    Nice work, thanks. But how to protect/monitor the sides of the car. When someone hits your vehicle door. Front and rear radar does not help in this situation right?

    • @louisrandall2007
      @louisrandall2007 Місяць тому +1

      You probably look for one of the 3 channels one and add a cabin view camera, the cabin view camera can see out the window. There are some that can add side cameras to the side mirrors, but not many options.

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  Місяць тому

      We find that front and rear coverage is plenty for the vast majority of parking situations, and while the radar will detect the impact, the cameras only capture footage of what they're pointed at. If there's a specific side you are worried about, a 3-channel camera would be sufficient, but if you want 360-degree full coverage, things get more complicated. The Thinkware Multiplexer would be a good place to start, or you can look into 2 seperate 2-channel cameras, similar to what VortexRadar has set up here: ua-cam.com/video/gSFxqHrF2Ro/v-deo.html

    What budget dash cam do you recommend for me to install in my kids car for protection with a new driver??

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  20 днів тому +1

      Depends how in-depth you want the coverage to be. Realistically, $250 should be an adequate range for coverage, with a mic for audio recording and good quality. The VIOFO A229 Plus Duo, or Thinkware Q200 2-CH would be good options.

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  18 днів тому +2

      For sure, I can help with that. The good news is that we've spoken with other Vantrue users who have gotten battery packs to work. You can really choose any of them, but the main ones I'd recommend are the PowerCell 8 or the Cellink Neo Plus. Do keep in mind that you'll need to splice a Vantrue hardwire kit to a Battery output cable to get these working together, a local electrician can do so if it's too complicated.

      Sounds like a tough situation. I recommend the A229 Plus Duo. This has the best quality rear camera out there at the moment, with Sony STARVIS 2 in the rear camera recording 2k, and you can turn on HDR to try and help with the contrast, not often offered in rear cameras.

    Hello
    Thanks for the informative review. My question is that
    1) Does the PowerCell 8 have higher capacities other than 7500mah?
    2) Do you guys sell power cable to power the power cell 8 in house (which I can use to charge the battery in the confort of my home and simply return back to the car when full)
    3) Is thinkware planning on doing anything on the image quality in terms of firmware update or the likes?
    Thank you as I anticipate your detailed response

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  5 днів тому +1

      Hi there, glad you liked the review!
      1. The PowerCell 8 has a capacity of 7500mAh. You can extend this by connected a Cellink Neo Extended (6,600mAh).
      2. Yes, you can certainly charge a battery pack in your house! All you need is the cigarette lighter adapter of the camera and a Power Inverter, we sell them here: www.blackboxmycar.com/products/blackboxmycar-power-inverter
      3. I've heard no word at firmware updates to improve Thinkware image quality, but it's possible. I can say that VIOFO is working on imrpoving it's resolution options further, such as this firmware update: viofo.com/blog/firmware-updates-viofo-a229-pro-a229-plus-version-v13-beta-b119.html

      In theory you could use a dash cam as a traditional home-security camera, however they are mainly designed for vehicle recording, and will likely run rather hot if they are recording 24/7 as if you were driving. It may be better to invest in traditional home security system like Ring or Lorex for this. Check out "The Hookup" on youtube, who has some great videos diving into this subject.

    The u3000 does a great job with heat & cold just wish they update their cloud feature, came with lte , more options alerts like tell what time it happen instead of just how many.Another thing with u3000 parking mode with my powercell 8 i havent charged the battery pack in months thanks to that now if it was a blackvue I would need to charge every day depending on long my drivers were & it was annoying really when i had to. I do wish they update their night time video it's not that good especially how much so many brag about the star 2

    • @Bacnow
      @Bacnow Місяць тому

      The U3000 has great features (especially in parking mode) but it, unfortunately, lacks HDR! I doubt that you will ever see an improvement in night driving video resolution (even with STARVIS 2)! STARVIS 2 IMX 678 + HDR + Novatek 96529 + CPL filter = best available imagery (day or night) in my opinion! That’s the configuration that most people are alluding to when they boast about STARVIS 2 image quality!

      Not currently, we're quite happy with the PowerCell 8's performance. Battery pack's as a space is evolving with new brands and features being introduced, we are watching closely to see what resonates most with people and will consider these factors when eventually going to the drawing board with the second iteration of the PowerCell 8.

    So I just returned my Q200 Thinkware... I really want motion detection while parked... Will I be happier with the viofo 229 pro 2 channel... I'm really torn... Don't wanna spend $500 + but I want a camera that can record while parked and be clear enough to zoom in and not be blurry

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  5 днів тому +1

      Hi there, sorry to hear the Q200 didn't meet your standards there. The Q200 does have motion detection, it just doesn't in the energy saving mode, so it will draw about just as much power as the VIOFO camera would, which also has motion detection.
      I will say that the A229 Pro will have significantly better image quality, with the latest sensors and HDR so even night situations will be fully covered. This is the best image quality you can get in dash cams at the moment.

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  Місяць тому

      If night recording is a top-priority, then you'll want to look for cameras sporting both Sony STARVIS 2 image sensors, and HDR, which have proven themselves as the best for recording in dark situations. Consider VIOFOs latest cameras, such as the A119 Mini 2, or the A229 Pro.

    Based on these reviews a couple years ago I bought the front/rear U1000. Don't like it. Saving a video is impossible, have or see an incident there is no 'quick save' that works (similar to my Previous Garmin). The standby eats og gobs of storage and rather than overwrite standby or parking videos, the dash cam overwrites the main footage. I am lucky to get 2 days of video history on the max size SD card. I carry two spare cards now, If I have something that I want to save I'll stop, pull the card and swap it out. It really sucks when you get that once in a blue moon incident right in front of you and you waited more than a day or two to download.
    I'll replace it, hopefully storage and ease of saving video clips is updated on these newer models.

      Overall, we've found that the image quality and features are subpar for a higher price than many comparable models out there, take our FitCamX vs A229 Plus comparison article for example, which you can find here: www.blackboxmycar.com/pages/fitcamx-vs-viofo-a229-plus-2k-qhd-dash-cam-comparison-review

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  5 днів тому

      While solar panels sounds like an exciting solution, it has proven not to be feasible at the current moment. Some members of the community have given it a shot, here is one such thread: dashcamtalk.com/forum/threads/battery-pack-battle-royal-pc8-b-130x-bab-95.49084/#post-600395

    Is a dash cam with no wires a thing or should I keep dreaming?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  12 днів тому

      Unfortunately, keep dreaming! Built-in batteries in dash cams are typically unreliable because they have limited power capacity and can degrade quickly, especially in extreme temperatures. Wired connections ensure constant power and reliable performance, which is essential for continuous recording and critical features like parking mode.
      There's been some experimentation from users with solar panels but that hasn't proven as realistic yet. You can find a few backup cameras, or other systems that aren't constantly recording using this technology though.

    If people would actually adjust their side mirrors properly, then thry wouldn't have any blind spots and would not need to use a separate mirror and block a portion of the already small side mirror.
    You should not see the side of your own car in the mirrors. Your car is going to be there, no need in watching it as you drive. They are supposed to be used to see the lane beside your vehicle, not the road behind your car. The rear view mirror is for that, heck, it is in the name. So by selling those mirrors, you are actually promoting bad driving habits, not safety, which is the basis of your company. Is it not?

    • @blackboxmycar
      @blackboxmycar  Місяць тому

      Thank you for your comment and for raising a valid point about mirror adjustment. You're right that properly adjusting the side mirrors can significantly reduce blind spots. Our add-on blind-spot mirrors are designed to complement this by providing an even wider angle view, which can be particularly helpful in heavy traffic or complex driving environments. We aim to enhance safety and ensure all drivers feel confident and secure on the road.

    I spent the past 3 years trying to find a decent front and rear dash cam setup. Lots of trash out there above all is the absolute worst of them all, the Garmin. Absolute rip off. Trash equipment and a fire hazard. Horrible customer service and eventual trash abuse you then completly ignore you. Do Not buy Garmin
    Wolfbox G850 and G900 systems are by far the absolute Best if you want it done right. And their (American English Speaking) support team is awesume. I bought another after setting one up in my kids car.
    Avoid Garmin, buy Wolfbox
