    I love how brutally honest he is to Levy. It's amusing seeing Levy on the receiving end of it after so many "guess the ELO" roasts. Also interesting that what Levy needs to work on is mostly the same basic principles as me at 1200, just much farther in advance. Don't do stuff if you can't explain why, don't overcomplicate, don't be afraid to make small improvements instead of going for a big attack if it's not reasy yet, don't hang mate (but for me its don't hang m3 or whatever and for Levy it's don't hang m10), etc.

I enjoy the dynamic of him asking questions and trying to find what you can improve upon without being condescending in the least, and your constant response of humility and simply wanting to get better. Quick update: He can't take any pieces my horse was guarding the square that he could moved to and I check mated my opponent with a queen.

    This is something that I have a problem with too: Finding direction in a chess game. I am directionless, but I just started getting into chess again due to watching Anna Cramling. I haven't played since I was a kid. There was a lot of tactics and calculations I've never considered before when I was a teen. Now I'm 41 and doing it for a declining memory, which seems to help with the visualizations, but how do you overcome a directionless gameplay? I am just playing against 700 elo bots, but I have no direction at all. When I try to do an opening, it organically flows in an entirely different direction. Whenever I move my pieces, they aren't cohesive like the AI bots. So yeah, it's interesting that your problem is direction too.

    • @Eagle3302PL
      @Eagle3302PL 2 місяці тому

      My problem in chess is that I play a lot of 4X games, and those games usually prioritize building up a strong base structure early and mid game, and picking 2-3 win strategies into the late game, as you acquire resources and snowball over time. Chess is the opposite, as the game goes on, your opportunity space and resources dwindle, and within 2 moves an entire strategy can collapse. So like the trainer said, I have to pick a strategy, commit to it so long as it's not been halted, and only go for tactics when there's opportunity. I don't have Levy's obsession with the center and passed pawns, but I do tend to attempt multiple tactics at the same time instead of having a concrete plan or goal.

    The space advantage Levy had that coach underscores is written about in the book by Silman “How to reassess your chess.” That Levy is unfamiliar with it is surprising. It’s pretty clear that faster time controls against noobs for content has hurt Levy strategically and psychologically. Looking for shallow tricks and when there are none, floundering like a babe in the woods.

    Good coaches need to be brutally honest with their players and students. With chess its true a lot of it is; psychological, seeing ghosts, improving thought processes, avoiding traps, defense, staying calm etc,etc. In my opinion chess is 90% focus and 10% tactics. Great job Levy and coach Neiksans. Thanks for the insights.

    I Love you so much Levy and I've been watching you a lot since the beginning from India...but I don't think this is the type of content we're looking for in this channel.(Personal opinion)

    This might sound stupid but today I just fully realized that I can just not attack things for series of moves while I improve my position. I just beat Nelson without blundering any pieces and won my first 10 minute game where theither party blundered any pieces. I swear it feels like a burden has been lifted from my shoulders. I don't have to make things happen, I can just make my own stuff better and wait for them to explode.

    Maybe Levy needs to play the Alekhine defence in some blitz games to gain some perspective regarding evaluation of central positions. And it's fun to play!

    You should consider making a podcast. Like Bill Burr's podcast just talk about what's on your mind. Id totally listen to you on my jogs, walks cleaning etc.
