Thanks, Peter for your great series on UA-cam. I'm of Armenian, Ukrainian and Corsican descent born in Azerbaijan. My mom was from Odesa Ukraine and my dad from Krasnodar Russia. I grew up travelling and living in many different European countries and finally settled in Southern California in 1981. Part of my family came to America in the 1920s and they mostly settled in New York and Chicago. You filmed my house in the beginning. My parents bought that house for much cheaper than it’s worth now but you’re right the property tax is crazy. Ours was the one you couldn’t really see but you showed my gate. Also you showed my best friends dad at 14:42!! That’s brad and he’s awesome and the nicest man ever

Peter! Then I saw that there was an episode 4 and I'm so stoked to see you're starting the video there!

Grew up in India and have been living in San Francisco for the past 8 years. Followed Peter on his India and Pakistan series. His visuals are pure bliss. Seeing this vlog reminded me of the feeling I get every time when I return to California from my India trips. Its that bitter sweet feeling which is hard to express.
Its crazy that you lived so close to me and now I watch all your videos. I grew up right on Lake St & 8th. I went to that library my whole childhood. Richmond district will always be my favorite part of the city and I hope it stays untouched!!!
I have been watching your series for a while now. The scams, world adventures, etc. I am loving this tour of NorCal, I am Australian, but lived in SF for 16 years. I now live back in Australia, it’s amazing that I know exactly where you used to lived on 9th, we may have at one point been neighbors. Literally next door. But I did not live there long, moved over to the other side of the park. What a small big beautiful world. I hope you purchased some seas candies for your lady, idk I heard that they went bankrupt, I moved back to Australia 8 years ago. In sea cliff you walked past Sharon Stone’s home and Robin Williams old home. I love NorCal, it will, to me, always be my home, yes Australia is beautiful, Asia, Europe, but SF/Northern California offers so much diversity in pretty much anything you can think of in a small location. thank-you so much for the memories- btw - I didn’t like your other video on why you now dislike SF, that said all of my friends agree with you, every single friend still in SF agrees with you, it is not the same, maybe I should not return and keep my memories. for me it was a wonderful place and time. Thank-you for bringing me back some wonderful places and times
At 4:16 that $5.2M house that pays only $3,403/year. That's because of CA Prop 13 that was passed in 1978. In CA, your property taxes are based on whenever you bought the house and the assessed value is only allowed to go up 2% per year (even though housing prices in CA have increase like 20 fold in the last few decades). Even people who bought in 2013 pay WAY less property taxes than current buyers. Hence, that person who owns that $5.2M house, is only paying taxes based on an assessed value of $285k. New buyers subsidize the taxes of long time home owners. This tax policy completely distorts the CA real-estate market and creates huge incentive to never move, which drives down inventory and makes prices continue to soar. It basically has the same effect as rent control, except for very wealthy people.
Just saw Episode 1 to 4 of your NorCal - videos, thanks Peter for the great views and stories about the past, I love that. Have to spend a lot of time to look all of them. Thumbs up! Greetings from Germany!
I remember the Tower Records store in the Marina District. It was the place to check out new music and buy your records. Thankfully there are still a number of used record stores in SF and Berkeley.
This is my city (pretty much know every square foot of it). _The place I fell in love with decades ago and moved to._ But the 'contrasts' that you showed ignores the many bad areas _(which have become gigantic homeless encampments)._ And local government veers between incompetent and crazy _(on the rare occasions when it's not both)._ To the point where I am actually thinking of leaving the *only* city I have ever loved :((((
Yeah, I failed to bring out much of the contrasts here. I had an overambitious goal of showing that in one video. Next Tuesday I'll post the second part where we go through the Tenderloin. Yeah, the way its run has gotten quite messed. It's almost like taxpayers are the new criminals. Move to the Inner Richmond, don't leave!
While we don't have the amount of homelessness in New Orleans that SF does, gentrification has made me me feel the same.. about my home town.. I feel ya
@@PeterSantenello I grew up in Haight Ashbury and lived in the Mission for many years. I've been priced out and now live in the East Bay. You can see many videos showing the negative parts of San Francisco, glad he showed the other parts. We get so drawn to the negative these days time for some nice stuff.
Nice Luxury houses.....spotting almost every brand of cars Honda, Nissan, Toyota, etc......The neighborhoods of San Francisco are cool! Good Job for another excellent Vlog!
I loved San Fran! It's a very beautiful city. Such history. Such architecture. Such scenery. Such lovely flora of trees and flowers etc and hidden little places to explore! Although, at times, It is walking from one safe and beautiful street or place, to some places which remind me to always remain alert.
Love the vlog man! Im from Long Beach, but definitely love it up north! lol she said the music sounds like a GTA game. My friends always say the same thing when they visit
The East Bay/San Pablo Yacht Harbor is a notable off the beaten path kinda place! I was staying in Richmond, CA. 2016-17, boating the Bay with my friend and places he knew from his childhood. Wildcat Creek and El Cerritos view of fog. Kidding a view of a panorama of the amazing Bay Area.
There are still many houses in CA that are under Prop 13. That passed in '78. So if the people have owned it since then or if it has stayed in the family, they have INSANELY low property tax compared to the extremely HIGH value of their home. That's why pre-'78 CA had some of the best schools in the nation. After that they noise dived because of the extreme tax loss.
I don't know how this ended up in my feed but i'm glad it did. I live in SF. Y'know the sad thing about those huge mansions is that you have to work and hustle soo hard that you rarely ever have time to actually spend time to enjoy living in your mansion...
This is the type of CITY where close peaceful energy springs there is no HUMAN who would not choose it as a rarely perfect place to live. Here the ambience creates a wonderful real dream of the truth of emotional urban living. For the first time I see America from another new window. Thank you for the wonderful video.Greetings from Macedonia ~
Peter, really enjoying your videos and now more because you are including your lovely Ukrainian wife. My fiancee is Ukrainian and we are hoping to travel alot. Hopefully you two will do more traveling around the US. Please do Utah, this state is beautiful and has much to offer. I wish you two all the best!
This is one of the best reviews of SF I've seen. You might be able to see a tiny bit more if you were on a bike, but its harder to do the video. There's enough to show in SF that you could have multiple parts.
Love your videos, Peter. You bring so much positive energy and humanity to wherever you visit. Unlike other tourists who seem to be impartial to locals. It shines through especially in your videos in Pakistan, India, Iran and such. Cheers to you with love and peace.
I lived on 9th and Clement from 1968 to 1973 at 811. My rent was $90 a month and the last year it went up to 160. Right across the street from Hamburger Haven. I still go back there.
I went to that school k-8th grade across from that library on clement !! Sad to say they closed star if the sea after being open for over 100 years :( So many memories there thank your! My grandmas apartment building is 3 blocks away.. thank u for filming everywhere you went is very familiar to me! Born n raised in the richmond district here!!!
The wind you feel in San Francisco (the delta breeze) reliably blows from there east across the central valley about 100 miles to our home in the Sierra foothills a little west of Yosemite. Your lead-in shows what I think is San Luis reservoir & Bodie, I assume you get there later in this or the next video.
A fun tour of the neighborhood ... I live on California, near 21st. I'd forgotten what shopping on Clement Street, and Sunday-in-the-Park, looked like before we were all masked up and "social distancing." Thanks!
San Francisco is my favorite city.. I love visiting there a few times a year.. I know the homeless situation and prices are too much but there are so many other wonderful things and places to see in S.F. Looking forward to going back in November
You should show her and the other audience also the the lone cypress on the 17 mile drive at pebble beach. I saw it in the 1990s when I was as a german exchange student in Lodi (between Sacramento and Stockton) and I never forgot it. Best time of my life!
It depends what part of the city. Unfortunately it's full of homeless, human feces and your car could be broken into if you leave any valuables inside.
I grew up going to California every summer but I've never gotten to see this northern part of the state.. so cool!! And extremely different from Southern California
I go to SF State and they dude talking to you guys on the bench in Golden Gate Park mentioned my HipHop Class professor Davey D! I’m currently taking his class and I can say that providing a sound system along with lobbying to have the roads in the park closed on Sunday’s is definitely something he would do. Crazy to hear that mentioned in the video lol
as a local you really covered it as I personally experience it...it is a great city, it has its hard ships but I would say most people make it and love it for what it is...:)
Good exploring! Thanks! San Francisco is noisy and vain city. It's a nice place to walk in parks, stroll on interesting streets, take a breath on the beach, but not to live there.
Tell her about the Carnegie libraries… particularly since you’ve seen his Upper Eastside mansion! With his wealth he built over 2,500 libraries across the US between the 1880’s and l930’s! Philanthropy is another American value which is impressive in the US.
Your content is absolutely fantastic! I've gotta say your wife seems very reserved, she also has a posture i have noticed with alot of Europeans. They walk with their shoulders back and like I said seem very reserved. Maybe I am wrong, just my interpretation.
What a chill city! It's so drastically different from Texas or other parts of the South. There is so much inclusivity here. One of my fav 5 cities including LA, Vancouver, Montreal, and Quebec City. My wife is getting the travel itch again. Thinking of taking a short trip up to Mount Rushmore, before the second wave hits.
Right, ''healthy food is expensive''. So it is sad to see that the poor parts of the country/cities don't have those. You will defo see more fastfood-only stuff there and way less good food. I've travelled thru the States for 25 years. I love your videos. Super good. Now i want to travel back to the US. Despite a lot it is, to me, the most awesome country to travel. Don't want to live there, but a big part of my heart is there. A piece of my heart is even buried there ... Love your sweet wife forever, Peter. Life is short. Love is forever.
You DO have lot of old architecture in the U.S. All those Roman-style government buildings and churches whose architecture matches nothing else in the city are Tartarian buildings. They're part of a world-wide empire that existed before the current crime-family moved into these buildings.
Property taxes in California get capped at the moment of purchase due to a law from the 1970's. A new home will pay a much higher tax than one last sold in 1978, which is paying tax based on the 1978 sale price.
Did you use to live in Richmond, CA? My cousin owned the Hidden City Cafe for years. All my mom's family lived in the Bay Area since the 40s and my daughter lived there for 10 years. You are showing me things I never heard of. I wish I knew of these things before lol
Property tax in Cali is based on the *the value of the last time it changed hands* bc decades ago as prices went up old folks were getting taxed out of their own homes. (there was something of a tax revolt and "proposition 13" was passed to that end in early 1980's I believe) THEREFORE two identical value homes can have dramatically different tax rates.
Awe...I love Baker Beach! I was surprised the very first time on the beach if you get closer to the bridge it becomes a nude beach😅 Thanks for sharing.😁
Buying/Selling Real-Estate in Ukraine: Taxes & Costs Annual taxes when owning real-estate Owners of real-estate (residents and non-residents) are required to pay annual property tax in the amount, set by local authorities but not more than 1.5% of minimum wage effective on the 1st of January of the reporting year per square meter (in 2018 it is 55.80 UAH per square meter). However, the first 60 square meters of apartment and 120 square meters of a residential house are not taxed. Owners of residential real-estate will pay additional 25,000 UAH per year if total area of owned residential real-estate exceeds 300 square meters for apartments and 500 square meters for residential buildings.

Thank you so much for the walking tour. I feel like I have really seen San Francisco close up.
You should show her and the other audience also the the lone cypress on the 17 mile drive at pebble beach. I saw it in the 1990s when I was as a german exchange student in Lodi (between Sacramento and Stockton) and I never forgot it. Best time of my life!
Yet again so happy I get to see more of the world now on my own adventure... Out away from America 🇺🇸😁😊
San Francisco so beautiful
Sea cliff, it is the area who live Kirk Hammett from MetallicA?
Peter, please don't miss to visit San Diego and santa Barbara, these two cities are my favorite places in the world .
as a local you really covered it as I personally experience it...it is a great city, it has its hard ships but I would say most people make it and love it for what it is...:)
Good exploring! Thanks! San Francisco is noisy and vain city. It's a nice place to walk in parks, stroll on interesting streets, take a breath on the beach, but not to live there.
My dad was raised in the Mission district. It is so different now! The cithhas changed so much, and not for the good!
Nice to see daily life in certain parts of the U.S. (as a non U.S. citizen) from your perspective.
Started to look forward to watching next one you make ,great streams love them to see places don't normally see visit but all worth visiting💯
Tell her about the Carnegie libraries… particularly since you’ve seen his Upper Eastside mansion! With his wealth he built over 2,500 libraries across the US between the 1880’s and l930’s! Philanthropy is another American value which is impressive in the US.
Great video Peter keep up the great work
been to san fran but you showed me different places. thanks maybe i will return one day
Love the foghorn !
Clement! The Irish Pub scene used to be great!
Your content is absolutely fantastic! I've gotta say your wife seems very reserved, she also has a posture i have noticed with alot of Europeans. They walk with their shoulders back and like I said seem very reserved. Maybe I am wrong, just my interpretation.
I love your videos!
Yeah, a much different feel for sure. I love Montreal, such a cool city :)
Sounds like you are going to all of the wrong places
Great look at "small town" SF!
Amazing!
Wow that was interesting episode, thank you ❤ you guys are amazing. Hello from Ukraine 🤗
Great videos ! And I can understand her, San Fierro from GTA San Andreas reminds about that area😅
Thanks for video
Awe...I love Baker Beach! I was surprised the very first time on the beach if you get closer to the bridge it becomes a nude beach😅 Thanks for sharing.😁
another great vid
Buying/Selling Real-Estate in Ukraine: Taxes & Costs
Annual taxes when owning real-estate
Owners of real-estate (residents and non-residents) are required to pay annual property tax in the amount, set by local authorities but not more than 1.5% of minimum wage effective on the 1st of January of the reporting year per square meter (in 2018 it is 55.80 UAH per square meter). However, the first 60 square meters of apartment and 120 square meters of a residential house are not taxed.
Owners of residential real-estate will pay additional 25,000 UAH per year if total area of owned residential real-estate exceeds 300 square meters for apartments and 500 square meters for residential buildings.
I like the vibe of this city! would love to see San Francisco's China town.
Robin Williams had a house near China beach. You probably walked by Jack Dorseys house in your video. His home is right next to China Beach.
Loving it
Interesting video 👍🏻
