    3:23 Diagnosis of Abdominal adhesions
    3:51 Treatment of Abdominal adhesions
Abdominal adhesions are bands of fibrous or scar-like tissue that forms between abdominal tissues and organs, especially after an abdominal surgical procedure.
    • Abdominal adhesion begins to form within the first few days after surgery, but symptoms may not appear till after months or even years.
    • Normally, internal tissues and organs are made up of slippery surfaces that keep them from sticking together and allow them to shift easily as the body moves.
    • However, abdominal adhesions cause tissues and organs in the abdominal cavity to stick together.
    • Abdominal adhesions might connect the loops of the intestines to each other, to the wall of the abdomen, or to nearby tissues.
    • They can also pull the small and the large intestine out of place, causing an internal obstruction.
    • Adhesions are normal surgical outcome, about 93% of people who have abdominal surgery develop an adhesion.
    • The risk of abdominal adhesion is greater in people who have had operations on the lower abdomen and pelvis, including bowel and gynecological surgeries.
    • Adhesions do not cause any problem, but when they do, they can partly or completely block or obstruct the intestines causing severe abdominal pain.
    • Intestinal obstruction requires immediate medical attention.

My adhesions started when I was 12 when my appendix were ready to rupture. Had a hysterectomy at 21 due to adhesions. They totally destroyed everything but a small piece of my ovary was left so I would not go through menopause. I am 64. I still suffer from adhesions every day. I have had blockages, emergency surgery. 2 lysis of adhesions. Last major one was a huge Blood clot developed in my abdomen it was 8 inches long by 3 inches wide by 5 inches deep. The wound was left open so no stitches. They used a wound vac to close it up. It took 6 weeks of me going to the office for them to make sure it was closing correctly. That really hurt. I was told by my surgeon that they will only go in on emergency basis. My abdomen looks like a bomb went off adhesions everywhere. I have one of the most awesome pain doctors here in San Diego. Radio frequency ablation which burns the nerve that sends the pain message to the brain has really helped. I still have major issues with them of course er dr's don't see them on any test. I'm in 10 pain asking for help and they make me wait for hours. 4 hours later they give a shot and say go home. This is last year I lost 60 pounds in a year, no appetite, hurt to eat food, severe abdominal pain, flank pain, no test showed anything. I asked that they just look answer was no. You have to just live with this until it becomes a total blockage. They are gambling with my life. I have been for over 40 years. I finally got an urologist and he did everything including a nuclear study. Guess what there is a 50 percent blockage in my urethra. He was to clear that blockage so at least these major symptoms are gone. Adhesions will never be gone. Yes I have pain everyday. But I refuse to give it. I will fight. I do have a high tolerance for pain so I am lucky. I found moving helps. Sorry for the long story but want others to know that they are not alone in this fight. Blessings

Thank you for sharing. I am currently going through testing and the miscarriages started in 2007. Praise God I was able to conceive after OB doctors scraped my uterus and surrounding areas etc. But now I can’t eat without severe pain & nausea. I joked it was the best diet I ever had, but I had to quit my job, and I can barely do the stay at home mom jobs 😣🥺 I do everything I can with extreme exhaustion from not eating, or pain when I do!
Doctors can really, really suck! I will pray for complete and total healing for the both of us! 🙏🏼😘♥️ Also, for the doctors who are treating us, I also found a doctor recently who said, Yep, it’s likely adhesions. No big deal, I can help! Line what the heck?! I want to cry with joy! He’s the 6th or 7th consult and third GI Specialist. Finally!

I am a general and onco surgeon, and I can say the reason why they don’t want to operate is because there is high chance that after the surgery it will be worse than before, and it will definitely come back again, because we’ll surgery is one of the main causes of adhesions. My patients died from this last week, he had obstructive ileus, and all his small bowels in the upper abdomen were in a ball of adhesive material, we tried conservative treatment it didn’t work, we were finally forced to open up and do adhesiolysis, unfortunately on adhesiolysis the wall of the intestine somewhere deep in the ball of adhesions tore, and he got fecal peritonitis, and we had to reoperate and suture it up, and then put a Vacum sealing, then again there was another hole, so we did the same, and he died slowly, although he fough till the end, he died after 4 weeks. It was sad for us all, he was a warrior of a patient.

    I've had this 14 years....
They discovered it by accident .
We were all baffled as I had no previous surgery that caused it.
Best guess is gastric flu..which I had twice ...
This is a brilliant video.......very clear information.
Unfortunately mines so bad they wont open me again even to correct it all.
So not all patients can receive corrective surgery.... sadly...
Depends on how severe your adhesions are .
My thoughts ho out to all sufferers . 💚💚💚
This is a terrible condition to have ...
    Life changing for some....

@@morganjames5180 after appendectomy, I midly developed pain right after I was off the hospital, but 4th night I couldn't sleep, thought it was peritonitis and was admitted in emergency. Even intravenous tramadol wasn't able to keep me relaxed, waited for 16 hours to get in operating room. Finally recovered fully. So do you endure this pain the whole day?, I cannot imagine, I don't have words to say because mine was 8/10 in pain. How do you manage to be every day in that condition and jobless. I assume you have seen already different digestive surgeons and all had the same opinions? Unfortunately I’ve been dealing with adhesion issues in my abdomen area since 2016 due to me getting shot and me needing surgery to have a bullet removed from abdominal area. I’ve had 3 major surgeries since then to remove adhesions and the whole process from start to finish is a complete nightmare. It’s like I live on pins and needles every day of my life now worrying about will it get so bad again to the point where I’ll need surgery again. I hope and pray one day that some type of medicine is invented where it will be able cure adhesions without requiring surgery. I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy.

Thank you, this videos and others tells me all I need to know, this is exactly what's been my issue, I have trouble peeing all the time, I cant pass gas and just constant pain and bloating right around my belly button and left side of it. A few weeks ago I was non stop throwing up for almost 5 days straight and nothing I would do stopped the naseua and vomiting and I hardly could eat for 3 of those days it was horrible and yet my parents acted like I was just annoying them and that wasnt my issue, but I have a huge scar straight down the middle of my lower abdomen from appendicitis that went septic after it ruptured after 3 days. But this issue has literally been affecting me for years now and nobody has done anything to help. I even went to a gastroenterologist and they didnt even bring up anything about adhesions to me and I wasnt aware of that being a thing at that time, but of course they said it was inflamed somewhat but nothing seemed to be an issue to them smh

@@Cautionary_Tale_Harris still dealing with the same issues....and I eat like crazy but wont gain any weight. I normally weighed from 130lbs to 145lbs now I'm down in the low 100s and no matter how much I eat I dont gain weight. And its soo frustrating having a doctor that could seriously care less...shes just in it for the money she receives from my state insurance. Shes more worried about "high cholesterol" and stop smoking cigarettes which are the least of my problems. And anytime I try to stress to her that something's wrong and not normal she just brushes it off like she could care less and doesnt want to deal with it. And in the same building as my doctor is in, I went to the gastrointerologist to get a upper G.I. done to see what's causing all this pain and discomfort. And when my primary doctor found out I went to them b4 her she told me "well make sure you dont do that again....next time go through me, you contact me!" When she doesnt even do anything about it. And even when I got the upper G.I. test, not one of them ever mentioned that it could be from the zipper surgery I had done when I went septic when my appendix ruptured and I waited 2 days b4 I went to the E.R.. but you would think they would get that could be a major possibility and not until i did some research on my own did i find out about scar adhesions and the issues it causes. I literally am depressed over it everyday and feel helpless to find any cure or diagnosis to what's really going on but it's really scaring me how i lost soo much weight and havent been able to gain any back. Family that hasn't seen me in awhile are worried to death after seeing me recently because of how skinny and unhealthy I look, yet none of the nurses or doctors seem to think this is not normal, they just act like I'm a normal healthy, average patient which is just frustrating. But thanks for all the kind words and worried about me. Means alot when I feel like noone really cares. But yea i wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy and i dont even take pictures anymore on my social media because of how bad i look being soo skinny people would just assume I'm some drugs or something when it isnt.

My appendix ruptured and i got a bowel obstruction right after. Left the hospital and i had another bowel obstruction 5 months later. It's been 12 years and I've had at least 30 episodes, 5 at the hospital with ng tube and the rest at home. I should really go see a doctor, thinking of getting a laparoscopy. It's just annoying that that can cause more adhesions. After all these years at least you have a sense of when something isn't right with the bowel and can foresee an episode, its a risk I have to take otherwise I'd continue to live as is.... Still it's been such an inconvenience to live with adhesions. Some episodes feel like you're about to literally die
