I believe this is due to less clutter in its environment. Modern games are cluttered with objects everywhere. Mirrors Edge is just so clean. Came out when textures began to be high res and models had just enough polygons to look great enough.
Amazing run. The entire thing was super entertaining. And that moment at 34:48 was the best moment of the entire run. Still remember watching the "glitchless" run for the first time like it was yesterday, and that little nod to that legendary moment made me so happy
It's so wild to me that this game still looks this good. They absolutely nailed exactly what aesthetic they could do well at the time, and it's always a blast seeing it. Also, yeah, even as a casual player, gun cops are way more of a threat than parkour cops. The parkour cops are much harder to fight, but they're always set up to chase you rather than be in your way, so realistically it's kinda like being chased by Madeline's other half in Celeste's 2nd chapter - keep moving and you're fine, stop and you die. And it's not too hard to keep moving in this game. Conversely, they stick cops with all sorts of guns in your way - snipers, who you probably want to sneak up on one and then counter-snipe the rest, guards with assault rifles, light machine guns, all sorts of nonsense. They'll beat the shit out of you in casual play, even if their aim is a bit stormtroopery.
You can actually defeat the runner cops as well by timing a side dash around the and then disarming. Faith will grab their gun and taze them. Sadly she immediately drops the tazer
I didn’t understand the hype around the first game after i played catalyst first but after playing the first game even compared to modern standards it is wayyy better than catalyst. Game barely even feels dated, the movement can be less responsive but that also makes it more punishing and rewarding. I cant believe they took guns out of the game, successfully flying off a roof and disarming a soldier to then gun down the rest is most fun pve ive ever experienced. The lack of navigation tools adds so much replay ability allowing you to fly through levels on second play throughs. The only criticisms i have for the first game is the basic story and the length of the game but for 2008 i think its acceptable. Truly wish there was a sequel on the same engine

Im surprised how many speedrunner strats i learned just to get good times in the speedrun/time trial mode. Im nowhere near this good but still cool to see how much i already understand

The graphics are incredible for 2008. This game was released same year as Fallout 3, only the graphics in that game look dated as hell now.

God, still such a beautiful series of environments. The sewers and mall still look fantastic and to this day.
