Mandy is one of the sweetest people in the world and I completely understand why he felt he needed to leave. I think if I were doing a show that ended up having something particularly difficult and triggering every week vs once in a while, I would need to step away for my own mental health. That's what he did and I totally respect that decision.
They all seem very nice people. But to me it seems weird that a seasoned actor like him made this mistake. I mean just like Joe implies.. I assume the subject of the show would be told to the cast before signing them. If you know its about a group of profilers specialised on serial killers you can predict that the shown won't be pink fairytale type of show. As a actor you also do your research I assume. He could have known in the very beginning that this is what it would be like. If that's not his cup of tea I don't think he should have done it.
@@sarojni21 we all make mistakes, and I admired Mandy to have the guts to stop when he realized that a rise of such shows in a generation that is addicted to media can actually have a negative impact and decided that he don't want to be part of it.
@@sarojni21 Tv people talk about the show but maybe they never said how explicit the show was. I would watch the show and get nightmares from watching those scenes. I don't blame Many for leaving
I don't think it was a problem he wanted to leave, but he should've discussed it with the producers for sure. He was the lead, he confirmed to go to the table read, then went to network people behind the producers's back saying he wanted out and the people working on the show only found out through network guys that their protagonist wasn't coming back. That's very rude, their anger was understandable. And he never called them afterwards. None of the people whos work and payment technically was dependent on him. When you are a lead to a big show like that, you need to have some consideration. Is ok to leave, but do it step by step, talking to everyone involved, making sure the project has a way to survive without you, give a heads up to the writters to start wrtting scripts without you, don't wait untill the table read day...etc
i am not a person who watches shows very much and specially not crime shows. i just randomly put on criminal minds one day and from the very first episode gideon was the character i wanted to see and know more about. he appeared tough on the outside but he was really a softie. mandy did such a brilliant job with gideon’s character the by the end of season 1 he became my favorite. i stopped watching after mandy left.
Well you made a mistake because the show actually improved when Mandy left and Joe came on. Surprisingly alot of fans didn't care for Gideon and consider seasons 3-7 the only ones worth watching.
@@kendallrivers1119naw Gideon was always better than Rossi. And no most fans think 1-8 are the best. People love the most of the seasons in the beginning
I’d agree somewhat with one of the responses and say definitely the next few seasons after he leaves is great. Rossi does a good job, but yes Mandy played that role perfect
Like Joe said Mandy clearly didn’t read the script well. It was clear from the first episode what the show was about. I’m sure there was another reason why he left and this was just a better sound bite.
i loved "Joan Of Arcadia" its a shame it only had two seasons, was not a big fan of the shows star Amber Tamblyn though but her father made some great films. "Criminal Minds" might be my favorite TV show of all time and what a great cast. Mandy is a GREAT actor and he had been in two of my favorite films growing up "The Princess Bride" and "Alien Nation". so i was excited that he was on the show when it started and disappointed when he left but even more disappointed about the things he said. luckily they replaced him with Joe who is also a GREAT actor and Rossi is a great character. i really dont know what Mandy is on about its just a TV show, but also he seems to miss the uplifting and human part of the show in many episodes when they have the ending that brings an emotional high when something good comes out of the bad things. its the kind of escapism and good triumphs over evil that many of us want to see at the end of the day.
Let's be honest, Gedion left such deep impression that he only needs two seasons to leave a mark in the show. Joe can't fill in the gap Patinkin left. He's just too perky, polished and pretentious for a character who spends most of his life seeing the worst of humanity in those dark cases. In season 3 episode 14, when he talked about the case haunting him for 20 years, Joe's character was supposed to be lost in the twisted, dark memory. But the way Joe told the story was not touching at all. I mean, how many ppl would use hand gestures - and not the frantic, post traumatic types - to talk about a traumatizing experience? He almost looked like he was just giving lectures in college class and tried to look genuinely sad about a sad story he told. At first his character is full or paradox. On the outside he looked too comfortable and well-dressed like a male peacock (which indicates the character isn’t effected by the sad dark death in each case - either numbness out of overexposure or simply doesn’t care) but his character always looks too emotional involved in the action. Later on, he lost the big ring, started wearing vest outside a neck unbuttoned shirt, and change his attitude a little bit, suggesting the tiredness, sadness and too much knowledge on dark side of human which we found logical in Gedion
I’m wondering if Mandy didn’t think the show would be on air for more than a season? There were whispers before the pilot was filmed that it wouldn’t do well, especially with the rise and popularity of Lost as it’s main competitor. So maybe he just wanted it for a season then realized it was gaining more traction than he anticipated. That along with the fact that he probably didn’t think the execution of the show would reach that degree of darkness. Crime shows come with crime but each procedural has its own brand and criminal minds brand definitely stretches the limit.
I love the show. I just wish they would give more credit to the street officer/deputy. Those are the guys taking the creeps off the street 99 times out of 100.
CriminalMinds is about the FBI and is loosely based off actual crimes the FBI have solved. If you wanna watch a show about street cops, then do that then..
I understand why he left but he handled it all wrong and should've been more professional. At first i couldn't imagine the show without Gideon but it improved tremendously when he left. Seasons 3-5 and 7 were the golden years of that show. It all worked out for the best.
Larry you cut down Mandy and his reason for leaving the show. That's not very professional. I stopped watching Criminal minds cuz it was too explicit. I don't blame Mandy for leaving
The show was too violent? Well, it’s a show about profiling serial killers, not picking daisies for God’s sake. What the hell was Patinkin expecting? Did he not read the script? These comments are insane.
well to be honest criminal minds was never good without mandy. I came for mandy and i left for mandy. sometimes people are attracted to the character of detective more than the plot , same thing with other shows like sherlock , monk and poriot, but still those shows are not as dark as criminal minds.
What no the show got better when he left, if it wasn’t good I doubt there would be 13 more seasons but your entitled to your own opinion and I respect that.
I think you can already expect the kind to show it would be if you hear the subject. If you know a show is about a group of profilers specialised on catching serial killers.... How can you expect it to be something else then it turned out to be.
