    A lot of people saying it's £50 at Halfords, I bought this one last summer for my mums car but never used it and when I bought it, it was £25/30 I would never pay £50 for it! Check eBay lads may be cheaper and you can still return the can at Halfords still

      Unfortunately... there has been a change in the law of the sale of these ... due to the environmental harm the price of these products have increased... I have experience in a garage and the canisters we typically bought for £80 have risen to £300 - £400 hence the increase in the price of these canisters as well... any local garage have increased the AC recharge price to between £80 - £120 dependant on vehicle... we used to charge around £45, however it is more expensive to buy...It's the new law... the gas is more expensive everywhere... It's better to just have it done in a garage from now on

      not only law, but the price of the gas goes very high because of the new gas for new Air Cons.

    It worked on my MK2 Focus, by the way, it say's do not attempt to charge if the gauge reads in the red empty zone, I found i had to initially charge into the yellow zone to get the compressor to kick in, once it did, the needle dropped back to the start of the green and I got a lot more charge in, system now works perfectly.

    Dont forget, with the halfords stuff you get £10 back if you take the empty can back in. You will need your receipt. Also you should always use your air-con periodically. Even through the winter. The gas has an oil atomised within it, and this helps to lubricate the air con pump. So occasionally running it helps to keep the system conditioned.

    I had my a/c filled up by a mobile service 40quid he told me never use one of them cans.when you refill your a/c first they suck the system out even if it's empty then they pressure test it if that's ok then they put a lubricant in the system to stop corrosion & lubricate the a/c pump.Then when they put the refrigerant in they place the gas can on scales because it goes by weight

    You should run A/C for at least 20 minutes every month, regardless of the time of year, as it stops the seals in the system from drying out and causing leaks. Also using A/C in the winter acts purely as a dehumidifier and helps clear steamed up windows faster.

    • @coses4957
      @coses4957 6 років тому +2

      And turn it off 10 minutes before you arrive so the "codensator", don't know if that is the proper word, and the other internals dry so you prevent it from smelling moldy.

    • @B2091
      @B2091 6 років тому +1

      Coses Gaming
      Shouldn’t make much difference. The smell comes from bacteria and dirt build up on the evaporator coil.
      Even with a cabin filter in place some muck gets by and matted on the coil.
      Best way to prevent the smell is to clean off the coil and use A/C coil cleaner with anti bacteria and fungicide

    Ideally, it needs a vacuum to check for leaks, as you may have a hole in the condenser, but air con gas contains oil to lubricate the compressor, might be worth getting it done properly? Great vid though, love the channel

    You mention you used it on 2 other cars before this one. Was it the same canister or was it a different canister ? If it was the same canister for all 3 cars then it seems the airco only needs a small amount to be filled or it's quite a big canister. I think i will find this for my zafira as the airco doesn't work well.

    A lot of aircon fail on cars due to not being used and the seals on the pipe work dry up and leak the gas out of the joints to stop this from happening is to run the aircon once everyweek for a few mins just to pump the gas and oils around the system to keep the seals from drying out that way the aircon gas has minimal chance from leaking away to the atmosphere

    With the same Halfords Kit all good, but connection to cylinder big leak, so soon had an empty bottle. So back to store £10 off a fresh bottle and exchanged trigger/gauge . Now screwed into fresh bottle and big leak. So unscrewed quickly but internal washer was ripped 'again' and parts had jammed into the new bottle schrader type valve Needed to place small o-ring over the threads of the then new bottle to stop any leaks . I'm going back to the store again as the STP (made in China) gauge/hose has a rubbish re-usable connection it would seem

    You don't fill an a.c. system as they are sealed systems. If it's got no gas in there's a leak. Just sticking gas in it will drag moisture in and change the oil in the comp to acid. Also I didn't think you could buy this over the counter now with an up to date fgas?

    well you should of made your own A/C history,by checking it for leaks first,then do vacuum to remove all the air from the system,and then fill with R134A,as I can hear the sound of air inside the system when you turned it own,like it's pushing the gas ,and there is restriction.

  • @stuart121972
    @stuart121972 6 років тому +2

    I have to agree with others, I was always told that with air con you need to "use it, or loose it". When I've owned vehicles with air con I have it on all year round. In winter it clears misted windscreens much quicker, I think it's something to do with the humidity of the air.
    The van I've just bought needed a regas, cost me £70 at an independent garage which included a check for leaks, now that it's working it'll be on all the time 😊

  • @kanifuker721

    It's £80 now or if you want to be daft it's £79.98. I've ordered a kit from Thompsons just now for £55 with delivery for £60 but you get 3 x cannisters and the guage/hose and one of the cannisters is a leak repairer. Halfords is a rip off merchant.

    Might aswell have not bothered filling it if you only plan to use it occasionally. That's why it doesn't work lack of use. You waste more fuel driving with a window down that running the air con. It's great in the winter for dehumidifying the interior also

    • @samsmith8177
      @samsmith8177 6 років тому

      Campbell actually that's wrong, using air con puts more load on the engine and as a result it uses more fuel to run. Although having the windows down causes drag it's still more fuel efficient in comparison to using air con.

    • @Wetthewhistle
      @Wetthewhistle 6 років тому +2

      Sam Smith It'll only make a notable difference to engine load if the car has a very small engine, anything with a decent size engine ticking over an air con pump is nothing

    • @samsmith8177
      @samsmith8177 6 років тому +2

      Campbell Yea that's true, smaller the engine the harder it's going to be working to drive the pump and the car, as long as you're cool who cares about fuel in hot weather ! Can't stand being in a car in this heat.

    Better to get a pro to do it correctly, vacuum out the old gas, pressure test for leaks and refill, normally £30 and it takes 1 to 2 hours doing it correctly. I would be all for DIY if there was a saving, but there is none in this case IMO.

  • @james42519
    @james42519 6 років тому

    sure others said already but refrigerant is not something that is supposed to run out. there is a leak somewhere. it is something that should stay full all the time like the ac in the house. you don't have to fill them up now. you can also overfill it and that is as bad as under fill. this is temp and you should get the rubber seals/gaskets that are leaking fixed.

  • @shifty2755
    @shifty2755 3 роки тому

    High pressure is the smaller pipe. Low pressure is the bigger pipe.

  • @danielfl.9347
    @danielfl.9347 6 років тому

    This is incorrect, but fine on an old car. Correctly done, the system will be drained from pressure, new oil in the compressor, repressurised as well as freon and that is it. It takes around 45 minutes just the vacuum the system. What you have done will create moisture and dirt in the system, but it is completely fine if you don't want the car to last more than 2-4 years. BTW use your system at least 2 times a month.

    So I don't know why my ac doesn't work. Fans work, compressor works, I have checked the pressure by pressing on the valve with a screwdriver and there is pressure. Idk I might just take it to a garage.

    usually means the condenser or some other component is leaking. there didnt appear to be any gas in it whatsoever when you started

    Gone of the days I had to waste £50 of my own cash to take a refrigerant handling course these cans I guess are okay but not amazing because proper ac machines vacuum all the old shit out the system and all the moisture than checks for leaks than refills with dye and Pag oil than the gas all of this gas is getting more pricey due to a shortage of gas

      +Kevin Cudmore - It's also used as a propellant in inhalers which are prescribed to asthma sufferers. You definitely need a licence here in Europe to handle it in an automotive capacity. though. Bit of a dichotomy really.

      paulanderson79 it isn't used in any of my inhalers.. I don't know where you got that info from.

      +Kevin Cudmore HFC-134a is exactly the same as R-134a. It's listed on the canister of many of mine.

    Good video but it's not worth doing yourself. That gauge doesn't tell you if you have the correct amount of gas is in the system for that vehicle. You could be over filling it. It's better to go to a air con specialist who can put the correct amount of gas in for that vehicle by weight.... it's a good video but how do you know you haven't over filled the system? Over filling is worse than having little gas in the system.. I wouldn't touch these kits.

      Chris not strictly true,irregardless of the weight of gas that a system holds(and i have worked on small cars that hold about 750 grams,right upto big combine harvesters that can hold 4000 grams),they all run at the same low/high pressures,so it can be done on system pressures alone

    I have be F-Gas certified for professional use for refrigerant handling and how to do this procedure correctly.
    This is not the correct way to re gas a vehicle, the system may be under or over charged as it is done with a weight of gas, also the system has not been vaced out.
    The price of R134a has not shot right up with the manufacture demand no longer there and is now roughly £500 for 12kg conpared to 4-5 year ago for the same amount was about £60.
    This gas is highly dangerous and its a joke the joe public can buy this.
    This one my friend gets a thumbs down just based on the subject and my strong views against untrained people handling refrigerant systems.

      402 R143a indeed if not handled correctly is highly dangerous.
      This can cause extreme freeze burns if the incorrect thermal protection is not worn, also the gas can make you very nauseous.
      Yes R1234yf I would deen more dangerous due to its flammable capacity. And Co2 is currently being trialed with Mercedes and some of the high end Audis I am led to believe.
      This would be a more viable solution for sure.
      And also gauage pressure can vary relative to atmospheric temperature.
      Running pressures usually are around 2BAR low side and around 10BAR for high side assuming ambient is around 16 Celsius

    I don't think its a great ideea, because you need the right amount of compresor oil and refrigerant put in the system. If you put to little of to mutch, it could damage the entire system.
    Please, do some research next time, let the professionals do it with proper equipment ( pulling the remaning old refrigerant out, doing a Vaccum test and filling the system ).
    I work on trucks in Germany and thats not a profesional way to do it.
    The damage will come in months of refilling inappropriately.
