I've seen more and more of these vids popping up lately and I love the fact that Remedy is getting the recognition they deserve. Obviously not everything is for everyone, but still, these games truly are amazingly crafted. I agree with most if not all the things you're saying in this vid! Nice video dude but i think u missed an important part wich is in the archive section when u shift the reality by disabling the lights and then u find a light cord in the office in the center of the archive and when u pull the cord 3 times u enter the ocean view motel and u meet dylan (jesse faden's brother) and u talk to him
Oh it was intentional. I briefly mentioned floor 4 but I didn’t wanna dedicate another 10 minutes going over that as that time can be spent for another video I have planed going over the game as a whole in the future. Thank you for the support.
Playing this Day 1 felt more survival horror than the main campaign did tbh. There was so much resource scarcity (helped by the fact that I literally missed and stepped over the shotgun on my first playthrough) that I had to run from enemies and narrowly escape to the elevator numerous times. And honestly? It was awesome.
Oh yeah I have to respect this attempt on there part, the main game had to strike a very diverse balance given its open structure but this felt like a very powerful move towards that.
There are three things I really liked about this DLC: 1) no mind place, 2) Kiran Estevez is cool AF, and 3) the FBC-like interior architecture. Oh and the new Poe song is great as well. (Hashtag trip hop is not dead) I've read that they have added more resources (ammo and health) since launch and lowered the 'grapple mortality'. That's probably wise, as I've played on Standard and it felt wildly unbalanced. Probably wasn't playtested properly. Often the case today. Not necessarily the fault of the devs. But players in the future should have less trouble.
It was fun to play through, I enjoyed seeing more of the FBC and thought the story of the Marmonts was a super interesting little side-story from the main world. My main complaint, if any, is that it felt so similar to the main game in terms of gameplay- which of course is silly, as it's Alan Wake 2 DLC. I suppose I was expecting more of a shift from the general gameplay loop after playing Night Springs. I'm probably just nostalgic for more Control, honestly. Great DLC for a great game, great video
This was awesome. The whole game, the DLCs. But this one kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time. Leave it to Remedy to create a frightening monster from random paint splatters! Those things were insane! But the final boss fight was so satisfying! It was tough in normal mode, but it was extremely rewarding. Not very often you get Die Hard moments in a game these days. I was literally on my last bit of health when I beat it. I cannot recommend this game enough!
Did anyone have a disappointing final fight? I started it with minimal HP as I ran out of healing items. This made me loose my will to fight after taking a hit as I was expected to lose the run anyway. Also I died many times and had to attempt it 10+ times as I was not allowed to make more than a few mistakes. I could not find any healing items in the room, so I had to learn the enemies movement patterns and eventually I was just dancing around her. I might still die if I got caught by the environment and had to try again. The repetition took away all sense of horror. I knew I was getting better and the enemy is not that difficult once you know what they are going to do. So in the end I beat her without too much difficulty. I think in perfect horror experience, you fight the boss 1-3 times and feel like you are being crushed, but just barely win it. You do not want to be able to (in my case forced to) run circles around it.
Although I liked this DLC for what it offered, ultimately, I did not expect this be a self contained side story that only slightly brushes on the main story. For DLC called "The Lake House", Sam Lake being the main writer of Alan Wake (naming being a meta narrative choice), I expected this to be a very significant DLC to the overall plot and its progression (like American Nightmare). It felt like a bit of a let down, truth to be told
well, American Nightmare was a whole separate game. I can see the developers acknowledging they were limited with what they could do given it's a DLC and made this. The game has a lot of meta big and small so It didn't come as a surprise for me that I didn't do much beyond a unique side story that puts us in the shoes of a FBC agent. I think that pretty cool way to enhance the overall world-building of these games. Something I'll cover in time perhaps I get wanting more but what it has is very strong for me
It really sucks that SBI had Alan Wake 2's name attached to them, because unlike like.. pretty much every one of their other projects.. Remedy didn't seem to take any of their advice. They've made three really great female protagonists between AW2 and Control that have none of the flaws of modern 'strong women' writing, but because of that association there's this huge assumption they will be terrible. It really bums me out, because really, they should be held up as a shining example of how to write female protagonists. Not a single tearing down of those around them, not a single lecture.. they prove themselves through their actions, with strengths and most importantly, weaknesses. It should be the benchmark.

It's braindead to assume anything connected to SBI is inherently bad and is symptomatic of the larger problem of reactionaries priming people to not engage with any media they even suspect is remotely associated with anything they deem woke. So many people deprive themselves of genuinely amazing media because they outsource their opinions and critical thinking to people who foam at the mouth when gay people simply exist in their line of sight.

It excites and terrifies me for Control 2 and from what we got to see on Level 4 in the Lake House, that fear was justified. Great video and analysis of the DLC. It is really impressive how impactful it is from a narrative sense given how short it is. Really goes to show the talent of remedy.
