  • What's up, people! I'm back with another Duran Duran reaction, and this one was a request! Indeed, shout-out to Ron, who has commented on several videos now, because this song was BRILLIANT and as you'll see, blew my mind in the moment. I can't believe I never heard this one as a kid, as it really hits that early '80s synth-pop sound I fell in love with. I hope you enjoy the song and video! Cheers.
    PS - apologies to Ron, who also requested I react to "New Religion." Well, I did that reaction and just posted it ... only for UA-cam to block it worldwide (and mistakenly think it was the 2006 remaster, even though my version is clearly the '82 American vinyl release). So yeah, I may try to react to it again, but that would mean I'd have to interrupt the song multiple times in order to bypass the block, so I'm not sure people would enjoy it as much. So again, sorry UA-cam blocked it, but for now at least, I can't upload my reaction to "New Religion." Apologies!

    Man, I’m so jealous. Trying to imagine hearing The Chauffeur for the first time again. I could listen to this song 10 thousand more times and it will always blow my mind. I LOVE dark DD. They have lots of music that fits that category and I definitely feel it is some of their best songs, even though they are known for energetic/dance type music.
    The Man Who Stole a Leopard is the All You Need is Now version of the Chauffeur. When you think of the absolute brilliance of this song, keep in the back of your mind that these guys were all VERY young producing music like this. Early 20s and I believe Nick Was 19. You know what I was doing when I was 19?? Absolute butz in comparison to this! 😅New Religion is gonna knock your socks off. These songs didn’t get the radio airplay of Rio or HLTW, but every Duranie knows..it’s the deep cuts you have to look out for.

      Right on, I love dark stylings in music so I'm keen to hear more Duran Duran like this!
      Also I actually did shoot a reaction to "New Religion" ... but UA-cam blocked it worldwide. And I really don't get that, as it's from the same album I've been reacting to with no problems. So yeah, I might have to re-do the reaction and interrupt the tune multiple times (which I really hate doing). Of course, that song had a few pops and surface noise on my vinyl copy of Rio, so maybe I'll try to get a better copy first and then see if I can re-do the reaction.
      Either way, thanks again for a wonderful comment!

    now i can comment :) well, it was me who suggested those songs. SLB can be impressionistic or symbolic and use so many styles. this is definitely the impressionistic style. and the lyrics was written an hour away from where i live!!! this song made me a fan, it blew my mind as a young man, at that point i stopped looking at them as "the band that all the girls scream at" to.....those are artists.

    • @izzyworld8068
      @izzyworld8068 2 роки тому +2

      I agree wholeheartedly with that explanation of the lyrical style and for me too , this was the song that made me stop in my tracks .
      I sent a copy to a friend at the time (1982) who was British and from Birmingham but had moved to the USA and hadn't heard this yet. So when he heard the Chauffeur he got back to me and said he liked that one in particular but couldn't recall the song name and his description was perfect.. he said it sounded like a chorus of angels 😇 which it does in a spiritual sense.

  • @izzyworld8068
    @izzyworld8068 2 роки тому +5

    I know u have done alot of DD stuff , but if I can suggest another album , which is very much a continuation of this 'side' to them, the side project band "Arcadia", when the band temporarily split into two bands. Arcadia was Simon Le Bon with Nick Rhodes and drummer Roger Taylor.
    They explored a darker, gothic side to their sound, and the nearest the band got to sound like one of their influences "Japan" (the British synth group not the country).
    In particular the lead track "Election Day" is stunning with guest vocals by Grace Jones and sax from Roxy Music's Andy McKay.
    That track also samples newsbroadcasts that are looped and reversed. I have the version with the extended and single mixes of Election Day and the other singles too.
    The album is called "So Red The Rose" , a nod to "La Belle Et La Bette" a Jean Coctaeu classic noir, art-house film which inspired Nick Rhodes and the video for Election Day.
    The album is often cited as "The Best Album Duran Duran never made"

    so now i have some time to comment on the lyrics: this is a breakup song. it talks about the breakup from the perspective of the one who's left behind. as it say: and i only watch you leave me further behind. so the chauffeur is a role he had in this relationship. taking the other side from one point in her life to another....it is a metaphor that SLB return to with great maturity in the song "somebody else not me". the ability to accept changes and to recognize them as part of a process.

    I will get back to you on this ASAP, lots to cover, but this is still my all time favourite DD track.
    For now though, that pan pipe sound isn't a synth line but Simon Le Bon playing a wind instrument called an Ocarina. He plays it live. The song was originally an acoustic track by Simon who wrote it when he was living on a Kibbutz in Israel in a gap year. He saw some girls playing on the floodplain on a tractor , driving it and being playful.
    The acoustic version was recorded later as a B-side for the single Rio with a subtitle (Blue Silver).
    Nick Rhodes and producer Colin Thurston laboured over this , it is BEST heard on headphones as it goes all around your head. The man speaking at the end is from a BBC nature documentary (About butterflies or plants I think).
    This was not a remix, along with Save A Prayer and Last Chance On The Stairway and I think New Religion, they are untouched for the US version

    • @mattsnider2667
      @mattsnider2667  2 роки тому +3
