I can no longer imagine working without a suitable programmer. I use my SVOD programmer 2-3 times a week for EC programming, the investment came back in a few weeks.
What about cleaning the old solder and applying solder paste to resolder using hot-air? My preferred method cause no pins bending...

@@intrax2tv I couldn´t really be friends with the solder paste, maybe no good quality tried so far.
If there is no sensitive component in the near is I also use for EC desoldering and soldering hot air.
If there is something sensitive in the area, I use by desoldering Chipquik and solder by hand.
Everyone has their own favorite way of doing it, and it doesn't matter what anyone says if it works.
@@em0_tion Keyboard test is great, you can see immediately if a button reacts or not, stays pressed in etc.
I still use the first version of SVOD, it can't do POST code.
The new SVOD is always updated and gets new features like POST or battery tester, I will buy it soon.
(there are other programmers too, many use ENIT SIO or Vertyanov, I have no experience with them)

Hi Sir,, probably the design of that voltage rail for that model for 3volts and 5volts is a suspend voltage probably coming after pressing the power button . However if the 3volts and 5volts ldo should always be present to supply the SIO in its vcc or vccp or whatever the pin name is. incase The 3v LDO is not present, probably there is a short in the 3volts rail or its the other way around in the 5volts power rail, How I hope we can discuss more regarding this just for th purpose of getting more knowledge. By the way, I am a technician from the Philippines

YOU can tests on LE1 for 3.3v to super io on most lenovo laptops , I use rt809f to program on the motherboard always have spares of this super io, you can extract the firmware from the bios with a hex editor tool, Find "ITE EC " in hex file copy from FF to length of 20000 should be 128kb ,Always do bios update after the repair, Hope the battery charges

You can also buy empty one and program it by yourself if you have programmer.

@@GKirChhOff i mostly get them from *.bin files from internet. You can extract kbc program from bios IF it have one inside, but its tricky.

Early on you showed a chip that was bypassed for power. (FET?)
You didn't show coming back and removing it after replacing the super-io.
Also not sure what the chip with the short was shorted for?
I'm guessing the superio turns it on normally?

What do you do if you get a replacement super i/o chip, but it needs to be programmed? Do you have a video showing how you do that?
I think with the new superIO you can also remove the dodgy bridge on the mosfet... now it‘s driving it for sure....
i check the charger out of the laptop and it shows 19V but when i check it when it is plugged into the motherboard it jumps around between 10v and 19v

I have a Lenovo G480, when I press the power button, it tries to boot, 1 time with the battery, and 4 times with AC adapter, no BIOS screen, I've checked all other components and they are ok, including adapter.
So the problem is on the mainboard, but what component can it be?

How do we know if the chip is preprogrammed or just any chip
Some KBC chips can be empty because they program themselfs from bios. And if you dont have programmer you dont know if its programmed or not.

Looking at a lot of these videos i came over a big problem and now i ask for the kind people on chat or even Sorin if he reads this. I bought a desktop motherboard (something fancy that can do a overclock) and the guy a bought from scammed me. Is not working i checked the mosfets, all good, super io, i changed a 4leg current regulator an buttons started to lit up on the board, then i checked capacitors on board everything good except the socket! I tried to change one and saw the same problems some of them are shorted still after the replacement. Is this a dead give away that the problem is my chipset 🤔
Sounds like a rail short. Use a current limited power supply like he does and feed into the rail at around 1 amp. Feel for heat on the main board to find the short

Why you say this capacitor is the 3.3v without schematic????
The super IO chip runs from the 3.3v line. It's normal in laptops. he looked for the common rail that ran around the chip with many decoupling caps on it and found it was shorted to ground. Then he knows there is a short on the 3.3v rail. He fed his own power supply into the 3.3v rail and the shorted component on that rail got hot (in this case, the super IO chip)
