This video is for the owners of the Toro Power Clear 621 QZR Snow-thrower. There are a lot of these out there and if they sit with ethanol fuel in them they won't start in late fall.

I have an earlier version of this Toro with a tecumseh engine. Mine was surging too. Cleaned the carb and it's running great now. I just ordered an electric start motor for it off ebay. Saw doublewide6's video installing one on a 2 stage. Mine is setup for it, so for fun I ordered the used starter motor. The videos you guys produce sure have helped me a lot. Thanks Bruce!

Thank you for sharing Bruce. I have that same snow thrower, after the first year it wouldn't throw snow. When I took the shroud off, I found the governor pivot was seized solid. I make sure to lube it every spring before storage. Thanks again.

It worked!!! It took me 3 hours, but I eventually got it. There was barely any gum or dirt in the brass jet but I cleaned it anyway with a safety pin, guitar string, and carb cleaner spray. I figured I took the time to disassemble everything that I might as well just clean whatever I can while I have access to it. Thank you!
As a side note, I left the main fuel line attached to the carb, but had to detach the primer fuel line which was a lot easier to remove than the main fuel line. I used a strong 6 inch plastic spring clamp that woodworkers use to hold glued boards together while they dry to clamp-off the main fuel line from dripping fuel on the ground. The hardest part was getting the brass jet out with the screwdriver and thin Allen wrench poking down from the top of the carb. Also remembering how the choke rod pin went back together was tricky and I had to use this video again to remind me how it went back together again. I have the same exact Toro QZR 621 by the way.

Bought a used Toro 421qe in really nice shape. It needed paddles, scraper bar, and belt. Replaced. The engine surged abit but the bowl was very clean! Had to find out why. Watched your video and sure enough the jet was somewhat corroded. The holes are super small! I was able to remove it from the carb while it was still attached to the inlet. Runs like a top now. Just wanted to thank you for this very helpful video!

I got the 19" version of this thing a few years back to replace the old two stroke version. In spite of using stabilizer and physically draining the carb the first year, the thing started to hunt during last winter. I was able to get at the carb a little easier than this one, fewer covers I guess. In any event, the carb did have white crusty growth on the nozzle and jet. I can't recall if I pulled that nozzle out or not, but will definitely get it out if this thing acts up again. In the mean time, I figured out why the old two stroke had low compression once warmed up, a stupid compression relief under the coil was carboned up, eliminated it all together. Now the thing has all the compression in the world...Gave it to my brother to use, will probably run another ten years...

Hi Bruce Great work as always. My sons father in law had a Honda thrower simular to that Toro brand new. He said he ran it for a few minutes and it died then he said he couldn't pull the rope like it was seized. So when he had me look at it I noticed it still had the tag on it that said to add oil before starting and sure enough he never put oil in the only thing in the engine was burned up assembly lube. When I told him this he said he put oil in he was very adamant. So I told him to take it to a shop. Haven't heard what ever came of it

I was able to get the jet out while still on the machine. But I probably wouldn't have even attempted it without this video. The most difficult step was finding a screwdriver to fit the brass plug. An Enderes 4-in1 screwdriver from Sears did the job. Once the plug was out I just needed to give the jet a little push up from the bottom and it fell right out. I had two of the smallest holes clogged but there was no green crud on mine. I used some wires pulled from a wire brush. After putting it back together, I needed to hit the primer bulb about 10x, and it started right up.

Nice job, Mr. Pender. We don't get a lot of snowblowers to work on here in Louisiana so I find them interesting. A small suggestion if I may ...whenever you have to squirt "long distance" with your two-cycle primer gas you might try putting an appropriate length of plastic tubing on the end of your spout. Less mess to clean up and all that. Again, fine job, young man.

Nice job. Nearly new machine, eh. I like those little snowthrowers, even though they're mainly plastic, for light snows, maybe up to 5-6", but also keep around a 2-stage for heavier and wetter snow. Those rubber paddles are nice for sweeping the concrete almost bare of snow.

I look after 20 driveways and my Toro 721R blew away everything,,wet and slushy, knee deep,, it works better than my 6 year old 2 stage 24 inch compact ariens. The paddles are wider on the one stage which makes it much better to deal with the wet / slushy stuff,,all the 2 stage did was burp it out. = useless

Before today’s gas with ethanol in it, I wonder how many repairs were fuel related vs. the amount today? I have read that about 8 out of ten non start and hard running conditions are fuel related these days. I was thinking about how hard small engines work for people today. Despite the neglect and lack of maintenance, they keep chugging along surprisingly long.

Here's the EASY thing to try first. I watched another video where a guy sells a carb cleaner kit for about $40. It screws into the threads that hold the float bowl on. It back flushes through there. What the heck, I thought. I went to Menards and bought a $3 can of carb cleaner spray. I shoved the tube up that bowl tube and sealed the gap with my fingers. Sprayed for a few seconds. Then removed the intake air box and sprayed into that. I then worked the float up and down while spraying towards the valve. Some fresh gasoline and it started and ran well! I have the EXACT same model as shown.

I have a single stage MTD blower and the belt cover keeps losing screws. Any suggestions on how to keep them in? Increase the size of the thread? Removable loc-tite? I only have 2 left holding the whole cover on.

Can you rethread to the next size up?? You can also get the thread attachements. This is a canadian amazon site but something like this.

OK, this carb seems like mine...Except mine has the jet threaded in from the side, but the nozzle threads out....My nozzle had a white coating on it, had to soak the nozzle and jet before the thing would run OK again. Never had issues like this with the old simple two stroke tecumseh carb... And yes, the oil is pain to fill, you really need a long thin goose neck funnel. It is easy to understand how people might tilt the darn thing back to fill it resulting in too much oil...

Bruce do the oem carburetors on this unit have issues. Mine has been replaced about two or three years ago. Today I ran it to take gas out for season, and it leaked out again thru the overflow.
Should I get a universal replacement Carb? Could use your help, thanks.

No i think the needle and seat are getting contaminated with something. They get gummed up from sitting too. If your gas is older that a month old I would get new gas. I mean when the gas was purchased from the gas station. Good luck

I am frustrated with this blower. It starts once in a year only and then I manually clean the heavy snow for the rest of the season. This blower is expensive but does not work.....

It may have a valve issue. Take off the valve cover. Check to see if the valves are not properly set on the rocker arms.

Use Non-Ethanol fuel. I have a Toro 621 that is 7 years old and never had anything but Non-Ethanol run thru it. Starts up every winter and never had the carburetor off of it.

At 11:55 mark your gloves at looking a little tattered. Lol. The reason why I laugh is I have NEVER made it through a job without those 5 OR 7 mil gloves not ripping. If you don't wear your gloves though, some armchair quarterback will jump all over you. Seems to me they are missing the point of the instruction and handing out a grade for your performance. MAKE YOUR OWN VIDEO! Thats what goes through my mind.(still laughing) Heres the best use for those gloves when the job is over. Clean hands with orange cleaner and put on the gloves. 5 minutes later, remove gloves and wipe with paper towel before messing up the kitchen sink with grease. Happy Wife,Happy Life. Wow, that was a tangent ehh? Happy New Year buddy.

I am not very mechanically inclined but I'm better than my dad was. I've watched a lot of carb cleaning videos and I think, for me, I'd be better off cleaning jet holes with a "sturdy" fishing line than a thin wire. Otherwise, I know I'd screw something up, widen a hole or something. Especially cuz the carb on my current mower is all (or mostly) plastic.

You could use the wire from inside a twist tie.

Well I understand. However, you are not watching a Steven Spielberg production. I went to your channel and noticed you have not made any videos. So, I will make you a deal!!! I will make sure I improve my videos and at the same time I want you to make one video of something you like. I will watch it and enjoy your effort. This is a very difficult thing to do on a budget as there is only one person producing the entertainment. There is no one else doing this. Including----- Ideas, Filming, Production and Editing, Sound and Lighting. I hope you enjoy my other productions and I truly want you to enjoy my other videos.
Let me know when you make a video.
