Lab is chemically, physically, optically the same as natural. It is designed and engineered in a lab, which to me is very impressive. After spending ten thousands of dollars on jewelry for my wife over the years (Natural diamonds), I came across a factory on Reddit who sells lab diamonds (For like 50% off the market price), I purchased her an amazing tennis bracelet, Even big brands such as James Allen are selling lab diamonds 90% of the time, more and more people understand that natural diamonds are mostly a marketing gimmick. diamonds are not actually all that rare. Their value comes from the DeBeers being able to control their flow into the market
Diamonds are not rare, but Diamonds with color and clarity are insanely rare, close to 95%+ Diamonds which seems to be of Good color and clarity fail the test, and diamonds are not like oil or gold to be concentrated in particular area where you could setup huge rigs to mine, Earth Depths where these are found - Gold 1Km-4Km, Oil 1Km-6Km, Diamonds 150Kms-200Kms

we have diamond factory ,i want to say one thing that making diamond jewelary is harder than gold , i can say process is very complicated ,diamond gone from various stages to look elated. and 35%of rough diamond are being wasted in making process.

Diamonds are crystals. Ice is also a crystal. If you don't consider lab grown diamonds as real diamonds, then you don't consider fridge ice as "real" ice because it didn't crystalize naturally.

I use the cultured pearl analogy. Mikimoto built an empire on pearl manufacturing. The pearl divers of his time were calling his pearls fakes all the way to the unemployment line. A pearl is a pearl. A diamond is a diamond.
Same with a tree or plant that was grown in the wild vs one that was grown in a nursery. It’s the exact same thing, they were just grown in different ways.
It's just not the same thing. Chemically, yes. Mechanically, yes. But the process of growth and the rarity of the gems make natural diamonds more precious, and therefore more valuable.
@@baguazhang2 The only rare diamonds are very large like 4+ carat, nearly colorless, perfect cut and virtually no inclusions. The typical diamond that the general public would purchase are a dime a dozen. The only thing that makes them so expensive is a great marketing scheme,it is part of the culture to buy your wife a diamond ring, women are conditioned to expect it, it’s a scam.
Man-made diamonds would be an easy substitute for natural diamonds if they were significantly cheaper than they currently are. Moissanite on the other hand is a great replacement for diamonds - extremely affordable, very shiny, almost as hard, available in multiple colours, and the quality only keeps getting better.
If it gets cheaper it wouldn't be as precious and desirable

@@user-kpkxgtj very few care about the actual looks of the jewelry, it's all about how much it costs or at least seems to cost to others. It's often subconscious, but essentially people want to wear and show off a pricetag. Manmade diamonds will eventually kill off the diamond mining industry, but not because people will prefer them, but because of them it'll be impossible to tell at a glance how much is on someone's finger, diamonds will stop being status symbols and if they are not that then what good are they for at all? People will find some other bling to show off.
I completely disagree relative to cost when you are looking at a high quality diamond especially when the carrots get larger you can buy junk diamonds for the same money as good quality man made diamonds but if you want good quality mine diamonds you're gonna pay big money
@@aleksandersuur9475 from this comment section it would seem natural diamonds are here to stay - people have a very strong emotional connection to the idea of natural diamonds and consider the lab grown ones to be fake. I'm actually shocked De Beers and Co haven't started a campaign that goes like "the only real diamonds are the mined kind and if it didn't cost half a year's salary it's not worth it". I agree, lots of people want to wear a huge price tag. I'm quite confident the players in the diamond trade will find a way to use that fact to keep business booming for a long time (calling natural diamonds an "investment" is already a popular strategy). As lab grown stones get cheaper (but with De Beers in the lab grown business who knows whether the prices will really go down significantly?) and Moissanite quality gets better, those who only want sparkle at the most cost-effective price are in for a treat.
My diamond ring is lab grown, and it was a decision my fiancé and I made together. It's as clear and sparkly as a natural diamond that would be waaaaaaayyyy out of our price range. I kind of like that lab grown diamonds are making the diamond much more accessible.

I never understood the hype for diamonds. There are many, many more gems that truly outshine and are so much more beatiful - including opals! Even salt & pepper diamonds are way more interesting, and they're considered "flawed".

In my teens, in the early 2000s, I had mentioned to several people that I would never want a diamond engagement ring; rather I’d choose sapphire or something with color. Every single person I mentioned this to gave the same reaction: I was told I was silly, stupid, or crazy as they rolled their eyes.
While window shopping in a franchise jewelry store, I made this declaration of not caring for diamonds. The clerk didn’t even have a response, & said gemstone rings aren’t available in the engagement ring selection.

My Grandma gave me the diamond out of her old engagement ring. It is real and my fiancée loves it. Personally I don’t see the appeal either. I’m just glad I got a free one because they’re way overpriced

You're not alone my friend. I told a jeweler that I wanted an opal ring and she gave me this very long spiel about how diamonds are better because they last forever, don't break, don't have to be replaced, blah blah blah. The problem is, they still fall out of their settings and you do have to sometimes replace them. So what's the difference between replacing a pricey small diamond and an affordable opal?
My family owns 3 jewelry stores and I can tell you diamonds are the biggest scams ever pulled on people.
We received a few samples of lab grown diamonds recently and are considering to switch our entire supply from natural diamonds to lab grown but that’s the easy part because most our clients think lab grown diamonds are fake or not as good and prestigious as the mined ones so it’s slow process because of the risks involved.
What about other gemstones? Are their prizes justified?

Environmentally, humanitarianly and even aesthetically, lab-grown diamonds are clearly superior. It’s unfortunate that due to the historically outstanding PR of the diamond trade, it’s so difficult to turn the tide of public perception. I hope we eventually make the transition as a society.
@@DocBree13 For luxury products it's all about marketing and perceived status gains. It's the same reason "hand made" and other signs of authenticity and scarcity that do not necessarily affect the quality of the emd product still demands a premium. People pay more because the fact that they can afford it and others cannot is a large part of the appeal.
i have heard that lab grown diamonds generally have fewer flaws than diamonds from nature.
as with most status symbols, the difference between marketing and scams is a matter of perception. gold, silver and other gems are in the same category as diamonds. even "organic" food can be considered a marketing scam, as there is no clear definition and natural pathogens in food sometimes kill.
I’m a gemologist and have been working in the diamond industry for twenty years. I can say that there is absolutely no difference between lab grown and mined diamonds.

Before seeing this video De Beers had achieved a permanent negative brand with almost everyone I know. Now that I’ve seen this, not only is there no way in hell we’d buy from them, we will now only support open market purchasing of man-made gems. It is nuts to pay more for a product because it is defective. If you want imperfection for esthetic reasons, buy hand made rugs and pottery.
But its a one time investment for a ring that lasts decades and for generations. Versus clothing that you buy that gets replaced every other month or the thousands of cows that you eat through your life time or the amount of animals you slaughter for the leather in your car seats. Its all about perspective

@@sew_gal7340 I think I failed in communicating my central point: having a diamond indeed could last for many many generations, and provide lifetime meaning to the recipient. No question. But what is so valuable about a natural diamond which, in practice means it has at least some flaw in it, versus a perfect stone made by science and engineering? And requiring such a huge premium, which in turn causes misery to a huge part of the world. By all means buy the diamond, but make it a synthesized diamond with no money flowing through companies like De Beers. And like the relationship a bride and groom dream of, it is perfect!

@@syrupybrandy2788 I agree with your first part, i was just saying there is no difference between a "blood" diamond, and that H&M shirt that you bought and continue to buy consistently throughout the years. The only difference is that with the diamond you've only exploited once, with the clothing industry you continue to exploit poor and underpaid children. I'm not saying youre wrong, i'm just saying it seems hypocritical of these documentaries to make it seem like diamonds are so evil when the fast fashion industry is 100x worse with not only abuse of the poor but of the environment as well.

It has irritated me for a long time that so much of the Diamond craze is so utterly contrived. Diamonds are cool. They are even useful.
But they are not worth the trouble the exploitation of the global sourcing and marketing has caused.

When Australia found diamonds in it's north west lands, De Beers wanted to buy them. They said no, because Australian Trading and Commerce laws prohibited geographic monopolies. After this announcement, the price of De Beers stock market shares went down by 30%. Australia has a large range of colored diamonds.
Cause they need to buy all the diamond mines they can.
Their company is built using a monopoly structure with advertising to make people think they are rare.
Their brainwashing of the population and the rarity of diamonds is slowly being worn down.
But will still be long time before it's gone if ever.
i think red diamonds in particular are in oz and those are the most valuable of all diamonds just due to scarcity.

I love my lab grown diamond engagement ring. I was able to get my dream ring that would have cost $25-30k for a mined diamond which is absolutely bonkers. My partner spent about $4500 which is a much more reasonable amount. It's my dream ring and has sentimental value forever. I'm so glad lab diamonds are an option!!

And once worn even that $4500 ring is now only worth a couple of $100 at best. Diamonds are massively marked up, it's silly.
Truth is yes if they're given or percieved to be value. Once people are prepared to pay what is perceived or accepted as a quality stone you have a market. Swarovski after all is glass cut in a particular way.
Great video my daughter just turned 21A few months ago and I bought her one carrot lab grown diamond earrings, they are fantastic I will never buy a mined diamond again.
"two month's salary" I remember that. I realized at that moment that De Beers was evil. I vowed never to buy a diamond that had been tainted by their curse.
Tbh in my eyes the natural pearl is much more precious than diamonds because it was actually grown by a living thing over time.

This has nothing to do with what's beautiful but how you can control an industry. For example, 75% of pearls sold aren't natural, they are cultured.
Lab grown diamonds I feel are alot better for the environment, feel like it prevents the destruction of land by digging mines and stuff. And it's alot cheaper and who cares where it's from it's still a diamond
I remember an old 60 minutes episode about diamonds from YEARS ago. Russia was in need of a lot of stuff but had a hard time buying it. Medicines, etc. They showed a warehouse full of diamonds and the reporter asked why they didn't sell them. They were told if they sold all those diamonds on the open market that children would be playing with them like jumble jacks in the street. Diamonds are kept high priced and it's a sham in my opinion. They are worthless.
And one of the longest running shams. I think because of the internet, many shams are being exposed....because it's easier to piece things together. And easy...with a few clicks...so people delve.

its crazy how we overvalue a stone whose best use is in industrial applications. in reality, diamonds should be around the same value of other gems like ruby and emerald. as a result, alot of the conflict in africa could and would have probably been avoided. on the other hand, gold is limited by its carat and the value added by the labor of jewelry, we have created a scenario where diamonds don't follow this as people overpay for "imperfections" and other insignificant characteristics
Rubies, sapphires and emerald of quality are far more expensive per carat than diamonds.
Emeralds and rubies are the elite of the stones..diamonds don't come anywhere near it.

As a part of the jewelry industry, I wish you guys had touched on another reason why diamonds are still the best option for heirloom quality fine jewelry. They’re the only gemstone that can withstand decades of daily wear and still look as good as they day you bought them. Diamonds are unparalleled in their longevity, and are the easiest gemstone to work on when repairing. Because they can withstand high heats they don’t need special attention or protection when repairing with lasers or torches, and are durable enough that you can file and polish directly over them without worrying about damaging the stone. THATS another major reason why diamonds, be they lab created or natural, will probably continue to lead the industry in sales of fine gemstones.
That's not true. Moissanite lasts longer than diamonds. Diamonds are not that, though and they chip and crack pretty easily. Moissanite is thougher than diamonds, it is more beautiful than diamonds and for a fraction of the cost.
@@jadmsaber1 to be correct diamond has a hardness 10 grade and moissanite is 9.25 on the scale. so it isn't tougher. But i would still buy a moissanite or maybe just maybe when i ever would buy one I'd buy a grown diamond

First, Hardness is how much a material can resist scratches and wear, and it is ranked on the Mohs scale from 1 to 10. Diamonds are 10 the hardest and moissanite 9.25 the second hardest on the earth. Second, thoughness is a material ability to withstand pressure and force applied to it before it cracks. Moissanite is remarkably tougher than diamonds, as it can survive direct hits without breaking or shipping. In contrast, diamonds are brittle and can easily crack because they have a weak direction of cleavage. Third, stability is a material ability to resist chemicals, dust, oils etc. Moissanite is not affected by most household chemicals and repels dust and oils, while diamonds can be damaged by multiple household chemicals and attract dust and oils.
So, in summary, when it comes to durability, moissanite outranks diamonds in the two most essential parts toughness and stability.

As someone who works in fine jewelry sales in a very low to middle income area (or high income blue collar who isn't interested in but a few very special pieces of jewelry), my lab grown sales have increased a lot in the last two years, and our selection has increased about three-fold from when I first started my current job in '19.

There is absolutely 0 reason to not prefer a lab-grown diamond to a natural when it is, by definition, identical to “real” diamonds chemically, physically and optically, at a lower price, and without human suffering.
There's a chemical difference of 1 element. Im no pro but saw on google that the natural one is the prefered for the beauty category. It's allure. I had bought some in the day, now im just after gold. bitcoin is a porn scarce. i dont invest on spun.

My fiancé proposed just a few weeks ago with a GORGEOUS lab-grown diamond ring. It's a beautiful piece, everybody was floored by it (including me). I love that my ring got us a bigger bang for the buck, and that im not carrying someone's suffering on my finger.
That's the right way to look at it.

I have a moissanite and it's honestly the most beautiful diamond alternative out there. They are also made in the lab and have more flash/sparkle than actual diamonds since they have a higher refraction index.
In general, it's nice to see in the comments that people actually care about being conflict-free and that there's so many beautiful alternative stones out there! I highly recommend researching your options and finding out what's important to you when you're out there looking.
Not only more beautiful and sparkly than diamonnds, Moissanite is also thougher than diamonds. It actually outperforms diamonds or any other similar gemstones in every aspect.
The optical properties of moissanite are just flat out better than diamond, unless you prefer less color and brilliance.

When my partner told me he was planning on giving me an engagement ring, I asked him not to give diamonds. After carefully considering other gems, I decided to go for a classy one, a 0.5ct moissanite. Only a fraction of the price of a lab grown diamond. No family or friends know that it is not a real diamond. Besides, no one really cares anyway.
I’d rather a lab grown diamond over moissanite, if i were looking for alternatives i’d get a lab grown sapphire
I think we already have a precedent regarding on how artificial diamonds will affect the industry:
Cultured pearls.
Artificial diamonds will become the majority of the diamonds on the market.
Natural diamonds will still have demand among the ultra rich.
Not when the bottom falls out of the natural diamond market. Rich people want diamonds because they *"hold their value"...used to. I'm no expert, but aren't we seeing a continued slide in the value of natural diamonds? As more people become aware of lab-grown diamonds and of the conspiracy to prop up the diamond market, the public will buy more lab-grown diamonds. Afterall, costs less and more fire and about the same hardness.
Apparently there is currently no test that can distinguish between natural and lab grown. Rich people will stop buying "new" diamonds, and stick to stones that have a well documented provenance.

I was grateful my wife wanted a very specific type of stone. She wanted an Opal, which is uncommon, and waaay cheaper than diamonds. FYI, not all opals are ethically sourced either, so please do your research before purchasing one. They're also very soft compared to diamonds and other stones like rubies, so they may become scratched and dull overtime

My "engagement" ring, is a replacement my husband bought for one of our anniversaries. It's a deep pink, 4 carat, pear shape sapphire, and it's lab grown. It looks flawless more than ten years of daily wear, it cost practically nothing, and I get compliments on it everywhere. I wouldn't buy mined diamonds if they were free. Herkimer diamonds, moisanite, and other lab created stones look better, the colorless mined diamonds wash my paddle skin out and make me look like a cadaver. Not worth the money.
I think people got scared of the lab diamond not having the same value as mined diamonds but the rebranding of the lab diamonds might be it's saving Grace. For example one approach to selling lab pressed diamond by offering people the opportunity to choose it as an alternative to cremation or burial. On the day of your death turning your body's ashes into lab pressed diamond to be handed down to your children in memorial and as an inheritance is too hard to resist. THAT'S GOING TO BE BIG BUSINESS. IF THEY HAVE AN IPO I NEED TO BUY IN NOW!

There’s no way to predict the color or quality. Also, cremation jewelry ends up in thrift stores eventually when people die and whoever cleans out their home doesn’t know what it is. I’d rather have my loved one’s ashes scattered or interred.

What the video didn’t mention is that the pre loved market is a huge draw as well as you can find a really beautiful ring for frankly 1/16 of the price. My cousin found her dream ring of two carats for only $500 at a local pawn shop.

Actually, it may have been 1 carat that she got looking back at it now, my bad. The design was from the nineties and while she loves it some people in our family called it "dated" so that possibly got her that good of a deal as well.
Bought my wife a cubic zirconia ring as our wedding ring cause we were broke. Everyone always commented how good the ring looked with the nice “diamond” in it. Regular folks can’t tell the difference and unfortunately my wife got robbed last year and the guy stole the ring thinking it was a diamond. We are only out the 70 usd we paid for the ring instead of the 5k I was planning to save and spend on a “real diamond”. The diamond industry is a scam that 99% of people can’t tell the difference between the rocks. Wish I could have been at the pawnshop when they told the robber the ring was worthless.

The qualities of Moissanites are enhanced so it's better than the real Diamonds. I would definitely recommend everyone getting it cause it's more eco friendly and shinier. Anyway, I'd still like a Diamond; at least a few to own.
If DB would release all of their diamonds to the market at once, the price of diamonds would drop like a rock and be super cheap. Gotta admit though, their marketing is the best ever, they convinced us that this shiny rock is a must have to show of wealth.

This only teaches us that humans are extremely greedy animals, only run after shiny stuff, give them value.
Diamonds are not as rare as most people think they are, they are very common compared to other elements in the ground its just marketing and controlling the supply in order not to flood the market and destroy its current price, so the idea of the ones made in a lab makes it less spacial is insane and am sure that they will always try and make it be that way in order for them to keep insane money. gold is significantly rarer than diamonds are.
There is no doubt that Diamonds are beautiful. But anybody who can mentally justify paying the hideously expensive price demanded for any High Grade diamond, especially those of 2carats up, are insane when you can get a lab to make you a custom sized, clear, flawless, colourless 'diamond' that is indistinguishable to the naked eye from a natural diamond.
Also there is a new movement in Gem Cutting as Lapidarists now have easy access to new Spectral Imaging of the stone, 3D Imaging software where they can do a virtual cut of the stone before the real one and superior Laser Tech allowing perfect cuts & facets on the outside but also cuts/shading/etc INSIDE the stone.
Wouldn't you rather have a Pixel Cut, Starbrite Cut, Pharaoh's Eye Cut, etc of the many hundreds of new truly unique and gorgeous cuts instead of another Princess Cut? I know I would.

Got my fiancée a lab grown diamond. Almost 3 carats cost me close to 4k. It’s a princess cut on cathedral setting. Very nice and clear, nobody knows it’s lab grown and all her engaged and non engaged friends beam with jealousy in a good way lol

Diamond engagement and wedding rings came into fashion because of Hollywood movie hype that advertised them for the diamond businesses. The worth of mined diamonds is due to artificially controlled supply to increase the price for demand. Cultured pearls are no longer considered second rate. Cultured gems may take longer for equal esteem, but they may soon outsell the mined gems.
I personally think Opal is the most beautiful gem in the world. Seriously. Especially Australian Opal. I bought my girl one set in sterling silver on a necklace a year ago and she was elated. 🍻

Glad to see this vedio and terribly disturbed to know the FACT in dimond market. What really matter to me is the honestly and integrity of each brand they offer. I don't mind lab-grown STONE but the sales should tell or label "the product" with it's origin/source to customer before any transaction.
When you buy a diamond, you get a certificate with the origin of your diamond. All lab diamonds are laser inscribed with their number on the rim.
I liked the video overall, but there was a weird switch to unintuitive units when discussing lab grown diamonds. 7:23 we talk about "market awareness". Then provide sales datain units of carats, whereas we were using dollars for De Beers at 6:02 so I don't have a frame of reference.

Diamonds wouldn't be so bad if only companies sold them at a fair, uninflated prices and if they didn't exploit the poor so much. I also can't completely blame the diamond industry for this "scam" that diamonds are rare and are the symbol of love since, at the end of the day, it's still people's gullibility and ignorance that is at fault if they buy into a scam. The diamond industry never forced people to buy diamonds, it was still people's free choice so the main fault is still in people's ignorance.
