If anyone is wondering, this song is about the love of a parent for their child, written by Richard Marx. John adores his two sons Robert and James. This performance was wonderful.
The phrasing, enunciation, purity, clarity, subtlety, power & texture of John''s performances always astounds me. Even after being a fan for over 55 years. This song is one of my faves. Our beloved GOAT. ♥️
OMG is right. John’s ballads are always sung so beautifully , and with such emotion , they always have me in tears . Love John so much❣️ Thanks Charlie.
1.30am UK first day of summer. . This is my nightcap before I go to bed - thank you. John always sings away the day's irritations, such a beautiful emotional voice. E❤
He sung this while thinking of his children. Sooo beautiful. Thanks Charlie. Our beautiful John and That VOice !! Just love him ❤️❤️❤️ Love to you too Debb ❤️❤️❤️
I listen to and enjoy most musical genres and some stir in me different emotions. John though is the only one who can make me cry even when he's belting out a rock song. It's the sheer perfection of his gift, and the love that shines from him. He's a phenomenon.
He has that effect on me as well. He's my "go to" whenever I need a few moments to myself to put the day into perspective. The sheer joy of just dipping into Farnsey on my mobile youtube..... E❤
Lovely song! Richard Marx has been a favorite for a long time! Great reaction! This song is considered to be in C major, which has no sharps or flats. However, that first "flight" chord in the verse is the diminished 3rd to what sounds like the 2 minor or the 4 over 2 (I'm not at my piano to test it). Then he starts the chorus on the 2 minor -> 5 -> 1 -> 6 minor -> 2 minor -> 5 -> 1. The next "flight" chord in that chorus is a half-step mod to the C# Key Signature, if I'm hearing right, then he brings it back to the C for the next verse. 😁 He does that mod again and brings it back down to C again. Dynamics!
My god. I've never heard this song before and it is utterly beautiful. I've never heard words expressed more meaningfully in song form. As always, John's voice is superb. Thanks so much for posting.
I love this song so much. Thank you Charlie for reacting to it. "Not recorded on a potato."😂😂😂😂😂 I know this song makes John think of his sons so very heart felt and meaningful. I knew you'd love this song. ❤❤❤❤❤
Let's not forget Phil Buckle who co-wrote this song. I was listening to an interview with John the other day and he said Phil asked him one day where the tape of this song's melody was that Richard had given him and within 3 days Phil and Richard (while apart, mind you) had written this exquisite song for John to perform. He has always surrounded himself with immensely talented people and also other genuine artists who have so much love and respect for John. His work ethic and love for his crew and us, his audience is one of the best I've seen and also our other Aussie artists like Jimmy Barnes also in turn have that love and respect for him and love working with him. I just wish our newer artists could see it's not about how many million you've got in the bank, music should come from your soul and be genuine, not auto tuned or pitch corrected - just be real and bring back live back up bands and vocalists!. That's my speech for the day Lol! Have a great day everyone ❤️
The fact that he has been endorsed by so many Big International Singers and Bands who are so enthralled by his skills as a singer that they are heavy fans of his and see him as an equal. He has knocked down many offers to join legends like Queen but has also been so thoroughly screwed over by people that he thought had his best interests at heart in is early years. It wasn't until the second half of his career that he found people that he could finally trust wholeheartedly. He should of had a far larger career than he did, him being an international star should never be even a question.
This is my favourite of favourite songs of John's THANK YOU RICK Marx for creating it! 💚 Only John can go from that banter into this tear jerker and it gels perfectly! ..... {Gesundheit!} Charlie, you're a Dad yeah - you know this is the song John chose to do when he became a Dad for the first time. 💞 CHOOKAS! Love from Red-in-💙
There's not many singers like John Farnham that can use a Mike he can use that thing right down to his knees and still sing not many people can do that John Farnham is a beautiful person I cry when he sings songs like this it's beautiful and don't forget about Richard Marx he can play that damn piano and write this song this song was a a Beauty
Yet another of John's concerts that I went to 3 times, and I cried when he sang this each time. I could never go and see him in each concert only once lol. John's music has always been there in my life since my teenage years (I'm 70). It's been there to help me celebrate the good times, and it's picked me up and soothed me in the bad times. His music is healing. Even now, I still listen to him every day. My children and my grandchildren know all his songs and love him as much as I do. Thank you so much for this beautiful reaction, Charlie. Although you've done a lot of reactions to John's music, and I've loved them all, you still have many more to go. His library of songs is huge. ❤❤💓💓
Actually I have been thinking about why John is finally being heard and appreciated - I think the world is reaching out for true and genuine music - not AI, no auto tune or pitch corrected. Just pure emotion and love - no ego at all and also live bands backing up. I very rarely listen to new stuff - except Guy Sebastian and other similar genuine musicians. ❤❤❤
That's so true, Debb - John is authentic. He breathes real life into the words of every song, and that comes from having a good, honest, loving heart - and putting family values, and love of Australia, before global exposure. E❤
What a beautiful song sung by the Master. Thank you Charlie. It was my birthday recently so I celebrated by watching a concert I hadn't seen for a while. It's JF at 70 (!!) singing in concert to raise money for our farmers during a drought. I so recommend it to you if you haven't already seen it. It's too long for you to present here, so just for you to admire how amazing this man is still at 70! It's the Hay Mate concert on UA-cam. Do yourself a favour and be amazed at how unbelievable he is still. Much love, Charlie ❤️🥰
It's on youtube. It's from "John Farnham. Then Again" album. I'm UK. Been following John for less than 2 years. Couldn't find any albums or concert /other dvds here. My daughter found his greatest hits album last year (the last new one in the UK!) and before Christmas I found another album in a secondhand record shop. By that time I'd discovered youtube on my mobile so I haven't played that album. It's John Farnham then again - so I must go through it, see how many other songs there are that I haven't yet heard. It's so wonderful that I keep finding Farnsey songs that I haven't heard before. . E❤
I may be wrong but I'm sure that this was actually written for Richards son (?) But even as a love song I sat there with hand on my heart and tears in my eyes. John performance of this song just took my breath away. Thanks for this great reaction Charlie. There is a duet John does with Laura Branigan (also has a massive voice) "I wanna know what Love is" that I'd love to see your reaction to. ua-cam.com/video/My3ql2NBu18/v-deo.html
There IS actually a potato-cam version of this song, and that potato version happens to be my favourite :-) Once you get past the poor recording quality of it, his phrasing is much more expressive and impactful (IMO).
From 4 minutes, we might be getting somewhere, yet it's "better & mainstream" - face it, we've seen & heard these "average lyrics" before... they're average👎 and his voice doesn't make them special! Summed up, they're and it's kinda average, at least in my opinion.
Your reactions are so pure and I always find myself seeing even more beauty in a performance through your perspective. Love your work and love from Australia ❤

Richard Marx wrote the melody, and gave it to John. Phil buckle asked to look at it and brought it back completed in 2 days.
Richard Mark's has said that John Farnham was a huge influence for him. I love that they got to meet and recorded some music together ❤
Cheers Carolyn ❤ Richard is one of many international musicians who said he has the best voice on the planet. ❤
No matter the song, John always delivers. Thank you Charlie...😊❤

He can belt like the best people in the world but he also has outstanding control and tone down low as well.
I see nothing but facts here

Thers a quality clarity richness in Johns VOICE like no other ❤
Thank you for playing this, showcasing not only John's beautiful vocals but also Richard Marx's songwriting genius. What a great pairing!

That's why John is called. ,the voice 🤟
I love all your reactions our John. You should check out John’s “That’s what love will do”. You won’t be disappointed.
John is my favorite male singer. Eivor is my favorite female singer. Both are epic.
Turned 75 the other day and looked great!!
Lovely reaction to this gorgeous, talented man!

Richard Marx did John's version of HELP too. There's a live video of it recorded in Berlin, Germany at the famous Waldbühne.
I don't think so. John did that himself, when he was teaching himself the piano.
