I hope Gemma Chan And all the original cast come back. Gemma had one of the best scenes/lines in the whole movie when she tells her husband she is leaving him. Her character just exuded grace and elegance.

no Gemma Chan-ASTRID no movie for me! she was the most interested character of the Movie and she gives the movie style, poise, family, power, etc.. not a lot of characters can give that.

Rascist and possibly even fueled somewhat by gender as well - glad both writers walked and I hope this fuels some change in Hollywood. Besides the success of the Bridgertons on Netflix has proven that we need to break the stereotype of casting. I just want to see excellent acting, I dont care about what race the actor is. An excellent actor makes that invisible unless its important to the role. We live in the 21st century - its high time we had 21st century thinking. We are better than this.

She had never written anything big before this movie and the white writer has FAR MORE experience. It isn’t about race. Experience in a job has a factor in pay. It just does. Nobody cares she’s Asian.
@@firehorsewoman414 Warner Brothers set the salary. They cited Adel Lim's lack of experience in film as a reason and said they couldn't breach their pay scale and set a precedent.
Lim was a very successful writer for major TV shows. Crazy Rich Asians was her 1st film script. She was brought on after the white guy finished the script to add more Asian touches to make it more "authentic." I would bet she wrote the mahjong scene. No way a white guy wrote that. She deserves major payouts for that scene alone. So what it's her 1st film script? It's a major hit. The other guy has a much shorter filmography and the only hit he had prior to CRA was The Proposal, which wasn't that great IMO.
As Lim wrote when she walked, she's seen by WB as merely a "soy sauce" after the meal was cooked. She took it as an insult and a disregard for her contributions. She's fully justified to walk. Plus, Disney offered her major dollars for Raya and the Last Dragon. She didn't need WB. There're very few Asian writers in Hollywood.
We need Gemma because her story line in the book was poignant. I can't wait for part 2.
If Gemma doesn't play Astrid I hear they're going to their Plan B Asians Jennifer Lawrence or Emma Stone.

Hollywood sucks. How can they screw up the writing situation so bad. It's simple. If you have 1.1 million to offer the two writers then split that 1.1 million and offer both the same amount. Now they don't have either of the original writers.
At least the other write was nice enough to split his check knowing it was mess up. Still I lost so much respect for WB now and I always support their DC movie even when it wasn;t the best. ( can;t let disney win all the time)

@@RaymondHng Yeah but I think he did try that and failed. He may also know they may not do it. I think action speak louder then word. To offer half you salary to someone then just try to talk to the boss (who you know don;t give a damn) and take action against the injustice to me was really awesome. There are still good people left who will fight for what is right. Sometime I don;t even talk to my boss about how crappy he treat the new people. I just take action cuz I know talking to him is pointless. In the boss head, they are always right 🙄
Also he declined the offer , now he is not part of this movie,it speak his character, it's not his fault but still he stood against it . The sad part is they didn't understand the woman writer at all .

The fact that the exec was surprised that the writer wasn’t happy with her paltry 10% of her colleagues salary is disgusting. Then they made several “lowball” offers and can’t understand why she didn’t want to accept them? Please. The first movie was one of my favorites, but the sequel doesn’t sound promising given the writing and cast changes.
If both people wrote the script equally, regardless of who is more experienced, when it comes to pay offers, divide that ish in two and pay them the same! It's not difficult kmt 😒

At least the said white male disagreed with the unequal pay since the two are responsible for the script also he knows that he doesn't have the capacity to speak against said execs without proof and how to avoid complications in the law, he decided splitting his salary not out of pity but because that is all he can do to make it right. PS I am Asian and I already heard of topics similar to this.

If Gemma isnt in it and if Harry Shum Jr’s scenes get cut again…I’ll be really disappointed.
I think it's pretty GREAT that they both left. It shows a lot of integrity, even though it probably means the second movie won't be as good. Screenwriters are honestly the most undervalued people in the business, especially if they're not white males.

I absolutely love Harry Shum jr! What a versatile actor. He’s amazing. His portrayal of Magnus in Shadowhunters was so good, and the relationship with Alec was everything!

I’m literally fucking LIVING!!! I’m soo excited for this sequel! It’s truly been a long time coming! I’m GAGGING over the plot (sadly I haven’t read the books and didn’t know what to expect) but the fact that Rachel has always BEEN rich is iconic! I can’t wait to see how everyone including the haters react to this, and I can’t wait to see how Henry responds to being the significant other to a RICH independent woman! Thanks so much for the details!!!

The China Rich Girlfriend the title of the book refers to is not Rachel. It’s Collette, girlfriend of Rachel’s half brother Carlton. Both these characters, as well as Astrid & Charlie are extremely important in books 2 & 3 and really make it story. Also they are tied to Kitty’s much larger role. Rachel’s delightfully wacky best friend Pek-Lin has several important contributions to make in books 2 & 3 as well. I highly recommend these wonderful books for any fans who haven’t read them. Despite racist comments on line, it doesn’t matter what your background is, a great story is age & colourless. I’m a boring Canadian who’s long ago ancestry is Irish & French and I’ve read the series at least 3 times. Living in Vancouver makes it more fun as our city & Whistler get some shout outs.

i'm a tad nervous to read the books now though. I hadn't planned on it, but with the wait for the second movie sooo far away, i'm interested now. i'm nervous that the movie won't live up to the books though. How did you feel movie one did compared to book one?

@@CherryChics2 I read the books when I heard the reviews and adaption news I wanted to be ahead of the curve for once. The book is more fanciful and dramatic because they have inform the read and shape the characters in your mind. Our collective individual ideas will never match the production. Never and I say this as a writer who hopes to have my work adapted as well.
@@CherryChics2 currently reading the last book of the trilogy, they aren’t identical of course but i think the movie follows along closely enough with the book (considering the fact that they didn’t expect to make a sequel and the first book is over 500 pages long) so you don’t have that feeling of “wow this sucks in comparison”. i feel like i can appreciate both the movie and the books since i watched the movie first and loved it.
Gemma Chan was my favorite! I really hope she comes back. The movie was so good and such a success that it would be a slap in the face to fans if she didn't return!

The one thing I am extremely looking forward to is Astrid's relationship with Harry's character ❤️❤️❤️. Both Gemma and Harry are a delight to watch and from what I've seen in short videos, they have great chemistry and incredible dance skills. We knew that about Harry, but Gemma was a surprise for me 🤭🤭🤭
I really hope she returns for the second movie and I know that, while a busy man himself, Harry would undoubtedly love to be a part of this franchise.

Yay!! The first movie is what inspired me to read all the books, but the story changes a lot from the first movie so hopefully, movie-only fans won't get too disappointed. Unless they make massive changes to the plotline to meet those expectations, which I hope they don't.

@@architecstar4165 I also watched the movie first & I’m in the same boat because the movie cut out & changed a lot that was pretty important to the story but then again they had to write something that would bring a large audience & only have so much time to tell it on screen.
The movie was a lot better than the books, which were just a poor imitation of Jilly Cooper's books.
Oh man I loved the first one. Was watching it once a week when it was first on HBO Max.

If you read the consecutive books she only pops in once Rachel's bio father was impressive and wealthy as well or with gossip here and there. The focus moves from them exclusively to more supporting characters and new faces.

If anyone should play rachels father I feel like Tony Leung would be a great pick in my opinion. Loved him in Shang Chi as the father in that movie, and I feel like he could really set the tone for rachels father. Either way I'm excited to see what happens next.
