Here in the US, Bachman-Turner Overdrive was huge. I didn't even know who The Guess Who were and mostly because I was too young. I was a teenager when BTO was famous. Love these interviews with Randy. I might have said this before but he is the most interactive with fans of all rock stars that I follow.

Randy didn't say why he left the Guess Who, like your video title suggests.
Through the years, I heard him say he left the Guess Who because the other guys were into drugs & he wasn't. Another interview from another time, Randy said the Guess Who were always touring & he wanted to get off the tour bus.

Love Randy Bachmann! I got to see the Guess Who in Milwaukee when they introduced "Laughing" as their new single. Saw Randy on an oldies show with Gary Puckett, and a bunch of others (I've seen a lot of those so I might get them mixed up). Wish I'd seen BTO. Love the records. He's one of the guitar greats, but he's also a great artist.

What Randy talks about on Bachman & Bachman on paper sounds a bit like what John Mellenkamp did with his Americana sound. I need to hear some Bachman &Bachman!

Bachman never let the truth get in the way of a good story. Anyone who believes his version of anything hasn't been clued in. Those in the industry all know he makes things up as he goes along just to suit his narrative.

No two people tell the same story about an event because it is taken from their personal prospective. An important point with one person can be totally unobserved by the other. Over time everyones stories change and grow, from the bible to indigenous tales. Its human nature. Personally I just love listening to him talk about the history and people that created the golden age of rock and how they all intertwined and the full circle moments over the decades. I really miss Vinyl Tap.

If Randy , Burton ,Garry Peterson , or Jim Kale reads this , if there’s anyway you guys can explain details to all your song recordings that you did together from 1966 to 1970 . Both Burton and Randy seem like very good storytellers I don’t know too much about Garry and Jim. I’d love to hear what they have to say about all the songs they recorded those above years when they were together. This was my favorite (possibly most peoples favorite) line up of the Guess Who.. Please take this into consideration I’d love to hear your guys thoughts and what went on during the recording of these songs that you guys did for those four years together …. Include Burton’s first album with (The Guess Who) titled (It’s Time ) when Chad Allen shared lead vocals with Burton on that album (that really is a good album I wish (Little Steven ) from the underground garage would play cuts off this album)

Did I miss something? That was the story of Randy leaving BTO, not The Guess Who. Still interesting as a lifelong fan, but change the title is all.

As much as I liked listening to The Guess Who back then, you have to notice that all their hits were about heartache or sadness and who needs that every time you listen to their music?

Musicians are a flaky lot it’s a miracle any band ever stays together for more than one year. That was a comment made by my cousin a musician. I booked bands and comedians for years you just pray that everybody goes their own way in place nice in the sandbox when things don’t work out.

    • @mikearchibald744
      @mikearchibald744 2 роки тому

LOL, pretty much. I don't hold much against them because I wouldn't last a week in a band. The story is that 'back in the day' Howlin Wolf had to pull over and beat sense into his drummer. That sounds sort of appalling but whenever managers or 'guys in charge' hear that story they just kind of nod. That documentary on The Ramones and what they went through touring was really something else. You have to REALLY love groupies and the scream of the crowd to put up with that. And apparantly Howling Wolf was one of the BEST people to work for who paid well and offered benefits. But if you think about it, a guy playing an instrument during their teenage years, if they ONLY keep doing that, thats not exactly a well rounded person.

Although he still makes albums at a rapid clip (about one a year), Neil Young is actually retired from touring. He hasn't done a full-length tour since 2016 (though he did do a 9-show tour of Europe in 2019 and an 8-show American tour in 2018), and says he won't tour again unless he can find a way to do so carbon-neutrally.

    Egos, greed, lifestyles,
    age, and more.
A classic example of, what might of been. If they could of just learned to play nice. It's hard to say where they might be in the discussion of premier rock bands. Couple those with a "play it safe and conservative" producer. And you end up with so much less than was possible. And the saddest part is that the whole group is still at each other's throats 50 YEARS LATER!!!!!!
....unless there's money involved of course. Oh well.

Bachman Turner Overdrive was huge in the United States from 1972 through 1976. They were always being played on the radio. The Guess Who? Not as much.

    • @mikearchibald744

Radio played current hits, not so much past ones, so its likely when you start listening. They had hits at that time, the Guess Who had hits starting in the sixties.
