The sad thing is, Arthas (Lich King) didn't commit all of those crimes on his own volition. He too, was a victim of the sword. Ten years ago we killed him in Icecrown Citadel, and Frostmourne was shattered, releasing those trapped souls - including his own. Shortly before he died, he saw a spirit of his father and his final words were "father, is it over?" ... "I see only darkness before me", and we finally know why.
He was sent straight to the maw without judgement, doomed to eternal punishment.

For context, he made a deal with the blade to save his people. But the spirit of the blade twisted that contract, and made the undead his people. Which were the ones killing his people.
And as for how it slowly corrupted him completely, the inscription describes it perfectly:
"Whom so ever takes up this blade, shall wield the power eternal. Just as the blade rends flesh, so must power scar the the spirit."

He was no victim of the Sword. He was a spoiled brat at his core. IT WAS HIM THAT DID THOSE CRIMES!!! He had a choice not to take the sword. He sealed his OWN fate!

@@LarryMericein what way was Arthas a spoiled brat? Do you even know the lore or you sprouting bs?

@@DickGarrison He was a brat because he thought he could control a sword of unspeakable evil power for his own purposes. His hubris was his downfall.

@@OrbObserver he never thought that one bit. It was power is the reason why he pick it up. He needed power but he didn’t know the frostmourne was a trick to control him. Idk where you get he thought he could control it from plus if you actually know the story. What we saw was actually Arthas through and through.

Arthas (the one with the white long hair) was a good person who inherited Uther's (the mc in this cinematic) believes/morals and a strong Paladin who served the Light until he got corrupted down the line.
The path he took to try and stop Mal'Ganis (a Dreadlord/Demon) who he thought was responsible for the Scourge (the undead) and the death of his people, is what led him to pick up the cursed blade Frostmourne (the one you see sucking half of Uther's soul) which slowly consumed him.
Frostmourne not only absorves other people's souls, but also consumes the wearer's own soul bit by bit until nothing's left.
This is the reason why his hair started turning white. He was originally blonde before picking up the sword.
The action itself was noble since all he tried to do, he did to try and save his kingdom.
He even states back in Warcraft III that he would do anything, even condemning his soul, if that meant the salvation of Lordaeron (his homeland).
Arthas: "Now, i call out to the spirits of this place, I will give anything or pay any price, if only you will help me save my people."
Even after he fell down the path of righteousness and became the Lich King (the King of the Undead), the remnants of his soul/being still held back the Scourge (the undead) from destroying Azeroth (the world) by confining them all into one place (Northrend).
To be honest, I think this was serious considering he was never judged and might have not even been assigned to the Maw (Hell) but another place for his redemption which I feel like he deserves since he was not himself when he did those atrocities.
Also, remember in the beginning when Uther says: "Light, save my soul."?
When he is killed by Arthas, half of his soul (yellow) is saved by the Light and sent to Bastion while the other half (blue) is trapped inside Frostmourne (the sword). This explains why Uther can't let go and why he acted the way he did.
In the end of the Wrath of the Lich King, when Frostmourne is broken and all the souls are set free, Uther's other half forgave Arthas.
Devos (the angel) also had a part in how this all unfold. The fact his soul is "broken" and the her influence, made Uther throw him into the Maw (Hell). It was something no one was expecting coming from him since he is one of the most righteous characters in all of Warcraft. That's the reason he went to Bastion in the first place.

In case you didn't notice, Uther's soul was split in two when Arthas struck him down. The pull of the sword Frostmourne and the pull of the Light were equally matched, and his spirit couldn't take the strain. The part of his soul that went to the Shadowlands contained his anger, his pain, his desire for vengeance. The part of his soul that was trapped inside Frostmourne until Arthas' defeat and it's shattering contained his honor, his reason, his memory of the boy and the hero Arthas had been. I expect a major plotline in Shadowlands will be reuniting the two halves of Uther's soul and healing the wound left behind on him so that he might truly ascend. I expect that if Uther had been whole from the beginning and had completed his ascension as he was meant to, he would not have been so quick to throw Arthas into the Maw.

Glad to see you finally got around to watching it! Yeah there's a little bit of Ahsoka/Jedi council vibes in there with having an order believe they can do no wrong and then somebody questioning it when they see the flaws in it.

I'm still super new to WoW and know basically none of the lore, but I'll be damned if blizzard can't make incredible cinematics and stories. This has me hyped even though I hardly know what it means!

If ya'll ever have any questions on particular lore, or anything, I recommend Nobbel87's channel. He's a Wow lore mentor, and I don't think there's much he doesn't know!

Whenever you question the status quo, the ones in charge tend to shut you down. In this case, she found a way around her orders!
