way too many ads in. Kinda ruining my like for the channel
I let Google do the ads man. Longer the video, the more ad brakes Google puts in.
