  • You start your (lawnmower, snow blower, chipper, tiller), and it dies when you open up the choke. Very frustrating! But it's a simple fix. It's usually a clogged jet (the bolt at the bottom of the carburetor bowl that holds it on). Clamp the fuel line, clean out the jet, and you're fixed!
    See how in this short video. You can do it; you're a homesteader!

    Thanks for that. Cleaned the carb but didn't realise about the holes in that bolt! One question, why do Americans wash off the shell protection on eggs so you then have to refrigerate them?

    • @HappyWifeAcres
      @HappyWifeAcres  Рік тому +7

      The US mandates egg washing because chicken farms cram too many layers in barns. They hens are stressed, immunities drop, and salmonella and e-coli get out of control. Other countries don’t stress their hens and give them room to live. Americans make such bad choices when it comes to food. Nutrition is sacrificed in the name of efficiency.

    The fuel line you clamped off is for the primer, won’t shut off the flow of fuel ???

    How old is the snowblower? I didn’t know the main jet was part of the float bowl bolt, I thought it was up in the carburetor more above the float?

    I have a Tecumseh engine on my older snowblower, and today I just replaced the carb with a brand new one. It still only runs with choke on. How do i adjust fuel mixture - or whatever else needs doing?? Thanks

      Same issue I'm having. Although, put a new carb on it last season and it worked fine.. Made sure to drain it completely for the summer.. But now, both carbs which are clean are doing the same thing. Replaced sparkplug.. I'm at a loss.

      with your new carb still not working correctly, I'd suspect you aren't getting enough fuel from the tank...Check the filter/screen/valve to make sure you have a good flow. Verify you got the choke linkage hooked up correctly too!
      Then, 'older' engine= might be time to adjust the valves- and check to make sure the spark arrestor screen in the muffler isn't plugged; that alone can really mess up how a carburetor works.

    What happens if u keep running it on choke? Can it damage anything?

    • @HappyWifeAcres
      @HappyWifeAcres  Рік тому +3

      The choke is there to make the fuel mixture richer. Keeping it on choke will cause it to burn more fuel and foul the spark plug. The engine is designed to operate with a certain mixture, so it’s best to fix the problem before you cause another one.

      Never use the engine only on choke because it will overheat and you risk damaging all the gaskets and, in a worst case scenario, even end up with a seized piston!

      @@cristiandemirel1918 Never heard of this in my life. The choke being on is richer fuel so it will by far never overheat. Ran an old mower like that for 20 years because it was just a getter mower and at the time prices for carbs and such were so high and parts were so hard to get without paying more than high for the high cost, we left the choke on. It actually died out because of something totally different. It's not good to run em like that but carb cleaner and fuel system cleaners do wonders.
