    I have both the older model (in black and violet) and the newer Black Forest Pro model (in carbon fiber). All have black EF nibs which are very smooth and a true extra fine with just a bit of bounce. All pens wrote well right after their initial flush after unpacking. The newer one is much more comfortable to use, primarily because the section is thicker and longer. I haven’t used the clip except as a roll stop, but you’re right about the new model having a much more flexible, clip- I just checked them while watching your video. You’re also right about the cap design keeping the nib from drying out.
    Like you, I highly recommend these Black Forest pens, especially the comfortable, improved newer “Pro” version. A great writing experience. I love my carbon fiber Black Forest Pro and its EF nib.

    They are nice, of course.
    Hopefully Jinhao build an X159 in carbon fiber.

    I note the CF is the heaviest of the group! 😄 Nice pens, though. I have a few HongDians, and I do like the writing experience.

    Nice review Chris. You always find stuff early. I checked the link and they're about $5 more already. I'm so tempted but boy I don't need more pens. I'm still looking for the penbbs lemon cookie.

      @chrisrap52  Рік тому +3

      Lemon cookie sold out quickly, unless PenBBS makes more, only resale market.

      @@chrisrap52 I'm hoping they'll release more because of its popularity. It took about 2 years but I finally found a penbbs 456 vacfill demonstrator with a black and gold cap. It gave me hope.

    You are correct. I like the carbon fiber version the best. The interesting point is that the car on fiber pen weighs more than the other two. It is supposed to be light than steel. Is it wider than the steel version?
    I am interested in the ink. Is it a quick drying ink? It is of interest as I am left handed.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  Рік тому +2

      My guess the brass core is thicker on the CF pen. Dries pretty fast. My experience, Noodler's Lexington Grey dries the fastest of any ink I have.

      Rohrer & Klingner Scabiosa (purple) and Salix (blue) are very fast drying water proof inks. They both shade as well

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  Рік тому +1

      @@justinwolf3311 I have borh inks, to me they are not fast drying. They are iron gall based. In water, color washes away, leaves grey.

      @@chrisrap52 do all these pens have brass cores? I have the brass one and I suspect it's just plating. I can say it isn't steel because it doesn't respond to magnets, but I really don't know what's underneath the apparent brass. If I had a second one I'd cut one of them in half to find out for sure

    Is the capping mechanism metal on metal?

  • @kauaiphotography
    @kauaiphotography Рік тому +1

    Aloha Chris! Thanks for sharing this new model Black Forest. I have the original model and while it writes great, I find the grip section way too narrow (thin) and since it's both metal and tapered, it's hard to get a good grip. Holding it further up helps, but I find it too far away from the nib. It looks as though the new model has the same metal section, but a bit girthier and maybe not as tapered? Is the original model also a #5 nib? It looks smaller? Mahalo, Thomas

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  Рік тому +1

      Yes, same No. 5 nib. Section better on this model.

      @kauaiphotography Рік тому +1

      @@chrisrap52 Thanks Chris for confirming that the nibs are the same #5 - sure looks smaller than a #5 on my pen, the "original" Black Forest. Looking forward to your review and also how the different nib sizes compare. Mahalo!
